As a note to all my games: MY family is on vacation starting the weekend before the 4th of July through the following weekend of July 9/10. I will have intermittent internet access but our schedule is a bit up in the air. I will try to post when I can but if I am quiet for some or all of this period please know I will be back. I don't intend on radio silence but stranger things have happened.)

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Thanks for the heads up! Happy holidays.

Mutated Animal Turtle Smasher 10

Have a fun vacay!

Mutated Animal Turtle Smasher 10

Hey folks, I am getting absolutely buried at work. If I hold things up feel free to bot me. It may not end for another few weeks, but I'll try to check in as often as I can.

You and your priorities.

Hey, Kirth, you there? This door isn't going to open itself, man.

I mean, this is a fantasy setting, so I suppose it could. But you still have to be involved in that, somehow.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Spaced out there somehow. Thanks!

Elebrin, Uro, Gwly-beans... what do you say we try and set up an ambush to capture a guy? Jym can hypnotize him so that he'll lead us to where Vanthus might be.

I'm getting the feeling that this dungeon is pretty large.

HP 18/18 | AC 12 {16} DR: 3/CI | CMB 2 CMD 14 |Perception +6/+8 {Bright/Not Bright Light}

I think that makes the most sense, it seems like we are known to be in the complex but have a modicum of surprise to work with.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Just a heads-up: starting tomorrow a.m. I'll be out in the desert and unable to log on, through the end of the month. Hopefully we can pick back up when I get back.

Have fun! Or maybe don't have a bad time, if fun isn't realistic!

Mutated Animal Turtle Smasher 10

Yeah, have fun man!

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Probably not much fun, but there's plenty of overtime to be had, so that's something.

HP 18/18 | AC 12 {16} DR: 3/CI | CMB 2 CMD 14 |Perception +6/+8 {Bright/Not Bright Light}

Big death in my family. I will be back by the end of the week. Apologies.

Hi folks, there has been a parting of the chaos just long enough for me to poke my head up and try to touch base with my various games. The probate and estate stuff for this branch of the family seems...challenging at best. Between my new promotion and what might be weeks if not months of familial wrangling I need to be honest about what I can accomplish and how often.

I am going to try to keep up with this game, we aren't as aggressive as other games in the posting and I want to try to keep it up if I can. I am cutting a bunch of my other games and have a hard weekend ahead of me but I want to try to make this one work.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Thank you! We like having you with us.

Jym nods at Uro.

I was really hoping that Uro would say something like, "Why are you nodding? What does that mean?" to which Jym would have replied, "I don't know! I was hoping you'd know!" before wandering off.

Anyway, that was a huge waste of time, unless we take Young Tom (I wish we'd found Old Tom) at his word and Vanthus isn't down here at all. Thoughts about that?

HP 59/59 AC 17 Per:10 Rage 0/12 AC: 20 DR: 4

I figure orcs hit things when you nod at them.

I guess we should just keep pushing forward. I realize that isn't ideal for our resources, but I don't know what else to do honestly. I didn't expect this place to be so big.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Uro, at your option, you can stick with the barbarian rules you're using, or switch to the simpler revised barbarian, which also has improved totems.

The main difference is that you don't have to keep track of two sets of stats.

If you decide to switch, you can do it now, or when we level up, or any time in between.

HP 59/59 AC 17 Per:10 Rage 0/12 AC: 20 DR: 4

Thanks, I'll check it out!

Current HP: 28/28 -- Perc: -1/+1 in cities -- Inspiration: 14/14 rnds -- Vanderboring Estate Map

Guys, I'm thinking after we win this fight, we should try and leave the dungeon and try a different tactic to find Vanthus. We've lost the element of surprise, I don't think we have the hit points to get to him, and my guess is that we're all bored down here.

The only downside to my suggestion is that I have no idea what sort of tactic we should try if we leave.

Thoughts?

HP 59/59 AC 17 Per:10 Rage 0/12 AC: 20 DR: 4

That sounds pretty reasonable. Gwl and Uro are getting some action, but Jym and Elebrin probably aren't going to have a lot of fun in a long combat slog.

Not really sure what our alternate tactic should be though.

