Ragnar, is Muni going with Ragnar to commune with the spirits or is he sticking arouund to bug Ilona?
Whenever I do a "Muni's Chronicle", I always have him dissapear from the game for a little bit. I don't really anounce it, I just have him not post. It's my way of trying to emulate his sort of mysterious Vigdir nature. In my mind he crosses over into the spirit world and goes to relay information to the great dornish ancestor spirit that is orchestrating Ragnar's fate.
So he's going to be gone until he gets called back by Ragnar's ritual. After that he's all yours.

... prevent the soldiers to use the tortoise manoeuvre they used before and to be able to fire crossbows from protected positions....
I hope that Ragnar either gets the ability to be teleported or to walk incorporeally, because having him suddenly appear in the middle of a pack of soldiers suddenly would be high hilarity.

Hey, guys. I haven't been able to check the boards these last few days, so I couldn't keep up with the game.
I should return from my voyages come Wednesday, so I will return to posting as well.
Can someone please repost this to Return to Korvosa Discussion Thread? Thanks for not loosing patience, guys.

Masterpiece! Without Muni's Chronicles I would probably be rather clueless. Thanks!
I had the idea of quenching the future sword of mine in my blood, but now I see that you have done that with yours. Can we make it a relict of Dornish tradition left in my Erenlander family, if you do not mind me doing that?

Historically, when a blade was "quenched in blood" it meant one of two things-
The first time a blade was used to kill. (Some of the eviler Samurai used to do this when they would gain new blades, testing the edge on peasants.)
When the blade was quenched during forging, the person making the blade would bleed into the waters as a symbolic event, usually while making an oath or dedicating the blade to some task. (This is actually a Norman tradition, that spread to england from scotland and earlier from the Vikings, so it's very in keeping with Dornish feel.)
Ragnar, being the creepy necromancery guy he is, misunderstood, and actually bled himself to his death bed every night into a barrel, having Gillian heal him after he collapsed. He used magic (the Preserve Organ spell) to keep the blood fresh. He actually quenched his blade in about 20 gallons of blood.
I doubt you want Duncan to go that route, but bleeding into the quenching waters and making an oath seems very much in keeping with the feel of the character you've presented.
Interestingly, the forging scene I wrote for Ragnar's sword ended with the quenching in blood, which the sword "drank" leaving behind only water in it's place. That barrel of water is still in the forge.

Nightflier:
I'm kind of confused about something. As I understand it, the layout of the place we are is something like this-
Wooded surroundings, one of the hills eventually leading off to the ring of standing stones we arrived at.
The ancient dwarven castle, which somehow has a ceiling over the courtyard (it was really, really dark in there if I remember) with the well in it that led down into the catacombs.
The catacombs, part of which have collapsed, but if they had been unblocked would lead down to the Progenitor's chamber, the Library and the Forge.
Outside teh castle a ways is a secret entrance that leads down a long set of stairs to a coredor that used to be full of traps that leads to a ritual room outside the Progenitor's Chamber and the Nexus Forge and Library.
That's how I understand it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now, the questions:
Where are the refugees camped? Why do people keep saying that we're vulnerable and exposed? It seems to me that being inside the castle would be a pretty safe place for everyone to be.
Can Pebble clear the blockage from the cave-in? It would be nice not to have to use the "secret entrance"

Castle? Man I musta forgot :/ I thought we were outside a cave entrance or something. We need a timeline of events and places.

