With that incorporeal spawn killed once more Abe turns his attention to the red eyed one crawling slowly through the air. Abe and Messalina both do significant damage to it as their elemental weapons burn and freeze portions of the shade. Small flames flicker within the shadowy blur.

The spawn reaches slowly out at Messalina.

Zane sees that the cultist is just there to keep Team Blood and Fury away from Malice.
The Zane don't play that game. Take your best shot. It's your last.
and he moves forward toward Malice. He fully expects a shot, so he positions his armor to absorb as much of the blow.

The Zane feels the disembodies hand go through him. He's felt it before, but from lesser beings. Well with the Vampire encounter- that was on par.

Hey Xix, This was a good primer. The Corpse Fleet is also probably somewhere around here and they are all dead-um's like this spirit is.

The Zane slices through her with his blade, though the damage is stunted due to her incorporeal nature shifting. Dash is sure to take care of the entirely as his magical missiles burst through Malice's head, sending bits of shade all over.

Eltreth’s image seems to fret and panic. "Look, I don't want to get locked up again. I didn't mean it." He says desperately.

Would need a computers check to begin to free Osteth and imprison Eltreth.

Vetch takes a moment to rest, then many many more moments to rest.

”Now that was fight,” Vetch utters, looking at his wounds and beginning to fix them up. He tries to avoid looking at *The* Zane’s damages, knowing he’ll have to poke at them soon enough.

”I didn’t think we’d have a chance against them, but here we are,” he chitters happily after he realizes that they all had lived.

”They must have had some good gear, I bet,” Vetch skitters to look for the loot from the dead.

Abe slides quickly and comfortably to the console, "Aye, that was nasty!" he worries about Messalina's damage, but he has a higher priority for now.

He gets to work, trying to free Osteth and imprison Eltreth. Let them sort it out between themselves.

Zane doesn't need a scientist

Zane pauses to rest. He inhales and exhales deeply. That combat was painful. Lots of those weapons blasted away significant portions of his armor and got into his skin.
I thought for certain Zane was going to drop to unconsciousness.
But this rest is also dangerous. Not enough resolve to stop bleeding.1/8 resolve.

Osteth, you had better be damn glad that ABE is sending you to a place where The Zane can't get at you. You got it all wrong, you aren't getting locked up, The Zane is getting locked OUT!

”Abe, I think locking away this digital doucheb@g is too good for him.” Dash slides up next to Abe to assist with the computers. ”Is there a control alt delete routine? Or maybe a code editor? We could knock a few neural screws loose. Let him exist as a moron. Or maybe dress him up in lady’s lingerie and set him as a go-go dancing screensaver for all eternity.”

Dash glances at the hologram of Eltreth. ”That is, unless you can helpful.”

You actually don't have the 10 minutes to rest at the moment as Abe works the computer to imprison you remaining foe.

Abe quickly begins getting to work on the computer to try and free Osteth and imprison Eltreth. Abe is a bit slow on the mark and notices that Eltreth is starting to rewrite the code on the fly. "I will not be imprisoned again!"

The terminal near the stairs explodes sending electrical arcs out in a 20 foot radius.

Sounds like everyone was in the room, so the trap hits all.

After a couple more quick programming attempts Abe is able to hack through the first stage and realizes that Eltreth put up another barrier and likely another subroutine trap attached to it. Computers to disable.

Vetch is annoyed after Abe's fiddlefaddling leads to him getting shocked, especially after Vetch had just found a quiet place to rest. He jumps up, annoyed, from his resting spot.

"Oh, like you're so pure with 'Household Appliances Get Frisky' or 'The Garage Door Opener Flirted With Me'. PLEASE!" Vetch retorts, more vexed by the android with the potential household appliance fetish. "You've always been more interested in the garbage disposal unit than this mission." Vetch recants angrily after the shock.

He also ducks and covers from whatever might happen from Abe's next programmings.

Abe sets back to working on the computer. Making his way through the changing programming and passes the second gate that Eltreth set up. Unfortunately neither himself nor Dash notice that the hologram set up another trap as the northern console explodes. "Almost there." The hologram seems determined as sparks leap out, though this time just at Abe and Dash as it was too far away from the others. The lights and consoles in the room flicker as if they are just about to lose power.

