Pathfinder Module: We Be Goblins!

Game Master Critical Fumbles

You are goblins of the Licktoad tribe, deep in the Brinestump Marsh. When you discovered one of your own could write — stealing the words from your heads, cursing the tribe with bad luck! — you did what any good goblin woud do: you branded his face with his precious letters, ran him out of town, and took all of his stuff. But that's where things got interesting, because just before you were going to burn down the hut, Chief Gutwad found a weird box within the building. Inside was a map and a lot of fireworks — fireworks that you immediately used to burn the hut down. The next morning, Gutwad declared a feast tonight to drive away any lingering bad luck from Scribbleface’s poor decisions.

But perhaps even more exciting, all of you have been secretly invited to meet at Chief Gutwad’s Moot House. Why would the chief want to speak to you? It can only mean that he’s got an important mission… one that the other goblins of the tribe couldn’t pull off. This could be your chance to go down in Licktoad history!

Hello! I am recruiting four players for Pathfinder Module: We Be Goblins!. Though I’ve both GMed and played Pathfinder for about two years, this is my first time GMing a play-by-post game. I intend to run a full Adventure Path on these forums at some point in the future, so towards that end I want to get some experience with play-by-post and find people I can invite to future games.

Quote:
Players who wish to receive Pathfinder Society credit for playing through We Be Goblins! must use one of the pregenerated goblin PCs provided in the adventure.

If enough people want to play this module with pregenerated characters for Pathfinder Society credit, I will hand out chronicle sheets once the game ends.

General Expectations
I'm going to hold you to the same standards that I hold myself to: I expect you to post as often as is needed, adjusting to the pace of the group, as need be. I plan to post at least once per day. When you do post, I expect you to push the game forward. If our pacing changes to the point of negatively impacting your ability to keep up, I hope and expect that you will talk to me earlier rather than later. I promise to do the same if our positions are reversed. (Thanks, Painlord!)

When necessary, we will be using ditzie.com for a battle map.

Character Creation
You can choose to play a pregenerated character (available here) or create your own 1st-level character according to the following guidelines.

Race: Goblin.

Ability Scores: Use the Standard Fantasy (15 points) purchase system or the elite array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8).

Sources: Any Paizo.

Special: Describe your character’s appearance and personality, then write a goblin song for your character. Prove that you are the gobliniest of them all.

Deadline
I will close recruitment on Monday, 21st of March, 2016.

Dark Archive

If this is for PFS, then you don't create your own goblins. You are to use the 4 pre-gen goblins.

It's actually better if you use the pre-gens since they way they are created helps with the flow of the adventure.

Thanks for letting me know; I've edited my original post accordingly. I'll leave it as an option for the players: we can play the module for PFS credit if everyone interested wants to play pregenerated characters, or we can play it for fun if people want to create their own goblin characters.

I've always wanted to play this module! I'm so stoked someone is running it on the boards again. Looking over the pregens is already getting me in the mood to be the gobliniest goblin on the block. I've never played a PFS game before, so I'd much rather just play for fun.

Trying to decide between Witch or Wizard, but regardless I shall be Chungus. With the ears of a bat and a splintery wooden eye Chungus is a child's nightmare fuel. His leathery gray skin is dotted with large zit-like goosebumps, a number of which surround his dripping mouth full of snaggleteeth. A recluse by nature Chungus is perfectly content hiding away in his hollow tree, trading jokes with his tiny crawly friends and making offerings of blood and small rodents to the big gobbo in the sky.

If Pregens win out I would like Poog because he seems fun. Although I have never taken part in PFS though always been curious how it works.

But if we are going our own route I have multiple ideas.

Grand Lodge

I'd be interested in playing as one of the pregenerated characters, probably Chuffy.

Hoping if I'm selected this PbP will survive longer than my previous PbP experiences, which have all seemed to end prematurely.

From what I have heard, We Be Goblins is not very long so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm interested. I vote for non-PFS, make-your-own-mayhem-maker goblin PC. I'm working on an unchained rogue.

EDIT: Roll for starting gold, average, or maximum?

Will you be using the Background Skills system?

DOUBLE EDIT: How about traits?

Thanks for everyone's interest so far.

