Randu Riggling is no stranger to the lumber consortium. At one time, he worked as a cook for a group of them- among them was his older brother. Both Riggling siblings were proud Andoran citizens. They had always believed this was a land where humans and halflings were equals.
but the Darkmoon vale area was different. Randu's brother was a halfling, he wasn't as strong, therefore he was scorned. He was mocked, and yes, the term 'slip' was used. Runo , Randu's brother, fought this prejudice by working twice as hard. Randu wanted to quit.
Then the storm came, some of the loggers had complained about how it looked bad, and they needed to close up, but the foreman waved their debts in their faces and threatened to fire them and...so they worked, and were working when the storm came. The ground turned to mud, the rain came down, and one of the trees went down wrong. So very wrong. Hitting a work horse and two lumberjacks, one of them his brother.
And the foreman ordered with withdraw, and..decided to save the draft horse. There was no room on the cart for the lumber they had gotten and the horse AND the lumberjack or so it was decided. That , Randu thought , was insane! Halflings took up so little room!
They'd 'be back'...and the dying halfling was left in the storm, and his brother, Randu? Refused to leave him. Until he died, and the storm drove him into the hills and he took comfort in the shadows.
Rage and hurt and fever, he thought he was out of his mind when the shadows spoke to him. But he listened, and learned and Sage came to him, and ...well, it's been a few years. Now he's a witch, and while he remains a good soul, Randu hopes to undo the Consortium 's power. No more innocent people need to die just because they weren't worth as much as a horse or a log of spice wood.
