Maybe he's distracted by your striking appearance?

Liberty's Edge

@GM Lugos

I haven't rewritten Armonds story because I really like what I have so far, but I have now intertwined it with Koya and Sandru. In fact if you wanted I could even take the Burned Drawback(which would work well with my backstory) to gain an extra Campaign trait.

Also I added Cure Light Wounds to my list, for support.

What do you think?

Hey, why is everyone becoming friends with Sandru, me and him have an exclusive friendship! Lol

Just voicing interest. I had an idea about a dwarf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker). Would that be okay? If so, I should have it posted by tomorow night.

Also, this AP seems to partially aimed at npc's interactions, should we expect a lot of it from the dear GM or will this not be one of the main/special features?

May I submit Fenra Andosana-Sovark, Oracle.

Lantern Lodge

Protect Sandru's honor!

Dark Archive

By ignoring him completely!

Congratulations Ishikawa.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to the others and continue worrying about whether I'll make it into the game or not.

@hustonj: It's okay man, don't fret. There are still 4 slots left after all!

@Grantix: Yay! A worshipper of Gorum. I haven't seen one of those in ages!

@Armond: Burned is a good trait. However, with the way the interaction work, I can only readily accept one campaign trait per character.

@CelticCircle: Yes, NPC interactions, especially with the Big 4, will play a large role in the game and story.

@TexNess: I believe your Oracle can still choose one language from their racial language list due to her 12 Int.

@Lativa: Sorry, just had you in the wrong list.

Oh my she can. Thank you very much.

Has the player chosen for today been announced?

Hey, how do you feel about the separatist archetype?

Alright, at midnight (Central time) tonight I will announce the next accepted character. To make some folks stand on their toes, it will be a Shalelu-based character! The Friday Midnight choice will be for Koya, and Saturday's midnight choice will be for Sandru. At noon Saturday I will announce the fifth party member, their campaign trait will not be revealed until then.

well now that is interesting I know I will have to wait till the fifth and final choice. as that is the only category I could fall into..

@Gnick: Yes, it was Ishikawa Kaijutsu.

@Coluber: Wow! I don't think Ive ever even seen anyone mention that archetype. And yes, it is approved.

Tension hasn't been as intense since my time in hell.
*Crosses fingers...*

I think I keep posting right when you do and it gets lost in the shuffle, haha. Would a Staff Magus work better? It should be a little easier to find a teacher closer to home, at any rate :)

Argh! I have to wait till Saturday?!?! :)

Grand Lodge

Finally got him written up. Had to switch the story to Sandru aligned since Shalelu is stacked and being picked from tonight, but I had a great story for her too. Hope the backstory fills your fancy and that Kaaji can be considered. However, couple questions. Would oni be outsider(evil) or undead? Because that determines my first favored enemy. Second, I want to get a signal kite but somebody else would have to know Tengu to read it. Is it necessary to follow that? Because it seems silly to think Kaaji couldn't just tell a party member what the signal means.

Anyways, this is my submission. Let me know if there are any things that need fixed. I may switch out my scimitar for a scythe just for thematic effect.

Oni are oriental demons, they are alive as far as i know.

Grand Lodge

So was my thought, they take on flesh and bones and such. They are fallen kami spirits. It falls in a grey area, I know other GM's that have ruled them as undead for their campaigns and some say outsider.

Oni are in the Beastiary as Outsider (Native). Beastiary III, I believe.

Also, they are in the PRD, so you don't have to take my word for the public mechanics.

Well, on wikipedia Oni are mentioned in a variety of ways, but no mention of undead.

Grand Lodge

Alright, then I will switch favored enemy to Humanoid(Human) so that it can be useful and later pick up Outsider(Native)

Sovereign Court

Hmm the tension thickens.

No kidding, and eventually the tension has to loose weight as well.....

Oni are Outsider (native) and often have a subtype such as (human or giant).

@Lady Ladile: Staff Magus is perfectly acceptable. And sorry for missing you.

@Kaaji: Looks fine to me!

Grand Lodge

I was really bummed to see I missed my chance to be part of Shalelu's groupies because I wanted that student bonus. All the Survival bonuses, haha! But turns out Sandru works just as well.