@rhino43grr: We Be Goblins! is a module in name, but it's closer to a PFS scenario in length. When I played it, we breezed through it in 4 hours (of fun!).

Background Skills: No. You won't be needing background skills where you're going; you're about to embark on a quest for Chief Gutwad, and he has no patience for silly longshanks concepts like 'downtime.' I'm looking for players who can help everyone create goblin mayhem and mischief, so I'm more interested in your character's personality than its background.

Starting Wealth: Average wealth. You can take sentimental items at no cost.

Traits: One. I recommend choosing a goblin race trait from Pathfinder Player Companion: Goblins of Golarion.

APPEARANCE

Height 3’0”
Weight 33 lbs.
Eye Color Cinnamon

Region of Origin The Shackles (but now a Licktoad toadie)

Appearance
The Cap’n looks like your typical green, idiotic goblin with a couple of notable exceptions: he wears a dog’s pelt over his mouth as a fake beard and also wears a black eyepatch, usually over one of his perfectly functional eyes but occasionally in the center of his forehead or over his nose or mouth. He also wears a battered leather tricorne hat that once belonged to the true captain of the ill-fated vessel our goblin rogue crewed on, claimed after the inevitable shipwreck off Varisia when the previous captain was devoured by a shark.
Personality
In a word, Cap’n Dogbeard is…piratey! He enjoys scampering about yelling strange words like “Avast!” and “Ahoy!” while stabbing things with his rapier. He giggles every time he says “booty” or “poop deck.” He’s not as afraid of words and letters as most goblins are (and is smart enough to keep his mouth shut after seeing what became of Scribbleface). In fact, he has a favorite letter” R…which inevitably causes him to shout “Arrr!” and run around stabbing things for a while until the fit of pirateyness wears off. He is currently trying to perfect a wonderful new concept: the land pirate. Thus far things seem promising: drownings are down somewhat and there’s yet to be a shipwreck amongst the Licktoads.

Goblin Song
Goblin pirates loot and goblin pirates plunder!
Goblin pirates poot and goblin pirates blunder!
Sail ‘cross the sea and swing from the ropes!
If you ask me, all lubbers be dopes!

I'm currently in another all-goblin campaign, but I'd still like to have a go at this! My vote is for custom, non-PFS goblins.

Good to know. My previous PbP experiences have all had GMs abruptly bow out after one or two combat encounters.

If we're doing custom goblins, I'll work on making a fighter or barbarian.

I'm very, very interested. Don't have the best grasp of the system, but I know the basics, and DM'd a short game.
I'll work on a sorcerer.

Its funny your profile pic is one of the goblins from the module.

What can I say? I like frogs, and I like goblins. This is both.

Anyway, here is my character. Drubbus Dogcooker. I've played him in some home games before, and he is fun. Usually has heavy armor though, but can't be helped in pathfinder.

APPEARANCE
Height 2’11”
Weight 29 lbs.
Eye Color Red
Hair Color Red

Region of Origin Brinestump Marsh

Deity Zarongel

Appearance
Drubbus is short, even for a goblin. Other goblins who see him usually think, ‘wow, that gobbo red.’ And he is. Either because he happens to be on fire at the time, or simply because of his bright red hair and eyes, he is very, very red.

Personality
Drubbus is very, shall we put it, explosive. He is always scampering around, lighting whatever catches his eye on fire, sometimes along with his eye. He sometimes tries his luck at hunting, but almost always fails, either because his claws get in his way, or because that’s what happens when you try to hit a deer with a fire blast while on toad venom.

Goblin Song
“Drubbus bestets goblin around!
He pounds all doggies into the ground!
He cooks all creatures on his flame!
And puts smelly dragons to shame!

All other gobbos can’t compete!
Cause’ Drubbus claws is really neat!
Drubbus besets goblin around!
He bury longshanks in the ground!”

So...it seems most folks are voting against PFS. I've given it some thought and I'll be building Chungus as an Int heavy Wizard, perhaps an evocation specialist. He'll also be taking the Big Ears trait, and his song is as follows.

"Chungus plot and Chungus scheme,
To make the tiny children scream,
When they're snuggled in their beds then Chungus eats up all their dreams!"

