The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Clerics/inquisitors are so bound, yes, but Arcane casters (also... druids perhaps?) are not.

But yes, the alignment system should not be a straightjacket - like everything else in Pathfinder, it is an abstraction to attempt to define such things. Ethics and morality is too complicated a topic for something simple like alignment.

FCD: Still thinking, sorry.

No worries Dami.

Went and checked - druids are also bound by alignment, but interestingly enough, Oracles are /not/ bound by alignment. Strange. Oversight maybe?

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Arcane casters arent prevented from casting them, but according to JJ casting spells with an alignment will and should effect the caster over time.

That's the 'hidden' part of my response above, suit the spell to the story, not just an on off component, you'll ( one trusts ) appreciate the beauty of things more.

Unless yer a twinker who's out to maximize every possible scenario. Waste of time. Avoid GMs that are just focused on stats and limiting or editing the rules to fit their world mind, that's just arrogance speaking, IMHO.

Then again, it does take a certain arrogance to GM.

You calling me arrogant, little mummy? If you were to exist in my universe, I could just will you to be gone!

Intentional, IMHO.

Oracles are conduits of a theme, the Mystery, versus a philosophy or ethos. Ergo, like Arcane casters, they "weave/will" magic to do its thing per their willpower, much like a Sorc.

Totally, but first I have to accept even stepping /into/ your realm, so who's more powerful now, fire hair?

Did you know that's a picture of a fire giant or something?

Oh, arrgangce and dm-ing don't always go together.
I dm, and I'm a nervous wreck.
Though, i only GM because none of my friends wanted to, and I've got so many cool ideas I'd love to put them out there, but i downright suck at my job.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

It's actually a Herald of Sarenrae - a Sunlord. Unique monster from the Legacy of Fire AP.

Peri would be a good guess though, since a Peri is pretty much the ultimate Sarenrae outsider IMO.

I've been GMing for quite a while, I'd recommend you consider it not work, but an act of artwork. Find the right people to encourage and inspire you, otherwise, take that time and effort and go get paid doing some close to fun.

Players are as responsible for the experience as the GM. After all, they aren't Brad Pitt or someone accomplished and masterful, are they?

Two way street, is all I'm saying.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

The players i had loved my work, and tried to encourage me to keep going.

Though, infighting didn't help, and honestly, i can't think of it as much other then work. It's dull, spending all that time making mechanics and putting everything together. Then, when it's said and done, you have to make a new said of enemies, because yours just got killed off..

(That, and to me, art is work. And a LOT of work, at that.)

And ice, try a recurring villain because they learn to fight the PC's on even ground....

I did. Guess what- it didn't work.

Though, she did last one fight, and when she came back, almost killed one of the pc's. she killed one of the pc's on her other try, too. She was the only villan in the campain who challenged them, mans she was 2 levels above them, incorporeal, used special rules for a certain type of magic*, and learned any spell you hit her with.

* (sucking life out of everything near you to power your spells. Basically, it was empowered constantly, and they took damage from the life being sucked out of them.)

The reason recurring villains were so hard is because the pc's made the game into rocket tag. It was either they tore it apart with no effort, or the thing had one of their (very few, i might add) collective weaknesses, and they all die.

Change the PCs.

Tell them it is not enjoyable otherwise. Two way street, remember that. Sounds as if you accepted or allowed characters that were too powerful for your setting.

Or, use groups of villains, not a loner. No intelligent villain ever works alone!

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Oh, only some of them were too powerful. But they were all created within the rules i set out for charecter creation.

one of our players blatantly sucked at optimization. Absolutely terrible.

Another was ok.

Another made a good fighter, well equipped to hit things till they die.
(Rocket tag wasn't entirely true. This one's con was godly.)

The last made over-optimized spellcasters.

At first it was a pair of villains. One was a fighter with dr 6/-, a 10 foot reach, and a 26 str.
Oh, and his peresnce casused hail that dealt 1d6+1 hail in a 1 mile radius.
He went down in... 3 rounds?

The campaign is already over. I couldn't take it.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

This isn't a subject we need to be on.

I can't dm worth crap, and that's that.

If you say it, so shall it be.

Far be it for me, the sadistic one as you claimed, attempt to encourage you otherwise.

I shall cease my efforts, per your request. Good luck otherwise, regardless.

