OK, thanks for the heads-up. I plan to update today. Sorry again. I'm very frustrated with my rate, and trying to be better.

My bad. I was wondering what that meant. I've never done these type rules so this is all brand new to me.

Well... ah well, Dorrin really can't do anything else then.

Dorrin could maybe take a stab at the walls too. Maybe stonecunning could apply? I’m making checks for it untrained as it is, and mott said if multiple PCs try the same task, the highest roll stands and lower rolls = aid another.

Question: Vexras used Know(engineering) on his rolls. Do we have to use the same skill? Would it be possible to use any of the three: Craft (stonemasonry), Knowledge (engineering), or Profession (stonemason) check to aid that roll? No worries if not but I figured I'd ask just in case.

I ask because I've actually got a +2 in Profession(stonemason). The others are +0.

But let me be clear, I'm trained in NONE of them. The +2 is simply my Wisdom bonus.

I will say I know where a couple of skill points ARE going at next level. :P

I'm willing to allow the related skill.

Cool. Thanks!

Crap. Freaking 18's we're rolling and that's STILL no good. 20 with aid another. Man that sucks.

We're just gonna have to let the walls die because it looks like to me it's either a natural 20 or nothing. That's pointless.

I wasn't aware that our characters could take background skills. I have made some choices thinking that I only had adventuring skills to choose from. May I add support for background skills to my character?

If so, the skills I have made that are considered background skills so far are:

Linguistics (2 ranks)
Knowledge (History) (1 rank)
Profession (herbalist) (2 ranks)

At 8th level, that leaves 11 more ranks for Background Skills and frees up 5 ranks for Adventuring Skills. Given my character background (cleric of Erastil who is a part of the Chernasardo Rangers), I think I could reasonably choose to add ranks in Knowledge (local), but I doubt it would make sense for me to add ranks in engineering or stonemasonry.

I was thinking Knowledge (geography) and Craft (mapmaking) made more sense for additional background skills.

I have a plan for the additional skill ranks, here is the updated skills using background skills. I put two ranks in each of the background skills. Let me know what you think.

* Appraise +7 (2)
* Craft (mapmaking) +7 (2)
Fly +9 (5)
* Handle Animal +3 (2)
Heal +15 (8)
Knowledge (arcana) +6 (1)
* Knowledge (geography) +4 (2)
* Knowledge (history) +7 (2)
Knowledge (local) +7 (5)
Knowledge (nature) +9 (3)
Knowledge (planes) +6 (1)
Knowledge (religion) +9 (4)
* Linguistics +7 (2)
Perception +19 (8)
* Profession (herbalist) +8 (2)
Sense Motive +9 (3)
* Sleight of Hand +3 (2)
Spellcraft +7 (2)

Female Human HP: 76/76 | AC 21 ( 15 T / 17 FF) | Fort +9* / Ref +9* / Will +6* | CMD 29 (25FF) | Perception + 12 | Sense Motive + 12| Stealth +13

Violet is currently best suited toward assisting Arryn on Militia Drills, assuming she's allowed to assist his Profession: Soldier with her Intimidate.

Otherwise, she can keep trying for successes on her own, but +3 isn't likely to yield much.

Maybe we can try to find some clever alternatives to build up the walls? Violet can pin large animals to fill some of the holes?

Vexras can’t make it, but Dorrin only needs an 11 to hit that Perception check.

Our rolls have been fine for the walls. We need to catch the dang saboteur(s) in the act.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Unfortunately I rolled garbage.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I don't want to get us too bogged down in this. You are aware of saboteurs because of Violet's initial roll, and you know you're having trouble with the walls. You tried to set up one trap outside the town that failed; you could try to setup something else inside, or come up with some other method to try to catch them.

You've also got the message Brostic got, which I assume he'll share with you.

I'm on vacation this week, so not sure how much time I'll have for posting. I may still have time to post today and Tuesday, but definitely don't expect to be posting Wednesday-Friday. I'm hoping to get going again Saturday evening.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hay all, happy holidays. I'm waiting on the party, though obviously this is a busy time of year. I'm fine if we take a slowdown/break through this week and then resume until New Year's. If there are posts for me to respond to, though, I should be around to do so. :)

Sorry, I am unable to get a mental picture of this cave/tower/cliff combibation and was hoping others were better able to do so.