Abe is getting well ahead of Eltreth though as he shunts off the final programming. Lastly, the holographic image of Osteth begins to overlay that of Eltreth. The voices of each avatar interrupt one another as the volume of Eltreth fades and that of Osteth grows louder. Eventually, as the lights begin to stabilize and Abe withdraws his datajack from the console, only Osteth remains on the dais.

“Thank you, travelers. With Eltreth returned to his containment, the Gate of Twelve Suns is one step closer to being safe from the predations of those marauders. Now that I have access to the gate’s full sensor suite, I can detect that some of them are still within the system. They are within the core facility of Gate 2’s controller moon, an underground facility where my colleagues could adjust the gravitational pulses emanating from the planetoid’s center when necessary. Since my inception as an artificial intelligence, physical presences have been unnecessary in those facilities, with the exception of standard maintenance bots, of course.”

Osteth’s form flickers for a moment. “It seems as though the marauders have briefly commandeered some of those robots to help them in their quest. I installed semi-autonomy in their programming before Eltreth was released in the hopes of slowing these maniacs down, but it looks to be now that I am completely locked out. It is only a matter of time before our enemies retrieve an intact control board required to repair the controls that open the Stellar Degenerator’s demiplane. You must stop them!”

Osteth brings up a map of the core facility. “My sensors register nine organic life forms in the facility as well as a few anomalous energy signals that I cannot translate."

“My new friends, with much time over the past few days in my confinement to think, I have come to a difficult conclusion. The Stellar Degenerator must be destroyed. Even if this Cult of the Devourer were defeated this day, there is no guarantee the location of the Gate of Twelve Suns will stay hidden. The sivv superweapon cannot be trusted with any people, no matter how peaceful and well intentioned they might be.” She grows somber for a moment. “Though the events happened before I was born, I heard tales of when the kishalee used the Degenerator to ‘pacify’ a terrible enemy that threatened us with obliteration, and the results convinced my people to hide the weapon away.”

Osteth’s image disappears, and the entire room is filled with a holographic display of an unknown solar system. Her voice continues. “Some were killed instantly, caught in the energy transference beam when the Stellar Degenerator turned their sun into a black dwarf.” The hologram shows a ray of light streaking in from outside of the system and hitting the sun. This tether pulses with energy, tearing apart starships and even moons in its general vicinity. “Those were the lucky ones. Within a week, temperatures across the system dropped to below freezing, and with no sun to sustain it, plant life began to die shortly thereafter.” The sun at the center of system shrinks and grows dark. Digital displays appear near each of the system’s ten planets, showing the decrease in temperature and light levels. “Hundreds of millions eventually starved to death or were killed in skirmishes over food.” Another numerical display shows a rising death count. “The mass of the black dwarf wasn’t enough to keep its planets in orbit, and eventually, they started to drift outward, spinning erratically into the inky depths.” In the hologram, the orbits of the system’s frozen planets wobble, and the farthest world disappears off the map. “A terrible way for a people to go extinct.”

The lights in the chamber return to normal as Osteth reappears on her dais. “So you can see why the Stellar Degenerator must be destroyed. But to do so, we must first open the gate. Will you help me this one last time?”

With that the group now has the time to rest as Osteth tells her tale.

Abe grunts as the electricity gets through, a bit. He listens to Osteth’s story, and nods at the end. ”Aye, we’ll help you. Do you know how far along they are? ‘Cause after this fight, we’re rather low on resources I think. Not sure a ten or twenty minute break is going to cut it.”

”But if they’re too far along, I suppose we’ll have to go quickly.”

He’ll at least insist on a ten minute break so he can rest himself, and do a little work on Messalina. (-1 resolve) If he’s able, he’ll take another ten minutes to work on Messalina further (Repair drone, 17hp more healing).

Dah rounds on Vetch. ”Why you furry little... Aeeiii!!”

”F@#%!!” Interrupted by arcing electricity, Dash hits the floor again, this time crawling away from the danger zone. Every circuit in his body feels like it’s about to burn out.

