As you take a moment to rest your iron box lights up. It is 10 by 10 in shape and all your hacking has barely scratched the iron. You also realize that you are not flying, clearly the lack of spatial recognition was odd to your senses.

A voice appears in your solid iron box, "Are you done? There is a pause, "You don't listen, you are fool." It's a clear statement. Then there's another pause. "I am the Lord of Iron...do you know what that means?"

When he finishes the iron cools to touch and you no longer take damage.

I have Protection from Fire 30, so If I was taking 3d6 per Round for 10rds the spell would have negated all of that damage. Unless the trap bypasses it. OR if his sense of time is so off that his buffs have all expired then he is at 45hp and BADLY wounded.

Duncan pauses at the statement. He observed the lack of damage to the walls despite his POWERFULLY enchanted weapon and brimming spells. Including the fact the he could not feel his goddess at all meant at the very least his captor was immensely powerful. Giving credence to the voices claim.

He points his sword hilt down and takes a respectful knee.
It means you are Gorum.God of battle above all other pursuits. Known as Our Lord in Iron, yer faithful believe ye be present in every iron weapon of war that is forged. Duncan your sense of time is totally off and your buffs have expired.

The walls disappear-yet you sense that there are walls of force between you and the speaker. To your great surprise you are standing in an etched circle a surrounded by numerous eternal enemies:

2 pit fiends
4 Bone Devils
6 Gaav Devils
10 lemures Devils
2 Contract Devil (Phistophilus)

Then there is an Erinye that is essentially draped at her Master's feet.

The four mercenaries from the tavern are positioned flanking the host.

There is no mistake as to who controls this crowd. There is a 13 foot tall diabolic figure draped in a kingly robe and crowned with iron horns sitting on an iron throne. He bears a long, heavy mace of black metal. In a cool yet caustic manner "Gorum is piss and isn't fit to carry my jockstrap. I should smash your dense skull for that insult. Duncan you are speaking to Dispater and you are in his fortress.

He doesn't respond to his ranking or the reference to his son, a result of a tryst he had with demigoddess, Feronia.

"Your in The Iron Tower and I'm mulling over just sending you to Mentiri and have my Harvester's peel your flesh and toy with your soul." There is a long pause. "But you DO have some limited worth to humanity. In fact, you and your comrades possess something that I want. Am I speaking clearly enough or does your thick dwarven skull not comprehend? Do I need to crack it open so the message sinks in properly?" His steely gaze sends a chill down your spine. "YOU have something that I can use to tip the scale of conflict between my troops and the scum of the abyss. Because of that I can be reasoned with and give you back something you desire...the fruit of your wasted seed."

There's not a peep from the others in the iron room.

Duncan was not altogether surprised that there was an offer. Devils loved deals and contracts and what's more, they honored them. Always. The tricky part was the interpretation of the contract and the consequences of not holding up your own end. Devils HATED demons and had been at war with the Abyss for Millennia uncounted.
Was there ANY way Duncan could even survive this encounter And not fall in the eyes of his own goddess.
He tried to recall any stories in which Iomedae had worked with Devils in her own time.
Religion for association of Imoedae's church and devils: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Pathfinder Wiki:
With the exception of Asmodeus, Iomedae never associates or parleys with evil gods or fiends. She treats the Lord of Hell with extreme caution, and never in more than an advisory role. The Hellknight Order of the Godclaw worships an aspect of Iomedae, although they are not part of the church.

Better the devil you know perhaps

Duncan responded, I'm listening. But as a disciple of the Inheritor, while I acknowledged me own goddess as consulted with Asmodeus in the past on matters, I must tread carefully. I've died Fer me faith already, Dispater and ultimately will do so again. Name what ye want and yer terms, but I'll not trade one evil for another on the material plane. If this pact be to yer advantage, it can only serve to benefit ye in yer battles against the demons in the lower planes. I can't trade Fentonville or it's people. And if it's the death of Orcus's minions yer after, well, me an me allies been doing a nice job O that. But know this Master of the tower: Me son is lost. He is dead or undead. He Cannae be saved. Iomedae's herald told me this in communion. I seek to destroy his earthly remains to atone Fer me failure as a father. Nothing more.

He did his best to keep his voice even, as through he were not trying to be defiant, merely stating facts as they were. He knew he was likely to die and have his soul trapped here if the Devil king wished it so.

