Dolgrym takes a swing at the orc and then moves back. He shouts out in dwarven, "Fall back to the second barricade. There are 9 more coming! Augier can you take out this one from range?"

"Omast, are we able to gain entry to the tower to lower the portculis?" Tegnar says as he hears that 9 more orcs are coming and tries to figure out a way to defeat them.


The longhammer misses. Yarask stands with his weapon, not happy at all.

The orc shoots at Omast.

Just before the orcs arrive, Omast tries to take out the archer.

The enchanted sword leaves the orc archer bleeding. Before the orc falls, she puts an arrow into Omast's neck. Omast retaliates, but his aim is off and he runs with a massive bleeding neck wound and tosses the arrow to the ground in disgust with chunks of neck tissue as her runs. As Omast runs back to the barricade at full speed, he yells "I hope that healing potion was tasty--it was my last. Who wants to live forever!!" The tower gate is destroyed, there is no blocking the way in.

The battle is a close one as the horde of orcs begin to close in.

You all have one round of actions before the orcs arrive--Omast took a double move. A grease can be readied, but watch the range. It is not the longest of spells. I will roll for initiative soon. Remember your healing potions. Dolgrym may want to use the wand on himself or Yarask this round after a move--he did a 20 foot move last round.

Ok, let's try to use some strategy: what are every one's hp? Yarask is at 15 hp, but everyone else? Omast despite being drunk has proven pretty useful, I'd try to keep him alive if possible. Also grease seems like an optimal solution against a group of orcs, move/cast maybe. I suggest we heal as much as possible and move back, Augier readies grease to cast when the orcs reach the portcullis, and we all hope our rolls get suddenly better (don't forget the racial modifier!)


We still have the second barricade, so casting at a chokepoint and then letting them pile up sounds workable. Augier also has two CLW potions, a grease spell and a sleep spell

"We need to get behind that barricade then heal up. Everyone run for it!"

I'm at 10 hp so I'll need to use that wand on me then I can on anyone else before the orcs get here. I would say grease the portcullis area now, but he'd have to move forward to do it but it's the only way to force the orcs through it.

Then we do it like this: Dolgrym cures himself and moves back, I move back, Tegnar moves back, HOPEFULLY Omast moves back (give him a potion if possible Augier, should be a good investment and he just took 25 hp of damage), Augier move back and ready grease for when they approach enough for us to countercharge, it should take them a couple of rounds before they can reach us, so we should have more opportunity to heal. And GM, stop rolling 20s... ;P


Dolgrym has move and a full round action (move+heal) from where I placed him as he swung at the orc one and a half rounds before the orcs appear. He had exactly a two round head start on them before his attack action.


Augier holds out one of his remaining clw potions. Drink this healing potion, Omast!

Tegnar shakes his head. "Then I don't think that will be of much use in this open area. Once they have reached us, try to put as many to sleep as you can then."

Tegnar pulls a potion of CLW out of his belt pouch and drinks it.

He then readies his longspear for an attack.Not sure if I have time for this too, but just in case ...

Tegnar takes a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself. He has already lost too many clansmen in this town, and doesn't want to lose any more.

"We need to stick together if we are going to survive. If they throw another bomb and destroy the barricade, I think we should retreat further through the smoke. Then we can try to gang up on them as they come out."

Tegnar finishes off his potion and tosses the empty bottle aside. It will have to do. I hope we get reinforcements. With the way these orcs won't die, I'm not sure how we are going to defend against 9 of them.


The orcs advance. One stays back to loot the body of the archer.

The orcs split up into two groups. The orcs are unable to close the distance to the second barricade yet.

I just found it better to make contingency rolls one round deals. Just as in our home game all dice off the table get rerolled.

The orcs attack the barricade, and Tegnar drops one immediately as Omast and Yarask fail to connect. Dolgrym was healing.

Yarask dodges two blows from axes, but Omast takes a shot to the groin, and once again blood spurts profusely from a critical blow from a deadly axe. He barely stays conscious, gritting his teeth.

The magic washes over the orcs, and one orc falls asleep by Yarask. Three orcs manage to climb over the improvised barricade.

Yarask drops his longspear and swings his greatsword instead, then he takes a few paces back preparing to hold against the other 2 orcs nearby!

