The devil seems chatty and at least has a better temperament than this lady. Might as well engage it.Glancing over at the devil, they then ask “So what sort of devil are you? I haven’t studied creatures from other planes at all, I fear.”
She moves her eyes onto the Vine Leshy, offering a composure both inviting, knowing, and yet a cool demeanor of a deadly viper.
"Ever heard of an Erinyes, Captain Clorophyll? We are hell's vengeance itself." Her face drops the composure for a brief moment. "At least, I would be, if I weren't bound to these damned relics and the Irrica's. Serving their personal war was beyond irritating."Executioners, not judges, erinyes alight upon the bladed eaves of Dis, Hell’s cosmopolitan second layer, ever attentive for chances to soar into battle, whether in defense of Hell, on the whims of diabolical masters, or at the impassioned summons of jilted mortal summoners.
Often, an erinyes will stay her hand before attempting to slay a foe simply so she can draw out the victim’s suffering. Death is usually the only way to escape an erinyes’s not-so-tender attentions, and the most powerful of these devils excel at keeping their enemies alive but helpless so as to extend their torment—many going as far as to keep their victims alive with magic.

“Sorry, I don’t think I have.”
With a hint of amusement they comment “So even creatures from other planes get assigned awful jobs? I had never considered that possibility.”

Quickly snapping off a pair of thorns, she launches them at the scruffy man.
"I've got her seedlings." calls out the Leahy. "You just worry about her."
Over her shoulder she inquires, "So what's to stop you from returning to kill us if we release you, devil?"
Flurry of Thorns 1: 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 1 + 1 = 9
Damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Flurry of Thorns 2: 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 1 + 1 = 18

Over her shoulder she inquires, "So what's to stop you from returning to kill us if we release you, devil?"
She chuckles at this question, as if expecting it. "You are most certainly right to not trust my kind, Zephirine. All I can offer you is my bounded word. Our contract will have no souls involved or backstabbing. You give me my freedom, and I will give you yours." She says with a smile, then it sharply turns into a frown.
"You keep me chained, and I will never cease hunting you." Her eyes flaring a bit at that statement.

Shaken by the Irrica woman's stunning blow, The Foreigner steps around behind her, flanking with Dr. Splash. His arms tremble, making it impossible to strike his foe--this time.
Greatsword, Shaken, Power Attack, Flanking; Damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 122d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 6) + 7 = 15
(AC 16 / T 11 / FF 15) Shield of Blades (Ex): The vigilante’s wild attacks allow him to block his foes’ counterattacks. He gains Power Attack as a bonus feat. If he already has the Power Attack feat, he can immediately swap it for another feat for which he qualified at the level he chose Power Attack. When he takes an attack or full attack action, if he uses Power Attack on every attack to make melee attacks that use his Strength bonus on attack rolls, he gains a shield bonus to his AC until his next turn equal to his penalty on attack rolls from Power Attack. This bonus applies only if he actually takes that penalty on at least one of the attack rolls.

Don't forget bless, Foreigner.
"Zahnlos!" Wertlos hustles over to the wolf, casting a spell as he moves to give his friend some protection. He drops his wand of bless as he arrives, so that he can cast the spell and then have both hands on his longspear. Move 15ft, cast shield of faith on Zahnlos (+2 AC). Wertlos is also close enough now to threaten Pava (however pathetically) with his longspear.
damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Zahnlos, feeling his friend's protective magic (AC is currently 17), continues to follow the last command he was given, moving once again into a flanking position on Pava.
bite, flank, bless: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Knowing HMM is more than likely busy, I will proceed with botting just cause this fight is almost over.
Dr. Splash takes a 5 foot shift backwards and makes another raging ranseur attack!
Raging Ranseur: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 28
Raging Damage: 2d4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 + 3 = 11
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 28
Raging Crit Damage: 4d4 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 4) + 6 + 6 = 22
WOW! Dr. Splash is not to be messed with. Double natural twenty on a raging ranseur.
Pava Irrica gets thoroughly impaled by the Doctor, bloodlusted with rage and anger from the foolish endeavors that Pava has forsaken her own immediate family to. Her blood splatters all over the Foreigner.
Pava's eyes roll into the back of her head as she collapses off the edge of the ranseur. She is dead.

Captain Clorophyll (-0,Fine)

The bandits both watch as their employer is slaughtered, and know full well that they stand not even a shadow of a chance. They drop their bows, full blown sprint into the woods to escape.
Combat Over.

The Erinyes watches Pava's death from from above, clearly impressed by the ferocious telling blow.
"My my my... I wasn't expecting THAT level of ferocity. That was a most brutal display of carnage. You've impressed me enough I will share a piece of knowledge to you, granted, you provide me the relics to free me from this plane. I will share to you what that ring's inscription reads of most value... Part of my true name."

![]() |

"You know all our names, why not give us your full name?" pouts Zephy as she watches her target flea.
"It's rude to withhold your name..." glancing towards the captain she whispers "Right?"

![]() |

The Foreigner looks down at the slain Pava Irrica. And so a storied family's last remaining heir is snuffed out.
He looks up at the winged creature perched on the stone wall, haggling over its coveted artifacts.
I trust this fiend not. Certainly no more than the woman we just killed.
"How are we to trust you, devil?
Sense Motive on the reply: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Captain Chlorophyll whispers to Zephy “I’m not sure. Sort of sounded like their names are special somehow.”

