Hiya, Viscount K here. Trying not to be a nuisanace (y'all are busy freeing people from collars and whatnot), but my brain's starting to overflow with ideas. So, I thought I'd mention that I made an alias and got started on the character sheet for Teral, just in case. Slowly fleshing out the background and beginning work on the numbers.
Sorry about continuing to intrude, but I get enjoyment out of the creative process in this sort of thing and I thought other people might as well.

I just have to point out that I love the impact the world of midnight has on the decision making process. Our healer just ordered an execution.
In most parties there are arguments like, "hey you can't kill that guy unless we give him back his sword and shield and you face him in combat"
In this game the conversations are more along the lines of, "dude...eating people...not cool."

Yeah, well, that's why I like this world and this game. Sure, things will soon go gray for you. For instance, Ragnar is almost a definition of bad guy and his undead rising fetish makes him ideal villein for most games. Your character will so become the Dark Lady of the Sith once she goes warrior-arcanist. So, yeah the game tends to be bleak and tough and how many characters died already? Also, some of that may be because of my GM style. I tend not to pull punches and you as both players and player characters respond to that. And you do so pretty well, I may add.

When she finishes, he runs his fingers through his beard, thinking. "That is the second time that word has been used. What does it mean?" He shakes his head. "No, not that one. The other one." He nods. "Yes. That one. What is that? He looks around. "What? Aren't you going to say anything? Sky'Tor? Anvinder? What are you laughing at? It doesn't seem funny to her. What is it?" He scowls. "Fine. The three of you are about as helpful as a...
Ok any bets as to the word Ragnar is talking about?

Ranger, I swear from the way you write the conversations with the spirits I can almost hear their voices, all b!~@*ing and complaining. It makes all your posts really enjoyable to read.
Thanks. That's actually the thing that drew me to play this character in the first place. I tried playing a similar character in a table top about a year ago, but it that medium it really didn't work. I'm glad I'm making it work in a way that's fun to read.

So, you returned to the Tomb. Grandfather Stone will not wake because of the captives - he counts on you to have them under control. And if you drain the nexus, his reason for guarding the tomb stops to exist, so he will not care for the captives then.
Now, Duncan has a family heirloom - an amulet. The amulet is essentially his bone item. For now, it gives him only paladin-like courage - and allows him to interact with Ragnar without any problems - but the true power of the item will come when implanted in the weapon. So, this will be an opportunity to integrate new player in the group, to drain the nexus and to create another legendary blade. Of course, there will be rewards for Ragnar and Sorok, and even Duncan if he somehow takes part in the forging of his blade.

So with that being said does anything else interesting happen during the night as Ragnar, Duncan and Sorok forge things? Or can we move on to the next morning?
There are things happening in the forest with The Son and those who followed him, but I am too tired to write about it right now. You in the Tomb can proceed with your plans as discussed.

Looks like the build on Teral is approaching completion at this point. A few things uncomplete, based mostly on the questions below. Got a more detailed background sitting saved on my desktop at home, but that won't be up 'til later today. I know, a little premature, considering I haven't even been approved to join the game yet, but... well, I'm bored at work, so there we go. =)
Anyway, I've got a few questions.
First up, there's an alternate class feature for fighters out of Steel and Shadow (I think) that lets elves drop heavy armor proficiency in favor of Wilderness Step. Would that be allowed? And if it is, a secondary question in the same vein - Could that version of Wilderness Step substitue for the Wildlander trait for other trait prerequisites?
Next, the Brave trait out of IH. Yes/no?
And third, equipment. I'm mostly waiting to see if I get in before I start even thinking about this too much, but if you had any parameters to lay down, I wouldn't mind hearing 'em.
Finally, for the players - I was hoping to hear from some of the people who hadn't chimed in yet. Heard a few approvals, but does anybody have qualms, and if they do, anything I can do to assuage them?
| Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Sorok, I am working on a prestige class for you, but it will take some time. It will be finished before you reach 4th level, so there is time for you to reconsider all of your choices.
Now, what is the next move of the group?
Well, I've got a scene that I'd like to do with Duncan, and then following that it'll be more crafting.
I also need a day to go off and do the Familiar Summoning thing (finally getting Hugi in the game)
And there's that question I wanted to ask Ilona...
There's my agenda while we're here. Does the Familiar thing need to be 24 continuous hours, or can I break it up into chunks?

The two next moves are going to be the draining of the nexus with the enchantement of Ilona and Duncan blades. I'm on it.

Well, it is allowed - but for fighters. You are playing wildlander, right? I have allowed you to play whatever you want, so you don't have to play wildlander if you don't want to.
On the other hand, if you want to play wildlander, than you do not use the class as presented in Midnight 2nd Ed. You use my alternative presented a page or two back.

24 continuous hours. It is supposed to be a period of fasting, meditating and contemplation. And that's how Gil did it.

Sorry, I did not see your post and may have jumbled your agenda. I've sort of started the nexus draining scene, but I think you can jump in for the Duncan scene and the forging if you think they need to go before.

Yep, mostly Wildlander (jungle hunter and all that), but I was toying with a single level of Fighter. I could use the extra feat, and if the weird little mishmash I presented earlier is okay, then it won't slow down my progression towards Trackless Step, which I definitely want. Between the Track feat, Detect Evil from Heavensent and the Sense Evil Magic trait (or whatever that wildlander trait is called), he's gonna be a nigh-unstoppable demon tracker, and the ability to not be tracked in return is just cool.
Oh, and something I forgot. On the subject of your updated Wildlander - a Ranger's favored enemy is functionally the same as Master Hunter. Does it count as that trait for prereq nonsense, does it stack, or something else?