At least you tried. Most folks do not even bother, nor thank another for the effort

"Discussion Thread"

What's the issue with discussing? If you want to stop, fine, stop. No need to apologize or explain why. Life is choice. Choose well. Try again when you don't. Adapt or die, as I like to say- and not literally (but kinda).

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

I don't know what to say to you a lot of the time.
It's not normal for me, feeling like i have a choice, or feeling like I'm even halfway competent.
Maybe that's why you come off aggressively to me all the time. I see compliments as sarcasm a lot of the time, because i have that mentality of "no, they can't mean that. I'm not good enough."

icehawk333 wrote:

Change your perceptions and the world opens. Otherwise, realize you are the cause of your woes and embrace that as who you are.

Human beings have put one another on the Moon and we have harnessed the energies of splitting atoms. You're a human being, accept the potential we /all/ have and be.

There's an expression about be all you can be, but I'd rather not further the violent side of our society. It's still a good expression. Stop looking to your failures as evidence or proof of whole you are.

Negativity helps no one. No one.

Or just do a post modernism thing and change your geographical location. The rest may follow.

This is how humanity endures and prospers, interacting. We left our caves long ago. Be bold and do the same. Metaphorically speaking.

Mind you, I'm not speaking or advising out of pity, that'd mean I assume you are less than me. No one is. We're all the same flesh and blood human beings, with all our flaws and blessings. It's how we choose to act that determines our place in life. So act boldly!

Or don't. Welcome to free will. Good stuff. Just don't look for limitations is my advice.

I.e. negativity bad. Just stop, is my suggestion. It is possible.

Mel is up with Carl to load up her second run.

Are Carl and Hermes on the same ship?

Yes we are,

its just like you I have the ships heading back for another load where as
the player of Hermes has us up and back again.

Hermes that would not happen as Carl would wake to load
Jumping a bit ahead there

So I would say we just landed on the sun for the second load
where as Hermes has us all ready loaded off the sun and back
kicking out the SunBod to rush off to Lunch.

I thinks one wants to get in on the action at school hehe

But its a vote thing

Well guys, i thought things were looking up because my dad got a job.
Nope.
We are now broke enough that my mom cannot drive to her unpaid job she has to finish to complete school because she has no gas. No sane company would loan us money, and dad's work is minimum wage, and it takes up most of the money he will earn just to drive there. Some of our family sent us a check, but we owe the bank money, so now that's gone when we try and cash it. Soon, we won't have enough gas for me to even get to school.

And the worst part is-
I can't do anything. Nothing. I just have to sit and watch as everything falls apart.

FML.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Ice, there should be plenty of government options for your family to turn to.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

We have food stamps. That's all we can get.

Shadow Lodge

Well, that makes the return of my electronic woes much less woeful. I hope things get better for you, Ice.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Also, if we can't get this fixed, were moving inter-state for the i don't even know anymore time, up to mishagen, living with relatives, far away from anyone i know within my age group. Or even with any of my interests.
Also, we are short enough on cash soon even food stamps won't matter- we won't be able to drive to get food.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

You can't get assistance to help pay your bills? My sister and I live in the same house, but in two separate apartments, and thus I have my own bills for electric, cable/internet, etc.

Anyways, since its just me, and I don't make very much, I qualify for bill pay assistance. Haven't gotten it yet, due to some slight entanglement in that I own 1/4 of my house, but its in trust to both my sister and my aunt.

Your parents might be able to get some of this.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Parents have looked into everything.

Now, this may not be exactly why, but it's my guess. I don't want to ask my parents why because i don't want my mom crying again.

Our house is on a non-official rent, that our close friends charge us almost nothing for, or sometimes, just nothing at all.
Thus, as far as the government is concerned, we live nowhere.
Further, my mom is a student, currently drawing student loans- you "should" be able to survive off that- if you were, you know, actually in collage, and not with a husband and 2 kids.

Both my parents have "jobs"
One is minimum wage and can barely pay the gas to get there and back every day.
The other is an unpaid internship for the end of my mom's collage course.

Icehawk, I'm sorry to hear about your family's troubles. I can only imagine how stressful that much uncertainty must be for you. I've been there as far as money troubles go, and it really wears on the whole family. I wish there was something I could do. :(

Ok, Staff does 2d10 so should I count that as a heavy weapon as well?
