I really like Rrruh's suggestion of recruiting "an expert of criminal sorts."

Did any of you want to introduce an NPC to fill the role? Maybe Sapphire has a detective rival or a Moriarty-like figure? Maybe Rrruh has a philosophy student acquaintance of a more criminal bent who's good at foiling other criminals?

Or it could be a Bellflower agent allied with the Eagle Knights, providing motivation for the normally anti-authoritarian Randu?

I haven't thought much about an NPC. I've had some RL stuff distracting so I worry I wouldn't be reliable there


First off, I want to apologize for the week-long pause. Besides RL issues, I've been having a bit of writer's block for the game.

I'm going give you a look behind the GM screen. We are well beyond my original outline and notes for the game, and I've been drawing a blank regarding where to go next.

The intelligence provided by the captured spy was supposed to provide a lead for your new agency's next mission, but I've been hitting a wall when trying to develop ideas. Therefore, I thought I'd consult you guys.

What direction would you guys like to take this game? What kind of new mission do you want to glean from this interrogation?

I think the border, where we started some kind of evil plan there a kind of prelude to war. kind of mirroring the real world BEFORE it all went to hell.

Okay, going with Sapphire's request for action on the Border (I assume the Chelaxian border not the Taldor one ;)) ideas that come to mind...

in no particular order:

A visit to Alvis where we behold Alchemical whackiness, maybe someone is smuggling dangerous potions, elixirs, etc for use in something wicked?

While i have played it, the Tower of the last baron adventure is set in Piren's Bluff. I could see this hooking into that adventure with your own twists if you like. Downside would be purchasing it if you don't have it and I suspect it would need tweaking.

Randu is always happy to help his fellow Halflings.So Bellflower network stuff would hook him. But that might not be as interesting to others.

we could also find a reason to revisit falcon's hollow so Rrruh could check on his love interest. :)

Those are all sound. There is bound to be intruigue about here, there are folks to track down as slavers, there is a town where a certain gorgeous catfolk maiden is at that needs some redirecting and protecting for sure. Border skirmishing as Sapphire mentioned.

I actually already own both Tower of the Last Baron and its sequel, Treasure of Chimera Cove, so both of those (with tweaks, of course) are on the table.

Thank you for reminding me about Naulla, the female catfolk glass worker. She does present good plot hook ideas, particularly for returning to Falcon's Hollow. In fact, reminding me of her also reminded me of a plot hook that I had planted a while ago and forgot all about.

I think I can have an outline and the start of the next adventure ready by tomorrow. In the meantime...

@Randu: I hope you're feeling better, and I wish you a swift recovery. I'm just finally losing the cough and congestion from an upper respiratory infection that hit my family a couple weeks ago.

@Sapphire/Miya: I have no objections if Sapphire becomes an NPC and Miya takes her spot on the party. I am impressed by the conversation between the two that you RPed. Assuming Randu and Rrruh have no concerns, you have the green light.

On the subject of recruiting new agents for the team, I wanted to ask if you guys thought we should recruit a new player or two. If so, does anyone have any friends or leads they would want to reach out to?

Thinks GM, it just felt right that Sapphire take on an orginsainal roll over a field agent one now the agency is up and running.

And Miya is an infiltrator and we really needed one for the party, now we have lost a few players.

Not our DM but glad to see interest!

We got a monk, a ninja, and a witch...which leaves us pretty open. Right now , at least, it looks like any finds of medium or heavy armor would likely go to anyone you bring in relying on those as the rest of us are either using Cat Fu, Foxjitsu, or spell casting from a distance.

Alignment wise, the game was supposed to be non evil characters only but I don't know if that's changed.

@ DM Vayelan, I see that in the initial Recruitment thread you mentioned additional material was available on a case by case basis. Wondering if you'd consider this material. More specifically the Blackpowder Magus (Gunslinging Magus archetype)

Alignments should still be non-evil, especially considering how the party has just become the leaders of Andoran's new anti-terrorism unit.

As Randu mentioned, the party presently lacks a tank or other heavy type, but other character types would also be useful.

The next mission will involve investigating, questioning, and surveilling potential auction participants in Falcon's Hollow. This will also lead into a modified version of the Tower of the Last Baron adventure module, which is focused on infiltration.

i would say start play with 4650gp that is a heroic NPC level of the coin,
it's that kind of game even at 6th level your not getting much.

I've come to realize that, across my games, I've been unintentionally stingy with rewards, so I've been trying to amend that - hence why I gave the veteran party members the 2000gp requisition budget.

@Mark Thomas 66: What amount of starting gold did you use for Layla? I wanted to find out before making a decision.

Standard 6th level PC...but factoring in that the class starts off with the gun free that is improved with Gunsmithing, and the only real cost would be the +1 enhancement, it would actually be just over half that (about 9,000 gp) let me know If I need to adjust.


This is proving trickier than I thought.

As I said, I don't want to be miserly, like I fear I've done with my past GMing. I don't want to shortchange our new players, but I also don't want to leave them with far more wealth than the older characters.

Let me know what you guys think about this:

The new party members (including Miya, who's ostensibly a newly assigned agent) can start with 9000gp.
This is roughly between the 6th level PC and Heroic NPC wealth.

Meanwhile, I will also prepare special rewards (either material or narrative) for Randu and Rrruh. I've already begun formulating ideas based on Randu's desire to purchase property in Falcon's Hollow and Rrruh's relationship with Naulla.

My own opinion is that if you give the new guys some goodies, then eventually it pays off for my character in keeping him alive ;)

And while Randu might not be at Falcon's hollow often, yes; to actually own your own land strikes me as dream for a halfling raised in poverty.
