male Snows of Summer

just wanted to say I do intend to 'pick this game back up' if you all stick with me till 2nd week in September. I have enjoyed it so far...thanks for the unavoidable hiatus ...looking forward to playing again in about a month!

male Snows of Summer

Hey everyone! Just giving a 'heads up' that I do intend to start posting again next week (maybe as soon as Saturday 9/15 no later than Tuesday 9/18) just want to give everyone a poke and encourage you to say hey...or here! or What's up! or something so I know you're all still with me.

Thanks for the patience..
know it's been a long wait for you all

Let be known I'll only be running this and 'Forge of the Giant God' on the PbP forums and perhaps playing (as a character) one other campaign.
Therefore, I should have plenty of 'bandwith' and we should begin moving this book along (which I've admittedly missed). Anyway looking forward to hearing from you all ! Look for a re-start post in the game-play thread soon!

male Snows of Summer

Hmm...lets get some post in until Thursday the 17th and then suspend the game until the 29th or 30th of Oct? With two players gone...I don't see much point in requiring the others to post (and botting 2 characters + an NPC is just too much for me) . So let's keep the story collaborative and suspend the game until both your returns...Keep in mind we can and should still post up till the 17th of OCT. after that we will suspend the game until Oct. 29th.
thx.

OK so before I post again I'll want Arrac, Lanfried, and Krestimbunt to post...sooner you guys post the sooner we can proceed.

male Snows of Summer

Poke... anyone awake? You all still playing? Hassan has been posting but the rest has been pretty intermittent... is everyone still interested in this game?

male Snows of Summer

Lanfried and Hassan this is not for you. Both of you told me you were going to be absent recently and have kept a steady post rate when you were able. Arrac and Krestimbunt can we pick up the post rate some? Krestimbunt it’s been two weeks + since you posted and Arrac I only have one post from you in that time. Ive noticed both of you are more engaged when a combat occurs but I still expect some input in the role-play. Hassan asked a question in the game-play thread... let’s get a response before thanksgiving o.k?

No that my apologies. I've had a bit of a busier week than I thought and completely forgot I hadn't made a post and have been thinking I had for nigh two days. Apologies. Making one now.

male Snows of Summer

So guys I'm going to go ahead and unseat Krestimbunt from this campaign.
He's been a consistently tardy poster and seems much less involved in the narrative than the rest of you. I would suggest you take this opportunity from a story point to turn back to Heldren and warm up Hassan and let Newmark rest for the night so he can re-memorize spells. (Newmark can memorize endure elements for Hassan) .

I'm tired of waiting on Kres...if you guys want to recruit another player please feel free to drop a link to our discussion thread in the Flaxseed recruitment thread. As for the party they can head back to Heldren rest up for the night and get cracking at it again tomorrow. As for Kres...my mind is made up 3 weeks of absence with no explanation or warning is not acceptable. He's gone.

Hey everyone we got a new player...that player needs some time to make a new character..The player will drop by the discussion thread in next couple of days and update us...We should be moving on by begining-middle of next week.

Surprise, I got it worked out sooner than expected.

Hello fellow heroes, meet Wassilissa. She is from Irrisen, stranded in Taldor for family reasons.

build wise I'm aiming for archer/sorcerer. To be able to do the skill monkey part (which I like a lot) I took Trapper Ranger. To keep getting skills, I will go sage. Only thing I can't really cover is social interaction, as I lack the charisma. Looking through your characters, it looks like I'm the one with the second highest charisma nonetheless. :D

I hope I did the PFS build correctly. 20point buy, 150 gold, two traits, one from the AP, class selections from UM.

With the equipment I might still fiddle around a bit as I only have the bare minimum and I forgot the arrows to my bow.

Welcome to the game, pleased to have you join up! Hassan is a Qadirian inquisitor of Sarenrae. He has a xenophobic outlook and basic distrust of "wild" (non-divine) magic. He hates witches above all things. He can be a bit mule-headed about how things should be instead of how they are. Decent in a fight or with a bow, can also bring some divine healing and magic as needed.

Perhaps after we arrive back we sell what little loot we collected? Then offer a willing mercenary such as Wassillissa 50gp and a share of the treasure to take the place of our missing member..(it's a good plot hook that starts you off with 50 extra gp...unless the players object I'll default to that hook ..that one night while were at the Inn Newmark stands up and makes the offer..(unless you guys would rather introduce the new character a different way?)

