Lol! I thought it was some kind of illusion spell and for the life of me couldn't figure out which one it was.
But I'm fairly certain Mirror Image is a "you" only spell. I'd check to make sure but I'm just too dang tired. :P
ARRRRGGGGGG
I swear, writing posts at 2am is killing me.

Lol! I thought it was some kind of illusion spell and for the life of me couldn't figure out which one it was.
Yeah, I was totally taken in by the snake/Snake thing. I couldn't figure out if it was a minor image or a summon of some kind ... but that was 1d3 creatures.
When I ran Second Darkness for my RL group, one player ran a wandering tough-guy-type based on Clint Eastwood who wouldn't give a name, saying "Just call me 'Nobody," in a Clint-Eastwood rasp. Only then whenever the party found treasure and he'd say, "Hey, 'Nobody' could use that!" the other players would tease him, saying, "Nobody wants it, huh? Guess we'll just leave it here then, if no one can use it!" He came up with a real name for his PC to share with the other party members pretty quick.
Will update the gameplay tomorrow.

Thornborn |

I have to disagree. A pekingese named Genghis doesn't change history. And Nemo is older than submarines, if the testimony of a blinded cyclops can be trusted. I always thought the Indic got the name from the Greek, and sat through the Fish's movie waiting for someone, anyone, to use the 'Nemo'='no one' joke.

Javell DeLeon |

Sorry, Thornborn, but I'm afraid Joana's right. I gotta confess, when I read 'Nemo' in your post the first thing that popped into my head was, 'the tiny orange-and-white fish with a gimpy fin'. Sorry. Kids and all that you know. :)
You're gonna have to throw 'Captain' in there to make it cool, bud. :)

Braddon Hurst |

So, I've decided to do the whole Sorcerer, Disguise Self, Bluff, master of disguise thing one day. They'd be a half-elf but I wasn't going to give them a name or gender, so they could be anybody.
But at work, I sit next to a lovely girl called Monica.
So, I've decided my master of disguise will be called Moniker. :-D

Almost forgot... Lol! That's just awesome.

Joana |

Posted in Gameplay earlier and then had to rush afk for a while. Did I miss any current effects? I saw Tendal had cast mage armor earlier, but I didn't immediately run across any mention of Snake or Gristav doing the same. Gristav, I rolled randomly to see how much time had passed since you activated your Arcane Pool.

Joana |

Move to the 10-column, E, D, or C, whatever's possible, and wait for Braddon to move out of the swarm.
You can make it to E10, but because the water is difficult terrain, it will take a double-move. If you wanted to take a single move and have an action to spare, the farthest you could get would be D11. If you'd rather do that and ready, then let me know and I'll retcon your position.

Joana |

I somehow didn't see the update for last week...I thought we were waiting on Snake. No matter though. Tendal is hurt and needs to keep his head down regardless.
Probably because the last new post was at the top of the page. I've done that before: clicked on the (x new) and read to the bottom of the page without noticing there was a next page to click to.
Anyway, Tendal is delaying so you can act whenever you want if something comes up and you don't want to wait until his next turn in initiative.

Joana |

(Full attack. Many apologies for not responding to 25 April 2018. Completely missed it. Will pay more attention in future.)
Not your fault at all. What actually happened was, I'm using the physical book (written in 3.5 rules) in combination with fan-made Hero Lab files converted to PfRPG. In 3.5 rules, the save vs. Distraction happens at the beginning of the PC's turn so I would have called for it when Braddon was up in initiative, but in Pathfinder, the save happens on the swarm's turn when it deals damage, so I should have called for it on the swarm's initiative. I just fell in between the two sets of rules for a bit and didn't realize it until after you'd posted.

Gristav |

Nigel's now Magnimar's 'friend' though... friends don't stick splinters under friends fingernails...
You know when you know you're probably wrong but there's no time to confirm so you forge ahead anyway in humbled hope? No? Maybe that's just me.
I think Nigel made his save? So he's been standing by (Gris/Ed thought) owing to a general lack of esprit in his corps.
And there's nine messages in the action tab, so I'll likely find out another casting of Charm went out, now...