I'm taking a bit of inspiration from Labyrinth and giving Chung a preoccupation with baby snatching.

I'm interested in playing for PFS credit, and I call Reta Bigbad! (I own all three of the Goblin adventures, never played them though and if it's okay with you, I promise I can separate player from character)

If we end up making our own (as it seems most are), hmmm... how does a goblin gunslinger (mysterious stranger) sound?

"Sara's boomstick, so loud it shoots.
Boomstick says I get all the loots!
If with me you don't agree... " *fires a shot drowning out the last part of her rhyme*

*ducks the tomatoes that are probably being thrown*

(Her name isn't really Sara, that's just a human name she heard and liked. As a Mysterious Stranger she can't tell you her real name (but you probably know, it's Rotluga. Use it and she'll shoot you.) She's also the prettiest goblin (don't mention her oversized ears, or she'll shoot you. Also don't draw attention to her Ugly Swine trait or she'll shoot you. Twice.), and if you don't agree.. she'll shoot you.
Just to be clear, she won't actually be shooting PCs if they dont' give her all the loot, it's just threats... at worst she'll shoot but miss (on player purpose) or maybe forget to load the bullet.)

15 point buy:
Strength 8
Dexterity 16
Constitution 10
Intelligence 10
Wisdom 10
Charisma 15

I would like to offer Offenclopf.
His own gentle dity is in the profile.
I'm looking forward to playing a crazy pyro!

O

This Ghir.
Ghir like bite.
Ghir like bite lots of things.
Ghir not like Scribbleface. Writing bad. Writing kill Ghir Mommy and Daddy.
Want know why Gutwad want Ghir in Moot House.

Moot is funny word. MOOOOOOOT. MOOTMOOTMOOT.

This Ghir.

Behold Mags, the coolest goblin ever, with absolutely no hero complexes to speak of!

I'd have liked her to be a Vigilante, but that isn't publicly available yet, so Swashbuckler it is.

Drubbus Dogcooker, son (he thinks) of Zarongel. Bat**** insane, and a pyro. Really looking forward to getting him back on the table.

@rhino43grr, AbsolutGrndZer0: It looks like we will definitely be playing We Be Goblins! with custom characters. And, AbsolutGrndZer0, it's a-ok.

Thanks to everyone for their applications! I've had a good laugh at the antics our potential goblin heroes have gone through so far, and I'm excited to see what will happen once the game begins. I've taken the liberty of compiling the current applications into a list for your convenience. Please let me know if I've made a mistake or an omission.

I'm away this weekend because of a convention, but I'll definitely be back by Monday to review applications. The game will tentatively start on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016.

Completed Applications
Cap'n Dogbeard (Profession Smith 6 ranks), goblin unchained rogue 1
Drubbus Dogcooker (Belac93), goblin sorcerer 1
Ghir Omnomnom (FerrousBueller), goblin barbarian (feral smasher) 1
Mags the Amazing (Shub-Niggurath's Cousin Al), goblin swashbuckler (inspired blade) 1
Offenclopf (Louxman), goblin pyrokineticist 1

Applications in Progress
Chungus (GypsyMischief), goblin wizard 1
Mysterious Sara (AbsolutGrndZer0), goblin gunslinger (mysterious stranger) 1

Feral GNASHER.

Ghir smash only sometimes. Ghir gnash and bite ALL TIMES.

Can understand how Fumbles confuse.

Sara will resume you soon.

GM:
Don't have time to input all her data to her profile tonight, but her stats are above, she has the Oversized Ears alternate racial trait, her traits are Ugly Swine (Race) and Killer (Combat). Skills with ranks are Alchemy, Intimidate, Engineering, and Sleight of Hand. First level feat is Secret Stash Deed. :P

"Good lucks to everyone! Especially me, but you guys is good gobbos too!"

Please remember that PCs should be built with one trait, not two. (Source)

Thanks for your patience, everyone! Since we have six complete applications (everyone except Chungus) and this isn't for PFS credit, I don't see why all of us can't play the game! I'll be adjusting combat to accommodate for a larger party, but I think everything will work out! (If someone needs to bow out, the game can go on.) I'll create the gameplay thread tonight.

Ah, okay! I'll drop Killer (Combat) then.
