Rise of the Runelords - GM Pablo (Inactive)

Game Master Stetrix

Something is afoot in Varisia. There have been a series of odd murders in a small town on the west coast called Sand Point and more recently the capital Magnimar, where even the lord-mayor was a target. A cult of serial murderers called the Skinsaw Men was uncovered and stopped. We have also received reports of more activity along the border.

I would like you to go see the lord-mayor of Magnimar. Assure him the Pathfinder society will do what we can to help him. Investigate these goings on and see if there is a common thread to all this unrest. We have a lot of interests in Varisia and would like to maintain the good graces of the government. I doubt the lord mayor will have you sitting around for long. It is a big place and inevitably something will need attention.

So how does that sound? A mission without a precise goal and with no guarantee of coin. Ha! Are you up for it?

Male Halfling Rogue L2

I shall skulk stealthily

Fernleaf skulks quietly ahead...
GM Stuff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19

Knowledge [arcana] check to identify the bones which rizes to an arch 20' overhead.

An enormous statue stands here in frozen vigil-a forty-foot-tall giant with black skin covered by fissures and cracks, like the bed of a dried river. He wears majestic armor, gilded and encrusted with gems, and grips a towering glaive in his armored fists. The giant's face is hidden by a ferocious full helm forged into the sneering grimace of a
fanged devil. Around the giant's neck hangs a medallion-a seven-pointed star.

The stairs continue south and a chamber opens to the west.

Cast detect magic and scan the area.

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

the medallion is magical. Spellcraft check. Appraise check on the armor as well.

Silver Crusade

I also have detect magic.
arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
spellcraft: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
appraise: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Silver Crusade

I just noticed that we're on a 10 foot scale - shouldn't everyone be taking up at most one square?

Time to levy out some buffs, as well.

Flame Arrow (80 minutes): 30 shots for Rolande, 20 shots for Shalelu.
Mage Armor (8 hours): Myself. That makes my AC 17, I think.
Ghost Wolf (8 hours): Myself. Anyone got less than 6 hit dice? The DC for the save if you do and you are within 30 feet is DC 21. I don't think it affects anyone in the party...

I notice the casting time on ghost wolf is 10 minutes?!?!?... I'll catch up.

The medallion-a seven-pointed star draped around Giant's's neck is a Sihedron medallion, like the one you were given (who has the mediallion you were given by the way?) This one however is massive and is sized for a Gargantuan creature and weighs 20 pounds

While worn, a Sihedron medallion grants its wearer a +1 resistance bonus on all saving throws.

Once per day, as a free action, it may be commanded to bestow the effects of false life on the wearer. Placed on the neck of a dead body, a star medallion preserves the body indefinitely via a gentle repose effect.

Sekkimm is not sure what the value of the amour it is masterwork (non-magical) and it is also sized for a Gargantuan creature which weighs in at 400 pounds. Probably very valuable looking at the gems and it appears ancient.

Some one else care to appraise?

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

That suit of armor is our payoff guys! If we can get that to Magnimar just think of the gold it will bring! The medallion might be worth even more, ya think?

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

For what it's worth! Pun intended!

Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Well, it's old so it's probably worth a bunch! How much? I have no idea!

Silver Crusade

Is the amulet operating on the statue?

Dark Archive

The giant seems like it was alive once, but now very dead, perhaps many centuries.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Silver Crusade

I guess what I'm asking is, did the amulet serve its function? Is the gargantuanite still resurrectable?

Dark Archive

Perhaps he is.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Silver Crusade

Interesting.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

I don't like the idea of fighting a gargantuan zombie. Should I hit it with some positive energy?

Silver Crusade

I don't think it is undead, just capable of resurrection. Fascinating! Who knows how long it has been dead, yet now someone could bring it back?

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

I just hope it doesn't go on a rampage if it is brought back! You've taken an unhealthy liking for undead recently, Sekkim. I hope it is a short lived fascination. I have a real issue with necromancy.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

Though I guess that if it were resurrected it might be most helpful for unravelling the mystery of the ancients!

