About Yarask of House Dace

Background:
Yarask hails from Setstones, a small minerary village once hidden in a small valley right at the Mindspin mountains' feet where they border with the Hold of Belkzen. His was a family of wealthy dwarves, the owners of the local copper and iron mines and he was their spoiled only child. Yarask's early life was one of privilege. As a member of the most powerful and influential family in Setstone he didin't want for anything as he was destined to inherit the family's wealth, yet his parents worried about him being fit for the role, for Yarask proved good at military endeavours yet woefully inadequate at managing the family's business.
He was given the best tutors his family money could pay for, yet he never raised to his parents expectations. Numbers and calculations meant nothing for Yarask, all he cared for was drinking, fighting and having fun.
Desperate his father decided for one last ditch attempt to salvage his son's future: he packed him up and sent Yarask to Janderhoff to a family friend who supervised House Dask's interests in the city, hoping the new and more cosmopolitan environment could help turn his son from an illiterate drunkard to a dutiful and considerate businessman. It was a desperate idea and all it did was providing Yarask for a lot more opportunities to indulge his vices.

Back in Setstones things were going on as anyone would expect from a small village prospering from minerary extraction and trade, yet catastrophe was waiting. A raiding party of Frost Giants had discovered Setstones location and noticed its wealth. The village was well defended, but the giants were cunning and had the element of surprise. They waited for one dark and cloudy night so the moon could not betray their advance and used frost magics to snuff out Setstones signaling fires and then fell on the unaware citizen. It was a massacre and just a small number of survivors were able to excape with their lives and reach Janderhoff. Their sad tale hit Yarask like a stone mallet in the stomach. He had been carousing and squandering money while his whole family was being murdered and his home destroyed. He had squandered his family legacy and now he alone lived despite his obvious unworthiness. These thoughts and the gult almost drove Yarask mad, the only thing helping him to keep a semblance of sanity the overwhelming desire for vengance. So, 3 days after the news of the fate of Setstones reached him, Yarask left Janderhoff. First he reached the ruins of Setstones and gave the corpses he could find a decent burial. Then he started hunting the marauding beasts who were responsible for the massacre. Unfortunately Yarask wasn't well versed in the art of tracking and he was never able to find the proper trail. Instead he got lost and soon he had to prove his mettle against the many dangers lurking in Belkzen. Months of fruitless hunting and aimless wandering ensued, until the exahusted dwarf noticed in the distance what he mistook for his quarry, a group of giant humanoids marching through the desertic landscape. Bellowing with rage, with no conscious thought in his mind besides bathing in the blood of his enemies, Yarask charged down the slope he was staying on and engaged the enemy. He didn't even realize what he was charging were ogres and not frost giants, yet the battle soon turned against him, he was grievously wounded and would have doubtless ended his days as an ogre's main dish if not for a passing patrol from Trunau who joined the fray and managed to send teh ogres packing. Yarask was brought to the village were he received treatment. For a time it was unclear if he could survive his wounds, then his conditions started to improve and in a couple of weeks he was back on his feet. Yet Yarask was a changed dwarf for he marvelled at Trunau and it's simple efficency. He was indebted to the town, but besides that he felt a kinship with the villagers he had never felt his whole life, even in Setstones. Freezing cold hate and burning hot need for revenge. These had been the two forces driving Yarask's life. Yet in Trunau he found something he didn't think he could find anymore: peace and sense of belonging. Despite being sworn to vengance against giants and their ilk, in the small human village Yarask found something he valued, an home like the one he lost due to his incompetence. A mistake he has no intention of repeating ever again.

Personality:
Yarask used to be the opposite of the usual stern and gruff dwarwen stereotype. He was congenial and friendly, always ready to share a drink. After the Setstone's massacre he's changed and his demeanor has become morose and almost obsessive. He's become taciturn and morose. Almost obsessed with revenge on the giants who destroyed his town. Trunau has added a new flavour to the mix, though. He's not just seeking death and revenge anymore, but he also believes in fighting to preserve a town he deeply admires for the kinship and selflessness of its inhabitants. He feels indebted to them and compelled to defend the village, so that the fate of Setstones does not repeat itself with Trunau. Yarask is ESTJ - The Guardian

Description:
Yarask is of average height and built for a dwarf, and as most of his fellows he's also muscular with his very thick arms and torso being his most impressive feature.
His hair and beard are dark brown as are his eyes. While he used to wear a long and well groomed beard he now prefers to keep it cropped short for pratical reasons. He wears his old armor and fights with his trusted earthbreaker, and they are never kept far from his person.