Dispater responds partly to Duncan concerns, "Yes your wasted seed is undead but his soul can be retrieved and perhaps, there is something worth saving there. You seem too eager to destroy which is why you're not full grasping what I can present to you." He chuckles, "Are you sure you are worshipping correctly...all you want to do is hack, slash, and kill under some cloak of divinity so you can feel purpose." There it was. The deal stated plainly and openly. An Axe for Grimm's soul and assistance against Orcus.
Actually pretty simple though Devils deals often appeared that way.

Thank ye....So Grimm HAD died and for some reason Dispater had his soul. Which meant one of the devil's minions must have been the one to have killed him directly otherwise it should have gone the usual route to either Gorum or whatever power his son worshipped.

This doesn't make sense....Forgive me ignorance. I'll start by saying first that Yes, I can git the Axe Fer ya. But How'd ye come ta be in possession of his Soul...Grimm was a worshipper O Gorum and even if he'd switched ta Orcus his soul SHOULD have departed ta whichever power he was loyal too. Unless his Physical Form was killed directly by a devil or he lost a bargain with one.....I told ye true Dispater. I won't trade one evil Fer another one that meterial plane.

He states his own version, altering the Devil's statement ever so slightly to try an get the terms he needed for Fentonville's safety and that of his friends.
Here's me counter offer. I hereby agree ta deliver aforementioned weapon ta one of yer agents, via physical or magical means, should said weapon be in my groups possession. Ye agree not only to exchange Grimm's soul ta me, buy return him to life Via a Ressurection, which if ye truly have his soul is within yer power. With the boy to be placed in the Fentonville jail to be Lawfully judged by the town's Magistrate Fer 'is crimes. Upon yer delivery of me son, ye make no further claims upon Grimm's body or soul and he is free of any current obligation ta ye. And ye make no further claims upon him, so that he is free ta persue whatever redemptive path 'e chooses.

He paused to consider his words, knowing full well the Devil and his minions were taking great heed of every detail, looking for a loophole they might exploit.

With Regard to the Axe. You agree that said weapon cannot be used in any action, military or otherwise that impacts on the material plane to increase devilish power or number or devils accessing the material plane. You or your agents make use of it in whatever manner you wish as it relates to the Weakening or Destruction of Demons on any plane, including the material.

Duncan prayed he was forming his words correctly. Devils had been at war with Demons for millennia and so being Free to use the weapon to destroy Demons in whatever manner he wanted, the Dwarf hoped was all Dispater was after here. The terms as he'd outlined them would allow the Devil the freedom to do just that but hopefully prevent the Devil king using this weapon to conduct further evil on the Material. If Dispater was being honest that being able to use the weapon against Orcus was all He wanted. He wasn't stupid enough to think Dispater would ever agree to something like Leave the Material plane and never return and would likely only get the dwarf tortured painfully.

Finally, Ye agree ta return me and all me possessions, unharmed and unmolested back to the Prime Material in Fentonville, so that I may get the Axe Fer ye. Once delivered ye agree to return ONE item of approximately equal power to the Axe, a weapon NOT Devil forged, but taken from a previously defeated Goodly aligned enemy and given to Karnog Kegmeister, for the purpose of Defeating Orcus's minions and Aragnak. Upon completion of said task, Karnog is free to donate said item to the church of Torag for the express purpose of furthing the cause of LAW or destroying Demons. I, myself make no further request of Ye or yer agents and Ye make no claims upon me body or soul at the completion of our transaction

He dropped the formal speak now, for it was giving him a headache.
There it is Dispater, as clear and solid as I can make it. We give ye the weapon ye want so ya can Wreck whatever Havok ye want against Orcus on the lower planes. In exchange for an Item Fer us ta further wreck Havok on Orcus on the Material and Fer Grimm's soul. After that our business is concluded....Is that acceptable?