I'm pretty sure the nexus is in the forge (or, sort of above it if memory serves). That means that draining it will probably need to wait until both the forging and enchanting are done. Draining it while someone's attuned and enchanting might be bad for them.

My understanding is that to use the nexus for anything and thus to enchant or drain it, you need to be attuned. (cf the power nexus page of the Darkness Falls website).

Viscount, wildlanders don't have traits anymore. If you want to play wildlander, here are the changes: You use Pathfinder Core rules ranger, but you get animal companion at 1st level, same as druid in the core rules. At 2nd level you get archery style AND two weapon fighting style, but only with light weapons. At 4th level you choose between second animal companion or Magecraft feat and 1 spell point every 2 levels. That's it.

Nexus can be used for forging arms and whatnot (spoons, for example) without being attuned to it. For enchanting, you must be attuned to it. And the only thing that you can enchant right now is Ilona's Requiem, because she will use it as her Arcane Bond item, and the rules state that for the purposes of enchanting Arcane Bonded item you don't need to have appropriate feats. So, Duncan's sword can not be enchanted.

I don't know if Duncan will visit the board tonight. It's half past midnight here, so he is perhaps asleep. I'm sure that he will post tomorrow at the latest since he was looking forward to the forging of his sword. He should probably have some say in the description of the weapon. By the way, Ragnar, your own blade is intelligent and it may have issues with you making another bastard sword when you have her :). Perhaps it would be better if you call familiar first?
You know, I've been wondering about that. Since you'd given me the weapon, I'd thought that the blade's intelligence would be sort of an NPC character, but you've never posted anything regarding that.
I figure you've got enough on your plate, so if you want, I can give voice to the blade. I'd like a detailed description of the sword's personality and desires though.

My interpretation of all of the posts is this:
1) Son runs out to the woods.
2) Chops and Anang follow.
3) Duncan asks Ragnar to make him a sword and Ragnar wants to test his worthiness.
4) Duncan and Sorok start dueling.
Afterwards, all of the bowl forging and stuff happens. I could easily be mistaken.
| Duncan Bloodforged |
No, the forging took place during the night, while you were following Son. Gilian said that she speaks to the whole party after we spoonsmiths have rested a while. And my guess is that it takes place late in the morning, so you have long returned from the spying of Son. And after her speech Sorok and Duncan start dueling.

Hey folks,
Sorry to barge in on your thread... but happy to see that this game is still alive and well.
This was the only way I could get a hold of Doomed Hero. DH, do you know anything about the suspension of www.againsttheshadow.org? Are you able to contact Nif directly via e-mail? It would be really sad to lose that site so abruptly... not to mention your Clarion Quietus PbP!
Anyhow, please let me know if you've heard anything. You can also e-mail me directly - xcattarinich (at) hotmail (dot) com.
Cheers!

Oh, I see. Wow, that's way different than what we'd all been reading. Okay, my bad. In that case, I'm going with three levels of Wildlander, and I pose this question: Is there any way to get one of the old Wildlander traits as a feat or trait or somesuch? Specifically, the second tier Sense Dark Magic. I love the flavor of this character being able to track demons by scent.

Well, since I need a way to power up you to the level of the rest of the group, perhaps I can allow you to take some of those traits in addition to the class as is. I'll think of a way. But that is for later. For now, concentrate on finishing your character and getting accepted by the Bonebearers. That decision will be wholly on them.

I didn't catch that part. I also was under the impression that the order of everything was retconned so that all of the forging was going to take place after all of the fighting. I was also waiting for some description of what Son was going to do once he got back to camp. For all I know, he came back to camp and animated the corpses of the animals he caught to try and kill us all.

I still haven't posted anything about what he did upon return to the camp mostly because it doesn't have much to do with the story. He will just share most of the food with other captives, saving some for Elorien and himself. And that is happening outside of the forge, so it doesn't have any impact on the group. For now, I'm keeping the group and the captives separated, because I don't want to clutter the main story line.

We haven't forged anything but bowls and spoons yet, and we did that during the night so there would be enough for people to eat with in the morning.

Ok, Ragnar, Sorrow has the personality of young girl with a terrible burden - the knowledge of the ancestors of Dorns. That is represented by the skill points that she gives you. You can role play that as consultations with her. She is lonely and sad and she yearns for company. In a way, she has just gained consciousness, so she does not exactly know how to behave. She doesn't have the knowledge of real people, just of sagas and epics. As you grow in levels, so shall she grow in power (as covenant items do) and she will mature. Until you reach 5th level she will be like your kid sister; between 5th and 10th her personality will be more older, like she has 20 years or so. At levels above 15th she will become more like an older sister and little bossy, perhaps.
Also, she may be both jealous of Ilona and pushing you to beget an heir. She also may demand you give her gifts in the form of magic scabbard or magic rings affixed to her hilt or staff like that. That will happen from time to time, depending on the game.
These are just broad strokes. The rest is up to you. You may develop her as you wish. I will keep my interventions to a minimum.

Sorry I've slacked off on the posting a bit, been really busy finishing training for my job. Next week I shift to my new permanent schedule where I'm off Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so those'll be my post heavy days with a post or two on other days, usually after 1am Eastern time.