”You got this now Abe? Ok, good work. You’re promoted. Vetch, you’re demoted. Anyone know what rank is below ensign?”

Dash lays smoldering like toaster full of plastic as Osteth resumes control and explains what’s next. ”Ok, great. Just gonna take a little reboot time. Right here. On this floor. We’ll save the galaxy after.”

Vetch holds up his hands, wondering *one* thing.

"I'm happy to help destroy the Degenerator as much as anybody...but is it possible to have it destroy just goblins? I mean, it *might* be possible, and after that were done, I'd happy completely destroy the device, but if it can be localized to exterminate certain pests, that would be keen..." Vetch asks the simulated intelligence.


Zane doesn't need a scientist

Sorta sounds like dead planets and spinning planets going off the map. The Zane don't know about this thing, but it sounds darn near impossible to have it just work on goblins.

But if anyone is smart enough to make that happen, it's ABE.

Osteth brings up a map with several calculations scrolling across it. "It will take half of one of your days to reach Gate 2's controller moon." Enough for your 8 hour rest to reset everything

"As you have seen you are unable to target a specific species. Just destroy entire systems." Osteth frowns deeply. "You should retrieve the control board those cultists are likely seeking. With the missing piece of equipment, I can activate the Gate of Twelve Suns and release the Stellar Degenerator so that it can be destroyed once and for all."

She then brings up the image of a sheet of dull gray metal and ceramic about 3 feet long and 1 foot wide. Its surface is traced with unusual circuitry that forms various triangular patterns. "When this control board is inserted into the proper machinery, the firmware in its circuitry works in concert with the firmware in other control boards to regulate the gravitational pulses..." she pauses as most of the Kish faces return blank stares. "...to reveal the weapon for all to see. Just bring this back here and I will show you what to do with it then."

Dash continues to lay on the ground demoting everyone on the spot, including Xix, who looks excited to be demoted. She gives him a rousing fistbump.

He chuckles at his 'promotion', wondering briefly what any of their ranks are. He shakes his head at Vetch's darkest desires, glad they won't come to fruition any time soon. And he thanks The Zane for the compliment. "Not sure I understand it either Zane. This is pretty complicated stuff!"

Later, he's pleased, "Excellent! We'll have time to rest. Draka, why don't you stand guard, and then hang back, while the rest of us take on this one. You can film us from the ship." he suggests.

"Let's search this area for loot before we leave, and head to the moon. Might be we see a fire fight up there, so we'll have to be on our toes when we get close."

That said, he's ready to rest. He sets the ship on autopilot, with alarms well before their destination so no one oversleeps. He'll spend another resolve point and ten more minutes fixing Messalina back up to snuff before turning in and getting some much needed shut-eye.


Zane doesn't need a scientist

Zane snores. He fought and rested, fought and rested, fought and rested. it was a long day. While resting can be nice, sleeping is the real deal.

Per Abe’s suggestion, Vetch takes his time to help search the area, sticking his nose everywhere and in every small crevice to find anything of interest.

Vetch also rests, curling up in a ball under Abe’s desk, very rarely farting silently in his sleep. He will pilot the ship to the moon, as appropriate.

Does anyone need real healing before sleep? If so, Vetch will spend 10 minutes (he can do it twice) to heal up a s#*% ton of hp magically.

Zane needs the healing before sleep. Even with the trap save, he was deep into real hitpoints.

Draka grabs ahold of Xix by her collar as she goes to follow you all back to the Sunrise Maiden. The little Ysoki looks excited and then very, very disappointed as she pouts. Draka speaks up as she looks exhausted. "I'll stay put here and keep an eye on this crazy Ysoki and the hologram. Make sure they don't do any funny business."

Xix is certainly not happy to be wrestled to the ground and hog-tied. In fact, she reverts back to murderous rants and "Just wait 'til my brother..." sorts of threats. But Osteth seems relieved that nothing will be chewing through her cables and conduits while you're gone. She enlists the two SROs to stay behind and begin fortifying the compound from wildlife intrusions.

