Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

The face of the dead person looked familiar; Jeyne knew Emelia Otterbie would be upset. But she wasn't - some called it heartlessness, but she called it efficiency. Standing up from her inspection of the body, she began to look around the cavern. "We shall need to devise some means of cremating the remains; begin searching for fuel. When the mold kills a victim, the body plays host to its spores - within a day vegepygmies burst from the remains. Small plant creatures, quite vicious. We are fortunate none have come forth already, but we should not linger in dealing with the issue."

Action 2

I assume Jeyne will recognize the e-pick, since she's got another one hanging around her neck - what needs to be done to identify the other items?

male

Yes, Jeyne would identify the e-pick.

OTHER RULES WE'LL USE:

Heal: Used to identify and understand pharmaceuticals.

Knowledge (arcana): Although robots are constructs, Knowledge (arcana) cannot be used to identify robots or their abilities and weaknesses.

Knowledge (engineering): This is the most important skill with regard to technological subj ects. Knowledge (engineering) can be used to identify a robot's abilities and weaknesses. Knowledge (engineering) is also used to identify and understand unknown technological objects in a similar manner to how Spellcraft is used to identify the properties of a magic item. The DC to correctly identify and understand an unknown technological object is equal to the object's Craft DC. An object with a Craft DC of 15 or less can be automatically identified and understood by someone trained in Knowledge (engineering) who also has the Technologist feat.

Knowledge (geography): Used for astronomy.

Knowledge (engineering) to identify batteries: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

I've found a few things that may prove useful, Jeyne calls out, digging through the pile of rubble with the butt end of her spear. Bending over, she retrieves them and examines them closely. A pair of grippers, it seems, and another e-pick like the one I received from Khonnir, she adds, indicating the device hanging incongruously with the holy symbols on the twine cord around her neck. And a few more silverdisks. I'm aware they're fully functional batteries, but Jeyne isn't...;)

Knowledge (dungeoneering) (DC 15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

"I'm sure I've already seen this fellow but..." His thinking process is interrupted by Jeyne's advice about cremating the body. "You are, once more, right Jeyne... I have also a couple vials of alchemist's fire... I think it might work, right?" After the items are removed from the man, Zaken emptied a vial of the mentioned alchemical item in the man, making sure to 'spread' it evenly so it'd burn slowly and steady.

"So... this man carried some pretty neat stuff..." He looked at the beautifully crafted chain shirt. "...if no one has a better use to it, I'd like to keep this one... mine is a bit old and has a torn link right above my left nipple that is always pinching..."

“Damn mold.” Camrad said watching the body burn. “That's three bodies now that we've seen killed by the stuff. If there's any justice in the world, we’ll never see it again after this is over.” Like with the gnome adventurers, Camrad read a few passages from his text. I ain't no Pharasmin, but I hope that'll at least help you along pal.

Action 2

Camrad hung back while the others inspected their find. Why does everyone here always gotta be so eager to play with fire. he thought, heading towards the southern door and inspecting it. There didn't appear to be a door knob and it wouldn't budge when he tried pushing it open gently. Figures. he thought, dropping his pack to the ground next to him. Well, here goes nothin’. Camrad tried forcing his hands into any grooves He could find and began to tug with all his might.

Malka didn't recognize the body but that didn't surprise her. "This is one body we will not be able to take back. It is just too dangerous if it gives rise to vegepygmies. Fire is definitely the best option."

What other magical means would work in purifying the body? Does Malka's roll give her more specific info?

"I agree with you Camrad. If I never see mold again, it will be too soon. Give me metal anyday."

Action 2:

Finally the group made its way back to the glaucite wall. Even though Jeyne and Zaken already looked at the items that Jeyne found, Malka's curiosity drew her to give them a quick study.

"I have seen most of these things before. Zaken is correct in that these are not silverdisks because they still contain usable energy. They may come in handy and should be kept just in case."