Free action to drop longspear, move action to draw greatsword, standard action to attack the orc in front of Yarask, then 5 foot step back, leaving the unconscious orc be for now, he should be on the other side of the barricade so no friendlies to wake him up nearby.

Edit: 3 questions, how did 3 orcs out of four pass their DC 13 save if they rolled 11, 13, 19, 8? Do they have positive will saves modifiers? Also, did grease get cast having no effect or has Augier kept it? No attack of opportunity for us when the orcs try to scale the barricade

Re-edit: Yarask got a +1 racial bonus to hit orcs, so his readied attack roll result should have been 13 and not 12. It's a pretty minor difference but I just wanted to point this out in case it's needed afertwards

I made a few mistakes posting late last night.

Three orcs near Yarask fall asleep. He attacks and leaves staggered the only one on his side. Staggered, the orc manages to rouse his companion before passing out. The orc that looted the archer rushes to rouse another sleeping orc. On the right side, the wizard jabs an orc, and Omast hits that orc and another orc leaving them staggered.

Omast:

The orcs, sliced open by Omast's sword, swing battle axes at him. One barely misses clipping Omast in the neck, and blood spurts from another massive wound as the orc still lands a nasty blow. Omast spits blood on both corpses as he seems barely able to stand. Then another orc hits him, barely missing a vital area and drops Omast to the ground. The recently awakened orc tries to hit Yarask from the ground and misses.

Yarask looks like he can use some help facing three awake orcs, one of which is prone at his feet, and a sleeping orc, and the orc threat on the right flank has been completely taken care of. Omast begins to bleed out on the ground. Some of the townspeople have come to watch from a distance, and they cry out as Omast falls. Seeing the guard leader on the ground seems to be badly shaking them. "NO!! Omast is down!!"

Seems like the orcs are rolling a lot of twenties with their axes. One orc is sleeping with an S on him.

"I've got Omast! Go help Yarask!" Dolgrym uses the wand on Omast and drops the useless stick to the ground. He then readies his longhammer for action.

I'm feeling like a medic and not a ranger. I think we need to do something to get a cleric in the group.

Yarask keeps his eyes on the orcs in front of him and slashes again. The dwarf feels the strong urge to go into a berserker rage against the orcs but somehow he manages to keep himself in check.

Attack the Orc on the south of the map then 5 foot step keeping adjacent to the orc on Yarask's right, which I hope is the prone one

Omast regains consciousness, coughing up blood. Yarask strikes, but a shield deflects his blow.

Omast gets up and grabs his weapon. "Let me get the curs!!"

The timely spell of the wizard clouds the mind of the orc before he can hit Yarask with a flanking blow.

The prone orc slices from the ground and cuts Yarask with a devastating uppercut from his axe (11 slashing). The other orc by the barricade wakes his sleeping companion, who struggles to his feet with his weapon.

Yarask hits the prone orc, staggering him. The wizard hits the orc advancing a slight wound.

How many orcs are still alive? Yarask killed the prone one, Omast killed another, three on the map now, near Yarask. AT this point I'll burn a round of rage trying to get those two out otherwise things may really get difficult (and let's hope I roll well

Yarask finally let's go of his rage, drops his sword on the ground and unleashes two powerful claw attack aimed at the throats of the two orcs opposing him!

Yarask at 15 hp (11 normal + 4 temporary), full attack then 5 foot step back (I already moved Yarask back on the map after attacking)


And Yarask staggers two orcs with his rage. Had they been human, they would be completely incapacitated. But the rage of their feral kind keeps them fighting.

Yarask dropped the prone one and staggered him, put orcish ferocity has him still fighting. All three are now staggered (at negative or zero hps)

"Another wave brothers, let's finish these off quickly."

He then attacks with his longhammer the one closest to Omast.

Omast steps up, and uses the flat of his sword to attempt to move the orc. The movement triggers a violent hammer blow and claw from the barbarian and ranger.

The last orc barely misses the raging barbarian before going down in a bloody heap as Omast once again moves him past the gauntlet of death, and the group tears him to pieces.

As Omast wipes the blood from his brow he points to three orcs with strange looking weapons and an orc leading a huge monitor lizard through the gate.

Omast nods and warns you: "Those are shotels, some of the local tribesmen use them to foul your shields."