Joana |

Probably easily missed, since we swept into combat on the same post, but Nigel did indeed roll a 24 to save vs. Tendal's wand. He is, at present, "cooperating" without arcane influence.
Is everyone ready to drop out of combat rounds, with the caveat that Braddon will keep menacing Ratcatcher 3 and Phillip will keep a crossbow trained on Nigel (Ratcatcher 1)?

Gristav |

But Nigel said "it's already too late", and has been standing by complacently. Odd that. Mr. Silvercoin (have we had another name for him? Silver will do) has confessed to the murder of an old woman; Gristav owes him no comfort. Silver is welcoming of a good binding - insists on it - and doesn't seem to be at all worried that these new unknowns who've already butchered one of his party won't maltreat him. The man's got an ace up his sleeve, thinks Gristav. An ace he tried to play once already, unless pouting and grimacing is the latest fad in Chelaxia. He doesn't fear the ropes; they won't restrain him. So, what other cards have we seen played? Well, the hound fled, not from smoke, not even burning garbage smoke, away from friend and master, no.
Something worse. Cockroach swarm? Not such a foulness as to be scented from the ridge, not if you're planning them as a trap.
What smells strongly enough to scent from that distance?
Men, unwashed men. But that won't scare a hound. So, unwashed... not-men?
So, would that be KN: Local, or KN: Arcana? Poling my local clever folk led, as such things do, to a long ranging debate that was fun, but useless, except to suggest maybe Abberants are Dungeoneering... So, had to take the chance.
Gris thinks Silver (and 'already too late' Nigel) is a shapeshifter, probably a rat-were based on all the rats we've spotted. But _any_ shapeshifter won't want to swallow a silver coin (most sentients, even), and having swallowed it, Gristav will elaborate on how the inch-wide coin will pass a man in days, but burst from a rat, in seconds.
I suppose maybe this will be another of those Warlock Holmesian moments, where Gris is just plain wrong. Oh, the damage that will do, to his reputation.

Joana |

2. While lycanthropes' DR is shut down by silver weapons, I don't read them as having an extreme aversion to the material, like vampires with garlic. It seems like that would be too easy a 'tell' in a society with widespread silver coinage.
3. Additionally, since equipment melds between human/hybrid and animal forms, coins held (or swallowed) would simply meld into the animal form of the lycanthrope rather than doing the gory "Alien" thing akin to a dismissed shrink item.
4. Coins of whatever material, however, are choking hazards. I doubt I could swallow a dime, as I have trouble with cold medicine.
Please proceed with your masterful reveal, given these clarifications. :)

Gristav |

Oh, and Gris nor I was counting on a burning or similar effect, just that silver can harm the were, and would be rather larger (effectively) in the rat than in the man. That it will meld as equipment quoshes such reasoning, but eh, this life is learned a word at a time. :)

Gristav |

Missed the window to edit. Just as well, this is public.
'restrained violence': Would you want a to-hit roll or similar? Is it a Coup-de-grace? Gristav will non-lethal with the staff, he has specifically gained such a capacity somewhere in Jalmeray, apparently.
So, based on what he knows or has estimated of Mr. Silvercoin, somewhere between 1d6+4 and 2d6+8 nonlethal? Gris only means to leave him enough to talk, perhaps erring on the side of thinning mercy.
And in any case, Gris guesses Nigel will be forthcoming, in the absence of any witnesses to, uh, rat him out.