When Camrad started to push against the closed door, Malka wondered if the door could possibly be locked or needed an access card to enter. She approached the door and looked for a keypad like they often had where she had grown up.

Fabian, is the door jammed shut or will one of our 'access cards' work to open the door? What kind of roll would Malka need to make to figure that out?

Malka, are you looking for controls of some sort? If you find them and the access cards from the skulks are unsuccessful, I may be able to bypass them with this, if those batteries are functional. She indicates the e-pick they had just found. If neither works, the grippers should at least help to improve hold on the door - they'll aid in forcing our way through.

The word sprung to Seven's mind when he saw the mess of bones among the tangle of the cage. It's exact meaning evaded him, but he knew that word could be used to describe this creature. It had been used to describe him as well. A strange feeling began to overtake him as he looked a the remains trapped within their metal prison; a tightness in the throat, a burning of the eyes. He reached between the bars and touched the bones, wondering if this had ever been anyone's friend.

He watched, horrified, as the sticky purple tentacles wrapped themselves around his ankles. He tried to hop out of them but nearly tripped. He jerked his head around until he found the source of the tentacles...more tentacles; a seemingly endless mass of them.

As the slippery things writhed and twisted around him, he began to grow angry. The familiar words rose in his head, but he didn't try to shush them. He was learning that, sometimes, it was better to let the voice speak.

He bellowed in anger, raised the sword high over his head, and brought it down in a vicious slicing motion to sever the thick mass of tentacles at his feet.

Action 1:

Malka's mind flooded with feelings of distress and she reached up to soothe Blu by stroking his fur. The wizard had no doubt that it was the skeletons in the cages that were upsetting Blu. Even though they looked like rodents, there was a good chance that they had been petromins and Blu could sense it. Malka thought they should keep moving. It was then that Seven found the sticks.

The machines were odd and Malka agreed with Zaken's assessment. "They do appear to be involved in cleansing somehow. If only they were smaller, I would like to take them back with us so that I could study them more. Maybe the people needed to be cleansed from what awaits on the other side before going back into the rest of the vessel."

Action 3:

When they kept moving and came to a room full of sand, she thought it odd. Sand could be detrimental to machines as the little grains could get in and clog the mechanics. Malka was surprised when Blu tried to get down off her neck. He appeared agitated and happy all at once. She figured that the sand reminded him of home but she wasn't sure it was safe. Again she stroked his fur and whispered, "Wait until we know it is safe. If there is no danger, maybe you can play in the sand for a bit."

No sooner had the words left her mouth than purple tentacles broke the surface of the sand and stretched towards them.

“Kids right. Don't know how safe the trail is, but I'll be damned if I'm steppin’ even an inch out of it.” Camrad said, scanning the expanse warily. The silence was making him uncomfortable. “This ain't natural. It's too quiet to be.” he said in a hushed tone.

Action 1:

"Seven!" Malka ran forward towards her sinking friend and then realized that she had neither rope nor the strength to pull him out. Desperate to not let him sink further, she reached her quarterstaff towards him. It was then that Camrad had a better idea and threw Seven a rope.

Malka watch with baited breath as the others worked to free Seven. Once he was free she gathered both Seven and Camrad in a group hug. "I am so relieved you are ok and thank you Camrad for freeing him." She then awkwardly patted Leek on the head. "Thank you Leek. You were very helpful."

Action 2:

While they discussed their next course of action, Malka let Blu glide off her neck to play in the sand but kept a close eye on him. "It makes sense to follow the path. It would hopefully be the best bet in finding Councilman Baine."

Is Blu still agitated?

Once they had decided on how to proceed, Malka corralled Blu and resettled him around her neck.

Thanks for letting us know.

I intend to recap tonight so if you can get Seven's panicked state in that would be great. If not, I'll just have to bury Seven some other time. :)

Questions?

Action 1
Found a few mins :)

The sand was real thick, like mud, and it made a funny squishing sound that made Seven laugh. As he tried to tug his left leg free, though, he lost his balance and began to fall backward. He throw his left hand out behind him to brace the fall. It landed softly but deeply, nearly up to his shoulder, in the soft sand.