Lanfried takes a moment outside the inn to knock the snow from his boots. He also takes a moment to brush the worst of it out of Grawlic's fur. When he is satisfied he opens the door and the two enter the inn. Within moments Grawlic is curled before the hearth purring like a kitten.

Lanfried, you're sure you wanted to post this in discussion?

As for my entrance, I thought about approaching the group a little overexcited, inquiring about the weather the snow and the cold pushing myself on the group to come along on the next trip to the forest. The reason for that is in my background story (see Profile).

Of course I'd take the gold too. With the things bought so far I'm short an armor. Depending on what loot you got you could just throw me an armor instead.

Suggestion in detail assuming Lanfried's post was meant for gameplay.

Entrance Proposal:
Wassilissa walks through the village looking for anyone who knows more about the rumors. Snow in the Border Wood. That's too good to be true. It's one of the many drawbacks of living on a farm outside a backwater village. Nothing ever happens, and even when something happens, you're the last to know.

Wassilissa would like it best to run off and see it for herself. But it is a two to three hour walk to get there. So she searches for any stranger that might have come past the woods. The villagers are no help. They are afraid of the situation and tell of monsters, you'd expect in fairy tales to scare little kids.

As she sees the group of brave men, some in thick clothes and traces of snow at their boots, she starts running. Just as the men make themselves comfortable Wassilissa approaches them at their table. Without a proper greeting she springs them with her questions. "Have you been to the Borderwood? Is there really snow? I mean really?" She shows with her hands a foot apart how high she considers really snow. "Are you going there again? Can I come along?" She doesn't care that a no to the first question would make all the others obsolete. That is what wishful thinking does to you.

With everything that she needed to get off her heart said, she stands there in this awkward situation she created, waiting for someone to answer her.

male Snows of Summer

Wassilissa you can Ninja dot...Obviously I took Wassilissa's proposed post a re-wrote it in third person. So it's up to one of you guys to respond.

Wassilissa you may respond as soon as one of the players responds to your initial greeting.

As far as loot goes it's best to sell what you have now and divided it up among the four of original members..If Wassilissa is coming up short on equipment Newmark has no problem giving her an advance out of the party fund. I also think it's imperative we get Hassan a cold weather outfit.

Has anyone kept track of loot? If not someone needs to make a spread sheet and drop it into the Google docs folder. I can give you a list in the discussion thread of what you found so far if you need it.

Ok so Newmark has the highest appraise at +7 most of the items are metal so if Lanfried cast 'guidance' on Newmark while he was evaluating the treasure Newmark could 'take 10' on all the metal items and be 100% accurate in their value...(remember you'll only get to sell the items for 1/2 what Newmark appraises them for unless they're jewelry or gems)
That only leaves me to roll for the courtier's outfits..
appraise: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 = 13 inaccuracy: 1d100 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
Newmark judges the courtier’s outfits to be worth about 62gp

42gp (from battle with winter touched sprites)
MW dagger
MW chain shirt (both from the chest you discovered half buried and trapped..there was a lot of mundane weapons as well but you didn't take them..is anyone wearing the MW chain shirt?)
three courtier’s outfits worth a total of 62 gp. (from the wrecked carriage)
MW long sword from the frozen captain...

from Lady Argenta's carriage strong box:
Lady Argentea’s signet ring (undetermined)
a pair of earrings worth 25 gp,
a set of pearl-inlaid bracelets worth 90 gp,
assorted gold and silver necklaces worth a total of 75gp
sapphire pendant worth 50 gp.

Ok I assome we're going to keep the MW longsword, MW dagger, and MW chainshirt...
assuming you sell all the jewelry (240gp)
the outfits (31gp)
and keep the gold you already collected (42gp)
Means you divide 313gp 4 ways...
Nemark suggest 75gp for each of the 4...Hassan keep the MW chain shirt (or Arrac) Arrac or Hassan keep the sword...and Lanfried keep the MW dagger
the remaining 13gp should be given to the
Wassilissa as and advance to fill out her equipment

btw unless anyone has major objection to this division of treasure I'm going to roll with it and adjust your herolab character profiles accordingly..please let me know who kept what MW item(s)..Hassan suggest you buy a cold weather outfit with your share.