Gristav |

Erring toward gentleness: To-hit roll:
Staff+1+2STR+2BAB: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Staff+1+2STR(one hand)+1Perfection: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Braddon Hurst |

Just a heads up to all.
As everyone knows, Braddon is a murder hobo.
In case it wasn't clear, he's going to kill Nico in my next post, unless a player has a strong objection.
Your character can cry out, too late, and keep your alignment and good intentions.
But if you, as a player, do not want the story to go in this direction please let me know AND come up with an alternative direction that will hopefully fit the story well. Otherwise, I'm going to tie up this loose thread.
This includes Joana as well. She's a player. :-)

Braddon Hurst |

That was combat/self defence.
This is going to be cold blooded murder of a helpless individual. This kind of stuff destroys games, especially if there's a Paladin in the mix.
Tendal is a respectable businessman.
Gristav is good aligned.
Even Phillip may want more info from him.
I know this is Joana's game, filled with some of the best players I've had the privilege of gaming with. And I'm confident that we won't make this a character/party destroying moment where we, or our characters, can't work together in future.
But, before I take the game in that direction, I think it best to check with my fellow players, since it's their story as much as mine. I've seen too many people wreck games with "It's what my character would do." It is what Braddon would do, but I control his actions and I'm working with everyone here to tell a satisfying story. So, if this might detract from the game, please let me know. That's why I'm making such a big deal of it.
Anyways. Braddon will act in about 26 hours from this post.

Tendal Deverin |

The warning was warranted. Now that I know that it is coming I can ensure that Tendal reacts appropriately.
And yes, when we are playing a character heavy game, you gotta expect heavy characters.
More to the point, do you have some sort of arc, development, change, degradation, that you plan for Braddon? We may never get that far, but I am just wondering if there is a destination in mind.

Phillip Hargreaves |

Phil's got no issues whatsoever with Braddon's actions. We've got a secondary party to stand witness with the Croats if needed, and after all... Phil is a Calistrite. Without interests of his own to speak at cross purpose, he's all for Braddon following his truth.

Gristav |

Can I just say, I have great respect for there being a discussion at all. Bravo, all.
And for what it's worth, I wrote and discarded a post where Gristav KO's Nico, thinking in rather meta terms that it was perhaps more someone else's oeuvre, and let them use that paint if they were carrying it.
I will still post that staff strike, if it doesn't cheat any bloodlust.
"Why get blood all over your ropes?"

Braddon Hurst |

I'm okay with anyone else acting first.
That's why I broke up my posts.
The moment seemed apt but if circumstances change Braddon may do something different.
Even ask permission.
But I'll be posting him in about 2 hours. I've held up the game long enough as is.

Javell DeLeon |

Typically, I would be against it. Mainly due to the fact I play mostly good pc's.
But seeing how it's Snake, I just don't feel he would care.
Plus, Snake thinks Braddon's a bit mental anyway, so, it really wouldn't surprise him. ;)
And I gotta say thanks for going about it the way you did. I appreciate you considering us when it comes to something like this. Because you just never know how others might react to something like this out of the blue.
Kudos to you, bud.

Braddon Hurst |

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.
Braddon will not be ganking every innocent that comes along. From a player perspective, I wanted to avoid the whole "What do we do with the prisoner?" thing, especially if the usual tying up won't work on a shapeshifter. From a character perspective, the guy was scum.
I don't really have a development arc in mind for Braddon, unless someone wants to take him on. He was always meant to be the friendly thug and while I enjoy playing him up as the comic relief, he's never been good aligned. Everyone says CN is the easiest alignment to play. It is if you're a dick who wants to do crazy stuff, ruin the plot and annoy your fellow gamers. Making Braddon seem random is hard, but I want a good (as in solid) reason behind all his actions. After all, his wisdom is good (above average).
Basically, it's more a reminder that, as likeable as he can be, Braddon is not a nice person. We're not a nice party.

Joana |

Hey, Mark, on a completely unrelated note, I know you talked a while back about getting your boys a Nintendo Switch. Did you do that? How is it holding up?
My daughter is saving her money to buy one (and trying to get her brother to go in halves with her), but she's a little concerned because a friend of hers has one and one of the controllers already doesn't work right.

Mark Sweetman |

Our switch is still rocking with no problems and I can hands down recommend. We take it out and about to keep kids occupied at times and it works great hooked up to a tv as well.
Not sure whats up with her friends... but ours has survived the tender ministrations of a 6, 9 and 37 year old :P
Zelda, Mario Odessey, Rabbids and Mario Kart are all top shelf Nintendo gaming. Pokemon and Smash Bros is coming too! Can even get Skyrim on it