Don't you remember the big castle door decorated with suns and moons? You were the one it opened for.
Timeline-
Talked to tall elf at ruins, went down into them. Found the "stepping stone" and used it, traveling to the ring of standing stones in the fog. Came down off the ring of standing stones found warg tracks and the ancient dwarven castle. Chops opened the door. We went in and it was full of magical darkness. We found a fountain and some dead dwarves, the fountain became stairs that led down into the catacombs. In the catacombs we fought undead rats and made it down into the prison where Dorzar was preparing to sacrifice Sorok. He ran and we followed him. He collapsed a tunnel to block us. Ragnar talked to some dead people and found out about the secret entrance outside the castle walls. We went there and met the elemental. Down some stairs, past some traps and a big door we ran into Dorzar again and killed him. Then we forged weapons and went to investigate the tracks outside. We ran into the Oruk Demon, and Anang, fought it then followed it to the cave. Adventures in the cave happened. We got out, found Zafina's camp, whooped their butts and came back to the castle/forge/nexus with refugees.

Very good summary, DH. I remember quite well the castle and all. My assumption (and it's always bad to assume things) was that we had led the refugees to the back entrance as the castle was still haunted/in a permanent darkness. The idea was for them to use the different rooms there and to fortify the back entrance. That's what I've described in my posts.
On an aside note, I don't think it is very important for the rest of the story.
If we want to move on, we need to finish the armor forging (Sorok and Duncan) and then move to the ritual for the attunement to the nexus, the blade enchantment, then the nexus drain.

I'm pretty sure we interrupted the ritual that was causing that effect. Nightflier mentioned it right around the time we ran into Dorzar the first time.

No argument there. I just was wanting to make sure that if Nightflier decided to have Zafina and her troops come harass us that we weren't caught with our pants down, ensuing a big argument about where we were camped and where the refugees were.
Also, if things progress as I think they might, there's going to be another Stepping Stone nearby. If that's the case, having this place fortified and cleaned up as a potential fall-back position isn't a bad idea.

I'm back from the trip, so I'm back in the game as well.
You don't have to worry about Zafina (much). Right now she is playing catch with Kiron around the valley.
There is not that much left to do, really. You need to find the next stepping stone and move on with the game. Everything else you want to do is up to you. I would really like to finish with the forging of swords, armor and whatnot and enchanting Requiem/draining the nexus by the end of the week, though.

Have you considered taking the bull by the horns and just writing up a montage scene?
If you want to just describe to us how the next week passes and fast forward to the point where we're dusting off our hands and discussing what to do next, I'm sure that would be fine.

One last thing I would like to touch on before the story begins progressing again. There is still the question of whether we want to add our latest player or not. So far we have myself, Anang, and Solvistania saying yes, Nightflier, Ragnar and Chops are abstaining from voting and then Gilian, Ilona, and Duncan have yet to give there opinion. There is nothing I hate more than a long winded suspense and I know things didn't work so well with Divine Shadow, Gabboge or Kiron but I'm willing to give it one more shot... So whether you think its all right, don't really care or have any objections please just say so.

Unless I miss my count, everybody's made their feelings known now, and nobody has a problem with me joining.
*steeples fingers*
Excellent.
At this point, then, whaddya think, Nightflier? Sound good?
You are in. I'm gonna review your character tomorrow or day after tomorrow and write you in the game before the party continues to the next part of the story.

Okay, so tomorrow I will do a write up of sword-forging, nexus attuning, blade-enchanting and the rest of stuff that ends with -ing. I'm gonna ask for some pieces of info and some rolls from time to time.

Sorry I disappeared for two weeks, we got sprang with midsemester tests at the same time as a two week research project with an hour long presentation and report at the end of it. Spent all my time either in the lab, writing and doing sodding references, alsleep or revising.

Progenitor's nexus
Spell Energy: 15
Feats Allowed: Craft Arms and Armor, Craft Spell Talisman, Craft Wondrous Item
Affinity: Necromancy
Recovery: Special
Can anyone in the party craft Talismans? Ragnar would really, really like a necromancy talisman.
Insert rant about item creation feats and how much they suck here.
Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Unfortunately even if someone did it would have to be for specific spell, until we're 12th level and at a nexus with 'Craft Greater Spell Talisman'.
I also completely agree that the item cration feats are rather arbitrary, but that's why channelers love 4th level.
I really just want one for Summon Undead 2.