He prayed internally though he knew Iomedae wouldn't hear him that he'd made sufficient offer to the devil without giving him the ability to increase his influence on the Prime. The Asmodean (and by extension most Devils) and Imoedean church's shared a common goal in destroying Demons and had agreed in very limited fashion in the past to certain actions. The Worldwound was an example of that, where some Asmodean Clergy could be found fighting alongside the Warriors of light holding back the hordes of demons coming from the lower planes there. But contracts and the machinations of Immortal beings were not his strong suit and he might be offering terms that not only could cost him his soul, but allow an Evil being to exert influence on his home plane. Even if the Devil agreed to the deal, if his words left too much wiggle room for Dispater or if Duncan directly benefitted, Imoedae herself could turn from him, resulting in his fall from Grace anyway.

"Interesting observation." His rust colored nails continue to drum on the throne arms. "Your wasted seed did fall from Gorum, he was corrupted by Orcus and he slaughtered many dwarves in search for greater power and greed. Your splotch was eventually betrayed by one of Orcus' Abyssal Harvesters, who came to claim his soul. He was killed and raised as a powerful undead, but luck should have it the Abyssal Harvester was little match for my talent." He spreads his arms and acknowledges the four mercenaries you met up with at the Slywink Tavern. "They were able secure your seed's soul before it was taken to Orcus." 2. The replacement of the dwarven waraxe with another goodly weapon.

Duncan hears the Devils counterpoints and ceeds each one.
The Devil was trying to make a point that Duncan was asking for more than the Axe was worth.

Duncan disagreed but had to find a way to bring this to a close, as he felt very strongly the disappearance of the Lemure was putting him on a timeline.

Me return should,na be weighed in as a pricey part of the negotiation, merely a given, as Ye brought me here unwillingly and with deception. Not the hallmarks of a lawful negotiation. As with any parely, if ye'd simply asked then I woulda came. As it were yer agents chose to disguise themselves and when their natures were revealed ta me sight I fell inta yer spell trap.

He paused before continuing, Second, the Resurrection falls within me groups power to enact ourselves and so I withdraw that request, lessening the inconvenience and cost ta yeself.

The was taking moments to sought his thoughts. Measuring each response and hoping his next words would not be his last

Leaving ye wanting a Powerful weapon and offering no guarantee it won't be used on the material plane, when we could at a later time plane shift to a goodly plane ta see it properly destroyed. Vs yer immortal minions ability to wreck havok and spread yer machinations and influence wherever ye wish besides Fentonville and without making an equal offer of returning a Goodly weapon back to the Material to potentially balance the scales. An unequal bargain.

This last part was going to be the hardest part, for while the words he was about to speak were 100% true, he was still a father.
Grimm is me Son, First King......but he has been a full grown dwarf for more than 50 years. More than capable of choosing his own path and might be that I dannae agree with his decisions, he was not mislead or deceived when he chose ta follow Gorum. He made a choice ta live his life in accordance to his heart and the path he has taken has wrought it's own consequences and the price of his actions, has apparently been paid.

A hint of a tear was barely being held at bay at his next words. I asked Iomedae's servant if there was any redemption fer Grimm, and was told nae. I've known it in me heart for some time and before the dragon attacked was on a path to put down what remained of his undead body. Not fer revenge, but ta prevent the last evil vestiges of his influence from wrecking any more pain upon the world. Maybe the fact ye intercepted his soul IS an appropriate end.

The dwarf had placed his sword back in it's scabbard. He stood before the Devil King, as ant Ant stands before a boot. Dispater's adherence to Lawfulness was likely the only thing still keeping the dwarf breathing at this point.

An so I make ye one last counter offer First King. I won't bargain fer Grimm's soul. I won't ask fer trade of the Weapon for another. I'll keep it simple. I'll fetch the the Axe with yer agreement the Weapon WILL NOT be used on the material plane. In exchange ye return me and tell me and my allies the True Location of the dragon's Lair, then ye have yer Lemure Let the dragon know where are taking it's treasure in it's home. That's it. You get yer weapon and jam it up Orcus rear if it pleases ye. Me and mine will teleport to the dragon's home and make it fight us in it's cave away from Fentonville and other innocents and IF we survive, we'll finish of Orcus's followers in Rappan Athuk. Seems ta me yer getting mor'n yer share in this new deal. If it don't please ye, then our negotiation is done and this parley is over. Return me ta Fentonville from where yer minions stole me. Knowing that if ye kill me or if Me party falls yer efforts'll be fer nought for as our bodies are looted the axe falls back in Orcus's grasp and the Forces of the abyss continue ta gain strength till maybe they become powerful enough to challenge yer interests there. Fore much as Neither one o us likes it, we Share Orcus defeat as a common goal. This is all I can agree to, for what can we do other than be exactly what we are and accept the consequences of our decisions.

