Dolgrym sits down and sighs. "That was rough. Let's gather all this up and see if there are any healing potions on the orcs."

Augier addresses the boy. You aheva good throwing arm? Tossen these will really take the fight out of any orcs.

It appears had no more than the three healing potions they drank during the fight.

One of the men with a broken arm adds: "The giant is moving with two orcs directing his arms. It appears the tore a hole into the side of the hill near the Hopespring. A bunch of orcs went inside in an obvious hurry."

Tegnar grabs a bow and quiver of arrows. He struggles with the bow as he tries to draw the string. "Damn, I still haven't regained my strength, but this will have to do. Augie, do you want my crossbow? I have 5 bolts left and there should be 4 more lying around here somewhere."

If he wants it, I will try to retrieve bolts.

What is the elevation difference between where we are and where the giant is? Also, can we see the hole they made in the hill?

I'd like to know about the range and cover modifiers from where Yarask stands. Does the giant have cover? How long before he can reach us? What kind of terrain between us and him? Do we need climb checks? Does he?

The giant has hard cover now. Each square is five feet, and there is normal terrain in the middle. Water requires a swim check to navigate. You doubt he can reach you in a single turn.

You all know giants have been known to throw rocks accurately at quite a distance.

Going in hth with a giant doesn't seem like the best of options considering our low health but the hit chance from here doesn't seem great either... So let's advance on it while shooting

Yarask shoots an arrow at the giant and moves into the water preparing himself for the fight of his life.

Swim rules:

Make a Swim check once per round while you are in the water. Success means you may swim at up to half your speed (as a full-round action) or at a quarter of your speed (as a move action). If you fail by 4 or less, you make no progress. If you fail by 5 or more, you go underwater.

If you are underwater, either because you failed a Swim check or because you are swimming underwater intentionally, you must hold your breath. You can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to twice your Constitution score, but only if you do nothing other than take move actions or free actions. If you take a standard action or a full-round action (such as making an attack), the remainder of the duration for which you can hold your breath is reduced by 1 round. (Effectively, a character in combat can hold his breath only half as long as normal.) After that period of time, you must make a DC 10 Constitution check every round to continue holding your breath. Each round, the DC for that check increases by 1. If you fail the Constitution check, you begin to drown.

Swim DC
Calm water 10

Half speed in water is the best you can do with a DC 10 Swim check.

Yarask fires an arrow, and it clatters off the tower. The giant's handlers, two orcs, seem to be helping to control his arms. The giant picks up a rock and throws it at Othdan. The rock smashes off the boy and spins him around. Barely able to maintain consciousness, the boy stays on his feet

Are we able to see the orcs handling the giant? If so, I'll fire at them.

"Dolgrym, why don't you and I try to move up behind the tower so we can get closer. I don't want to stand out here and get picked off by boulders flying through the air. Hopefully, we can draw him out from behind the tower so all of us can get better shots as we move in," Tegnar says as he begins to move to the east towards the edge of town. He keeps his eye on the tower, ready to fire if the giant or an orc shows themselves.

Although it may have been prudent to stay behind cover, the giant is enraged and rushed out to attack. As he moves out of cover, Tegnar shoots one of the orcs on his arms, and only due to massive orcish ferocity does it even stay conscious. The orc is staggered and barely hangs on as they giant charges out.

The giant is swinging massive chains. He seems to be enraged, taking less concern for protecting himself. He lets his rock drop to the ground as he closes. Looking at his height, he can probably wade the hope spring if we wants.

Combat Over -- Level up to 3

Kurst, Rodrik's brother, approaches with a bunch of cheering townsfolk.

"A bunch of tracks lead into that cave. The orcs seemed desperate to get in there. This attack may have been a part of a greater scheme. Tomorrow after a good rest, maybe you can check it out?"

The chief priest seeks you out too. "We depleted our healing in the attack. Come by tomorrow and we will restore you to fighting form. Omast told me if I charged you, to send the bill to the town. So, I guess the healing is no charge to you. You have seemed reluctant to pay for healing services in the past."

If so, and these orcs that went inside the cave are what's left of the invaders they are trapped. I don't think we are in fighting form anymore and you..." Yarask points at Augier "You can't cast anything anymore, am I right? No... unless there's proof we need to brave the cavern here and now I think it wise for us to rest and heal. We'll get these last orcs come tomorrow. Just guard this exit and make sure no one leaves and tomorrow they die!"

Then Yarask turns to Kurst asking:"Do you know what tribe these sad buggers were from? I like to know who my enemies are... in detail"

Tegnar lets out an audible sigh of relief as the giant goes down. Only when the adrenalin from the fight subsides does he feel the pain from his wounds.

"I agree with Yarask. We are in no condition to continue. Is there anything of value on the giant or his handlers?" he asks as he moves over to search them.

Looking at the priest after the mention of healing, he says "Yes, thank you. We can definitely use some healing. We too have used up all of our potions. Also, I'm afraid I am still suffering from weakness from the rat bite. While I'm sure a good night's rest will help, I don't know if I will be completely recovered. Are you able to take care of that also. Since it is more than just the simple healing of wounds, I would be willing to contribute something for the services."
