My guidelines in the Campaign Info "New Player Primer" includes pretty much everything you need to know Ten.
However,
It does not include a link to the gestalt rules. I think that should be included. There's even a mention of them which can be turned into a hyperlink.
I do not posses the ability to say Yea or Nay to anything, but I imagine your request for using a 3PP class/archetype should be fine. Most everything is allowed, provided its not legit broken or super insaneo powerful.

Tenro |

I am familiar with the gestalt rules, although i avoided any prestige classes since they tend to do crazy things with gestalt rules.
and with the PF 3PP Warlock, i think actually the original warlock might be more powerful. I might actually try to go with that. since that archetype doesnt even get unlimited eldritch blast.
how loose do we play here? like for instance, making new spells, etc?

As stated in the Campaign Info tab, dragons and thus their half children are, uh, a special case and need approval beyond the norm from Lyn.
I am pretty sure all material, 3.x and 3PP included, is allowed, provided as I said a few posts above that it isn't legit broken(No Pun-Pun), or super, insaneo powerful.
Lyn of course has final say, but I will be playing a Greater Doppleganger Factotoum 16/Taskshaper 6/Chameleon 10, using the variant known as the Red Mage.

from my messages from Lyn there may be some differences depending on student or teacher roles.
as a student I removed alot my abilities but will work to gain them back as the game progresses kind of a learning situation as my character becomes more able to control his powers and abilities.
things are most likely different if you are looking to be a teacher.
just my observations of the process up to this point.
I think it makes for a fun way to develop a character over time.

Tenro |

i actually thought of doing that as well but it didnt really fit the theme i was going for.
and i am going for student since it only makes sense to play a student before you play a teacher (to me at least)
i think i will go with the warlock from 3.5 most likely. the witch archetype does more damage, but i like the idea that the warlock can eldritch blast all day, whereas the witch archetype can only do 3+int

There are some really good 3.5 warlock conversions on the boards. Look up the one from Master Arminas. It's very nice.
Could someone provide a link to that if they find it? I'm quite interested. I enjoyed playing the warlock very much, but found it more than a bit weak. And I can turn NPC classes into battle monsters. My GM was shocked since it looks so powerful on paper, but in play it was underwhelming. We had to let her get an invocation every level just to let her keep up with the group, an adjustment I am fine with for anyone wanting to play a warlock.
Note: the warlock seems quite powerful until about fourth level, about equal at sixth level, and then by tenth the gap starts to widen the other way and just gets worse and worse. By level 16 it would have been unplayable without adjustments. Even with adjustments we had NPCs who were more powerful than her, but she did make a great support caster. Only character I've ever played from 1-20. Elijah Grace was an odd character to say the least. :)

I think I may 'retire' a couple of mine, or downgrade them to staff. I think I have too many to keep stories straight, or to have stories :P
I do however want to make a gestalted aegis/soulknife. I think that would be awesome. Think 'Armor' from X-men.
No problem. I was wondering if you were going to have any graduate, figured it was pretty likely for Krays and a definite maybe for Ryuzo. Just let me know what you decide on. :)

Tenro |

i agree with the above, and here is the link
i think i would like to use this version. it has all the utility elements (read: the fly spell) that the 3.5 version has that i want, and the all-day-blastiness of the 3.5 version, but the cool "actual spellcasting" element that the witch archetype PF version has.

I like it. That does solve a lot of the issues the class has while still leaving it what it is, which is a versatile support character. You are welcome to use this version.

I would be open to making new spells. You would have to run them by me first. Personally, I've rarely found the need given how many many spells are already out there, but I'm not opposed to it if someone is feeling creative. :)

Krays becasue of the family, possible teaching, and power level, yeah I'd say he's graduating. May not be entirely appropirate after only one term, but he's come pretty far. I'd say he's doing good controlling his power and not being a dick about it. He also has being a father to look forward to. Major milestone for him as a character, and thanks for that. It's nice to actually have a character's wishes/ motivations fulfilled, even if its in a rules light game.
Ryuzo, possibly. Nala is his focus atm. If she stays in as a student, then he will remain as one as well. The only other thing I see is possibly gettign pulled away for champion business, which is a possibility both of them face, just as with Krays and Ephebe.
Cassius was added as an after thought, an exercise in recreating a charcter from a movie and taking some creative license. Dunno that he needs to be played much, other than jsut remembering he's there in the back ground as a student. Comic relief, or whoopass if fiends are involved. More to follow.

I figured Krays would be graduating. It's not about how long a student has been at Avalon, but more about where they are in terms of being able to control their powers and emotional stability. And yes, it is awesome when you actually get to see a character reach their goals. :)
I love the way the story has played out between Ephebe and Krays. She had originally been planned as more of a tragic character and this was a nice twist from my side as well.
Nala is definitely graduating. Ephebe is going to recruit her to work as a counselor/nurse in the elementary school. For Nala now that she's broken free of her mother's control and is dealing with the trauma of her past she's ready to move forward. And with her abilities and background she is uniquely suited to helping traumatized superpowered kids. Plus for her it's kind of an act of redemption.
And Cassius makes great comic relief. :)

If Krisilanni is able to be fully written up and approved by Monday or Tuesday, do you think he'll be able to jump in, too, or is there something specific for very new people that you're waiting for?
We should definitely be able to get Krisilanni ready to play by then. Even if everything isn't strictly finished, there's enough of an idea already to get by for a bit. And that's when I'm planning to start the new term, so it's really the best time to bring in new folks.

Ryuzo will then probably find some other role to play. He may continue to take classes jsut ot be near Avalon for Nala's sake, and I may just have him pop in and out of missions like Tamrin does. He does also have the ability to be multiple places at once, so...he can do both :)
Ghalen is the kicker. He's a huge story angle waiting to happen, or not happen. He probably should continue as a student, imho.
The new one I'll work up and submit for approval. I'll build more kinks in this one to work out...

hmm, is thrall herd allowed or the 'missing' template,
also my friend wants to join but he's building a non magic character a teachers aid, child of an archmage who, while intelligent `can't seem to cast, he's making them a mage-bane character to show the kids what they're up against in that regard (that being why he's here)

Thrall herd is allowed as we already have one. Using those abilities on other students is prohibited...and they'll be cracking down on that more after the incident where Nala took over half the student body. She's reformed since. :)
I think I've read the missing template before....can't really remember what it entails.

cool, nevermind on missing, Diamond works better for the character even if it is weaker.

I would like to join as a human with no magical capability despite two highly magical parents. gestalt fighter/15, duelist/9, rouge/5, monk(martial artist)/1.
He is at the school due to a favor his parents called in with the headmaster. He hates being here and not being useful, so he does whatever he can to help. he knows more then most magi about spell craft, due to intense magical schooling from his parents. He helps magus in training, and any magi or sorcerer who wants to be competent in hand to hand fighting. He even can help with magic theory rather often. despite all his work, his current best is casting mage hand 3/day, and magic missile 2/day. honestly, he gave up on himself being able to cast magic and helps others. Due to his knowledge in magic and ability to avoid most anything, he is very effective on magi, and in general can spar with the willing.