The trip back to the Sunrise Maiden is uneventful. Lift off is surprisingly difficult, taking a couple of hours, due to the massive gravity being generated by the planetoid as it gets closer to aligning with the Gate of Twelve Suns. Navigating to the nearest moon takes another 8 hours, affording all of you a chance to get a full rest after setting the coordinates into the computer's system.

DC 15 Computers:
A scan of the planetoid shows no atmosphere and no signs of life.

There are no obvious kishalee-made buildings like those on Gate 1’s controller moon, but there is a metal hatch—large enough for a Medium or smaller starship to fly through—in the planet’s surface near the equator, similar to where the control center on Gate 1’s controller moon was located. Further scans reveal an underground complex (with a breathable atmosphere and full gravity) located deep within the planet. The hatch begins to open as soon as you fly their vessel toward it, revealing a tunnel illuminated by strips of lights.

It takes a couple of hours to fly into the hatch and through the tunnel to a spot where it branches off into three sets of hangar bay doors. A red light glows above the center door, while green lights shine above the other two doors.

You can chose to enter either from the eastern or western hangar.

A few particles of dust swirl within this cavernous hangar bay. Its walls are made of a smooth, unknown metal without a trace of rivets or seams. A set of ship-sized doors stands opposite a smaller pair of convex doors.

As Vetch can restore 55 hp twice (once with his staff), he will also tend to Xix as well. He does his best with her hands paws, trying his best.

He jumps into the pilots chair and, not waiting for Dash to belt himself in, bump the ship forward, then a hard stop when he remembers that he might not know where they are going.

”Sorry, got a little excited there,” Vetch chitters. He set the ship to autopilot and then curl under Abe’s desk for rest.

He chooses the western hangar, wondering how there are even directions to have in space, as if there was a center to the world or points on map.

He preps for yet more forays into death and yelling and craziness, ensuring his batteries are charged and he’s had not one, but two, hot chocolates.


"Thanks Draka!"

Abe sleeps soundly and arises early to check in. (Auto make the computer check)

"A scan of the planetoid shows no atmosphere, so make sure you're suits are sealed. No signs of life either, so it might just be androids down there. Let's try the western hangar, shall we?"

He waits until the ship sets down in case there are any hostilities. Then he arms the automatic defenses, arms himself, and is ready to explore.

Zane steps out onto the platform.

He stares into the cameras that Draka is controlling from the ship.

He turns to Abe and Messelinamostly giving eye contact to Messelina.
The fans should make a Messelina flag too. Wat'cha think ABE? What da think Messelina? You were BALLIN' in that last fight.


Abe chuckles and has Messlaina bow, in a way, to The Zane. "Oh, I don't think either of us want a flag of our own. Perhaps, if the group had a flag, we could paint it on our ship. In that case, I'd see hoisting something up on Messalina's rear most antenna - there." he points where he means.

"A visual marker of who we are would be pretty cool I think. We are, after all, getting a reputation - at least on the vids." he chuckles.

Vetch maneuvers the Maiden into the western hanger with ease. there is plenty of room in the extravagant space. Surprisingly the air within here reads out to be breathable and a full gravity is set in place.

A smaller airlock built within the hangar bay doors can fit four Medium creatures or one Large creature.


"Fancy, very fancy." Abe murmurs as he walks toward the convex doors. He sends Messalina around the hanger once to get a visual of the place, and check for anything wayward in the corners while he watches on his vid screens.

Vetch takes the ship down, or at least close enough and carefully parks her. He makes sure she’s locked down before exiting the pilot’s chair, not wanting her to be stolen.

He readies his pistol for trouble as he scurries out. He’s ready to scout, but also is sort of waiting for Dash to issue commands for him to ignore. It doesn’t feel right without doing the opposite of what Dash directs.

Can’t move on map now but... Vetch scurries over to the top of the doorway, keeping quiet as he scouts ahead.

If there’s a plan, Dash is holding it close to the vest. The only thing the captain seems interested in is some tunes buzzing through his personal iCom. He shuffles and struts along, softly singing to himself as the crew disembark and enter the airlock. As everyone checks weapons, he checks his magic, cracking knuckles and shaking out any muscle stiffness in his body.
