Bad news all.
A change at work means I actually have to do stuff rather than play pbp's on my betters dime.
Bloody consultants....
Anyway things do not look to be chancing for the next month or two at least so I am afraid I will have to drop.
I want to apologize to everyone but especially to Zen. A players first responsibility is to show up and I have failed.
Keep fighting the bad fight.
Jack out.

-- Dark Angel -- |

Con season is upon us, and in just two months, I will be running the game room for CoastCon (Biloxi, MS - March 16-18 if anyone is interested). This does mean that for the next two months, my life is very hectic and gaming must take a back seat. I'm not dropping, just giving warning that my posting may be slightly curtailed (more than usual). If I'm holding things up, just go ahead and bot me if necessary, though I will try to check in at least every other day (except weekends, most of which I will be busy).
If you're in one of my games, I'm apologizing now for any unnecessary delays. Just hang in there and we will plug through.

Roll call : so, with Jack and Thomas gone, I'm just checking to see who's still here. My list is : Alpha One, Dark Angel, Dr. Toxic, Enkidu, Nature, and Wolf Spider.
Please reply if you *are* still here (I'll assume Dark Angel is here, since she's busy). Thanks!
And, since you didn't evidently get any XP for the heist, everyone gets an Advancement, and 2 more PP for "retrieving" Monolith! Please tell me what you're going to do with them...

Okay, here's my new character:
Agility d4
Smarts d8
Spirit d8
Strength d4
Vigor d8
Charisma -1
Pace 6
Parry 4
Toughness 6
Skills: Fighting d6, Knowledge (History) d8, Notice d8, Shooting d6, Stealth d6
Hinderances: Heartless (Minor), Dependent (Major; Deceased wife)
Edges: Arcane Background (Superpowers), Elan
Powers: Teleport (Traverse) -6
Regeneration 3 -6
Uncanny Reflexes 1 (Blinding Reflexes) -6
Attack, Ranged 1 (Cone 1) -2
Continuum was at first a hero, using his powers under the guise of "The protector of space/time". He switched sides after he met his wife, however, and she turned him.
He changed his name to Continuum and began stealing historical artifacts and using his wife's connections to sell them.
Like him, his wife had the ability to teleport, but she could only teleport inanimate objects she touched.
When the V'Sori arrived, the duo decided to go on a crime spree while all of the heroes were busy standing on a stage preparing to meet the visitors. All was going well until the V'Sori attacked the heroes on live tv. In that moment, everything changed for their relationship.
His wife wanted to start a resistance against the V'Sori, but Continuum did not want to have anything to do with it. Ultimately, she convinced him that they should try a mission first and see what it was like.
The mission was a disaster.
Her plan was to attack a holding facility where super powered beings were captured and being experimented on. They infiltrated the base without issue and his wife teleported the building's generator into the air a half-mile up, directly over the motor pool.
That was when everything went wrong. The V'sori had a backup generator that took over immediately, and Continuum's wife decided that they "had" to destroy that one too.
When the found the location of the backup generator, a horde of V'Sori were waiting for them, and they were quickly subdued.
Grueling months of experiments followed, and it was during this time that his wife died. They made him watch as they tortured her to death, attempting to locate the origin of her abilities.
Continuum himself is unsure of what happened next. He awoke in the basement of their home, surrounded by destroyed machinery and several body parts.
Grief stricken, Continuum practiced with using his teleportation powers offensively, and soon discovered that he could teleport specific parts of people off of their bodies.
Continuum was waging a one-man war against the V'Sori when they finally captured him. He was rescued by Omega and joined the resistance.

Vrog Skyreaver |

That's the descriptive part of his attack power.
As far as dependent goes, I was going for this part:
If the Dependent ever dies, your hero is grief-stricken until he gets reasonably permanent justice…or revenge! This might mean putting a villain in jail or—for a villain—defeating a hero in a painful and elaborate death trap. Justice doesn’t have to be truly permanent—just long and lasting rather than fleeting and temporary.
Until then, the affected character receives only one Benny at the beginning of each game session (but Luck and other bonuses apply normally).
Emphasis mine.

