Boram the Burglar |
in the first room
I don't think that's the original sword As Boram holds his candle so the can look at the statue of the lady he sees how loose the sword is and adds "I do not think it is the original sword, but it may be smart to leave it if we are going to spring our trap here. If we are springing out trap up stairs we should take it with us."
GM Tribute wrote:... and a small chest and decrepit bookshelf face one another from opposite walls.
as Boram is following Dvalin
Boram, following behind Dvalin, keeping his candle shuttered to not give of excess light, seeing the room with the granite emblem of a faded gold and white longsword, using his candle he quickly walks around the room, Inspecting the shelf [dice=perception]1d20+7 when he sees the trunk his eyes light up and whispers to Dvalin, we will need to come back here and open that one up, right?"
GM Tribute wrote:...The opened door reveals a rubble strewn cave that he identifies as the bottom of the unstable floor up top...
Boram follows Dvalin into the rubble strewn cave and takes a quick look around [dice=perception]1d20+7 and then asks Dvalin smiling; "Shall we go open the doors or go back and open the little chest?
GM Tribute, in discussion you said no one explored the rubble strewn room, In this post at the bottom I said Boram did, he rolled perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 it was before we realized there were traps in the hall.

Dvalin Fafnirson |

"Not so fast, boy! First, you tell us who you are, how you got here, who may come back, how long you've been here, and why they left you platinum when locking you in there?" Assuming its in the moldy sack, otherwise will ask why he's clutching it so, and whats in there.
Looks like a prisoner. But highly suspect. Could be shapeshifting magics, or an ally of them.
Dvalin grips his Battleaxe firmly and visibly. If the boy tries to run for it, he'll get an axe to the knee.=>ready action, (using side of axe, at -4 to do nonlethal...even if that IS an enemy, it's a great chance for interrogation. If it's not an enemy, well...no good using lethal damage in that case :) )

Boram the Burglar |
Boram pokes Dvalin in the shoulder with his walking stick. dwarven”Easy Dvalin, he’s just a kid, anyway, you get more flies with honey than vinegar.”
Walking up beside Dvalin, Boram bows to the young man and proclaims. common”I’s Boram and this grumpy feller is my pal Dvalin an tha fella that spoke out is Augier, don’t mind tha Dwarves we were prepared fer Trolls and Orcs not children in furnace rooms, now come out here’s and tells us yer story, so we knows how ta handle things, yeah. Would ya like something ta drink er some food while ya talk? As Boram invites the child to come sit on the chest (the one he just rifled through) he keeps a keen eye out for anything suspicious.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Yarask of House Dace |

"Rouse or not... we need to be sure..."
Yarask moves near the boy and looks at him straight in the eye:"So boy, what's your name and what are you doing down here. And how is it you have platinum to throw around? You don't seem the kind who can throw such a noble metal around..."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

GM Tribute |

The boy looks at the hard stares, and says "You are dwarves, you are not going to kill me for my treasure are you?" As he runs away he is cut down by the blunt part of an axe and staggered in his weakened condition.
nonlethal: 1d20 ⇒ 121d8 ⇒ 8
That pretty much invalidates diplomacy rolls
He is not getting up from his knees any time soon. You can try to pry the sack out of his hands.
Yarask determines he is a scared kid, now more scared of dwarves than orcs.

Boram the Burglar |
I cannot believe this is happening Boram shakes his head in disbelief, "well now, one of you is going to have to pick him up and carry him back to town, are we going to do like Dolgrm said and check the other door?" After asking his question Boram goes to the western door and checks it for traps and type or style of locks.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 well that's just awful, apparently he poked himself in the eye with the lock picks

Ogden Greyhammer |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Perception to notice if boy looks like a prisoner: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Apparently Ogden is totally confused as to whether this boy tells the truth or even what he looks like. He blames it on Boram's candlelight.
Seeing violence break out he tries to calm the situation:
"Hold!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
"Let us na' be hasty! Boy, if'n ye really be a prisoner here, we mean ye no harm. Tell us yer name and where ye be from. Don't worry about Dvalin here, he is quick to act. But don't do anything to distress him neither."
Ogden will take a look at the boy, inspecting him for injury and for any signs of food deprivation etc. Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 lol the one nat 20 on a heal check.

