Garrivek knew Isabella hated fey for some reason and assumed she wouldn't back down from a fight. He says he'd rather it come down to a duel than a fight. Also, he's long since out of resources, too.

I'm willing to backtrack, since I was also disappointed that what I think could be a fun role-playing encounter turned to combat. I will post in the near future.
I think there's a line to draw, Isabella, between character and fun. This isn't the exact same thing since you are in a hostile zone, but please don't be the CN character who runs into random NPCs in town and just kills them, because "that's my alignment." These aren't going to be the last fey you run into, and I think you need to make sure you allow for character development, to realize that some fey may *not* be all bad.
That said, where I'm sitting, I'm also still *completely* baffled why the heck you guys aren't resting.

Are we going ahead with the plan of everybody learning a common language that hobgoblins would be unlikely to know? Did we choose one, like Sylvan, which might also be useful? Isabella could have been teaching us as we travelled/camped and we could practice with our new friends.
I’m considering Telekinetic Healer for his sixth level wild talent. It would allow him to heal 3d6+8 with a touch, but also inflicts 1 point of burn on the target (1 non-lethal per level, can’t be removed except by resting). It’s okay as emergency healing, but amazing as nighttime healing if we can be sure we aren’t attacked in the night. However, if you all would rather not bother with that mechanic, then I’ll pick something else.
6th level has other goodies.
When he has 3 points of burn, he gets +2 size bonus to Dex and Con. My plan is to always accept that much burn upon waking, so I factored those ability boosts into his stats. If he’s ever woken up by an ambush at the moment his burn is gone, I’ll have to adjust.
He gets +1 to BAB and all saves. He also takes 1 rank in Acrobatics, Use Magic Device x 2, Perception, Disable Device, Craft Traps, and Linguistics. The boost to Dex means +5 Initiative now (except if surprised right at waking up).

Oh boy, I'd forgotten about that! ^_^ But sure; Isabella would willingly teach you all Sylvan. Especially the swearwords, but the normal stuff as well.

Garrivek Runebuckle |

We'll have a chance to level up tomorrow.

Fulgun Dregg |

I changed my mind about the knowledge skill; I dropped nature and kept dungeoneering instead.
Pretty lackluster level, but I'd been avoiding barbarian level 3 for a while. Time to bite the bullet.
----
Arryn, I've read your post through more thoroughly now; I think the telekinetic healing would certainly get some use. That being said, I don't think it's explicitly necessary though. If there's some other infusion that you like the look of more, by all means, go for that. I've got a kineticist in my other game on the boards here and I know in that case at least the vast majority of infusions available are real stinkers. So if you see one you like a lot, take it!

Arryn Dawood |

Kinetic healer looks to be really amazing as a means of healing everybody up when we have a safe hidey-hole to sleep in. Do a bunch of healing to put everybody at full, then they sleep off the burn. Of course, if that gets abused, I suspect our friendly neighbourhood GM will begin throwing lots of late night ambushes our way.
He’s getting the utility wild talent with his extra wild talent feat from his favoured class bonus, so it has to be a level 1 utility. The only other ones of any interest are Kinetic Cover (Blocks off doorways with mini walls of force) and Elemental Whispers, where the Aether becomes almost a familiar. He could take a hedgehog (he would not be named Sonic) to boost his pathetic Will save and he would be high enough level that he could talk to it and send it scouting around corners.
I had planned on kinetic healer back when I had thought that only one of us had healing magic, plus I’ve always imagined that his military service as a crossbow man had been a mistake and that if he’s been made a field medic, he might have actually been successful. Kinetic healer would have been a huge help when he and Isabella had been taken by Scarvinious, of course.
If folks are very much not interested in having their characters saddled with burn from time to time, I’ll forgo the healing. I’m fine with either direction, so looking to be a team player.

Sorcerer +1
HP +6 HP
Bloodline Spell - barkskin
+1 2nd Level spell/day
+1 1st level spell known - summon monster I
+1 2nd level spell known - false life
Skills: +1 Linguistics (Goblin), +1 Handle Animal, +1 Knowledge Arcana, +1 Knowledge Nature, Spellcraft, +1 UMD

Arryn Dawood |

Aramis, will you eventually take ranks in Mystic theurge? I've never seen one in action in a game, so I'm curious. ^_^
If you are, then you maybe should have taken oracle this level. If you are just doing a 1-level dip of oracle, then never mind.

