Dolgrym gets to the top and tries to stay out of sight of the orcs so he can surprise them when his friends charge.

Dolgrym is at the summit, forty feet up and twenty feet laterally from the catapult. Two rounds of climbing can get him down by the orcs or an acrobatic slide down the rocks would be quite risky. He is quite sure his climb to the top has been noticed by the orcs.

The orcs prepare as the dwarves rush to the rocks, not the least bit of stealth involved. One orc drinks a healing potion.

I guess they prepared attacks in advance so let's not give them the pleasure of butchering me when I charge them... XD

Yarask moves away from the rock and behind the barricade, bow in hand he stops when he sees the orcs and lets an arrow fly towards them once again.

Move back 6'' then attack the orc on top of their column, shich should be the only one I can see from where I moved, also Dolgrym try to attract their attention please

Two orcs fire at Dolgrym as he crests the hill.

The orc, wounded at the rear, fires at Yarask missing.

Emboldened by his previous success Yarask fires again at the same target.

These orcs are though. Between Yarask, Tegnar and Dolgrym he took something like 22 dmg and he's still standing. I suppose we have better keep our distance...

Yarask misses, but Dolgrym and Tegnar bring the orc down. He is definitely dead.

The two remaining orcs fire at Yarask. Two arrows hit (12 damage) and Yarask is badly wounded.

I got hit for 26, that put me to -15 since I had taken some damage before

I don't have access to map ATM. If I am able to reach orcs by a move or charge if I have to, I will drop my show and draw my axe to do so. Otherwise I will move closer and fire again.

Tegnar takes his axe and moves to engage the orcs. His axe blow is wide.

Othdan charges and attacks from the flank the same orc. His dagger blow is wide.

An orc grabs Tegnar, but misses. An orc grabs Othdan and begins to move him into the catapult. It appears they want to fire Othdan into the city.

Tegnar moved drawing his axe and attacked, Dolgrym is one DC 10 climb or acrobatics from using a move action to be next to the orc closest to the rocks.

The battle is desperate as the orcs result to fighting with their hands.

Yarask hits an orc, wounding him greatly as the wizard misses with his projected weapon.

Othdan tries to strike while grabbed.

He is unable to break the hold of the orc grabbing him.

Both orcs are hurt, but none of them seem to have slowed down.

Didn't consider drawing weapon with climbing, but I guess it is movement.

I believe that unless the orcs have the improved grapple feat, the attempt provokes an AoO.

AoO: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9

If the one attacking me is not down, I will move around Yarask, which provokes an AoO from orc (+4 to AC due to mobility), and attack the orc grappled with Othdan.

Seeing the orc try to place Othdan in the catapult, Tegnar circles around Yarask to try to save him.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4


Tegnar tries to escape from the one after him. Dolgrym hits and staggers the orc after Tegnar as Yarask hits him too.
Grapple AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 +4 to CMB
Tegnar is grappled as he moves to help Othdan by the badly mauled orc (staggered). The orc tries to move Tegnar into the catapult!!
CM to avoid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Tegnar avoids being moved into the catapult, but is held firmly by his assailant. The other orc manages to push Othdan into the basket.

one last escape artist: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
As the orc fires the catapult, Othdan manages to squirm out at the last minute, narrowly avoiding being hurled into Trunau as a projectile.

Dwarves up again -- Tegnar Grappled
The two orcs are in desperate shape, the one near Othdan has only suffered a nasty hopeknife cut from the boy as he fights for his survival. The orc near Tegnar has been hit and barely stands. The grappling skill of the orcs is quite amazing. They seem to be smeared with some grease to make it hard for anyone to grab them.

"Goodbye orc scum!" says Yarask attacking the orc holding Tegnar.

Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
Damage roll: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8


The orc holding Tegnar falls motionless, very dead, after hit by spear and hammer.

Tegnar/Othdan: 2d20 ⇒ (12, 20) = 32

Othdan and Tegnar finish off the last orc--Othdan sticking his hopeknife into the orc with an overhand throw.

disable: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Othdan is unable to disable the catapult.

Combat over

A valuable cache of alchemical bombs is discovered nearby.

Can we destroy the catapult instead?

"I say we sunder this thing. We can't allow it to keep threatening Trunau!" proclaims Yarask limping towards the siege engine sword in hand.


We can use these bombs to wreck it!

"That was too close. Othdan,does Ruby want us to destroy the catapult or capture it? We also have a giant to deal with. Are there any potions left or were the orcs able to use them up? I'll take one of those bows though and some arrows." Tegnar says.


There are two light healing potions(clw) left


The cache has an alchemists lab, three bags of flash powder, six fuse grenades, a cold iron pellet grenade, and an adamantite pellet grenade.

The orcs between them have three +3 STR composite shortbows, 3 quivers with 20 arrows each, and three suits of studded leather armor.

A single fuse grenade destroys the catapult, leaving you five of them.

The people of the town run out. Ruby smiles and tells you:

"The giant is rampaging. Inspired by your stand, many surged to attack the giant, and we took some heavy losses. We rallied and took out some beasts, beast handlers, and a few orcs. But the giant overwhelmed us and is rampaging at the Hope Springs. I withdrew when it was clear we weren't going to stop it. Hopefully you can finish the job."

You have accumulated a significant number of town resolve, almost the maximum you could get. I think you missed a few by not directing the townsfolks to the longhouse, but the giant is significantly weakened by the loss of the above forces.

The healers manage to put on some salve for your wounds. (Anyone wounded recovers 1hp).

One encounter between you and level 3


We should use these grenades to help take out the giant, we're pretty bashed up after that battle.


Othdan points out six more alchemists fires nearby too. The boy is unable to adequately draw one of the bows, and passes it on. "You dwarves sure are strong."