I'd rather the chain shirt, as I already have plenty of weapons. The plus one AC would nice as well.

as for purchases, I may purchase a few mundane items, but 75g isn't enough to worry too much with haha.

that said, I wouldn't mind putting some money towards healing in the form of scrolls for the group if others want to do the same.

That's why I listed what was available...

Newmark will donate 25gp of his 75gp to buy a scroll of cure lt from the temple and give it to Lanfried so he has extra healing for the party...

Wassilissa would gladly buy it at half price. ;)

Somewhere along the line, Hassan picked up a breastplate which he is wearing. His Hide Armor is available for free if Wassilissa wants to use that, otherwise you can add 7.5 gp (half price to sell) to the loot pile. Because he has the breastplate, Hassan will pass on the MW Chain shirt.

Hassan is not proficient with the longsword, so the MW blade isn't useful to him, unless you consider switching to a scimitar. He would take the MW dagger if no else claims it. He does also have the cold-iron longsword that the northman who was ambushed gave to him, though he can't really use it effectively. If anyone else wants to carry that blade, Hassan would give over.

if you mention it in game Arrac would likely laugh at the thought of you in his old leather, seeing how big it would likely be, but would likely just offer it to you free of charge.

Hide Armor is only a -3 penalty, but the point is the same. If you don't want, let's add it to the sell pile. Sounds like Wassilissa is also getting the MW longsword.

It is nice to have some conversation in game, but that only works well if the players are online at about the same time. It was great with many posts at the weekend, but it is a bit harder to manage during workdays.

I'm wondering when your times are when you check posts and have the time to answer them. I like this fast back and forth that allows for in game conversations, but I'd like to avoid starting one when the answering character will answer a day later and this blocks the game (or the game moves on not caring for the conversation).

I'm on CET and I try to check once in the morning and then in the evening starting about 6pm I check more or less continuously until 10pm. When I have no appointments.

I am not averse to a "table time" if it can be worked out, even if its only on certain days etc.

I will be leaving tomorrow AM for a trip for the holiday (US) weekend. I will return home late on Saturday. Should be able to check and perhaps post during that interim, but no promises. Run Hassan as you see fit in the interim.

We'll be recruiting up to three more players for, a new Reign of Winter Campaign. Character's start at 1 level (no XP): For now build your character PFS legal (options may open by group consensus). There will be some additional book restrictions that, are currently PFS legal (but, don't worry about it for now). Players who use Herolab given preference ...but, exceptions could be made for an exceptional candidate.

We will choose 2 other players, based on past PbP Role-playing documentation. Also most importantly, enthusiasm and the willingness to post 6 times a week or more (planned vacations and family emergencies being the exception) is what will separate you from the crowd !

If you feel you might like to apply..please offer one or two character concepts in this thread. Include a simplified backstory ( a sentence or two of who they are and why they might want be involved is enough), What class, archtype (if any), and what particular trait or gimmick..makes your character special..

That's it! I will be handing out chronicles for anyone who wants PFS credit, once we complete the book (obviously we'll be playing in Campaign mode). There's no guarantee we'll go beyond book one. (unless we use a rotating GM strategy or, I have a change of heart)

Good luck..
Hope to hear from some interesting applicants!

dotting here.

Thinking either a druid(possible a wintry type) or an oracle of winter. Or I might just go go plain jane with a fighter. Love some fighters, such a versatile class in regards to RP aspects.

Argh! That was quicker than I was expecting, character creation go!

Just for the sake of convenience, Reign of Winter Player's Guide

Would you allow a Skinwalker with the Beast Talker alternate trait? Mainly because speak with animals at will is very appealing. Probably with Hunter in mind. No prep work done and one of a plethora of options so not a big deal if its a no go.

What the current party makeup? Any particular needs?

No particular party make-up so far...Two players are already in..and have not presented their characters but will shortly. This thread is for the remaining 2-3 players to present a couple character concepts (with short back-story 1-2 sentences) and tells us why you think you'd fit best in a campaign that will have an active posting schedule..with heavy emphasis on role-play over roll-play.