Aramis Ekerton |

I took the oracle as a 1 level dip to get us some healing. If we never got a second healer, I would've multi-classed them evenly and gone into mystic theurge, but Garrivek's got some decent healing and will get more in the future. I'll be sticking with sorcerer for most of the rest of Aramis' levels. I might dip in once or twice more, but it'd be the exception.

Garrivek Runebuckle |

Garrivek got the basics: HP, +1 BAB, +1 all saves, and 9 skills, etc.
He gained +1 mental focus and +1 2nd level spell per day
He gained a new implement school (transmutation), which also grants a transmutation spell known for 0, 1, and 2nd level spells, and also grants him the transmutation resonant power (physical enhancement) and base power (legacy weapon).
And one of his skills went into linguistics to learn Sylvan.
His new spells known are: mending, lead blades, spider climb.

Hey, guys, I feel like we're slowing down again. I know we're coming up on GenCon, and there's a lot going on obviously, but just wanted to check in again and make sure everyone's still invested.
I'm trying to move things along a little and bypass some of the less challenging combats, since those are such time-sucks in PBP, but please check in and let me know how you're feeling.

Fulgun Dregg |

My enthusiasm for pbps in general is at an all time low at this point, but that's largely because the periods I have where I'm able to post and am in a creative mood are ones where I'm stuck on my phone. And, alas, I find my phone to be utterly miserable for posting more than a sentence or two, let alone reference a combat map or a number of other posts that are awfully tiny on a phone screen.
By the time I get home and have my PC in front of me, I'm too spent to bother even opening up the forums most nights.
That being said, I'm still committed to the games I'm in and will go the distance. It may not be with the same level detail and investment I used to bring when I had access to the forums in the office, but I'm with ya until the end, mott.

Aramis Ekerton |

I'm working on a lot of freelance assignments right now, but yup, still here.

Arryn Dawood |

Arryn, combining your telekinetic attack with a bottle of alchemist fire is a brilliant trick. ^_^ I love it.
The b+&%@'s body can burn. :(

Isabella Blackleaf |

I didn’t drop out, Dregg simply took enough damage to outright die from that kick!
Okay, so that's a good news / bad news type of situation. ^^;
Would you like us to look into finding a way to resurrect you?
Arryn Dawood |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

We'll need to find a way of bringing in a new character ASAP. We could return to New Phaendar, escort the fey allies and Cierieo back to safety, and maybe take another crack at befriending the treants, picking up another recently-found warrior for the group. Only problem is I can't see a realistic in-game motivation for the PCs to suggest such a thing.
Of course, there could be some poor prisoner trapped in the stable that needs rescuing Garrivek-style.
I'm really going to miss Dregg. He was like Garazeb Orrelios to Arryn's Ezra Bridger.

Garrivek Runebuckle |

Dregg will be missed.
And yes, we should definitely bring Cierieo and the others back to our refugees.

Vexras Voltagian |

I’m not sure how best to actually describe how Vexras’ accent sounds, but it’s supposed to sound like something in between Hondo Onaka and Zevran (from Dragon Age: Origins). Though he’s a good deal more genuine than dear ol’ Hondo =P

Garrivek Runebuckle |

Sounds good.
Congrats, Mott! My wife says you have a bounty coming out. Looking forward to it.

Aramis Ekerton |

Hi everyone!
Sorry for our absence and thanks for your patience. We're back online now.

Isabella Blackleaf |

I'm truly sorry to do this, but I'm going to have to take a leave of absence from the paizo forums for a while.
This year hasn't been much fun for any of us, I'm sure. And just last week, two people at my job have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
I'm not feeling ill myself, but I am having serious trouble finding the headspace to game. 'Stuff' just keeps piling up, even if it doesn't affect me directly - yet.
I'm not sure when I'll be back. Of course I hope it'll be sooner, rather than later. Please bot my character as appropriate.
Again, I'm sorry to do this; you guys are a great group to game with.

motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |

So, checking in with everyone else to see your thoughts. If everyone wants, I'm happy to continue -- I can find another player or we can continue with four.
That said, I know we've had a lot of turnover, so I want to make sure folks are still invested. If folks think it's time to let this game go by the wayside, I understand.

Vexras Voltagian |

I don't have particularly strong feelings either way. If we press onward, I'll stick with you for as long you'll have me.

Aramis Ekerton |

Sorry for the absence on our end, but we're getting back into the swing of things this week. Our posting might be shaky the first few days, but by next week we hope to be caught back up in everything and back to daily posting.
Sorry to see you go, Isabella, but I definitely understand. Wishing you all the best.
Yes, I'd like to replace and keep playing. That said, I understand my husband and I have been absent of late, so my opinion on this should probably have less weight.