Dark Archive

This is not a normal Giant as far as you can tell. It is a Gargantuan humanoid. The Pathfinder society would like to see this documented in the chronicles.

Uh, what do you think,Sekkim? Do you know anything about this ancient race?

Silver Crusade

history: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Silver Crusade

Cela, you should reincarnate him for laughs.

The Runelord of Greed, Karzoug (pronounced kahr-ZOOG), was the ruler of the Thassilonian realm of Shalast during the Age Before Ages. Rune giant Gargadros, was a general in Rune Lord Karzoug's army. Sekkimm suspects this is the famed General Gargadros.

Fernleaf Appraise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

The Gargantuan masterwork half-plate armor, which weighs in at 400 pounds is worth 4,950 gp

Actions?

Let's keep moving and clear this nest of Ogres out, then we can take home the loot. Send Fernleaf ahead inviso and see what is coming up. Same party order, Jaagrath and Anaba up front.

I am prepared to sip invisibility if needed

Fernleaf moves through the massive cave (10' squares on the map).
D$: A deep pit hewn from hard stone here descends into soot and darkness. The stale reek of decay wafts up from the depths below. He sees no one in here so moves on...

His little Hobbit feet pad silently down the stairs to D5:
A pair of Kreeg ogres and a hill giant guard the entryway here. There are three more exits unexplored.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

One of the Ogres sees something and moves to the stairs to investigate, but Fernleaf sips his invisibility potion and stands still (+40 stealth). The ogre looks about for a few rounds
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

He then returns to patrolling the cave. Close Call! Return upstairs or go deeper? (2/10 sips used)

Dark Archive

Male Halfling Rogue L2

I will go let the party know what is up , about the guards. I think they should come with me to D5, then I'll scout ahead some more.

Fernleaf comes upstairs and fills the party in.

1.5 minutes off buffs
Sekkimm is 1 min into his 10 min conjuration.

Actions?

We should move forward, leave Lumpy to guard Sekkim. See if we can pull another surprise on the guards and hit them hard and fast while our buffs are up. Any objections?

Want me to start this party?

It will be difficult to have the heavy armored folks be quiet going down the stairs.

We are pulling the Jaagrath maneuver again, Fernleaf moves ahead and gets into position, we loosely use some rope and look like his prisoners. When we get into range hopefully their guard will drop and we hit them hard. Sound like a plan everyone?

Scarab Sages

Male Human Magus L8/Brawler L1/Bloodrager L1

Making sure of my buffs since we're in about 1.5 min. since we buffed last. Go ahead and cast Enlarge again from my wand (2 min.). Bull's Strength still has 1.5 min., and Alter Self 5.5 minutes. Will cast Shield, then Frostbite before we go into the chamber.

Cela casts Stoneskin on Fahari and Anaba duration 70 min 70 points
The warded creature gains resistance to blows, cuts, stabs, and slashes. The subject gains DR 10/adamantine. It ignores the first 10 points of damage each time it takes damage from a weapon, though an adamantine weapon bypasses the reduction. Once the spell has prevented a total of 10 points of damage per caster level (maximum 150 points), it is discharged.

Also refresh Bless with her wand (1 min)

You descend the stairs.
Buchart try a bluff check please
Fernleaf is in position behind am Ogre

Scarab Sages

Note that I'm using Alter Self, which should give some sort of bonus in this sort of roll. Speaking common to the "prisoners ".

Bluff: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1

Note to party, next time put someone that has a bluff chance up front in disguise!

Jaagraths visage should help, but if he is confused that could help also on initiative. Oh btw, I don't see Lumpy's icon.

Lumpy is up the stairs Lumpy would probably give the whole thing away.

Buchart, Anaba and Rolande move down the stairs and they Ogres and Giant move over to see the Kreeg Captian rumored to be dead.

When they get close (10') they manage to see through the disguise (just as you are about to attack - their bonus is +5)

No surprise, but initiative!!

Anaba Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
