Meanwhile, back on Carl's ship...

Vickory takes the gems from Carl, and as he continues, she looks thoughtful for about half a second,
"Well, wouldn't a spell to calm your emotions be better? That way you don't lose control, but you won't be obstructed if you actually need to use your powers, such as when attacked.

Of course, I can still make a gravity controlling item, but I would need to know a bit more about what exactly needs to be done. Spell matrices require more specifics then regular spellcasting. It all has to broken down into a logical design pattern. Oh and I will need amber, or something similar, for the matrix itself."

Vai does actually giggle a bit at the mention of being frozen like a popsicle for months on end. Obviously whatever mental image she had of that was funny to her. Starting to relax a bit, reclining on the chair.

"I pick nurture." Vai responds, though her voice dropped to a more quiet tone at that. "Can we not talk about that though? It's... a bit personal right now." she says, looking away slightly. Bucket full of issues for Vai apparently.

"So, I take it you probably have a similar settings, but up in a mountainous region, if that's your favourite?" she asks, changing the subject away from the sensitive topic.

Smirking and chuckling back at Vai, Tryko'Sam says, "Yeah, laugh it up, chicky-- the worst part is the sheer boredom. I mean, if you have a nasty view of the ground, or a wall, that's all you will have for however long yer frozen, not fun. Maybe it's a good thing I can't remember everything that's happened, but, I /know/ that there's something in my past that explains why I'm how I am. Just can't remember it now. I'm definitely a horrible example of cleaning out my karma, or proof positive of that process." He grins though, clearly it's not that 'serious' given the level of his manner right now.

Considering her question about mountains or favorite setting, he seems to skip the prior topic per her request, replying, "Uh... I ain't made the pine and snow top retreat yet, but, that's for skiing and snow boarding mostly. I suppose I could-- but, I dunno, mountains are nice, yet a part of me figures it's mostly for looking to the stars, or better view of the area, you know? I know I like seeing as much as I can when able. Open space is good. Enclosed, not so good. Deep ocean, not good /at/ all. I'll add that to the list of things to make. I gotta be sure I'm not just making what /I/ like, you know, versus what's useful for the school's population and what not."

He glances off for a moment to think on something, or collect his thoughts mostly, then looking back asks, "How long have you been on this planet? If that other place was home, how'd you end up here? I figure we're talking vast distances away, right? You get rescued or something? What's the rest of the universe like, if you've been around? I suppose I should dive into that infinite library of ours, put it to the test one day too, huh?"

She can tell he's already thinking about that, given the glint in his eyes. It definitely seems appealing.

"As far as money goes, we do pay our staff well. We have to. No one would want to teach here if we didn't. Hazard pay, so to speak. These kids are often treated like they're monsters in the places they came from. Lot of psychological trauma. Abandonment issues. And I think I just described at least half the staff as well. With great power comes great emotional instability. That sort of thing."

"To start out, do you have any questions for me? I've got a whole list for you, so it might be quicker to have you ask first."

Clearly light hearted about the situation she's in, Maya playfully scoffs and waves off the 'issue' of lacking a choice in the matter. "Quite alright, I assure you, these things will resolve themselves with effort-- they usually do."

She finds a counter to lean against, devoid of knocking anything over or such, folding her arms on her chest again as before, in thought.

After a moment, she replies with, "Well, I'll give the brief history first, then ask a few questions to verify. If that's acceptable." It would be clear she presumes such is the case as she continues into the history part right after.

Maya's History:
"I was abandoned at birth, and raised primarily through a foster care system which revolved around one of our planet's predominant religious following. Eventually, as I grew into my formative young adult years, I demonstrated my abilities, which were, for me, quite natural at this point as it turned out I was one of few second generation Aberrant persons, as we were called by the majority of the population, born of two parents that were of the initial wave of Abberant erupted persons. An event, cosmic, apparently triggered this sequence, and through the years, our ... we hypothesized and had some supporting research, connectivity with the fabric of reality, in many aspects, became innate. To date, no one individual had the exact truth behind what happened, but we did make great strides into the study of this phenomena. Physics as we knew it, had changed-- we were capable of changing the very rules we'd long felt were immutable."