Your mechanics don't maters so much as to how you present your characters..We all know what a witch and or Barbarian does....But what about the Barbarian who becomes a witch because , the Hags of Irrisen stole his love many years ago when he was hunting Mammoths on the plains? (something along those lines..tell us more about what motivates you character(s) or what personality quirks they have. I'm sure most players that are active on the boards are quite competent in building a sound mechanical character...But, can you describe how he feels when he see's a horde of zombies with their mouth sewn shut approaching his campfire?

Nass Marlus has been a wanderer since his Da kicked him out for being an "ugly freak" in his early teens. After years of living as a hunter and trapper in the wilds he rescued a freezing young woman, Kella, from the river nursed her back to health and fell in love. Kella did not care about his appearance, and for two years they lived in simple contentment until her witch Mistress tracked her down dominated Nass and forced him to kill Kella then jump off a cliff.

Born with an angry lumpy red birthmark that covers two thirds of his face Nass has a massive inferiority complex and prefers the company of animals to people. He would be a human Hunter with an Aristotherium AC, its essentially a double horned hairy rhino. They would attack in melee together, and I might consider the Mammoth Rider PRC down the line.

Nass always covers his lower face, usually with a simple piece of cloth, walks with a stoop, and rarely meets any bodies eyes. He is invariably self deprecating and hates to argue with others. He is truly terrified of being mind controlled again, loathes those who do such things, and seeks methods to guard against being manipulated again.

Arrac, (human or half-elf, not quite sure yet) Is a young man that fancies himself a hero and master warrior. He grew up on stories of hero's and legends, and as he got older he would become the best swordsmen in his village, for his age. He eventually got a wanderlust and set out to find adventure worthy of his blade. That said, he isn't as grand as he often claims and sometimes, most times, gets in over his head. That said he is no pushover in combat and is adept at all manner of weaponry! While he can be a bit pompous at times, he truly cares about folk. While he does wish to be seen as a hero, like the characters in the stories he heard growing up, he becomes oddly down to earth when good folk have their lives on the line. He also uses jokes to ease his fear often time. Like the time he cracked several puns while defending a caravan from a goblin attack. He even stuffed a watermelon over a goblins head!

so, a light-hearted, well-meaning, naive lad. He believes that the world will turn out ok, as long as people try. Or, an optimist. Likely a type of frontliner. Probably fighter, archetype if any is undecided, though was looking at unbreakable.

Sczarni

Dotting, I use herolabs as well

I'll toss my hat in the ring and see what I can conjure up.

Putting forward a couple of character concepts for consideration

A dwarven arctic druid with a snow leopard companion. Coming from the Land of the Linnorm Kings he lives for the land. He is at home in the cold and has a cheery disposition.

A human witchguard ranger. He won an archery championship as a youth and was selected by the white witches to train as a bodyguard and protector. A little gruff he takes his job seriously, but any day where those he protects survive is a good day.

Heldren and the town he was raised in bear his grandfather’s name. His grandfather was a retired Ulfen Guard who spent his fortune, and retirement, building this community but abruptly left for the north several years ago mumbling some about Witches. Like his grandfather young Heldren is a giant and massive man standing a full head over six feet, broad shouldered and deep of chest, with a massive corded neck and heavily muscled limbs gained from spending hours working at the town smithy. While Heldren is an Ulfen at hart there is more to him than meets the eye he is open and inquisitive as well as a lover of singing, debate, and physical challenges, embracing these as experiences which will please his ancestors. The young Ulfen often gives advice in riddles, aphorisms, and metaphors of his people. He yearns to leave the smithy and travel north for rumors of what happened to his grandfather.

Class: Skald
Trait: Northern ancestry

About me:

I have been gaming since the early 80’s, although there was a 20 year period where it was hard to find people to play with (1992-2011). I enjoyed playing pathfinder weekly in a home brew from 2011 until this summer when I relocated for work. The move helped (forced) me discover the pbp format and I love it!! I feel it is a much better medium to bring PC’s to life. Some of the games I have enjoyed over the years are D&D (and all its versions), AD&D, Champions, GURPS, Star Frontiers, Call of Cthulhu, Boot Hill, Gang Busters, Shadow Run, Marvel Super Heroes, Rune Quest, Mouse Guard, The One Ring, Traveller, Villains and Vigilantes and a few other I have probably forgotten.

