Merry Christmas all and some of my luck at being in a non-covid place to you and your families.

RPGGGM |

Happy Crystalehue everyone! Hope everyone got the Zonzon they were hoping for!

Alia of the Blade |

Happy Holidays.
Also, seems I need a few more colored strands for the festivities.
Finally, Zon-Zon sounds like a cute nickname for our resident ranger.

Zokon Santyev |

Zon-Zon --.. hmmm..
Christmas was more about the giving this year, but that in itself was joyful. I hope you all as good a luck.

RPGGGM |

I think he would need more safety pins in his face.

After a glance at the rules the following should work for sure (I think):
Move horse 50' (its move action)
Attempt a fast dismount (probably fail and use a move action to do so)
Have a Standard action left to do something while being on the edge of the map

Alia of the Blade |

No, we are not.
AFAIK most worgs are of the melee-variant.
I'm fine staying at range and shooting at them.
No particular desire to get close and risk being swarmed and turned into a chew toy.
So since I'll stay back, Ilvah can remain on my horsie too.

Yes.

Durgan Far-Walker |

Cavalier actually was my first choice for this campaign way back, in July 2017. Durgan would have been an Honor Guard (Order of the Dragon) with the ability to boost allies' AC.
The party went with Illthir instead, but then the oracle left, so I brought in Durgan as a cleric.
I do love the cavalier class (especially Medium-sized cavaliers on horses).
For an item that boosts skills, the Cracked Magenta Prism Ioun Stone gives a +2 to any one skill (800 gp).
The War Saddle gives a +5 bonus to Ride checks and allows the mount to act as if it is combat trained (5,000 gp).
The Jousting property on armor gives a +5 to Ride checks (3,750 gp).
There's also the Horsemaster's Saddle, which is pricier.

Alia of the Blade |

Aye, hence the suggestion to create a custom magic item, as per bonus squared * 100 for skill items, then times 2 for slotless, and halved for crafting.
By that logic, a +10(which I think is the usual limit for skill items) Ride item would be 10*10*100 or 10k gold, which does seem to make the War Saddle more desirable. But then, we may also opt for a +5 ride item at 2500 gold and instead get combat-trained mounts(and a few replacements if needed) for that kind of money.
(I understand per crafting the war saddle would also be 2500? so could be the superior option after all.)
But as said, just a suggestion for the future, figured if we're gonna keep riding, we may look at options to improve our performance there further :)

Fergus Bouldershoulder Ironmug |

I find the expensive ride bonuses un needed tbh, a one level dip of dragoon (fighter) and a decent dex of 12-14 gives a decent ride check of 13ish at 5. 15 with the ioun
That said I don't particularly like the cavalier class, I love the concept of a mounted cavalry character, but the class is lackluster. I prefer samurai to cavalier honestly.
If you are talking about for characters not built around mounts I wouldn't bother. It would be better to just burn the move action if nessecary to dismount or direct.

Illthir Winlowe |

We *could* invest in alchemical dragons or whatever those fancy vehicles are called :D
Or maybe a chariot or something ...

Alia of the Blade |

Expensive? that +5 item crafted costs 1250 gold(even though the 2500 variant of the saddle eliminates the DC 20 check) - I hardly consider that "expensive" compared to the opportunity cost of a dip.
(especially if you add 800 for the ioun again).
That said, yeah, I was talking about a.: making sure everybody that needs to can without fail guide with knees(that is, want to cast and wield a weapon, or use a two-handed weapon like a bow).
and b.: has at least a decent chance of a fast dismount.
(for a pure caster it is more acceptable to move-action dismount and standard action cast, but it may leave them in a bad tactical position. for others it's the difference between charging for melee or full-attacking for ranged.)
Finally, c.: we may come up on mounted enemies, or find ourselves in a pursuit. Being able to leap or spur the mounts may be relevant.
Some of those could be bypassed with e.g. Phantom Steed, Communal - which will overtake any regular horse swiftly in a chase.
But overall it was less of a 'we all need to become mongols' and more of a 'if we're continuing to travel around by riding and may often find ourselves mounted for random encounters, then some minor investments of skill or gold may be worthwhile' - not to everybody, but to some of us.
That said, I'll totally settle for a Broom. Or a Carpet.

Durgan Far-Walker |

I do like horses for Kingmaker. We seem to be in the "low fantasy/sword-and-sorcery" region of Golarion (relatively speaking). Not to the extent of its inspiration (Westeros), but not as over-the-top as some other parts of Golarion either.
But yes, Durgan will eventually get Teleport which will make traveling by horse sort of quaint.
And Phantom Steed is a pretty great spell.

