Once the vid-clip finishes, Diedre composes herself for her response and presses the record icon. "Hello Mr. Kreel. My name is Diedre Lhashi and I want to join the Starfinders." She stabs the stop button and her shoulders slump. "Of course he knows I want to join the Starfinders. Why else would I be answering! I sound like a dingbat." The small woman shakes her head. She brushes a strand of auburn hair back behind one long ear and settles herself. "What should I say?" She smirks. "'Hello Mr. Kreel. I've spent the last three years doing tri-dee porn. Perhaps you've heard of me? 'Lana Lash and her Magic Sword'? Well now since the market's trending lashunta and no one wants to see half-elves anymore, I've decided to change careers.'" She frowns. "Yeah, that'll win him over." She looks around at the econo-room surrounding her. Most surfaces are covered with scattered clothes. Her eyes light upon the one item of non-apparel. A stainless steel dueling sword with an oddly carved bone hilt. "At least they let me keep the sword," she says sadly in a small voice. Getting up from the terminal, she wanders around the small room. "Sorry, Diedre, the market's shifting," she says in a gruff attempt at a masculine voice. "Unless you've got antenna, no one wants to see you shake your ass anymore." "Well I don't have antenna. I've got ears," she continues sadly. Reaching up, she touches one of the appendages of discussion. "But they're cute ears." She sits back down at the terminal. "You can do this, Diedre; Just tell him you're good with people." She presses the record icon again. Background:
Sarja Lhashi was a wandering singer. She would travel from city to city, planet to planet, making friends and sleeping on offered couches (and beds) wherever she could find accommodations. All she wanted to do was sing and she was reasonably skilled at it. Planning on spending a month on Castrovel in the city of Cordana, she met and bedded an inebriated mid-level elven functionary by the name of Cedron Qaspiel. Cedron, a very conservative and upright elf, was in the city for Revelnight at the urgings of coworkers who demanded that for just once he try something spontaneous. The gods take pleasure in such chance encounters and the union was productive. When she discovered that the elf had no interest whatsoever in a soon-to-be daughter, Sarja refused to even appeal to the legal recourse she had available. If he wasn't interested then that was fine with her. She would raise her child the same way she did everything else in life; entirely on her own. Although not a tremendously smart woman, Sarja knew that the gypsy life she had led up to then was no way to raise a little girl. She took a job at one of the large resort hotels in the housekeeping department and settled down to raise little Diedre. From an early age, it was enforced upon the young half-elf that she needed to put her apparent intelligence to good use. However, the older she got, the more she realized that she wasn't really any smarter than any of the other people around her. To humor her mother she enrolled in a program geared towards VR software development. She showed an apptitude for the technology and she progressed along with her peers. The one thing she didn't find was fulfillment. The year before graduation, a friend of hers approached her. Marsaya was an older girl who aspired to be a model and she hoped that Diedre could help her in coding some VR interactives. Diedre agreed. This wasn't anything new; she had helped other students mod VR games and had even designed some experiences herself. This wasn't like those, though, she was told. This wasn't for a school project; this would be a paying job. Just don't tell anyone. Diedre was initially nervous. She was worried that her friend was doing something illegal. No, it wasn't illegal, Marsaya reassured her, it was just adult entertainment. Over the next year and a half, Diedre received a heavy education into the technical and financial aspects of VR porn. She was aware, of course, of the huge market in computer generated adult experiences. Technology still stumbled into the 'Uncanny Valley', though, particularly where up-close and intimate situations arose. The big credits were still in using actual models to create the original data. With her technical assistance, her friend began to rise to the top of the field and the credits began rolling in. Along the way, she was introduced to the Bowen-Maxwell-Crgitzk'clk humanoid physical attractivity scale. This was the culmination of research that postulated that for a given humanoid species, there were objectively measurable traits that made an individual more or less physically attractive. They could be placed on a scale that ranged from 1 to a theoretical 100. This factor was heavily in use in the industry to determine pay rates, licensing fees, etc. On a drunken dare, she went through the extensive and expensive measuring procedure and found to her shock, that in the category of female half-elves, she rated a 98.45. This was quite a shock to Marsaya, who at a 89.70, pulled in a rather large income. She left the keyboard and console and began her career in front of the cameras. Diedre was a huge success. She was picked up by a distribution studio that supplied her with the best tech available to create her features. Her main draw was a series of adventures featuring 'Lana Lash', a bold mercenary exploring the galaxy, encountering beautiful and handsome beings. While her bank balance was rising, Diedre knew that her success was age and appearance dependent. She had seen many successes in the industry burn through their credits and end up 30 years old with nothing to show for it. So she transferred all ownership of her IP into a trust. With the funds that it was generating, she purchased a nightclub - The Afterimage. She put another friend of hers - a vesk named Subash 'Sketch' Tizt - in charge of the nightclub and the trust. That left her free to perform and market. The nightclub allowed Deidre the freedom to do one other thing. Sarja Lhashi now realized her dream of becoming a professional singer. Unaware that Diedre's trust owned the nightclub where she was offered a position to perform twice a week, Sarja thought it quite thoughtful of her daughter to put in a word at the place where she serves drinks. Six months ago, things changed. In a volatile market such as adult entertainment, tastes shift. The demand for her image, both licensed and bootleg, dropped. The distribution studio cancelled her contract. It reached a point where Diedre knew that the meager income the nightclub generated wouldn't be enough alone to support her, her mother, and her friend Sketch. A new career was in order. Appearance:
Standing at just under 5'7" and 135 lbs, Diedre doesn't present an imposing figure. An attractive figure, no doubt, but not imposing. She keeps her auburn hair long and neatly styled. The style changes frequently but never anything complex. Her eyes are a pale blue and are usually matched by her earrings and something in her apparel. Her curves are feminine but not exaggerated. Her apparel lately consists of a heavy brown duster over the top of cargo pants and a second-skin suit in cream and blue. She normally keeps it open enough to show some cleavage, but not enough to raise eyebrows. A ready side-arm is in her hip holster and a tactical dueling sword strapped to her back. She carries her meager possessions in a backpack emblazoned with the popular children's character, Salena the SkittermanderTM. Public Information - Culture DC 15:
Diedre Lhashi is the real-world name of the previously very popular Tri-Dee adult actress, Lana Lash. Making her first appearance in early 314 in various 'amateur' productions, her popularity rose quickly. Most well-known for the 'Lana Lash and her Magic Sword' series. With its high production values - if cheesy plots - and skilled performers, it spread through the Pact Worlds culture. Her popularity cut across racial lines. With her effusive cheeriness and positive energy, Diedre was a porn industry success story.
Markets shift, however, and 'Lana Lash and the Elf Queen' (the seventh in the series) was the first of the decline. Three months later and by early 317 Lana Lash seemed to drop off the map. With a little searching one can find Diedre's Infosphere site which contains various video blog entries, along with a paid Members Section that offers more.
