See, if I don't make rules for everything, I get frustrated.
I can actually function in a game without a charley defined and agreed on ruleset.
Witch is why I never do rules light combat here.
Honestly, I question my contribution here frequently, because most of my charecters are background characters, and don't really contribute anything that no-one else could.

The stockholm syndrome comment was almost entirely tongue-in-cheek BTW. :P
As for me, when I'm DMing, I pretty much make up rules all the time. Hell, I recently had someone roll a 'Badass Check' since the actual rules for what he was going to try were going to be complicated and tedious.
Also it's important to note that while we know magic as a a system of set rules that are easy to follow and never go awry, remember that the people who inhabit the world don't know that. If magic was just about saying the right words with the right motions, almost everyone would be a wizard.
Of course that depends on your setting, which as Ice mentioned, is a homebrew thing. But then I would say that /everything/ is homebrew. It's always up to the players and DM, and rules are "really more like guidelines than actual rules". /wink
Pretty certain it says similarly, if not exactly in words, what you wrote in any of the opening pages of the rule books too.
If you have the urge to itemize breathing air into a rule, go for it. If that's your fun. If your fun is being creative and contributing to others creative ideas, since that's what collaborative storytelling is all about, woo.
Just keep an open mind to others ways as being as valid as your own. World would be a hell of a lot more peaceful that way, I'm sure.

Background characters make all the difference in making a world seem more organic and realistic. Most of my PCs started out as background NPCs who gained story traction for some reason or other, where another character who was intended to be important might struggle with gaining popularity.

So...
Who's gonna actually step through the Gate? :)
I mean, a 'Let's go.' is fine and good-- but, should I take that as an action, or merely talking? Perhaps that's the cause of a lot of my woes here.
Hee hee.
@Icehawk-- I've noticed you tend to (ferquently) point out your 'contribution' and (apparently?) question it's worth.
Why? Just ask, if you are having fun, keep going-- stop with the doubt, if that's what it is, it doesn't contribute, unless you're looking for affirmation of contribution.
If that's the case, then be blunt in your question. The GM of the game, Lynora, has repeatedly said and propped you up-- so unless you're ignoring her words, (which can happen) just ask if you're having fun or not. If you are, great. Enjoy. If not, adapt to ensure you do. Or engage others to that goal in this collaborative venture.
My caffeine induced advice! I think they gave me four shots instead of two this AM. Because, right now -- woo hoo, life is awesome!
Cheers.

I'm surprised that you could make out the post through all that spellcheck nonsense.

@Icehawk (again):
For what it's worth, I have 1 older character on here (Anahita) and one 'newer' person (Tryko'Sam). Plus the Teacher who was just recently introduced. I think I've been involved for over a real year now here?
Do I feel either has 'contributed'? Not necessarily much, by any stretch of my sense of 'accomplishment', but there's a story behind both of them that I'd like to share with whomever's interested, without just lifting up my knickers and getting it done without any foreplay.
HA! take that visual.
Anyhow... so, consider, things will /not/ go at breakneck speeds, unless people are actively engaged (starting with yourself) in what you create.
Sometimes things take more than simply throwing it out, i.e. elbow grease, to get it moving. Brilliant ideas are just one person's unless it involves others.
Not quite sure the point of this post, but it's meant to encourage you to focus on the positive and promote your people more-- involve them more. If you continue to call them background guys, that's going to be the self-fulfilling reality you perpetuate. Or something like that.
Cheers.

I used to edit rough drafts for a dyslexic friend...I didn't even notice your spelling errors. You gotta be pretty bad with the spelling before I can't read it. :)

Hey, I feel you. I think I've mentioned this before, but Vakkler didn't really bring anything to the table everyone else didn't already have. It's tough when your character seems superfluous.
The trick is largely to give them an interesting personality and reasons to hang around. And if you're consistently unable to find ways for them to contribute meaningfully, think about how they must feel. I enjoyed the hell out of Vakkler because he was next-to-useless and he knew it. That feeling of powerlessness just made him even angrier.

Ardiente is rooming with Arthur. There was a whole thing where Arthur got kicked out of the room for a while so Ardiente and Raelle could have some alone time.
Marcel was rooming with Carl, who left to go do mining work, so Marcel could get assigned a new roommate.
Remember that roommates are usually assigned same gender, with some exceptions. Have to have exceptions for Marcel. :)

OK this really sucks... (not the game)
I am at work (putting in a 14 hour day) attempting to call home all afternoon with no answer.
I am fearing the worst of course. finally at 8pm my son answers, Wife went back to the emergency room today. now its too late to get any more info.
I don't know what the heck to do right now.
I get done work in 30 min.
And of course after telling me mom is in the hospital I ask which one? he answers I don't know I just got home. and whats for dinner?
I was like seriously? I am at work all day and your mom is in the hospital and you ask what's for dinner?

We just pick a gender for the convinence of other races.

I got home and he cooked a turkey (well a small one) and some veggies and mac-n-cheese so I had a dinner for me when I got home.

I have lost track of what my characters are doing. My apologies to anyone who is waiting on one of them for a response. I am looking for the last posts from those with whom my characters were interacting, but if those characters wish to help by re-posting their last actions/comments/etc, that would be helpful. Thanks, and sorry for the ball dropping.
Cindra - In gun class
Alys - in light blades
Jessa - last in the hallway after Mithros left for class
Kezzin - "busy"
Phaezeriel - in the infirmary with .. lily?

Marcell would actually be the best fit, now that I think about it.
EDIT: Firing a quick question: can somebody list the Deadly Sins that correspond to each school of magic for me?
Could be mistaken but I think...
Envy - AbjurationSloth - Conjuration
Gluttony - Necromancy
Greed - Transmutation
Pride - Illusion
Wrath - Evocation
Lust - Enchantment
... Yeah that looks right. Will look up the official source when I have a moment.
Edit: Yup, that's right.