She looks down at the Foreigner with a bit of a frown. "How am I to trust that when the relics are handed over to the Dark Archive they will not have some over-zealous initiate with a quest in mind to slay one of your hated enemies, only to die in vain and then grant them a weapon against you? That my pact won't end because you refuse to relinquish this curse on me now?
These relics should not exist in the mortal realm for some blood drunk adventurer to go out onto the next grand expedition that happens to fall on them. If so, then what? They grow ever more bold? If they control one devil then surely they could control more. Anyone who stands in their way would fall to the false sense of righteousness that fool would claim to be the path to ending all suffering in the world of Golorian and beyond."
She sneers down. "No, the realms beyond are not meant for mortals to tamper with. I grant you the bargain now; release me from my contract and a new one will be made." She holds up her hand. "You go free. Back to exploring whatever hole in the ground your Society decides is worth digging the bones and memories of the past of. Off to the next journey where you will smite some demon who corrupted a village or destroy some out-of-line Aspis who decided material possession was worth suffering that it burdens others."
She slowly clutches her grip, to emphasize her point. "You go back to it all, WITHOUT a very angry devil looming over you waiting for the next instance of you slipping and then dragging your soul to the very pits of Infernus. WITHOUT the devil that will see to it that your blistering tortures ever so painful you would beg for Shyka the Timeless to cheat time just so you could change your mind now."
You are picking up that she is very passionate about being released. Nothing sounds like a lie and it seems she is genuine, but ofcourse you have seldom, if ever, bargained with a Devil before.

She flaps down from her perch to be on the same level as all of you. "If there is one thing you can trust from me, it is that all devils can be trusted to a bargain. How do you think that those foolish Irricas could keep me bound for so long to their miserable will of pitiful vengeance schemes? If it were not the truth, then I would not be here now, offering you the chance to end it once and for all."

![]() |

Looking to the others, Captain Chlorophyll says “I don’t know anything about devils and such, but destroying the ability of others to control a devil seems like a good idea to me.”
Looking towards the Eyrine, they ask “If we do this, would you be returning to where ever it is that you are from?”

![]() |

Looking towards the Eyrine, they ask “If we do this, would you be returning to where ever it is that you are from?”
"I would certainly no longer reside on the mortal plane."
You manage to pick up the truth in that statement.

"This devil wishes to be gone.
It's too dangerous to be any mortal's pawn.
I say we set it free to depart our plane.
So long as evil acts in our world it'll refrain.
Accept it's deal is my vote,
Then get on filling our tummies with ale till we bloat!!!"

"Better gone than working for some Chelaxian, an evil slave put to evil purpose! Let her go and good ridd- eep!" Wertlos cuts off mid-sentence when he makes eye contact with the devil. He physically recoils, ducking quickly behind a nearby pillar to cower.

![]() |

“I have no interest in deals with your kind,” Dr. Splash says, “but at least you keep to the letter of your agreements if not the spirit. Leave this plane with your name, never to return.”

As it seems the group is in agreement to release the Erinyes, the collected relics are placed on the ground before the devil. She moves up and eyes each relic, before scooping them up and saying something in Infernal.
"Reziel."
"Our bargain is now complete. From this day forward, I will no longer observe and follow you, and you will be free of my wrath."
Then her wings wrap around her as she shifts out of this plane.

After the erinyes departs, The Foreigner steps inside the ruins for a minute. He takes the time to lace up his leathers and bind his hair...

![]() |

...Krieger emerges from the ruins, pondering the mission as it has developed.
"We ended the line of the Irrica family. We gave the devil the artifacts we'd collected, and we released the fiend as it requested. But we did, at least, get its name. Not a total failure, I suppose."
He shrugs, lost in thought, already drafting a chronicle to tell the tale.
"Will the Decemvirate agree?"

![]() |

"Finally, she's gone" Wertlos shudders. "She said 'Reziel', by the way."

With the devil gone, Pava dead, the ettercap also dead by now, and the bandits fleeing for their lives, the journey out of the Chitterwood and to Almas to meet with the venture captain is quiet. A caravan that is heading there via the better traveled roads accepts you on board, shortening the trip.
Venture Captain Brackett awaits in his own lodge, and finding him inside is not difficult. He is sitting at his desk reading a briefing from another group. When you open his door he looks up to see you all have arrived and intact.
"Excellent, you have returned. I trust you have a report to share."

"We've learned the Irrica family bound a devil for generations.
And used it for a variety of nefarious implementations.
We defeated the Irrica family member looking to rebind the devil.
And set the creature free from our plane before more damage it could level.
It vowed never to return and cause more pain,
While also revealing to us part of its name.
My companions, please feel free to fill in more of our story's gaps,
While I step away to fill our glasses at the beer taps!!

The Amazing Urchin |

The Amazing Urchin holds up his report and then points to Ralph. What he said. Now, where’s the beer?

“The devil said it was an Eyrine. At first it was rather chatty, but when we hesitated to give the items up the threats started.” They then give a description of the devil.
Inclining their head towards Wertlos, they say “The devil said something that Wertlos understood. Since I don’t speak the language, it is best if they tell you the word.”
“since Pava died when they tried to forcibly take the items from us, do you care about what she looked like or anything like that? She really seemed a most unpleasant person.”

![]() |

The Venture Captain stands up and pulls from his drawer out a fancy bottle of whiskey thats been unopened, along with eight glasses.
"I consider this mission a success. It was most important that no one had control over something like a devil as a personal attack beast. While these relics may have been returned to hell where they belong, they will no longer be in the hands of those who are driven by vengeance."
He lets everyone take a glass of whiskey and he raises his. "To a successful mission! Well done, Pathfinders!"

"She said 'Reziel', I'm assuming part of her name." Wertlos shudders at the thought of the devil, then slams back the whiskey and shakes his head. "Good riddance to that family. One less bunch of slaving devil-worshipers in the world."