She takes a pause there, as if considering something, drawing a breath, and continuing. "Obviously, since our people had either deep psychological issues, or people's personalities radically changed due to the event, we had two sides to the possible results of ... humanity with super powers. Villains, per our literature and creative past, seemed to become reality, and people seeking to stop such, our heroes, rose up to hold them back. Initially, it was ugly-- but slowly a sort of social order came into being. That's quite a different tale-- sorry, I digress. Though, in one of those altercations, I assisted on the side of the heroes of the day, and in doing so, met the team, my new family, who spent many years, a few decades, dedicating themselves to protecting the planet and researching our Aberrant persons. I became a super hero, defending the innocent and weak, supporting a code of honor amongst us, while protecting our own Aberrant people in an effort to comingle with the non-Aberrant people of the planet, mostly terrified of our abilities and wanting very little to do with us due to the fear often inspired by our rogue, or accidental power use. In the course of developing our team further, we incorporated for legal reasons, went public, mostly, and sought to co-exist further with the general population, eventually being recognized by our deeds, and occasionally saving the world a few times over while thwarting major crimes and master criminals." She clearly smiles at the memories. "Quite a thrilling existence, truth be told. I'd happily repeat it again, if given the choice, though ... applying hindsight where and when possible. So that's a very short version, leaving out much detail."

Then, looking between Aananda and Vare she asks, "As far as questions go, I'm going to presume that on one level, there is a planet here with planetary issues-- but, what is the situation off world, or is there a need to focus on planetary concerns? Is there an organized society of worlds without? Or is there a reason not to worry about such? The reason I ask is ... what scope of attention does this school serve? I've heard of alternate planes, from Wizard Vare here, and alternate planets-- is this school more than just a local establishment? Our own efforts gained global recognition, and we were just making first contact with alien races, before our catastrophe occurred, which we had no way to stop once at the stage it had reached. I ask only so I can consider the macro or micro view of being here."

Grinning after that, she adds, "Then I can speculate and enjoy the thought, of destiny or fate having done this-- and whether or not it's time to finally get religious." She gives Vare a wink after saying that, perhaps eluding to prior conversations.

"Interesting. I've never heard of a group of people referring to those with powers as super. Well, it's a linguistic oddity anyway."

Lots of History:
"So...now you want to know the politics of this strange world you find yourself in? Well,...it's complicated. Out there in space there are lots of other worlds. And for a long time those worlds had little contact with each other. And then they did. Well, you already have experience with how awkward things can get when powerful and less powerful people interact. That's when the Dragon Wars happened. The metallic dragons believed that they should rule for the good of the younger races because they knew what was best for them. The chromatic dragons believed that they should rule because they were powerful and therefore less powerful races should serve them. And the gem dragons believed that everyone should have the right to govern themselves. The first part of the dragon wars was the metallic and chromatic factions fighting each other, but unfortunately my ancestors were the common enemy they needed to get past their differences. They destroyed our original homeworld, and my ancestors built this place to hide themselves and their allies. Er, I mean the planet, not the school. We'll get to the school in a bit. They took a lifeless planet and made a place to live inside the planet. This used to be a fully contained world until last year. We're still adjusting to things like sky. Long story. Anyways, in the centuries since we came to this world the other dragons have formed the Dragon Empire and conquered any worlds that didn't join willingly. They take turns ruling over the Empire. And we've spent that whole time in hiding. Which kind of backfired since they slipped some of their assassins in with the refugees. There aren't very many of us dragons left here. But we're doing the best we can with what's left. And thanks to some wishcraft run amok our numbers are growing. Another long story. Anyways, there is a Resistance trying to overthrow the Empire. They kind of use this place as their home base since it's a safe place. Also my husband is their leader. But the Resistance has been taking a lot of damage lately. And events have happened that mean that they're going to find this place sometime in the next few months. So if it seems like the tone of the school is a bit militant sometimes, that's why. We're not trying to build an army. We just want them to be able to defend themselves and their home. And we know they're going to have to. We all are. As far as the school goes, well, Ryo...he's my adopted brother...he wanted to make a place where kids with powers could be safe and learn. Kids like we were. The world can be an unfriendly place for those who are different and sometimes they go really bad because of that. Even here sometimes they still go bad. But at least with this place they have a chance to be safe and make different choices that wouldn't have been available otherwise. That's what this is supposed to be about. But it seems like every other day there's someone screaming at us about how we're creating an army, blah, blah, lots more screaming, blah."