The dwarf waited. The devil was going to kill him he knew. But he had acted in line with the tenants of his faith. He hoped somehow in the intervening Millenia of torture he would know do't endure (for how could even Imoemdae pluck him from the Iron tower) he had the faith to hold onto what he was.....

Evil GM

The drumming get louder. "Interesting." He thinks about the new offer, "You will give my agents the axe and the weapon will not be used on the material plane." He thinks about it then continues, "You get the Aragnak's lair's location and the dragon is told that you are looting it's home."

He nods once, "My agents will travel with you and once they have posession of the Axe, the lair will be disclosed and Aragnak will be told. Is that agreeable?" The devil states matter-of-factly.

And yer agents are ta return ta ye with the Axe and not interfere in the battle against the Dragon. Yes, we have an accord.

Evil GM

"Agreed." Dispater nods once.

One of the contract devils appears next to you Duncan with the agreement written in an ornate script. "Just a drop of your blood is required."

Evil GM

Desmond, Nym, Karnog, and Kalim the charred ruins smell of sulfur and ash. stumbling towards you is a spindly, hunched old lady whose skin is a sickly gray color, as is her stringy hair, which is peppered with globs of what appear to be ashes. Somehow she managed to survive the inferno that strafed the area.

I assume you all were on the ground or hovering a few feet above the ground when you were speaking to Nym and discussing your options.

Desmond immediately thinks more trickery is afoot, staring at her to disbelieve any illusions.

Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29 +8 vs traps

Everyone is so jumpy. I must have everyone in a constant state of tension.

Kalim nearly disintegrated a beggar.

Duncan will take the time to read the agreement, making sure it reflected EXACTLY what was said.

He looks quizzically at the contract demon.
Don't need ta be long and complex. Just says exactly what We agreed to and the end of the conversation.
He'll also cast READ MAGIC to see if there are any spells woven into the contract.

As long as it is easy enough to understand and doesn't appear to have any additional clauses, Duncan will prick a finger and mark the contract.

Karnog looks at the old appearing woman and let's out a sigh.

"Ma'am, please keep your distance. We have endured several attacks on our group this far today, and I find our patience is nearing its end. Do you require assistance, or healing? From here, it looks like you made it through the dragons attack unscathed."

Hovering just over the charred ground, Karnog remains vigilant against further trickery.

My Baldwin sense says THE OLD LADY IS THE DRAGON

Evil GM

I'm busy this morning but will try to get a post up this late afternoon.

Evil GM

RA Initiative:

Desmond: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Nym: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
kalim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Karnog: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Interesting Surprise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Desmond
Karnog
Nym
Interesting Surprise
Kalim

The old lady does not stop when warned. "I...I...need help." She points back towards some rubble. She is 60 ft from Kalim right now. I have to put together a map I'll get to it eventually.

Kalim:
When she gets within 60 ft she does radiate a magical aura.

Straffing Ruins

*Ok use some imagination and picture the area charred and ashen.
**Nym is on the ground and the lady is heading towards him. Karnog, Kalim, and Granny Killer have symbols over them to indicate they are flying.

This is classic.

Desmond, flying and invisible, absolutely charges with the full intent of slaughtering this old lady.

Attack (charge, heroes' feast, invis): 1d20 + 23 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 23 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 30 VS flat-footed
Damage: 1d6 + 10 + 8d6 ⇒ (6) + 10 + (2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 6, 6, 1) = 37

Once he attacks, invisibility will drop. If the attack lands, his AC will go up by 8, she will take 2 strength damage, and will have -2 AC and to hit (-8 against Desmond).

Karnog draws his hammer and casts divine favor, remaining in the air.

"This was a bad choice, woman. If you needed help, you should have remained still and followed instructions."

Evil GM

Desmond moves to hit the old lady ...slicing and dicing, but his misses. Meanwhile, Karnog casts his diving favor.

"I asked for help...a..an...and you attacked?" Her voice of concern echoes loudly. "This is how you act?"

Anybody with an AC above 30 pretending to be an old helpless lady definitely deserves death, onwards!