Dvalin Fafnirson |

@Boram, i prepared on him trying to run away from us. So I feel pretty justified in knocking him down, and pretty proud of the immense nonlethal I did. Heck, with strenght added, I may have knocked him out with a tap to the knee-
"Lets try this again, boy! Who are you, how did you get here, how long have you been here, and who were you talking about? And for the record, I won't kill you for treasure unless you give me a reason to."
Dvalin tries to pry the sack out of his hands to take a look inside. He does not touch anything but at this point it seems suspect he's clutching it still. If it IS something valuable, I ask him how he came into it's possession.
Assuming he has Platinum that he offered to pay us with in there, but the thought process is also valid if he has that Platinum in Trunau...because its not exactly the most widespread coinage-
Platinum, hu? Good thing to bribe. Even small amount worth way more than Gold. Could be he received payment for a service done. Was it not a human that supposedly killed Rodrik?
@Yarask...don't forget, there could be multiple reasons why he'd be more afraid of dwarfs than of orcs! For example, if he's working with Orcs...

Yarask of House Dace |

The moment Yarask realizes the boy is just a scared child probably hiding himself from the orcs Dwalin strikes at him with the flat of his axe:"Great job!" - he bellows - "It's just a boy! And if you feel your axe-hand itch maybe you can try it against mr jelly in the other room!"
So saying the dwarf catches the boy and lifts him on his shoulders:"That's it. I'm out of here!"
"Let's bring this chap back to Trunau and see if anyone knows who he might be!"

Dvalin Fafnirson |

That giant oaf will be the death of us! This young human may well be in league with our enemies
"Really, Yarask? On the way, ask the boy if he knows anything about the human that killed Rodrik. Or if he knows anything about the orcs or half-orcs that tried to kill us. Or why he's in here, at an orcish meeting place with a bag full of cash? And how he got past the Vermin unharmed if he's too weak to stand a friendly nudge with the back of my axe?"
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 - Tries to grab the moldy bag when Yarask lifts him.
Strenght: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 - Pulls on the bag to drag it lose and empty its contents on the floor. Pretty certain from the way he said it he should have the payment platinum in there. If not, I suppose this whole action fails and I stand there like a fool. If he does have money in there, I'm interested in the explanation though.

Yarask of House Dace |

As Dvalin goes on trying to explain himslef Yarask doesn't stop and keeps walking, headed out of the temple:"Are you done? Maybe next time I'll hit you with the flat of a waraxe and then we'll see how well you do compared to this child!"
For the record: just roleplaying Dvalin. Yarask believes the child story (rolled 17 on sense motive) and thinks you should have acted more carefully instead of going all "hit first and ask questions later". But no hard feelings

Ogden Greyhammer |

"Hold I said!" he yells, as Yarask prepares to leave. "Now, you know Dvalin wouldn't hit a child if he didn't think it a trick. And unless you want the boy ta die on tha road, ye'll be lettin' me heal him and the rest of us too, and then we will get ta the bottom a' this"
Ogden channels energy, filling the group and the boy with soothing energy Channel healing: 1d6 ⇒ 4.
After he does so, he turns to Yarask, "Now, question this boy on how in the finer dwarven hells he ended up in this den of monstrosity, and with his possessions left to him to boot!"
He mutters to Boram, "Check tha room the boy was stayin' in, if'n ye may."

Dvalin Fafnirson |

No offense taken, Of course just roleplaying, same here. Heck, the kid is mighty suspicious to me. You don't just wander into such a place, and those vermin upstairs almost did one of us in.
As for you keeping walking, thats why I did the initiative. When you pick him up, I already grab for him, trying to pull lose the bag and empty it. If you ignore me and just keep walking, I suppose thats an automatic success, so we'll see what was in there, and we can react accordingly. Maybe it's rubbish and I'm the fool, maybe its platinum and you have to rethink his innocence. You may believe he is just a mere boy, but that does not mean you're a fool, quite a lot about this situation warrants getting some answers out of him before setting him free in Trunau. Also don't forget that Sense Motive often is rolled in secret...its one of those checks where you succeed or not, and can't feel more certain because you rolled higher because the result shows(as with acrobatics or craft)...and if he did not bluff(no need with anything he said) and one just tries to read the social situation, the DC is 20 anyway...

