Same, I'm here. Crusty was missing from all games for weeks, returned to say he had RL stuff and burrito poisoning, and has since been disappeared for another couple (several?) weeks. He's never been gone this long before (at least since I've been PBPing with him), so I'm starting to fear RL got the better of him.

Ar'Zarrcal |

I'm still here. Shame about Quest for Arcadia as I really liked the direction that was going, but I understand the reason for the decision and it makes sense to focus on one, rather than split attention between three and potentially leave all of them to flounder.

Well, I was hoping I'd hear from Styv or Talavuc. Looks like we'll have to press on without them. I'm going to run them as NPCs for a little bit, until we reach a good break out point, after which if they still haven't chimed in I'm going to have to remove them.
You guys should see an update today.
And... Thanks for sticking with me.

Ordrud |

Deleted my reaction. Retcon within an hour, no worries.
cheers

@Ar'Z: Just Rasso. Ordrud can pull a hood up and as long as nobody sees him up close that's enough. Rasso is fish-bear-crab and stands out a little more. For that matter Teladon's crazy appearance and Marcellano's Mr.Freeze impersonation can all be hidden with the hoods in their cold weather outfits.
Oh god I've been smurfed.

Ordrud |

Hey Rob
It's great to be back. You give your campaign such an outstanding story and flavor. As we discuss what to do, could you help remind us what he need to do? Meaning can you point us to the relevant past posts as such to remind us/me? It would be tremendously appreciated.
cheers

Ar'Zarrcal |

I need to finally rememorize spells. Beyond that we need to find the pale tower and shut down the winter portal.
We could scout out the town and try to get information about the winter portal and the pale tower, but at the same time asking questions might prove to be suspicious. Halek is still out there somewhere on this side of the portal and I believe he is a more horrible creature than we initially believed (Something like that was revealed)
If we want to stay here longer I can probably begin work crafting magical arms and armor, though I am limited in what I can craft.

![]() |

Relevant points are, much as Ar'Z summarized:
1) Find the Pale Tower, source if the Andoran Winter Portal and discover how to close the portal.
2) Find the witch queen Baba Yaga and discover what happened to her and her magic hut.
There are two known threats in the region as well:
1) Nazhena Valisnova, a winter witch of Irrisen and daughter to Queen Elvanna. It was she who helped slaughter the first Andoran expedition and killed the black rider with her deadly curse. She is believed to be responsible for maintaining the winter portal.
2) Halak, a cursed druid with an undead form similar to that of a lich. He raised all the undead you've faced do far and was responsible for the overthrow of Falcon's Hollow. Halak is the Irriseni agent responsible for leading the conquest of Andoran.

Rasso |

Essentially we need to locate the Pale Tower and delve the dungeon. I'm just worried we're nowhere near powerful enough to take on Halak yet. But I guess we'll find out. Vuriel might know where the Pale Tower is. If not, someone in town must.

Ordrud |

So how much truth do we tell Vuriel? And who?
Do either one of the runelorders want to get on his good side? Or is that a bad idea?
Rasso and Talavuc are out. So too the obvious Andorans Styv and Gwynn.
That leaves Ordrud, Marc, and Teledon. Is the elf the best option?
Did I miss anyone?

Marcellano would just as much rather put a bullet between his pointy revolutionist-ears than work with him.
Barring that, we shouldn't tell him much - get what we need from him, stock up from the town, then leave.

![]() |

So it's been a week and (Rasso excluded because of snow fort) I haven't seen an in-character post from anyone. Is there anything more you need to go on for reactions? Any questions I can answer?
I'm starting to wonder if the interest from the group at large (what's left of it) has died out due to the long break.

Teladon Azuth |

I'll work up a post from my phone tomorrow. I was waiting for someone to chime in since Teladon is not the talking type, but I want us to regain some momentum.

![]() |

Super interested. Ordrud is not the conversationalist.
This.
Marcellano tends to piss people off when he talks. I think its a class feature.

Ordrud |

I look forward to Ordrud maturing into a leadership position and thus more conversational. Although we've accomplished much in this campaign so far, by my memory the actual game time can be measured in days.
cheers

Talavuc |

My apologies, but I've been without computer for some time. I've had to relocate due to financial problems. Additionally, I had a nice scare for a bit regarding my depression. It very nearly landed me in the hospital (I got as far as the ER). I'll take a look and try to catch up on things. I hope everything's going well for everyone else.
Also, congrats on top 4, Robert. Quite an achievement there.

So as you've likely noticed it's been over a week since I've said so much as a peep in here. The last week or so has been rather busy for me as I took on a new project at work, and that's going to be ongoing for at least the rest of the year. I haven't had any time to devote to keeping up with my PbPs, be it as a GM or player.
I think, right now, I'm going to have to take some time off from all of my PbPs to try and focus on my RL commitments. I know that's kind of craptastic, and I totally agree. I don't have a firm schedule of when I'll have more time available, either, which is even more craptastic.
So, until I'm able to say otherwise, I'm going to have to put Reign of Winter (along with my playing in the other PbPs I was in) on hiatus, which... is kind of the last thing I wanted to do. But at the moment it's really the only choice I have.
When I have time again, I'll circle back around and see where things are and if we can get this back off the ground again. I just... don't know when that will be :\

Ordrud |

Boo! But I completely understand. Take the time you need. This story is worth the wait.
Will you put the campaign on inactive until your return?
cheers

Fenyx Dagannauth |

I was hesitant to post this here, but this still remains the quickest way to reach most you in one post.
Some may recall my having mentioned many moons ago an intent to try and Frankenstein together a 2nd Edition AD&D hybrid. Predictably, I didn't cover much ground. I don't think D&D:N is going to be what it promised to be, which is a shame. Pathfinder remains fun, but less so with each passing day (I think it's simply too codified for my own tastes). So I'm going to green-light my initial idea to try and overhaul 2nd Edition's malformed chassis with some more modern themes.
I welcome insight from those with an understanding of AD&D 2nd Edition as well as those with an understanding of Pathfinder. New ideas are fine, but within a specific context. This is not a goal to design an entirely new game—the end result should still play like D&D, even if some pieces look different. That means Vancian spellcasters, Saving Throws, Str/Dex/Con/Int/Wis, alignments, and so on. I'm not looking to break any boundaries. Just trying to polish and update what's already there.
Here's the Google Sites link I've served up as a gathering point for ideas, development, and the like—complete with a horribly generic title: Dungeonfinder

Checking in for those of you in my Shattered Star Campaign! I may be looking to get that one back up and running in the near future, so if you're still available, please let me know over there!
@Fenyx: Sadly, i know nothing of AD&D 2nd Ed - I played a bit of Baldur's Gate II, but never really got into the system (Loved the game though)
I'll give it a look sometime though!