Enkїdu |

Considering that Bad Luck is a Major, and only takes one of your Bennies, what you've given yourself is much worse. If your enemy was one that could be defeated (like a particular V'sori, then I could see the GM asking you to pay it off if you wanted to complete the arch, but in this case it looks like you'd likely had that disadvantage for the entire campaign... My worry is that it would be too big a handicap to live with; you sure you want to do That?

Alpha One |

Still around. If my duplication powers are being an issue (extra work) I can also opt to create a new character.

Alpha One |

I'm in as long as its going. I'll try to be a bit more proactive, but yeah I'll miss Jack and Thomas pushing the group along

Interest Check:
Anyone here ever play Rifts, from Paladium Games? It was an interesting setting with a terrible, clunky ruleset. It has recently been updated to use the Savage Worlds rules. It is for that reason that I'd thought I'd check here to gauge interest.
If you're not familiar with the setting, but are interested in another Savage Worlds you'd be welcome too. Basically it is a sort of Post-Apocalyptic, inter-dimensional, everything and the kitchen sink sort of setting. Kind of like Shadowrun meets Mech-warrior, meets D&D, meets... whatever else you want to toss in.
When World War III broke out and the earth got nuked, so many sentient beings all dying at once unleashed a psychic blast that awakened all the dormant magic in the world, and shattered the borders between dimensions. The humans that survived used their advanced technology, including giant robots and power armour, to survive, or turned to unlocked magic or psychic abilities to survive. The world was overrun by every kind of extradimensional race and terror, making survival pretty tough.
A few groups banded together to survive, including the Nazi-like Coalition of Humanity, the Federation of Magic, and others. Our heroes belong to a small group of like-minded survivors called the Tomorrow Legion, operating out of a mysterious castle located in Missouri of all places. Unlike the exclusionary and xenophobic groups that exist elsewhere in North America, the Tomorrow Legion will accept anybody that just wants to work together to survive.
This is the players guide, and is all a person needs to play.
Let me know if anyone would be interested. If I get sufficient interest, I will start up a recruitment thread.

I'd be up for it. Always loved Rifts, just hated the system, and the transition to SW seems solid. The only caveat is that until after March 18, my time is severely limited.

GM_ZenFox42 |

Just a P.S. on Rifts - *everything* is "MEGA" - guns do more damage, spells do more damage, you start out with lots more Edges, etc. If you want to see Savage Worlds on steroids, Rifts is for you!
Regarding this game, it sounds like we all need a week off. So I'll continue in Gameplay next Tuesday or Wednesday. If anyone wants to post ideas about how to accomplish your current given set of goals before that, please feel free!

Rigor Rictus |

Ya, it is pretty over the top.
That was probably my number 1 issue with the original system; there was not even a token attempt at maintaining any form of balance. You would end up with stupidly imbalanced groups. Not like regular imbalanced, where the fighter-guy kills all the baddies before the rest of the team gets to help, but imbalanced on orders of magnitude. One character could be built on a level to take on galactic level threats, stopping alien invasions, and pursuing ancient evils, destroying giant mecha with a single blast of his Soul-Fire... and his teammate would be Ryan, a streetwise thief who is pretty good with a knife or broken bottle.
I am pleased to say that the Savage Worlds version is much much better. Imbalance is still pretty easy to come by, but at least it is normal imbalance (Ryan is hogging all the kills).
I enjoy some good roleplay, but I am not opposed to a little over-dramatic action either, and so far, I've found Savage Rifts to have a nice balance. In my Real-Life game, I have found it is frustratingly hard to actually die in Savage Worlds, so I might tweak a rule or two in order to increase the deadliness a little and add a bit of the excitement a healthy respect for death brings to the game.
I'll start typing up the details for a recruitment thread and let you know when it is ready.
Edit:
@Dark Angel: No problem. I'll reserve a spot for you if you like. As I also don't know what the interest level will be like and how long recruitment might take, it is possible the game might not be up and running till then. We'll see. If you have time and have an Archetype in mind, let me know, as I'll try to make my selections with that class being taken in mind.