Boram the Burglar |
what about the door to the north-east? after checking the western door, hearing Ogden as him to check the furnace room. Boram nods, "sure thing, Ogden. Should we check the north-east door also? Boram toddles away from the western door and goes and checks out the furnace room, looking over it carefully.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
once finished he will inform the dwarves if he finds any thing and waits to see if they are going through the western door, or the north-eastern door.
was there any switch or such thing for the bear traps?

GM Tribute |

Dvalin grabs the moldy bag and tries to take possession of it, and the area is showered in platinum coins as the ancient canvas bag falls apart. An estimate puts the coins at around forty, scattered nearby, some rolling into ash and the furnace.
As the boy recovers from his shock with some healing he looks at you defiantly. "I am not talking until I am in front of Ruby or the town guard!! You are treating me worse than the one that locked me in here."
He points to the door to the Northeast: "Don't open any doors, this is a dangerous place. Let's get out of here."
He begins to pick up coins.

Boram the Burglar |
He seems sincere but we need information Scowling at the dwarves a little bit, Boram approached the boy and speaking firmly, common ”Ruby is a friend of ours, yeah, she’s tha one ‘at told us all ‘bout ‘is place. We told ‘er we would check it out. If’n you can’t tell us what is in tha basement here, were gonna need to find out ourselves. So unless you can give us more information here and now, I’s got no choice but ta open all tha doors and look in.”
going to try it again, for information
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Dvalin Fafnirson |

Dvalins face shows disbelieve.
"Ease up? EASE UP? All I wanted is some answers, which this human has refused to provide so far. For whatever reason, he's in here, locked with a years worth of wages, with no word on why he's here or got that money, or, if he was captured as he claims, how he's still in possession of it. Damn right I would be terrified in his place, too. Because I know someone would ask questions. He can't be a lier because he said nothing worthwhile, yet. But sure, go ahead, trust yer guts and bring him back to town. Just do me a favor and bring him to the guard, not Ruby, because if Rodriks fate was to happen to her too, I dunno what I'll do."
With those words, Dvalin stomps off, pouting and agitated, towards where the Dwarves spend the night previously, muttering something under his breath about "idiots protecting a paid murderer for a part of his payment". Happens before Borams action. If Dvalin's gone, you should be more successful with diplomacy-

Yarask of House Dace |

Yarask bristles with barely supressed rage but keeps walking away from the temple:"Don't worry boy. I'll get you back in town and then you'll be cared for. But we'll need to know what you were doing down here. And who imprisoned you. Trunau itself might depend on the information you have"
Cosnider Yarask moving as fast as possible out of the temple by using the most secure route. He won't turn back for anything less than open conflict

Boram the Burglar |
this is getting no where fast deciding that the boy is not going to give the information they need to be comfortable with leaving the building, Boram says dwarven"well if he isn't giving us information we will need to finish searching the building before we leave." He then walks over to the north-eastern door, shillelagh in hand, and opens the door then looks in.
if the door is locked he will take 20 (30) opening it, once the door is open if there is no immediate threat he will look around
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Ogden Greyhammer |

Ogden groans, "Don't think I'd be trusting a human or halfling down 'ere with several hundred in gold pieces just happen ta be locked away. What idiot would leave the gold ta him? Why is 'e even here? So many questions, but the big oaf can't e'en get a simple answer outta him a'fore we continue."
He shrugs at Boram and the others, "With 'em both storming off like babes, we might as well follow to make sure they arrive safe. Let's wrap it up boys, we can finish this later. Oh, and gather up that platinum."
He mutters to himself, "Ain't never seen no prisoner act as cocky as that boy do."

Ogden Greyhammer |

ok.
Ogden nods to Dolgrym, "As one of the last remaining sane folk here, could ya follow 'em and make sure nothing befalls 'em? The rest of us can keep watch on Boram while he finishes up, then join ye on tha road."

Dvalin Fafnirson |

Still in the building...if something happens, I'll storm downwards if you give a shout...
Up near the shrine where they camped last night, Dvalin takes a closer look at the Platinum Coin he picked up.
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Appraise: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 2 = 23
Trying to find out where it was minted, where it's in use, and generally if he knows anything that could link it to a certain area/culture/nation.