The statues symbolize the aum (beginning and end of all things), one has an open mouth and the other a closed mouth. Mìjī jīngāng (open mouth) represents overt violence and Nàluóyán jīngāng (closed mouth) represents latent strength.

"Do they protect the temple too, Lang-kun?" Midori asks, looking up at the statue, specifically at the face. It... to her, it looked almost like a painting she'd seen of an oni. Which was strange in and of itself. Maybe this was another thing she wasn't understanding properly about Lang-kun's culture.

If Lang or Grim has taken time to look, they will have noticed that Midori has not brought her weapon and tool pouches with her.

Lang looks to Midori, In a way yes, but there is more meaning than just protecting the temple. everything here has purpose to remind us or teachus about life. for example Lang points to the statue with the open mouth

Mìjī jīngāng is the guardian of the Garbhadhatu Mandala (Mandala of the Womb World) and symbolizes the power it expresses of overt violence. He is placed on the right (east) of the mountain gate with his mouth open, with the shape necessary to form the “ah” sound, and bares his teeth, representing the vocalization of the first grapheme of Sanskrit Devanāgarī, which is pronounced “a”, which symbolizes the beginning of life.

He then point to the other statue, Nàluóyán jīngāng is the guardian of the Vajradhatu Mandala (Mandala of the Diamond World) and symbolizes latent power. He is at the left (west) side of the mountain gate with his mouth tightly closed, representing the vocalization of the last grapheme of Devanāgarī, which is pronounced “ɦūṃ”, which symbolizes the end of life.

There is more to all of this but I don't really want to bore you, but Master Hito made me memorize every aspect of out temples. he said to understand yourself you have to understand the world you live in.

Midori:

these statues are /very/ similar to Misshaku Kongō, and Naraen Kongō in your temples and have very similar representations

Lang leads them past the gates into the next courtyard

in the center ofthe courtyard is a tall round brazier. the first thing you notice is that there are coins inside.

This is simply for tossing coins in for luck. it probably doesn't really bring luck but it does inspire hope.

Lang points to a tall building off to the side. That is the drum tower. it is used in our prayer rituals. and directly acroos is the the bell tower

and directly in front is the main temple, in this village this is considered the main chamber, but there are other temples that have numerous other buildings as well. like the hall of the heavanly kings and a second courtyard. in those temples the bell tower and drum tower would be located there.

also in there are the various prayer and meditation chambers. aty the temple where I train at is much larger and has several courtyards where we conduct our rituals and train in the various martial arts and bending arts.

Lang does not go into the main temple. he glances skyward. Its getting late, we should get back. there may be some monks inside in meditation and I don't want to disturb them.

The woman pauses just a moment, then smiles slightly at the misunderstanding, "I'm called Anna, sir. May I know your name-- and what specific questions you might have? Verris is one of our other nurses. He should be back shortly, in case you'd prefer to speak with him."

Taking a moment though she says, "Our admission policy is rather simple, though I cannot speak to that with authority, we have a Headmaster who is better suited-- medical, though, yes. We're quite well prepared for all sorts of issues, magical or otherwise. How do you mean, record keeping?"

Listening with interest, Maya does a decent job of not bursting out laughing at the 'screaming part' towards the end.

All in all though, she seems understanding of the situation.

"I believe your motivations are in line with my own, programming or not. Especially if there are tyrannical sorts out there bent on domination and destruction of innocents. While I'm hardly a Resistance fighter, I can be especially helpful, perhaps even more so now. So this school is a side project, on a world, which you are ancestrally associated with, that is dealing with the universal threat of ...chromatic dragons, apparently. How utterly intriguing. You've certainly have a solid reason for me to sign up. Ryo, you said? Perhaps I should speak with him?"

By way of looking over at Vare, while the ladies talk, Maya looks to try and keep Vare engaged, if only with a look, in the conversation, or to gauge his reactions.

I'll see what I can do for the symptoms though. Do you ever practice with your power?"

After getting up and wile Vickory talks Carl says little, The glow from is arm bands is still there but its seems to be fading. He starts carrying crushed things to the trash shoot, wile he dos he say.