Sovereign Court

Nice to see another Tengu. Galford would welcome the company.

Grand Lodge

I have been dying to find a good time to role a Tengu, yet to see one played. I try to get away from the core races, just to add more flavor to a party at the least. Especially since everybody plays humans, haven't they gotten tired of doing that for the past 18-40 years? (rough estimate)

Last minute application! I dotted like... the first day and just couldn't find the right character. I think I have him now. Rafiel is a Human (Varisian) Druid (Storm Druid... if allowed)

Background:
Rafiel grew up in the same caravan with Sandru and the two became fast friends. Also an orphan of sorts, Rafiel's parents barely paid attention to him even when they were alive. His father was an alcoholic gambler that fell ill and died in his own sick, and his mother wandered off into the night, supposedly mad.

If it hadn't been for Sandru's friendship and Mother Mvashti's guidance, Rafiel would never have lived to see adulthood, let alone find his place in the world.

Even as a child, Rafiel had always loved playing in the storms of the Varisian plains. The power and majesty of the wind and rain called to him. The freedom represented by the storms did not escape the young Varisian.

One night, by the fire, a druid came into the caravan circle to share the warmth and light. Before the night was over, Rafiel had made the woman promise to be his teacher in the way of druidcraft. She saw the promise within him, even if it was a different promise than her own.

Now, an adult, Rafiel uses his gift with storms to help prepare local farmers from inclement weather. He still stops by Sandpoint every now and then to check on Sandru and make sure his old friend is well.

Personality:

Rafiel is just as tempestuous as the storms he loves so much. While he claims that his druidic lore has made him this way, the truth is that the apple didn't fall that far from the tree. He still can't, to this day, drink alcohol for fear that he'll turn into his father.

Still, no one can hang around Sandru Vhiski for too long without being at least a little bit charming and Rafiel is no exception.

@Rafiel: Storm druids are fine. Thank you for your submission.

Four hours to go! If you have any last submissions for a Shalelu campaign traited character, get them in ASAP or you'll have to wait until Saturday to see if you are Player 5!

Greetings strangers, may your spirits guide you well.

My name is Tharjuk of the Shundar-Quah, and I am blessed by Immonhiel, the Balm-Bringer, with the divine gift of healing. I heard that a great undertaking is being prepared here, and although being late to the necessary prayers and preparations, I would like to humbly apply for consideration. Let me recite the songs of my tribe and show you the lines of my tattoos, so you may judge my worthiness.

Appearance:

Tharjuk is a handsome young man with gray eyes, dark skin, and long black hair. He is lean and hardy, but not as fast and strong as most of his kin. What he lacks in physical strength, he compensates with his charming and sociable personality. Intricate tribal tattoos are visible on his arms and breast, telling his personal story in the way of the Shundar-Quah.

Origin:

Tharjuk was born as the only son of a Shundar-Quah hunter. As a result, his father had high expectations of him, only to be greatly disappointed by his son's lack of physical strength. Tharjuk wasn't clumsy, and he certainly learned to find his way in the wilderness, but a warrior he was not. And so Tharjuk was left behind time and again when the sages and warriors of his clan went out to judge a dispute or chronicle a feud between the other Shoanti clans.

One of the old men, Chedhi, began to take care of Tharjuk during these times, and he tought the boy the ways of the spirit totems and the art of healing. Soon, Tharjuk got a reputation for having a blessing touch and became a respectable healer, but his father still looked at him with disappointment.

But the Shoanti life is brutal, and even the Shundar-Quah have to fight their battles. Tharjuk began to travel alongside the warriors, to provide first aid during and after battle. When he was caught within a real battle for the first time, he wavered, scared out of his mind. Surrounded by the sound of the dying and the smell of death, his talents failed him. He almost ran in shame, leaving his tribesmen behind, had he not seen a mysterious old woman appearing on the battlefield. With a divine touch, she brought release to the suffering and restored health within the wounded. When she reached Tharjuk, she touched him on the head, and his mind was filled with awe. Then she vanished, like a spirit in the wind.

