Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

Thanks for the heads up but I should be good to go but if a day or 2 passes with no post from me go ahead and bot as appropriate.

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

sorry this conversation is dragging out a bit. it is a pretty interesting bit of roleplay though! these social interactions/investigations can be as interesting as combat sometimes. but a lot harder for the GM to make believable.

Female Human (Taldan) Bard 5 (archaeologist) Portrait

Btw, Kragg, I just noticed you were the GM of that WotR game I joined as a mage.

Lol didn’t even realize that. I will have a post up tonight moving us onward.

I am having a look at the island map and have some questions.

Do you have a list on what do you expect to find on each of the letters? And does the different coloring conceal some information like where have you been before and where not?

Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

You know that is a good question. We have had clues as to what may be there but I have not tracked them. As for the different colors I was thinking it was areas already explored at one point

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

the coloring is to mark where you have been. I forgot to change the color on the underground lab, fixed that now.

as Kragg said, you have some clues (mostly from Carver - a member of the Pathfinder Society here tracking down some ancient sites/relics) as to what you might see in these other places. to refresh everyone:

A - an abandoned Ulfen settlement that Durvin Gest described as having an "unsettling presence"

B - a cave full of unusual etchings and murals and what looked like an archeological excavation by the Azlanti themselves. maybe an even more ancient civilization?

--most of the other locations brought up by Carver have been explored. you also know of:
G - this is the lair of a water Naga who the locathah told you about. she used to inhabit the ship that you fought the Sahaugin in.

K - this is approximately where the lost fisherman found himself before working his way back tot he colony. he described a large number of giant bones, possibly whale bones that had been used to build some sort of shelters.

L - a mountain in the center of the island. supposedly an ancient observatory and also the location of the Hag that is behind some of the dangers you have faced on the island so far.

sorry, I know it is a little cruel to have the lead yanked away like this. gotta keep an eye on those prisoners!

I actually considered having her just attack you guys when you wouldn't just leave her home and leave it up to the dice whetehr you were able to keep from killing her outright. but when no one made any plans to keep a close watch on her other than guards making sure she didn't leave her home, this felt like a good alternative!

I think it was fine. It was either scripted or the GM judged that was best working for the group. Either way that means its death was not important to resolve the mystery in the long run.

That said, I am not much into thrillers, which means I do not have much experience/ideas on how to deal with such a case. I will mainly follow whatever others advise have on how to proceed forward.

I guess we can attempt to use some Sense Motive around to see if someone behaves oddly, but it will lock us again in the situation of us accusing someone without really knowing. There might be either some clue we are missing, or a good ruse that can force a shifter to commit an error and expose its cover.

Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

The only thing I can do is detect evil and scan the colony for those that reveal themselves as such. Then zone of truth as we planned.

As for the blood draws and testing it, I am not sure if you would rule that the blood is a different color or coagulates differently etc. No real scientific stuff but normal close visual, olfactory, and touch evaluations.

Agree with Lolito that it is not a major problem but IC just annoying as hell. Just have to make our own luck now and be more forceful with Ramona.

Regretfully detect evil will only work if they are level 5 or higher.

Lara, by any chance you would not have access to the blood biography spell, isn't it?

Otherwise, we would probably have to wait a level or so before resolving all this mystery. Fortunately for us, it happens dead bodies often answer questions more easily than alive ones ;)

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

with the discovery of the Faceless stalkers and the story points achieved in this return to the colony, the group has enough XP to bump up to 5th level!

please update your characters and post here when finished so I know you're set. at the same time, please remember to update the slides with any updates to your saves, Perception, AC, HP, etc. i use those pre-set rolls and the character tracker for everything, but i leave keeping it up to date to the players.

I know Lolito and Alyn are quite new to the game, but the party was very very close ot leveling up after that crater encounter. i usually like ot use story-based XP, but for this open-ended sandbox of a book I am actually tracking XP.

continue hashing out which loose end you want to examine next while leveling, I will move us forward as soon as a location is chosen.

Was there any results from Kragg using detect magic as he walks through town? That will kind of dictate what his next actions are and if he is ready to leave to take care of other business.

Great! I will not have enough time to level until Wednesday though.

I do also agree tracking XP works better for sandbox adventures than any other kind of adventures.