I live in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States (Indiana) and can usually post in the morning (4-6am) and the evening (6-10pm). I have been married for almost 20 years and have two kids (one a freshman in High School and the other in fourth grade).

I'm just curious why using herolab matters. Accuracy?

Mustachioed wrote:

Not just accuracy, Herolab is coded pretty good. It knows what buffs stack ect...So there's an ease of use factor. Also if we decide to maybe run a session on another board besides the Paizo boards it's a great back-up for record keeping.

The tactical council makes it easier to track combats.

Mostly if I want to look at a player closely Herolab tells me instantly what's going on.

note: If I like a character concept enough, there's no need for herolab..I'll just punch him in myself.
Plain and simple...I just like it.

Here is Hassan, who is a witch-hunting Inquisitor of Sarenrae from nearby Qadira. He was sent to Heldren to find the cause of the strange weather nearby, as the Qadirans think it is some kind of Taldan weapon.

He was raised in a tribe that detests witchcraft as heresy to the sun goddess and his intolerance is quite apparent. Makes for an interesting dynamic if there is a witch in the party...Hassan is proud, quiet and determined to do his duty and honor the Dawnflower and her faith and tenets, which may come to protecting a village in Taldor, despite the enmity between his nation and that one.

Let me know if you need more details. His crunch is attached here:

Some Fluff:
Raised in the desert Plains of Padesh of Qadira, Hassan grew up in a tribe of very fundamental believers in Sarenrae. While followers of other good-aligned gods were at least tolerated, others were persecuted including attacks and burnings. He was trained in the use of the scimitar and longbow as a youth as his tribe as the scourge of the steppes.

Arcane magic users were considered witches in his tribe, and he was raised to hate and fear them. In his early teen years, he lost both his parents to disease, which his tribal shaman attributed to witchcraft. Hence, his hatred which formed early was cemented. The rest of his education was with a church sponsored orphanage in Omash. The priests who run this church have heard of strange happenings in the Border Woods and have sent Hassan, now of age, to investigate.

Hassan has been in 2-3 failed RoW campaigns but not made it very far into book 1.

Full disclosure: I have run this full campaign in tabletop game, and am currently running it via PBP on another thread. Can help out with maps, advice etc, but if knowing the story, as written, disqualifies me, I understand. I am 100% a HeroLab user and find it utterly invaluable.

caps here. I created this character for another campaign that the GM ditched before we made it very far. I would need to rework the crunch (the GM was allowing some specific 3pp material) and that might lead to a few fluff tweaks, but I like the character concept a lot from an RP perspective. You can see a dozen examples of his RP in his posts from that campaign (he has 16 posts total).

I will repost his "fluff" in a spoiler here so you don't have to dig it out of his profile:

Fluff:
Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

Scraggly graying beard, hair a mix of white, gray, and dark. Sometimes it is tied back, but never very well, so that many strands are loose. Teeth are in okay condition but are rather crooked. Piercing gray/blue eyes. Face craggy and wrinkled. Deep scratchy voice.
Consummate Woodsman
Viking-ish
Loner
Generally at least a little dirty
Somewhat superstitious
Doesn't revere a particular god, but believes strongly in the power and capriciousness of the gods
Carries Greatsword wrapped in blankets, strapped to his back. It is a weapon of war, and he is not at war, so he has no need of it at present. But he has fought in enough wars not to give it up. He uses his Longspear and Longbow for hunting.
Greatsword was a gift from a warlord that Kinnith served under
Longbow has been in family for several generations

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Kinnith is mostly looking to survive the harsh winters of the north lands without angering the gods, his neighbors, or the land and its creatures. He sees himself as part of a larger whole; he would never say or think anything of "balance" in a yin-yang sense, but he has learned that there is a natural rhythm to nature and he would seek to stop those who would disrupt that rhythm. His desire to avoid angering the gods also sometimes becomes a drive to actively please them. He is not generally a driven or goal-oriented man, however.
As a player, my goal for him is to try something new (I almost always play LG or NG characters with a strong moral compass that are frequently also devout) from a role play perspective.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character.

