Dead Suns: Moriko's Legacy | Temple of the Twelve

Oh, I'm not concerned about snow. If it's warm enough to snow, I'll be as happy as a clam. It's the bone-cracking northern-plains cold that'll be worst. When engines start freezing and trees start exploding you know that the weather's truly gotten bad.

Game Abandoned

Yeah. I've got family that lives in the middle of North Dakota. I hear the stories. I'll pass, ThankYouVeryMuch.

I know I first mentioned this a long time ago, but don't forget that our three Castrovel natives treat the DCs of any skill checks to identify creatures or recall knowledge in or about Ukulam by 5.

Also, it may be worth noting that the rules permit you to make checks in untrained skills if the DC is 10 or less.

I don't understand Minnesota. I've been up there in late May and there was still snow. Sure it was the left over piles on the side of the road/parking lots from the snow plow, but it was still there, frozen solid. That ain't right.

/shudder

That being said, I really hope everything works out for you and I'm glad the world is full of people that aren't me.

Oh, and I'm back.

For anyone, like pithica42 (Lauren) who is playing an alien with a radically different physiology from ourselves, I recommend a book called The Sould of an Octopus, by Sy Montgomery. She spends time at aquariums interacting with octopuses and learning about them from people who have studied them.

They are remarkably intelligent and engaging creatures, and yet their physiology is about as different from mammals as can be, with the last common ancestor diverging a billion years ago. It may give some ideas on what it might be like to have different senses and to live in a watery habitat.

As for snow, I grew up in Indiana and some years there was not much snow and it melted quickly, but other years where it snowed hard and then stayed cold, so the snow was around for most of the winter. But my understanding of the far northern plains is that it is much more snow much more of the year. They have a joke that there are two seasons: 10 months of winter and two months of road repair.

On the plus side, summers are not so hot as they are most places south, although I've heard tales of swarms of mosquitoes carrying off small animals. :)

Game Abandoned

Heard that joke many times. 'Two seasons; Winter and Road Building'. That was the response when I asked why they had closable gates on the freeway on-ramps. And mosquitoes being the state bird.

I used to have to fly up 2 or 3 times a month to Minnesota at my old job. Mosquitos are definitely the state bird, at least from July-September ish.

I haven't read that book, but I've seen a couple documentaries about octapoda. They're fascinating creatures. If they didn't die immediately after giving birth, they'd probably be a competitor species to us in a few thousand generations.

I've lived near and visited MN my whole life, but I've never ventured this far north. I just checked, and my new home is father north than 2/3rds of Canadians.

My wife is very nonchalant about the whole thing. She spent her formative years in Alaska (avg. 6 ft snow/yr, Sep-Jun). She has a great story about being chased through the neighborhood by a moose on her way home from school.

I've got an online session w/ my home group tonight, but I hope to update you guys late tonight or tomorrow.

I have a close friend whose wife is from Alaska. Like way out in the middle of nowhere alone type Alaska. They moved to Georgia when she was 14 or 15. The story, according to her father, was that they had a really bad winter. The 'they were stuck inside for 4-5 months and by the end were completely out of food and eating tree bark because they couldn't get to town/find anything to kill' kind of bad winter. So as soon as spring hit and they had all eaten, he threw the family in their RV, strapped their snow-blower to the front, and left. He said he was going to drive south until he found somewhere that he wouldn't need the snow-blower. He was filling up the gas tank near Atlanta when some hick said, "What the hell is that thing?" That's why they ended up here.

Alaska is beautiful. But I couldn't imagine living there.

Have I missed anything? It's been a couple weeks now. I know you said you were busy I'm just worried I missed something.

Not that I'm aware. Either that or I've missed it as well. :)

They do if they go too long with inactivity, yes.

Life can throw curves at one. It's understandable if others here drop out. I'll be around if Jimbles comes back to pick this back up.

I've got lots of games to keep me busy until/if he does so.

I'm hopeful things can pick back up after the GM's move is completed. I trust the GM will notify us if it looks like no more posts are going to happen.

An update from Jimbles would help.