The tower is carved into the face of the cliff, but there’s a cave in the cliff but the cave is blocked by a tower. The cave is “small” but it’s twenty feet high in a thirty-foot high cliff, so the tower is thirty-feet high carved into a cliff face, of which two thirds is cave?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Yeah, it's odd. Take a look at the overall map, and you should get a better picture. Basically, though, the wide cave mouth is narrower because there's a tower built into what would have been the natural wall.

Shoot, didn’t realize there was a map. Looked in combat map, but not overall. That makes a lot of sense now.

Oh geez. Hope you recover quickly.

(That said, I'm waiting on you all.)

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hey all,

So I have some bad news. Vexras has decided to step away from his PBP games.

I'm a bit torn about what to do. I've written this post a few times with different results. On one hand, I enjoy playing with all of you, and I don't want to give up mid-AP. On the other, I obviously post a LOT less than when I started this game. Between my work schedule changing; a lot more of my free time being devoted to writing games; and my general preference for 2nd edition, this game feels like more of a chore. There are moment you guys provide that are a lot of fun and make me want to keep going, but there are other bits that feel like the last thing I want to do is post (even though that usually only takes me a few minutes once I do it).

I'm curious what you all would prefer to do. I know I dislike when my PBPs go slowly, but I don't think there's much chance I'm going to pick up my pace here anytime soon. I know if I were a player, I'd be frustrated with me as a GM. You've all been very patient, but I have long said momentum is king in PBP and I think my slow posting leads to you all slow posting and it just spirals from there.

So, thoughts? Are people happy with the game and want to push on? Or is it time to say we've been at it more than four years, and that's a pretty good run (since some PBPs don't last four days). If the latter, do we want to call it now, or try to come to some final resolution?

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Crap. Man he was such a good character.

I'll be honest, a slow pace for ME is really no problem. I've been in games that were WAAAAY slower. I mean, I was in a Runelords Book 1 that lasted 3 years! I kid you not.

This is solid game with solid folks all around. Real good game, Mott. I'd have no problem continuing by any stretch.

Having said that, if you don't enjoy it like you use to, then it might very well be time to call it. I really hate to push you to do something that isn't as fun as it use to be. Basically, if it does feel like a chore, then we all know how we human beings love chores. :P

I'd be interested in what the others think but ultimately it's going to come down to: DO YOU have the energy to continue? If not, then you're just walking in mud with stone boots.

HP: 91/91; NL: 24; Force Ward: 5/20; Internal Buffer: 1 AC: 21 (touch 16; FF 16; +2 vs goblinoids; 15% chance to ignore crits or sneak attacks); CMD 20| F/R/W: +13/+12/+4; Init: +5; Perc: +12;

As a GM, I know what it’s like when a game isn’t fun anymore. I am fine either way. I currently have plenty of games to keep me busy, but one more slow one isn’t anything extra.

Male Human Cleric (Erastil) 8; HP 83 | AC 18/14T/15F | F+10/R+8/W+10 | Perc +19 | Init +3 | CMD 21

Since I just started this game, it is tough for me to make any judgements. That said, I have enjoyed what little play we have done to this point. I am OK with continuing, but will completely understand if you would prefer to pursue other interests. If you want to GM a PF2E game instead, I would be open to that as well.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

So, after giving it some thought, I think I am going to call it. I kept thinking I should update over the last week and I just don't seem to have it in me. I hate that I'm stopping in the middle of the game. Part of me says I should push through and see if I feel like I have more time when one of my games finishes up in the next month or two and I keep going back and forth between those two concepts. But right now I'm just not finding the time/energy to post, and I think it's probably a good stopping point.

That said, if someone else wants to pick the game up (or find another GM), I can leave the game open for some time. Please let me know.

Also, I do have a vacancy in the one other game I plan to keep running (Strange Aeons). I'd be happy to have any of you join that if you're interested. Please PM me and I can go over more details.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Well I'll be honest and say that stinks - because this has been a great game - BUT, I completely understand the feeling. Totally totally do.

Having said that, if you ever get that itch at some point in the future and want to pick this one back up again... I'd be game to jump back in.

And I'll take a gander at that Aeons game for mostly curiosity's sake at this point. Not entirely sold I can come up with anything - or if I even have the energy for it - but if I do, will shoot you that PM.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks everyone so much for the game, and especially Mott for putting up with what seems to have been a campaign that was cursed by the gods.

I've very much enjoyed playing with you all but I completely understand the need to call it.

Hope to see you all around!

Sorry to see the game go but I understand. All the best Mott and see you around the boards.