Kinnith has been married three times; he was widowed once, divorced once, and cuckolded once. He is still legally married to his last wife, but has not seen her in several years. He believes he has no heir.
He does in fact have an heir.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

His second wife hated him because of his outdoorsy habits. His third wife still likes him but is upset at him for leaving.
He has good relations with a noble/warlord that dwells not too far from Kinnith's home forest in the north. Most of the people he fought alongside value and trust him as well.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

He doesn't keep himself very clean.
He is very superstitious.
He doesn't like to sit in chairs or lay on beds. He prefers to squat or sit on the ground and likewise prefers to sleep on the floor.

I do not use or possess Herolab. I am happy to post my stat blocks using a template that Herolab generates, but I prefer to write them up myself, manually.

Also caps. This is another character from a previous campaign that could be a good fit here, namely because he is a witchguard. I really enjoyed playing him and he had one of my favorite RPG moments; he was scouting ahead of the party when he was ambushed by several kobolds. Outnumbered and outmatched (and not wearing his regular armor due to traveling in the heat) he took several of the kobolds out and eventually forced the one with class levels to run away.

Here is his background, which could be easily reskinned to fit this campaign:

background:
Chantif's entire upbringing was centered on training him to follow in his ancestor's footsteps in the foothills of Arkhym's Teeth as a witchguard. When he was given his first ward at the age of 18, he felt pride and delight.

He and his partner did not have long to learn to work together before their first expedition into Akrhym's teeth. They were ambushed by a party of Orcs and Chantif's ward went down in the fight. Although he managed to slay their attackers, he fell unconscious. When he came to, his partner was dead.

Ashamed of his failure, he did not return home, but instead went to answer Shem's call for heroes, hoping to redeem his name.

Wow this is going to be hard! some fantastic character concepts so far!

I will add that I do have herolab, albeit I just dusted it off and updated it. It did not have the animal companion I was going to go with so I will switch out for a wooly rhino.

That said those without herolab could just copy the profile of a herolab character and edit accordingly, that would at least cover the knowing where everything is aspect.

Hi there all!

I am one of two players that the GM invited to play, and he asked us to introduce ourselves and help moderate the discussion.

Mustachioed wrote:

Speaking as a GM that uses HeroLabs: not only is it as LH pointed out, but when you use HeroLabs as a GM you can punch everyone into the same file along with all of your GM creatures. This makes running combats SSSSOOOOOO much easier in PbP because you never have to wonder who's effects are active or what modifiers are in play.. you tap a few keys and its right in front of your face. Everything from conditions to modifiers, to HP.. and if I have to secretly roll something for one of my players, I have all of the info right there and don't have to tip them off by saying "Hey, let me see your sheet for a sec!"

Other than that, there are some good concepts at work here!
Personally, I have no effing clue what I am going to play yet.. I am going to let the dust settle a bit on things before I see what might be needed and wanted at the table.

Anyways, glad to meet you and hope to be gaming with you soon!

Silver Crusade

A few possibilities are already floating around in my head. Outpost may have me occupied at the presently planned start time, but I'd love to make it work if I can.

Ietsuna - Dwarf Arctic Druid
Heldren - Human Skald

Caps - Kinnith - Human Spell-less Ranger
Caps - Chantif - Human Witchguard Ranger
Vulf Sorgrim - TBA
Raltus - TBA
Awenydd83 - TBA

I started to play in a game of this a long while back. The character creation was process was very generous, so he would need to be rebuilt mechanically.

Grimgisli

Grim was a trained hunter who expanded into trapping, because, well, when traps work they make it easier to eat and have commercial pelts . . ..

After being driven from home because of bad blood between himself and his brother, Grim has turned to world exploration and mapping as his personal goal. In reality, though, he just wants to find a new home and family where he can be happy.

Original build is a Ranger (Trapper). Variations off of Rogue, Hunter, and Slayer would be reasonable builds, too.

Edit: I could also work an arcane angle of some kind. Either a pyromaniac Gnome who can't stand the cold, or a cold-based caster. Either way.

Edit2: I do not have Herolabs. I can't convince myself to pay a third party to use material I've already purchased. If that's a disqualifier, so be it.

I would also like to throw my "hat" in the Ring. I have several obstacles in the way however, shown below.