"Nope, to much risk, I went slow there cus I knew you where close. I was thinking of how Mel nearly got killed earlier today and how we could do little to help her, that set me off"

he hammers some plating down the shoot with his bear fists, walking back he says

"after that I don't remember much, till I awoke, the arms bands cut off my mind see, out like a light, if not well I just keep growing and eating more stuff around me."

He stops and looks down, some how sad.

"When we came here, same day a ship broke up high above the town close by the school. The main chunk was heading down to mash into a manufacturing plane, 100s working there. I had to do something, to save em like, so I asked to bands to not knock me out, just for a wile, just the time I needed to stop it. They did, they let me shift all the way, they ship wreak fell into me like butter melting into hot bread. But I did nothing more than look for the next thing to eat. See when I shift I loses my mind. The bigger the Gravity elementals you are the more you become a thing of hunger. Gravity elementals will eat any thing, even eat each other. By the time I eat that ship I was a thing of hunger and nothing more. So I don't know if psychomelogy will work once I losses it, no mind to work on see. The bands stopped me pulling in whole darn planet into me. They opened a gate and pushed me right into the plane of gravity, and that should have been the end of me. They what they where made to do. Save others no me. Lucky for me Arthur a smart feller, we worked out a way to come get me before I was eaten there. owe that man me life yet again, He's pulled me from death more than once."

He looks up.

"Don't tell em I want all misty eyed about that now will ya, if he know he will not stop gabbing about it for a week."

He picks up another chunk of junk to carry to rescaling.

"Thing is when I losses it most time a don't remember a thing after. All I can do is look at the Police image recording and say "yep that was me how much to fix it""

He slames more stuff in the hopper.

He explains as they walk through the halls.

She nods.

"Thank you for helping me enrol. Would you like to be female, if you are not happy with your gender I may be able to help you Reverse Gender, Your reproductive genitalia would alter and I could if you with mind changes as well to fit your new sex. I could do it now for a day to let you see if you like it, Would you like that?"

Might have been more than an example....

Is your mind blocked in any way Tybalt? if not she will try and read it, if it is she will use Sense motive 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 wow she made it, ok she has a feeling you really would like to.

"Why don't try you may feel better"

Light from her seems to move just in front of her shifting to make a image of A female Tybalt. This image is stunningly cute ice cat.

"It would just be for one day"

This is what she wants to use on you Tybalt if you agree
reverse gender

Alreen reads a slight and fleeting thought or tone as he says it that may mean he had thought about it before.
"I'm uh, no, I'm fine, uh... not right now. I need to do some stuff before I would try that... thank you for the offer, but just not right now..."
The area gets slightly colder(Pyry will notice, but it's nothing Asha's amulet won't handle).
The fleeting glimpse at Tybalt's mind is all Alreen gets before the slight touch of her telepathy is blocked off with a mental sound of a heavy iron door closing followed by a quiet electric him in the place of bee nest like activity that was there before.
The lace(a thing he has) blocks mind reading. But only activates when he's on guard about such. Usually open, once he became uncomfortable with what he was thinking and the possibility that other people might hear it, it locks out mind reading.

"You may call me Faust, and any medical staff can answer my simple questions. My apologies for thinking you were the person asked for by the young Mr. Casil here, but you did come over in response."

"I have only two questions. First, how thorough are you and your fellow staff when it comes to checking over a patient and, two, may I see an example of the medical records so I know how to read them? I travel a lot you see, and having my children's information available and easily understood is important to me."

"Yeah, you probably should speak with him. Ryo is the Headmaster. I should probably be more formal in addressing him, but," she shrugged. "No matter how many impressive titles he gets, he'll always be my little brother. He's also a High Seer. There's a council of them. They're the closest thing Agartha, umm...that's the name of the planet you're on, anyways, they're the closest thing Agartha has to a ruling authority. Which is to say, we're a pretty divided world. Even the council of High Seers can only really give suggestions at most. But a lot of people are willing to listen to their suggestions, so that's something."

Because we know what to suggest! ;)

"Huh. You'd make a really cute girl," she said in response to the image that Alreeneesha showed. "But obviously not if you don't want to. I never realized that changing genders was even possible. Hmm.. intriguing. Not sure I would want to, but the possibility is certainly an interesting thought. I can understand why you'd be tempted to experiment with it."