Dvalin Fafnirson |

Technically, I'm in the building, within earshot, but about one round away from the others, taking some alone time. And as mentioned above, trying to find out about the coin. Maybe mintage hints towards an answer, since obviously the boy won't provide one.

GM Tribute |

As Dvalin examines the gold, he realizes it is dwarven gold!!! Mined and cast in precise coins to exacting specification, the gold coins depict a mountain, and an additional casting added what appears to be rivulets of blood running down the mountain in rose gold on top of the yellow gold. You try to remember if Mountain and Blood ring a bell.
Meanwhile, creeping into the rubble room in what appears a room miners lived in, as moldy bedrolls and broken equipment are scattered. Boram steps carefully on the broken terrain and notices a great bit of treasure around here, but the flickering candle provides eery shadows. A half minute after entering the room, the shadows seem to multiply and four shadowy forms are near Boram unnoticed.
The forms coalesce into rats that try to bit Boram, and three of the teeth close on his body but do not seem to connect. Then Boram feels weaker. 3 less strength to 9 STR
Boram 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Dvalin 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Ogden 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Aaargh 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Yarask 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Dolgrym 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Tegnar 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Enemy 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
bite again: 4d20 ⇒ (18, 5, 9, 8) = 40
The rats bite again at Boram, and three teeth bite through him.
6 less strength Boram is at 6 STR May want to check encumbrance
After the second attack Boram cries out, and, although you cannot see anything, you take the hobbits word for it that he is fighting shadowy rats.
Initiative
Rats
Rest of party

Boram the Burglar |
did you mean gold or platinum coins? His gear weighs 31.5 lbs, this puts him at heavy capacity if his strength is 6, so +1 dex. -6 check penalty 15 ft. speed, run x3. Boram will withdraw, giving up the AoO
Boram, realizing the shadows have formed into some kind of rats, I would rather fight orcs feelin very weak he turns, tumbling away from the rats and runs out of the room yelling "Some kind of shadowy rats!"
acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 - 6 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 6 = 18

GM Tribute |

Boram is near a macabre corpse wearing a suit of sturdy chainmail
with a fine silver dagger and wearing a red gold unholy symbol of nasty description and has a full purse at his belt.
edit : the coins are platinum -- I think I give Boram two squares of movement in difficult terrain using acrobatics --by RAW I think we are talking 20' per square if it s 2x2=4x movement cost

Dvalin Fafnirson |

Dwarfen mintage. High quality. How would those platinum coins even get here. Unless, of course, they've been taken from their rightful owners by an orcish raid. Now lets see if I can find out in which rulers reign those were minted...
His clansmates screams interrupting his in-detail examination, Dvalin drops the coin and starts running towards them.
Need to spend my first round action to get back to the group

Yarask of House Dace |

Yarask is out of the building at this point. Can he hear the commotion? If not he will keep wlaking towards Trunau, if he can he will curse and come back leaving the boy in a place as secure as possible. Even unnning will take him some time anyway, even if his movement is 30ft instead of the canonical 20.

Yarask of House Dace |

Perception check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
As he's starting to walk on the slopes that lead back to town Yarask's keen sense of hearing warns him of the battle exploding in the bowels of the desecrated temple and he curses under his breath:"Those damn oafs! What did they do now?!?"
The dwarf spares the boy a concerned look before putting him down:"Do you hear that? Battle was joined inside the temple. I'm sorry but I'm honor bound to get back there and try to save my kin. I can't bring you back jut yet, so do you think you can walk back to town alone? Also, my name is Yarask and I realize you didn't give us yours, would be good i we could at least part knowing each othr names. I'm sorry for what happened down there. Let's just say everyone was on edge and things didn't work out very well..."
Once finished his speech Yarask runs back towards the temple

GM Tribute |

The boy shrugs, and runs off to town. "Thank you!! I would help, but I am very hungry and want to see some light and people."
The rats are creatures of shadow and are difficult to see. But Boram has told you where they are.
Game effect = now have total concealment = 50% miss chance
Room is difficult terrain -- I will wait to tonight to move things along.
