Gob Smash One

Game Master Tacticslion

They be goblins, you be food... why are they so weird, dude?

That's what the W.D.G.F.F. (Western Duchy Goblin Fighting Force) first Reconnaissance and Strike Crew, aka "Gob Smash One" (that's you) have been sent to find out, in the barren mana wastes beyond the edge of the Duchy near the border of Geb in an ancient abandoned outpost called Hightower...

I think Ceru's all leveled.

Ceru gains Sneak Attack. I know we all get some bonus to Opportune Strike because we've all been ninjafied but does she get anything as a class bonus? I can't find the house rule.

EDIT: twice; for clarity

Instead of 1d6 every odd level, you gain a bonus to your damage equal to your (level+1).

The opportune strike keys off of anything negative affecting the character, whatsoever. Any Condition, any effect, any situation that negatively affects the character, so long as you could reasonably gain any sort of advantage or they are taking any sort of penalty.

:)

Right, but is the bonus different from what everyone else gets as their bonus ninjafication.

I.e., you gave everyone opportune strike.

But I have "opportune strike" (sneak attack) as a class feature when others in the party do not. So do I get the same as everyone else and thus effectively lose a class feature (because I'd have the ability anyway)? Or do I get a bonus? Because I think you told me my bonus was +5 at level 2, which is more than level +1.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm sorry, but I still hate this house rule. I just can't get it in my head.

Everyone else gained +2.

You gain a +2 bonus above the standard.

I have added a link to Opportune Strike basic introduction (and additional information; sap adept) at the bottom of the Campaign Tab, and you can see the training boons in there, too.

Quote:

Opportune Strike +2 (DC 10)

If an "assassin" can catch an opponent when it is unable to defend itself effectively from her attack, she can strike far more viciously than most. Whenever she is flanking a creature, or attacking a creature with a detrimental condition or affliction or who is denied their dexterity bonus for any reason, or attacking any creature who otherwise is suffering a penalty due to any sort of effect, can deal additional damage. "Assassins" gain a +2 bonus to their damage.

This ability stacks with any other similar abilities the assassin may have. Most similar abilities grant a bonus equal to your level +1.

Welcome, Schnorzel! Glad to have you with us!
I would say hi in gameplay, but I don't think Layla is supposed to be fully awake yet.

I should have a chance to level Layla up over the weekend. Cheers!

@Layla-
Yeah I'd had another idea but the hanging plot thread of Schnorzel was simply too great to ignore.
I think that she will be great fun, mostly by being terrified of a great many things.
Though I am pretty sure everyone is awake, Schnorzel is on the otherside of the door to you all I think.

@ "Sunny"
I am personally quite glad to be welcomed. Though as it stands Schnorzel is rather skittish. I imagine Schnorzel will become accustomed to the groups various quirks soon enough.

Got it. Sorry if I sounded cranky. It takes so long to learn the real rules, I find I struggle to learn many house rules on top, even if they seem reasonably simple.

Welcome, Schnorzel. I guess you had come in from one of Tac's other games or something?

Layla: Q/A Time:

1) You only have damage that you had at the end of the last battle. You all took five nonlethal damage (You were all quite lucky: it was 3d6 potential non-lethal damage!), but you all healed at least that much by default. Hence, it wasn't mentioned. I apologize that it wasn't clear. If anything, when you first woke up, before you had a chance to see anything, you were a combination of staggered, nauseated (the condition, not actually), and dazzled.

2) Huh. It... did. Weird. I must have accidentally pasted an earlier draft. Apologies. I'll finish the description of the taller one below. they look like women, they're just each missing limbs. The smaller one has a missing limb that appears like it was very badly wounded, rotted, and taken off, leaving scarring, but subsequently healed. The taller one is uneven, but smooth - like a wound long healed, or an unusual defect.

3) The place where the double doors used to be is now glooooooom. The place you guys came from (the tunnel) is now a savage fiery column of flames. The former place of glooooooooom is now a fenced-in area with a doorway leading to stairs.

4) You're welcome!

5-E) You do... well, sort of. You see an crystalline chakram. Definitely not what you threw, but it's sitting there, nonetheless, in roughly the same spot, near the giant table.

Bonus) Your Heal and Perception should, I think, both be 15, based off of the boon from the PM instead of the one on the thread, and the fact that you leveled up (so +1 to each). You can reasonably assess that, outside of "in pain" most of Gob Smash One seems to be okay, if in immanent danger of death by flames or asphyxiation.

-----

No problem, DQ. Answering Questions is one of my major jobs!

-----

Vitreous: on the place that the snake bit you, you see a tattoo. It transforms, suddenly, into a tentacle, at your inspection (allowing your exclamation) and then returns to a tattoo, at your option. You recognize it as both a part of yourself, and a separate entity - a kind of biomechanical familiar that can become a tattoo, at will. Surrounding the place where the head is attached (as if it's biting you) are four phases of the moon tattooed. You may wish to mark that on your sheet at some point.