1. I don't have herolab nor want it currently. However I will be more than happy to format my character like herolab to make it easier after I find a poster that has used it before.

2. I'm not interested in PFS character so originally I was out on this thread however after watching for the last few days it seems like you are pretty much open to a lot of things, with the understanding that it will count against me.

So with that, I decide I would go ahead with my character concept, knowing that it is a longshot but because I enjoy creating characters and backgrounds I figured the worst you could say is No, I which case I will, "Talk to my emotional support animal, Fluffy the Snake for help." I know by my profile that it seems I'm new, but this is a new avatar and I'm willing to give you my old one if you need to look up other posting examples.

Ulif was born to One of the best carpenters in the region, even at a young age he was helping his father make beds, cabinets, snowshoes or even longbows to help hunt stags in the Fell Woods north of his home. When not helping his father he was always found in the woods seeking a rare Wytchebark tree, you see the leaves of the wytchebark were a striking blood red where the trunk was as black as the deepest night only his father has ever seen one and Ulif was bound and determined to find the sight that only his father has ever seen. Myths of it was that if you ever touch the tree a curse would befall you, but Ulif didn't believe in curses. finally one fateful day Ulif was traveling in the woods looking for another haul of firewood and Oak to complete a job for a local woodsman. When he came across a clearing with the Wytchebark tree even knowing that the myths surrounding the tree were fake Ulif couldn't help but be amazed. It was more beautiful than he could ever imagine. That's when he knew that he wanted it to make his masterpiece to honor his ancestors. so he took a axe and chopped it down. felling the large tree Ulif was surprised to see snow start to fall..... (start of the adventure)

build idea-
Ulif will be a Sylvan Trickster unchained Rogue (or regular rogue) at level five if the campaign lasts that long, he will take Master carpenter (craftsman) feat to enhance his weapon of choice, his Quarterstaff. Ulif will be a charismatic storyteller with a down to earth feel of a working man, he will not be the dexterous rogue due to the brutal hard life in the woods. He is enamored with storytelling, folklore, Spellcraft, and magic even though he cant cast a spell. (might change later) he carries a quarterstaff and a very long knife, (S.sword) and a handaxe.

Traits-
Signature moves- (masterwork Black Wytchebark staff)
Warded against witchery. (from the encounter with the Wytchebark tree)

Feats-
weapon focus- quarterstaff
skill focus- UMD-

If you like the Idea I will be happy to expand on the character and the history I gave a short summery and not the full background.

Raltus wrote:

For now just make the character PFS legal or as close to it as you can...a full build isn't necessary...just concept(s) and demonstration of commitment, to regularly post.. and a desire to fully flesh out your character through roll-playing. (ie. if you prefer to just roll your dice for a diplomacy check instead of elaborate what your character is trying to communicate....this may not be the best campaign fit.)

As for Herolab..it's preferred but not necessary; one of the two people already chosen, does not own or use herolab and I'm fine with that.

You do not need to fully build a character yet when we select two more applicants to play; we will have a discussion about what house rules we want to implement.. that will include what books we allow in the campaign.

This is not a PFS game ..Rather a PFS sanctioned adventure path book that, we will play in Campaign mode. For those of you not familiar with the term, it means we get to play the book, with whatever house rules we want to implement. I will award a chronicles, only to players who want them at the completion of book 1.

Hope these answers some questions. Since I'm getting an abundance of very qualified applicants..I'm thinking of closing recruiting on Friday the 8th..Aywendd83 and letsuna are you OK with that?..please let me know in the discussion thread.

Going to throw my two concepts in as well. Please see below for the characters and their details:

Lotke Brevant:

Human (Ulfen) N ninja (frozen shadow) 1

Story: Lotke has been a henchman all his life. A boisterous, stupid Ulfen, he bounced around from orphanage to orphanage as a child, then gang to gang, then cult to cult, most recently a cult of Tien killers calling itself the Frozen Shadows. When a group of adventurers smashed through their hideout in the Land of Linnorm Kings and left him for dead, he went to ground in a small town where no one would think to look for him and began hiring out his services as an enforcer and assassin. He is desperate to find someone new to work for, literally asking anyone, even the baker or woodcutter, if they need help killing someone.