Uh oh. "Hey...Malka? MALKA!"

He was now on his left side, up to his shoulder in wet sand, as his body continued to sink. He still held his sword, though he tried to toss it in the direction of the others. As the wet, gravely substance began to reach his lips, he started to panic.

He couldn't move his body. He couldn't kick his legs or swim with his submerged arm. All he could do was cry for help and wave his right arm. He thought of Tolgy and how disappointed he'd be that Seven didn't bring back the sword. He also thought about Dolga's message. How would Tolgy know? He thought about the horses back at the stable, and the various names he'd come up with. And of course he thought about Malka. Who would look out for her if he sunk in this sand and ended up like the orc they'd found earlier?

But then he thought about the voice. It was picking up steam again, agitated that he couldn't get out. He thought how nice it might be just to make it shut up for a while, and he closed his eyes and waited.

"INITIATING RESCUE SEQUENCE." The grating, robotic voice of LEEK pierced the darkness, and Seven felt his right shoulder grabbed and tugged. LEEK managed to clear his head from the dirt and he coughed and choked as he took in a breath of air. Then Seven's spearhead poked out, and for a second Seven though he meant to stab him, but he realized he should grab on. Camrad's rope reached him next, and he clung to it as all of them struggleg to extract his heavy, armored form from the dirt.

Sitting up by the edge of the sand, he continued to spit the sand out of his mouth. It seemed to be everywhere (everywhere). "Don't worry, Malka," he said as he snorted sand out of his nose, "It wasn't as fun as it looked."

By the time the skeleton’s claw struck Zaken, Camrad was already bearing down on it and raising his Warhammer above his head. Fires burned in his eyes as he brought the hammer down with all his strength.

The undead’s ribcage gave a satisfying crunch as Camrad’s hammer swung home. Prepared for a counter attack, he drew it close with both hands, eyeing the creature with pure hate. “Don't know what you were, but I'm sending you back in the ground where you belong.” he said, readying another strike.

As soon as the skeleton appeared to attack the group, Malka activated protection for herself by casting iron skin on herself. Once her skin had hardened, she readied her quarterstaff in order to bash brittle bone.

Oh, good gods...this is what I get for gloating to myself about my good Perception score. :)

Surprised by the skeleton's sudden appearance, Jeyne stabbed hurriedly with her spear - but not seeking to wound it. Her spear point had been doing little good on that front as of late. Rather, she decided to merely try and distract it, hoping that Seven would be able to capitalize on an opening. She opened her mouth for a moment to tell him, but then remembered her newly discovered glitch. We shall see if he figures it out, then. Tag Seven, if you like.

"Oh crap!" Zaken yelled, his left hand covering the wounds in his right shoulder. "Come on... was it really necessary? LEEK I need your help here... crush this thing..."

Zaken moved away from the skeleton and started to calculate the directions LEEK mentioned there were enemies coming from.

"I was going to complain about your mathematical methods but it is indeed quite easy to pinpoint them, LEEK..." He narrowed his eyes, making sure he had correctly spotted the new enemies.

Four arms? From what creature it was formed?

Action 1
Seven rubbed his eyes as they walked, sand still falling from his eyelashes. He was so distracted by it that he didn't notice the danger until Zaken cried out in pain. He spun around, once again dropping his torch and gripping his sword with both hands.

Not sure if the first skelly is still standing, but I'll assume it is.

He hissed at the thing. It had way too many arms. It reminded him of some of the others he had seen with the Doctors. They didn't last very long, though, and usually tried to bite him. Once the Doctors had put him in the big room with one. It had tried to hurt him like this one hurt Zaken, so he had taken its arms off. He figured he'd try the same thing here, too.

Stepping quickly to the other side of LEEK, Seven took aim for the arm holding Zaken's shoulder, severing it at its source.

I don't want to talk about how many times I've had that exact same thing happen, lol.