About the two women:

what I wrote wrote:
As Vitrerous coughs himself awake, the obsidian woman - seemingly a gnome - throws her... one arm (as she's missing her right arm) about him in an awkward hug. She wears little from the waste up, though she seems to be a well-armored sort from the waste down. The other woman beside him is colorful, beautiful, and comparatively tall - medium-sized, in fact, though on the short end of that medium. She, too, is missing an arm, though her missing limb is the left. Whereas the first one is various shades of black from head to foot to hair to eyes, the second, taller one
what I should have written wrote:

As Vitrerous coughs himself awake, the obsidian woman - seemingly a gnome - throws her... one arm (as she's missing her right arm) about him in an awkward hug. She wears little from the waste up, though she seems to be a well-armored sort from the waste down. The other woman beside him wears nothing at all, is colorful, beautiful, and comparatively tall - medium-sized, in fact, though on the short end of that medium. She, too, is missing an arm, though her missing limb is the left.

Whereas the first one is various shades of black from head to foot to hair to eyes, the second, taller one, holds a myriad of colors and tones, all of which seem... bright somehow. A faint aura of iridescent luminescence shimmers about her in the air, almost like steaming sweat in the heat. The colors of her hair, eyes, and nails change rapidly and regularly, each at different stimuli or as responses to different effects. Her eyes seem to flash with mood, nails from clicking into each other, and skin just slowly shifting. A sharp eye notes that even her features, though subtle, shift slightly, though never enough to deny her obvious beauty.

Both are in fantastic physical health, other than the arms, and both have hard, focused expressions, save when they glance at Vitreous. Still, the colorful woman seems somehow more... reticent... in her affections than the obsidian one, though she still seems affectionate.

Apologies about that error.

I've always striven for conciseness! To the point of being not clear enough.

I realized that Tac might have missed my rather obvious to me reference in the other game's thread, as it might have been slightly too concise...

I just realized I was so concise that I actually edited it out before I posted, so now I know why you didn't get my rather funny little Monty Python reference...

^ Similarly, although it intoxicates, the intoxication is notably "mild" (though their example wouldn't hold true for me at all - I intoxicate way too easily, as I've discovered on the four-or-so times^^ I've consumed uncooked or undercooked alcohol (all of which were accidental - man I hate that stuff, it's so awful: blech!).

^^ My great-uncle's open but unconsumed can of beer (before I knew things other than soda, soup, sauce, or fish came in cans), a "tea" at a party (it wasn't!), rum-cake in the islands (I think this one has actually hit me a couple of times, I just remember the one), and undercooked wine at the Melting Pot, for the curious. There may have been a few others. Every time it's terrible. Also, getting close enough to a bar to smell it is always terrible, too. My fortitude save really, really sucks (though my Constitution can sometimes be normal - I'm guessing I have a flaw that lowers my fort save v. alcohol or something :D).

' Shaedo (and anyone else) can realize this with a DC 20 knowledge (arcana), knowledge (religion), or spellcraft check. If you make the check and succeed, check out the spoiler to Dijiron in this post to realize what's happening. (He auto-succeeded due to his high bonus in Knowledge (arcana) and (religion), and the fact that, after he levels up, he'll have three ranks netting a +10 in Spellcraft, which I rolled, and got... an 11. Hence, I informed him automatically.

As for how hung over the little kitsune is, I'm thinking she'll have a moment of a bad placebo effect. She remembers being reeeaaaally drunk (for her!), so she kinda expects at least a mild hangover. though a Blastoise with Cthullu tentacles would be a fun creature to make.

As for the fractoise... I'm starting to think we could use the Cthullhu's Star Spawn as the base creature, add the missing template and quickened Hydraulic Push as an at will spell-like ability, give it good strong half-shell (mass nat. armor, maybe special hide in shell ability as well! Super-sized natural tower shield maybe?),and then give it the fractal bite of the Fractal Bear (or Fractal Tentacles!). And I think- that may be it. The scariest pokemon ever- as well as Cthullhu's master general. ;D

----Though fifty cloned Mewtwo's would be pretty nasty too. But neither are as adorable as my level 100 vaporeon and flameron! Ah, the old days. I haven't kept up with the new ones either, but the original blue and red shall always hold a special place in my memories. :')

1) I use ooc here to indicate when I'm not using my GM voice, event though I try to stick to my GM account in the game where I'm a GM. Specific exceptions apply. In other games, I do so to leave open the door for in-character dialogue in Discussion areas so that the Flex Time mechanic can be more easily used. I do not require that of you guys.

2) You've now made me hungry for pancakes. I will go hunt and get some for my family. That is all.

Wait, so were the breakfast burritos a lie?
Fortunately, the pancakes, unlike the cake, were not a lie! :)

Creating food based alliterative spell items/potions could be silly and quite enjoyable.

Potion of enlarge person? Nah thats an Expansive Eclair.
Even magic won't prevent it from going straight to your thighs though.

Potion of spider climb? Nope, that's a Sovereign bear claw.
Make sure not to get any on your shirt.

Pancakes are far too good to be a lie, in similar fashion I am now in possession of Bacon due to this breakfast conversation.
The bacon is delicious and moist.
