Carl looks over the Hammershafts hold, it was all fully kitted out again for mining. Also Arthur's ship was not out and in the hanger, ready for him and Tinman to work on. The left side shuttle port would mount it from now on. He pulled his whiskers, the place positively clean. There was five trash cans full of rubbish to show what had been laying about.
He stepped off the ship and closed up the hold ramp, then put this ship in standby and locked her up. He then headed off to his room on foot.

"Well...I wrote a few songs...all at once...which mostly took care of the echoes of Melody leftover in my head. And then I talked to Mel about the stuff she asked me to tell her later...she keeps a lot of secrets from herself, really. It's to a kind of ridiculous level actually. I think her first personality must have been crazy paranoid....er...it's complicated."
She looked away. "And I keep expecting things to go back to normal tomorrow and they won't. I don't know how to deal with that. It's not like I haven't lost anyone before. The streets aren't exactly a safe place for kids to live, you know? But...I thought we were safe here. I thought it was okay to let myself care about people...and I don't know how to deal with finding out I was wrong."

Dom, I, don't know how to say this, I... she is struggling with what to say and how to say it. Dom knows that when Mel gets like this she is worried or scared.

And then he hugs her, a warm, comforting embrace "No place is ever truly safe sweetie. But, its totally OK to care about people here. I mean, you clearly care about Mel, else you wouldn't have helped save her. You have some amazing friends in Tami, Rae and Morrivan, who I also know you care about." Ace says, avoiding including himself. He doesn't want her to focus on just one person at the moment.
He pauses, thinking "Yesterday was pretty freakin horrible, I'll give you that. Nobody should ever have to experience an attack like that, in a school least of all. However, we were totally caught by surprise, which is part of why it was so devastating. Now we know about this Dark Vai, and that means we can be ready to deal with her, should she try again. I was at that last stand off, and she was afraid. She couldn't take us all on by herself." He stops again, clearly looking for the best words. "I guess what I'm trying to say is its our caring for each other that saved the day. As long as I knew you and my friends were in danger, I wasn't going to let the evil Vai do anything to harm you guys. And I'm willing to bet the others who stood with me felt the same. Its probably cliche and lame, but there's a lot of love and compassion at this school, in all its various forms."

He holds on to her for a few more minutes, letting her cry if she wants then asks "Would you like to sleep in my room tonight? Last night you were there for me, so I figure I can offer to return the favor"