Zokon Santyev |

Good discussion, more detail than I know.

"CAVALIERS ARE SUPER AWESOME!!"

Illthir Winlowe |

Happy new year :)

Alia of the Blade |

Fergus, I think you'll do a single move towards Durgan - you still have a move action to go to finish your enlarge person first, having used a standard last round.
Since you do look large and dismounted on map I think you'll finish the spell rather than drop it?

Illthir Winlowe |

Site has had some hardware issues. Clearing your paizo.com cookies *should* let you log on now again though!
There's a thread somewhere on the general paizo forum that explains stuff more in depth :)

RPGGGM |

Thanks for the heads up.

Zokon Santyev |

Sorry I haven't been able to get on for days

Balzeros of the Narl |

Same! Bizarre. Cookie eating clearing got me back in though :)

Alia of the Blade |

Aye, had some cookie troubles as well recently - been better by Friday but then there were some birthdays to take care of and everything was busy(for a good reason, once) :)

RPGGGM |

I had troubles with the near fall of democracy the last couple of months but am feeling MUCH better now. ;)

Illthir Winlowe |

Congratulations on that btw. Let's hope it doesn't try to derail again for a while :D

Alia of the Blade |

Aye. I'm totally for the fall of democracy and the rise of (benevolent) AI overlords.
But the last couple of months weren't really fun. Unfortunately, the global trend does not look great, either. Here's hoping we manage the downfall of civilization without becoming extinct.
*shrug*

Illthir Winlowe |

Welcome back :)

Balzeros of the Narl |

No alarm spell here!

Illthir Winlowe |

Oh! Illthir has 3 scrolls of Alarm.
She could also do it via spell kenning.

Illthir Winlowe |

There's a really cool bard masterpiece (arrowsongs minstrel? something) that lets you cast bard spells of written work. That'd be handy to have ... Just need a few more levels :p
---
From a quick glance at the level 2 spells there aren't terribly many that help ward an area. It's basically Sentry Skull and I don't think we are doing that one!

Fergus Bouldershoulder Ironmug |

sorry all, still busy this year... I do like several bardic masterpieces, most aren't worth the cost, but some are really nice and fun.

RPGGGM |

sorry all, still busy this year...
You and me both. You would not think folks would still be buying so many cars what with all the COVID flyin' about the States, but it is what it is and keeps the lights on.

Zokon Santyev |

Busy for me to, new job, actual covid breakout, masks for 2 weeks, 1 person got covid. Western Australia v lucky in these times.

Zokon Santyev |

Sorry all stupid website kicked me out again, and i didn't realise, i saw no posts.

RPGGGM |

No worries. Tis a busy time in the world what with coups, impeachments, pandemics, etc... on top of real life.
I'll give folks a little longer to post what they are up to, and then move on.

Alia of the Blade |

I must say, I am disappointed.
When Texas asked for Federal Aid due to the Snow Storm, Biden just complied. Federal aid, just like that.
No groveling or feet-kissing needed. No "see what the other party did, they are to blame for this misery" because the color of the state differed from his preference. No angry tweets(except maybe by Ted 'Zodiac' Cruz).
The clown you had previously was much more entertaining from a global perspective. Even if he was pretty much just a reboot of the 1930s around here in Europe.

Illthir Winlowe |

Sorry all stupid website kicked me out again, and i didn't realise, i saw no posts.
>.>
I was looking at my campaign page looking for updates. And yeah, I wasn't logged in either :/

Illthir Winlowe |

Oh! Ooooh! New guess!! Changeling. What do we think about that?

Durgan Far-Walker |

Who are you talking about?
"Ilvah"? What is an "Ilvah"?
I don't remember any little girl... I'm sure I would remember something like that...

Alia of the Blade |

Technically, I do have an expeditious retreat ready, I could catch up, and I was considering rushing ahead. But that would mean leaving Zokon alone, and I promised your mum that I'll protect you and take good care of you.
Future Husband > Randomly rescued Child Ward
(even though Zokon can probably take better care of himself than Ilvah)
(Don't get me wrong, I want to know what is going on and will jump through hoops to find out what is up with her.)

Durgan Far-Walker |

I'm not thrilled about splitting the party, but
a) We do have a huge party,
b) I will still be here as a player even if I sit out this scene, and
c) Losing the horses could mean that we miss the big shindig in Restov.
So take your time and do whatever this is here.