Rifts recuitment thread is up. Check it out HERE
Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions if you have them.

Apologizing for my lack of posting. The con is this weekend and for the last four days I have been slammed with convention work. Things should be back to semi-normal on Monday.

Enkїdu |

Just so everyone is aware, I may go dark for a few days. I go in for an operation tomorrow that I've been waiting for quite a while. Nothing immediately life threatening, but something that has to be addressed sooner or later. It's one of those situations where they don't know what it will be like until they get inside, so it is hard to predict what recovery will be like. Hopefully all will go smoothly and I'll be back in a couple days.
As some of you are with me in multiple games, I apologise for the duplicate post.

Vrog Skyreaver |

Sorry for the lack of posting. For the second time this year, I got the flu, and the internet is out at my house right now (where it has been for the last two days). It should hopefully be resolved by Monday, and if not I'm going to switch ISPs. Please feel free to bot me until I am back up and running, and if I am running your game, I haven't forgotten about you!

-- Dark Angel -- |

I will be out of pocket this weekend (Friday through Sunday). I have a local convention and will be running PFS for much of it, so I will not be checking in. See everyone on Monday.

GM_ZenFox42 |

Enkidu - yeah, I didn't think out that "should've raised his Toughness" comment. The machine already had a pretty high Toughness, high enough that ordinary hits from Alpha and Angel wouldn't have even Shaken it.
You *are* an extremely heavy-hitter, much more so than the others. I don't want to ask you to nerf your build, because it is within the rules. But I just read an interesting idea on a SW forum where a Super runs at one level of power, but can take a round to "power up", much like in the Dragon Ball cartoon series. Would you be interested in that? That way your normal fighting mode is on-par with the others, but if you run into a powerful adversary, you can increase your damage output.
Or, I can start providing a mixed bag of adversaries, lower-Toughness ones to attack the others, with a much more powerful one to attack you. But that seems a little contrived to me, that the powerful one would always pick you out.
Thoughts? Reactions? Ideas?

Enkїdu |

Sorry 'Fox, I saw your post, but I didn't have time to reply, and forgot to come back to it. To be honest, the Dragon Ball Z idea does not appeal to me.
I am ok with things that are slightly contrived for the sake of balance. It is entirely plausible that enemies might target him early if he is big and scary looking (so heavy goes for heavy makes good sense). As well, as the group gains a reputation, his status as heavy hitter might become more common knowledge.
All in all, as I said up front, if he is a problem, I think I'd rather sub him out and come up with something new as opposed to altering him (even the two stage power levels is a bit contrived and basically a nerf as well, so I don't see much difference between the two).

Enkїdu |

Meh, creating characters is one of the more enjoyable aspects of the game to me. I like coming up with offbeat concepts and stories, and finding interesting ways to make the crunch suit the character idea can be fun as well. I even have a few ideas for a new character.
However, as players in my Rifts game can probably attest, what I'm short on right now is time.

-- Dark Angel -- |

Just a note to let everyone know that I am in the direct path of Hurricane Gordon. This should be fairly routine (I've weathered many such storms), but in case we lose power or I am otherwise out for a few days, that's what has happened. If you are in my game, stand tight and I'll be back. If I am in your, please bot me as necessary.

-- Dark Angel -- |

This is a brief message to let everyone know that I am going to be on vacation from Sunday, 23 September until 1 October. As many of you may be aware, my wife is 90% blind from glaucoma. She wanted to see Walt Disney World through the eyes of friends who have never been (or haven't been in many years) before she can't see at all. So I, she, and 9 of our friends are all going to Walt Disney World for a week!
During this time, my posting will be greatly curtailed, if not nonexistent. If you are in my game, I will continue upon my return, just sit tight. If I am in your game, please feel free to bot me as required.
During this week leading up to my vacation, I will be very busy and may be slowed, but I will try to get a post out before leaving for the week.