With a regained vigor he had never felt before, Tharjuk continued what the mysterious woman had started and returned home with many survivors, although it seemed that his newfound spirit came at a cost, as he was somehow slower on his feet then before. Upon his description of what had happened, the elders recited the old songs and read within the signs of the shaman's oracle until it was clear that Tharjuk had witnessed Immonhiel the Balm-Bringer, a mighty spirit, coming down from the celestial battlefields. She became Tharjuk's patron, and he dedicated his profession as healer to her name.

Sandpoint:

During a long trip across Varisia, Tharjuk and his fellow tribesmen rested shortly in Sandpoint. A huge gathering of the Shoanti was threatened by a petty feud between two war-chiefs, and the Shundar-Quah wanted to resolve the issue with diplomacy rather than greataxes.

During his stay, Tharjuk befriended an old woman named Koya. Her mother had just passed away, a fact that amazed Tharjuk quite a bit considering that, from his point of view, Koya herself was an elder. But he tried to console her, telling of the living spirits in every thing. It was then that Koya smiled and revealed to him her devotion to Desna. Tharjuk in return told her of Immonhiel and his epiphany, and he asked Koya many questions about Desna's nature, intent on proving that she had to be a spirit of nature. They talked for hours.

When Tharjuk had to leave, Koya followed his group, inspired by his stories to make a little trip of her own to take her mind off things for a while. To her great surprise, she found the Shoanti men only a few miles outside of Sandpoint, most of them dead. Warriors send by one of the troublesome war-chiefs had intercepted the Shundar-Quah legation with an ambush. Koya rushed to help the dying men, but she could only save three of them, one being Karjuk, whom she barely stopped from entering the afterlife.

The two other Shoanti left Sandpoint in a rage, to bring their elders news of death and betrayal. Only Tharjuk stayed behind, tired of yet another upcoming clan war and the shedding of blood. He often visited Koya, thankful for his timely rescue, and their talks gave both of them a little comfort in their individual melancholy. Days turned into weeks, and with time Tharjuk became his old self again – except that his thoughts now turned to the realms beyond Varisia.

Character:

Tharjuk has a charming and engaging personality. He seems to have a knack when talking to other people, no matter their background or profession, that goes beyond his good looks. In this way, he embodies one of his tribe's ideals.

Maybe due to his profession, which forces him to deal with death and disease on a constant basis, he has developed a dry, sarcastic humor, but he enjoys a good joke and he never knowingly insults other people's beliefs.

Although he absolutely believes in Immonhiel, the Balm-Bringer, Tharjuk sometimes questions the usefulness of his profession, giving that violence and bloodshed never seems to end. During these moments, he feels powerless and self-delusional. It never lasts, and the day might never come that Tharjuk really breaks with his beliefs, but it is something he is carrying in his mind.

Alternative Racial Trait:

Heart of the Wilderness: Humans raised in the wild learn the hard way that only the strong survive. They gain a bonus equal to half their character level on Survival checks. They also gain a +5 bonus on Constitution checks to stabilize when dying and add half their character level to their Constitution score when determining the negative hit point total necessary to kill them. This racial trait replaces the skilled racial trait.

Traits:

Rescued: At some point in the past, you had a terrifyingly close brush with death. Whatever the peril was, you would have certainly died if not for the swift actions of Koya or Shalelu, who intervened just in time to save your life. You’ve never forgotten this, and remain fiercely loyal to the NPC who saved you. If Koya saved you, she did so by casting a healing spell on you just before you died, and as a result you gain a +2 trait bonus whenever you use cure spells to heal damage. In addition, you gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls against foes that threaten your savior.

Focused Mind: Your childhood was dominated either by lessons of some sort (whether musical, academic, or other) or by a horrible home life that encouraged your ability to block out distractions and focus on the immediate task at hand. You gain a +2 trait bonus on concentration checks.

Revelations:

Channel (Su): You can channel positive energy like a cleric, using your oracle level as your effective cleric level when determining the amount of damage healed (or caused to undead) and the DC. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier.

Spirit Boost (Su): Whenever your healing spells heal a target up to its maximum hit points, any excess points persist for 1 round per level as temporary hit points (up to a maximum number of temporary hit points equal to your oracle level).