HP 18/18 | AC 12 {16} DR: 3/CI | CMB 2 CMD 14 |Perception +6/+8 {Bright/Not Bright Light}

Yeah coming in when I did I am sort of "along for the ride" I can continue to roleply my Pollyanna elf for a while but absent context (in game) she will have little else to offer.

Out of character though is there anything or anyone down here we might take that would get his attention? Like if we take some of these guys prisoners would he care?

I don't think so. He's already shown that he doesn't care about his allies' lives. I think he's just in hiding, here. Of course, it's also possible he's a prisoner, but nothing we've seen indicates that.

HP 59/59 AC 17 Per:10 Rage 0/12 AC: 20 DR: 4

Agreed. Initially, I thought that we could use diplomacy with the Dragons and proof of his treachery to get them to give him up, but he seems pretty entrenched here.

I was thinking we could try to draw him out with a made up story about additional inheritance or some such, but I'm not so sure how long we can survive in the city with a pissed off thieves guild after us.

Sorry folks, snowpacalypse 2017 merged with my move this last weekend and really bad service resolution from Comcast. I'm actually back to a house, with Internet and not caring boxes in the rain. Posts to resume tomorrow.

So it looks like Barbarians get Vital Strike at 1st level now. Is that right? If so, Uro's attacks would do 2d8+2d6+6 damage. :-O

For funsies 2d8 + 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + (6, 6) + 6 = 21

Would love to, but I don't have the time to learn a new system, right now.

2d8+1d6+6; it increases to +2d6 at BAB +6.

If you've played 1e/2e, then you've played 5e. It's an intentional step backwards in terms of design, when they realized that nostalgia trumps innovation.

Ah, okay! Did the feat get updated at some point? I may be working off of an older version and didn't realize it.

Yeah, sorry about that! I keep updating stuff and then forgetting to post it, because I'm all like, "Oh, I'll just wait and release a new version in a couple months," forgetting that I have a 2-year-old at home and may never release another one again.

Can we shoot for, say, a week from today to be done leveling? I'm always available to assist with ideas/mechanics as needed.

HP 18/18 | AC 12 {16} DR: 3/CI | CMB 2 CMD 14 |Perception +6/+8 {Bright/Not Bright Light}

I'm going to advance another level in Daoine Sidhe I think...I want to wizard me up but the advancement calls to me...

Average HP: 4
2+3 skill points = +1 Athletics, +1 Stealth, +1 Perception, + 1 Know (TBD), + 1 Survival

Bonus sKills= +1 concentration/planar sense/spellcraft

DR becomes 2/CI
+1 BAB

Gain Spellstrike Feat
Gain Weapon Specialization [Light Blades] (Will need to switch it up to rapiers since this won't cover my arming sword (doh)

I think that is it. There are no bonus feats for level right?

Elebrin Thel wrote:

You should get to pick either light blades or heavy blades -- that's one of things I'd meant to update.

Otherwise your post is spot-on, since level 2 is a "dead level" for spellcasting theurgy.

Works for me. I kinda have to redo Uro since his class has changed a good deal. I just need a bit to sit down and actually dig into it.

Yeah, the revisions make it a little more work on the prep side, but at the table it's 10x easier to play.

Still working on it, but I'll make that deadline.

One of the things I like that you've done with the feats is that you've built almost all of the must-haves into the classes, or all of the feats that should be taken together to define a character as options within the classes or as standalone scaling feats. That leaves the remaining feats as actual options to take, which is great, but it's not always an obvious choice at each level up. Here's the ones I'm considering so far, but I haven't finished going through the metamagic feats, yet:

ARCANE DEFENSE (Enchantment or Illusion)
CHAOTIC MIND
SPELL FOCUS

MENTAL DISTRACTION

FEINT, DISENGAGING
INITIATIVE, IMPROVED

Improved Initiative is sort of my default choice, but I feel like I always take that, so I'm looking strongly at the others.

After feats, I need to pick a new 2nd level spell, which should be easier, but I imagine that I'll be torn between a spell that has more combat utility and a spell that fits Jym better. But I haven't even looked at the spell list, yet, so maybe the perfect spell is waiting for me.