As for going forward, although I really love roleplaying scenes, after more than 3 months playing without being able to measure Lolito in combat I would be grateful to go try something different and explore the island.

I am a late arrival though, I am willing to keep behind and follow the major characters of the show on what they see as best or more fun.

Ok people. I finally had time to fully read your whole campaign thread. Along the way I wrote down notes in Ancorato's map for all locations you have uncovered so far. I hope you find it helpful.

You are a wonderful group and what you have been doing was a really interesting read. Kragg, your drive and engagement with the story is awesomely remarkable, I was gratefully surprised by your odd-balls and deep analysis of many situations. Thame, I liked the counterpoint your character poses to the group, and the deep description of most of your posts, Thame's thoughts and many of his sentences were drawing a constant smile on me. Lara, your resourcefulness is paramount, I enjoyed how you took control of the construct spy and your constant awareness and resolve to help the team.

It is sad you have lost Kaldan and Trieste along the way. I feel they had a lot of roleplaying potential.

I cannot substitute any of them, but it would be a shame not seeing this campaign going through til the end. Count on me on trying to help smooth up things and keeping an engaging pace, at the best of my PbP knowledge.

After reading your adventures at full and seeing all your mutual struggle and good roleplaying I feel this campaign a little bit mine even if I did not started it from level 1. Long life to the Talmandor's Protectors!

I was going to check on this before and never actually did. are any of you currently listening to the Glass Cannon podcast that is playing through this AP? they are currently in the same book as us. their GM has taken some interesting angles on some of the things in the book. if I'm going to steal any of his ideas i want to make sure it isn't stuff you all already see coming...

I think the three first objects are the most interesting:
- a clear spindle ioun stone
- pearl dolphin figurine of wondrous power
- +1 ring of protection

If we are not in great need of improving our defenses, the figurine might be helpful to easily maintain the communication with the colony, the naga or the locathah while we are travelling around.

Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

Interesting options. I am almost thinking the shawl would be my choice. Something about it just screams campaign plot item. I agree though that for us the ring or dolphin seems the most usable.

Vote is for the shawl though.

Human Wizard (Illusionist) 5 | HP 27/27 | AC 12 T 12 FF 10 | F +2 R +3 W +4 | CMB +2 CMD 14 | Init +2 | Perception +0

I vote for the dolphin. The shawl is definitely built for the campaign (as is the dolphin, I believe) and thematically seems cool, but we have plenty of access to swim-like spells and abilities, I think.

Female Human (Taldan) Bard 5 (archaeologist) Portrait

I mean, the Aztlant artwork that names a governor seems plot-related, too, at least to me.

But I am indifferent.

Looking from an adventure design point of view, letting the players choose between a few items and being one of those a quest item you might left behind would be a terrible design choice.

Unless we already knew which item we are required to pick. But from my recent read of the Gameplay, nothing stands out.

Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

Perhaps Lara with a great diplomacy can convince her of 2 items since we did lose a party member to clear out the ship or if she won’t take direct action that can be her form of helping.

Of course the dolphin sounds good as well. Let’s just hope the shawl is also not a nereid’s shawl or we may be screwed.

Female Human (Taldan) Bard 5 (archaeologist) Portrait

Worth a shot.

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

it was a good thought. they even included a diplomacy DC in the module for convincing her to part with an extra item. unfortunately Lara's roll was not very close to hitting that DC.

Male dwarf Cleric 5 38, saves 8/3/9 AC 19/10/19

Sorry Lara . Didn’t mean to make you out to be the bad the guy.

Also was she acceptable to the idea of depositing some ash in her home that was Kaldan. I did not see a response to that.

Now as a player I am really paranoid that the shawl is a nereid’s after the naga says that she collects items of personal interest of others. Let’s just try and find some art to trade for it. In the meantime go with the dolphin figurine.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Female Human (Taldan) Bard 5 (archaeologist) Portrait

No problem. Also, Lara has a Drawback that means she is Shaken for the next hour after failing a Diplomacy check.

Ruins of Azlant Maps and Info

I missed that question. I am a little confused, are you asking to scatter ashes here in this grotto, or back at the shipwreck?

she's leaving this area pretty much for good, she could care less what you do with the grotto. she just wants to go back to her shipwreck