In plain English: Human Oracle (Life) with Koya-related campaign trait would like to apply for a slot.
I am still thinking of a way to give him Shoanti as a second language, most likely be reassigning a skill rank, but the rest is final :)
EDIT: I know Empyreal Lords might be a bit exotic for a Shoanti, but I'd really like to try something new. If inappropriate, I can revert to a more traditional spirit totem.

For most of the first half of the (I don't have to estimate) 35 years that I've been playing, I didn't play humans because they were too mundane. Some of my human characters are mundane. Most are far more memorable.

Boring and overdone is about the player, not the character race. And it is far easier to do boring and overdone while trying to be exotic than it is when trying to be, well, human.

Submitting Amber Irdait, human staff magus for approval. Koya-related trait; crunch and fluff are in the profile. Let me know if there's any questions or problems :)

Just wondering if the family ties drawback would be okay. Since it is aimed at family, I would suggest changing so that it is aimed at the 4 major nps and/or player characters

Family ties:
When a family member makes a request of you, you must fulfill that request or take a –2 penalty on all Wisdom- and Charisma-based ability checks and skill checks until you either do what was requested or succeed at a DC 20 Will saving throw, which you can attempt once per day at the start of each day. You can’t take this drawback if you have no family. If you ever lose your family or lose contact with your family, exchange this drawback for the Doubtdrawback.

@Tharjuk: Interesting concept. An Empyreal Lord worshipping Shoanti that isn't a barbarian/ranger/druid/witch. And Koya focus as well! Thank you for your submission.

@Amber: Everything seems to check out. Nice background (a real tug-at-your-heartstrings sort). And a follower of Ragathiel? Just curious, is she Chelaxian, Taldan, or Varisian?

@TheCelticCircle: Seems fine as long as you take a campaign trait that makes you a blood or adopted relative to one of the Big 4.

Two more hours, folks, until Shalelu gets a buddy!

GM Lugos wrote:

Hummm, would family friend count... I was thinking of making the character extremely loyal to family and FRIENDS and applying the trait to the other PCs in the long run.

Well... I really shouldn't... But it is a unique concept and not that broken...

Tell you what, I roll a 1d10. If it rolls a 10, then yes.

DA ROLE: 1d10 ⇒ 8

Sorry, man. Real or adopted family for the trait. Still, it was an interesting take on the drawback!

Just be glad they don't have a critical hit/miss deck function!

Upon hearing the words of the strict but fair gm Avan jumps back and cowers behind the other potential players.

Hmm...she would likely be of Cheliax descent, with her family having migrated to Varisia at some point in the past. Hopefully worshiping Ragathiel isn't too much of a stretch as he seemed most likely to resonate with Amber at this point of her life.

Actually, it fits your character well! Sure, they may not use Ragathiel's chosen weapon, but the whole duty and vengeance portfolio of theirs fits well with your background.

Alright, this was a really, REALLY hard choice. So many good characters want to be friends with Shalelu. But, a choice had to be made, so I had the unenviable position of choosing from such a solid list of characters. With much difficulty, and a lot of "am I certain?" moments, I finally have chosen a character.

Thursday's Choice, Shalelu:

Looks like Shalelu will be adventuring with her sister, Fenra Andosana-Sovark. As stated, this was beyond difficult (nightmare mode?) in choosing.

For those of you who have Shalelu as your campaign traits choice and were not picked, fear not for Saturday and a second chance awaits!

And with that, I now add a new feature to this already difficult selection process: Re-entry with new characters! If you feel your character is unlikely to succeed in getting picked, go ahead and roll another and plaster them here. Don't post with them, just link to their page, that way if they are not chosen, you can delete them and never worry about that awful feeling of "what-if?"

This is to allow players (you) to increase your chances and hopefully introduce new and exiting character concepts for consideration!

Congratulations Fenra.

With that my chances of getting into the game have plummeted so far down, I think its way past rock bottom, not giving up hope yet but if you'll execuse me for a few moments there is a looking for a jade regent game thread that needs bumping.

@GM Lugos That last feature while kind is realy not helping my optimism ;)