Mechanics: Lotke is a loud, simple-minded Ulfen ninja. He uses simple farming tools like sickles to rip into his foes due to not really understanding the intricacies of martial weapons.

Mirima Culdrif + Bonefeather:

Half-elf CN unchained summoner (fey-caller) 1

Story: Mirima was born from a tryst between a Taldane noble and an elf of the nearby forest. These children are sometimes sent to special boarding houses where they are cared for in groups without their parents' shame being known. In one such house, Mirima grew. The children of the house had a chant they sung every night, channeling their anger at their cruel house-mother. One such night, the children managed to call something from the fey world, a creature calling itself 'Bonefeather'. It began to torment the house-mother in turn, keeping her up all night hearing ghostly voices (using its ghost sound ability). She soon went insane and left the house forever. Unbeknownst to Mirima, who thought it simply good luck, but she had struck an alien bargain with the creature. The two have been inseparable ever since. Mirima, or Miri to her friends, is charismatic and jovial most times, with a shock of red hair flowing over pointed ears. Bonefeather is a gaunt, hunched bipedal creature, with pale green skin and its face hidden by the skull and horns of an unknown animal. They travel about the Inner Sea, seeking to learn more about the magic that connects them.

Mechanics: Mirima prefers to cast from the back, using her spells to aid her inscrutable fey companion. Bonefeather uses its ghost sound ability to create strange laughter or unfamiliar rhythms before closing in to destroy its foes. It prefers its victims to be unsettled before they go unconscious.

Reign of Winter is definitely one of my favorite Pathfinder Campaign ideas. I admittedly do own only the first book, but also haven't read it since May of 2015, and even then I skimmed, hope that doesn't hurt me too much here. For your consideration, Krestimbunt Gruth.

I'm looking forward to seeing who is selected.

I should add that as far as party balance is concerned, I think the core of this character is really in his fluff. He could fill a wide variety of roles or classes. What matters to me is his personality, background, and beliefs.

Would love to throw this character into the mix.

He was used in one Reign of winter game that died within the 1st fight.
Only Change will be changing to Arsenault Chaplain

I will get him sorted to your specifications within a day or two.

Oh, and I have an old laptop that hates hero lab, but that may change in a week or so, for what that's worth.

Sczarni

If its not too late for submissions I'd love to toss my hat in the ring, or rather my Dwarven Gunslinger's hat. I exclusively use hero labs and can guarantee a minimum of 1 post a day, I'm usually able to do more though.

Mort is a Dwarf hailing from the Five Kings Mountains originally who took up bounty hunting as a hobby that he found he was especially good at. Having a boomstick certainly helps but who's asking'? his family is a Clan of Dwarves that got there fame from being werewolf hunters and he always take bounties on known were-things pro bono.

Ok everyone the after conferring with the two seated players and double checking some stuff I'm going to announce the selections: Please note: if you were not picked there's no reason not to apply to one of my games again. Also, it's un-likely but we may PM one of you, asking to join the game (within a 3-4 days) if it's decided to play with a 5th player.

OK the winners are
Krestimbunt Gruth and
Hassan al'Akbar

Congrats to the winning applicants (expect a PM shortly) Thank you everyone for wonderful submissions.

Silver Crusade

Hi all, I've decided to make a barbarian. I haven't decided on a few aspects yet, I'm not sure if I will go unchained, and I am not sure if I will go Invulnerable rager or armored Hulk.

Luckless, are you ok with me taking one of the above archetypes as an unchained barbarian?

U mean the regular barbarian archetypes for an unchained barbarian? Um sure as long as it doesn’t mess with herolab I’m cool with it. Hassan do u see any balance issues with that?

Silver Crusade

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Invulnerable rager at least would work fine.

The main reason I ask is, because if I could, it would make the unchained a pretty tempting option due to it being a little more defensive in nature compared to the normal barbarian.

Liberty's Edge

Looking at it both the archetypes replace Trap Sense, a skill that the U.Barb doesn't have. The U.Barb gets Danger Sense instead. Not sure if there is an errata somewhere that makes Trap Sense and Danger Sense equivalent.

Silver Crusade

Well, I don't quite feel up to looking for one. (Danger sense seems to be just a slightly improved version of trap sense) but, Just to save on the hassle, I'll go with a "chained" Ulfen barbarian.
