The thing is that spells are usually measured at the initiative of the caster, so they wear off simultaneously for all targets once it's your turn again.
Ruling that this isn't true in the suprise round would lead to quite a few problems, for example that anyone actually going before you in the initiative would then loose 2 rounds. Also it could, depending on where the inis stand to each other, lead to people getting more than one round on him with the stunned condition. And stunned is pretty much autohit, which alone kinda warrants the spell usage.

Also, with a +9 ini, he is actually quite likely to come before you.

But if you want to change your actions because you forgot to take this into account, feel free to do so.

Nah it's fine, I just find it odd even saying that as other games I've played (i.e. not pathfinder) with same initiative rules don't have that problem but I don't mind running it like that.

Not to clutter up the thread with more OOC stuff. Yea I was just slowing him down so we can catch up, or that was the aim anyway. Dayum his reflex save is 18?! Okay ignore me for the rest of the fight as no-way I can force him to fail a save with it being that high. Just assume I'm full defending, I'll post an action or two if I get attacked or the situation changes.

all of my saves together aren't that high lol


Reflex is his strong save, sadly all the advancements I gave him had strong ref saves + he has over 20 Dex.
But his will for example is far lower.

He is btw quickly running out of invisibility.

It's fine, I just have no way to make him fail a reflex save what with my highest DC save being 18? So I'm kind of stuck doing nothing as grease will do nothing as well. Consider the DC of that is 16 and his save is ABOVE that. (Out of curiousity what CR is he?)

@Teller: Actually Bodyguard grants a+4 bonus to AC due to the helpful trait.

@Marlon: By doing something about the mooks I block you all getting to Kikino which is why I used the spell on Kikino. That failed tremendously as I can't affect him. So I'm fine sitting out of the fight since I don't have the feats to support crossbow fighting or using rays at the minute. All of those attacks will be at tremendous negatives, I'll just full defense till we get out of here.

A common and arguable loophole is using 'arcane mark' to get a free attack off with the magus, Zorro style

*Nods* I had read that tactic on the boards and, given Big-nose' level didn't think it would be too far over the top to give it a try.

Eventually, I intend to use the feat that changes 'Ray' to 'touch' and just do minor acid/cold/what ever that o Lvl cantrip is damage with the sword.

I never said you can't have more than one attack, there are a few ways. Just wanted to know how you got it.
When you use Aracane Mark this way, please remember the concentration check for casting defensively, the -2 to all attacks and to leave a mark.

Using "Close Range" only for catrips is not really that useful though. You are spending more or less a feat for on average 2 damage on one attack per round and only if in rounds that you don't use any of your "real" spells. That's a freaking bad trade.
If you want to get that arcana for some other reason, then you can surely use it with ray of frost (acid orb does not work btw). But getting it only for that is a waste.
