Lolito |

I have been there, it is tough, I can just send my best energies!
Yes, Lolito will open the southern doors to the central room.
I have adjusted Lolito and Thame tokens accordingly.

GM Strikes Back |

I have found another player to fill in Thame's spot once you are finished with this tower. they will be playing an archanist/swashbuckler character that will be arriving on the next supply ship once you get back to the colony.
Assuming Thame survives this series of encounters, he will likely retire like Trieste and still be around the colony just not actively going on missions anymore.

Lolito |

Sounds good!
If we manage to defeat the hag and conquer the tower, perhaps Thame can make it his own Tower of Sorcery in New Azlant :)
He will be busy refurnishing it, giving explanation of why he stops adventuring with us!

Derym Morcant |

I'll be a little behind a full caster, but a little ahead of a magus as casting (but full caster level).
Happy to be invited.

Lolito |

Welcome to our exploration of Azlant, Calli... Derym! :D
I am sure that spell-casting will suffice.

Derym Morcant |

Thanks, Sa--Lolito ;)
Now to avoid getting into too many arguments with my sword. ;)

Alyn Ellor |

Welcome, Derym it looks like we are in another game together!

Lara Evangeline |

Yeah, funny how we all end up in the same games with each other...Arigoder.

Derym Morcant |

I'm just that proverbial bad penny. ;)

Alyn Ellor |

Agree my pool of PBP players keeps shrinking but the games tend to get better.

Derym Morcant |

I certainly won't complain about being on people's list of good players ;)

GM Strikes Back |

i have definitely started looking for new/replacement PCs out of the consistent players in my current game after a string of players that have flaked out of my games or who have been actively disruptive. just so much easier to keep playing with people I know will be good for the game.

GM Strikes Back |

And we're off to a fast start with the boss fight! Lolito took a big hit for the team, but now it's your turn!

Lolito |

Lolito's bracers of armor provide a +1 armor bonus. Depending of whether you judge this bonus to count as a force effect like mage armor, it can help protect against incorporeal touches. Of course, if these are not incorporeals, then the difference is moot :)
It won't help on this first round, the 16 would still hit him while flat-footed.

Lolito |

what knowledge checks needed in the most and the hag. Depending on what they are will alter what spell I may cast or attack
I guess nature for the hag, the other ones might be religion, dungeon or even planes...
May I suggest you just roll and let the GM use the correct bonus? Also, adding a couple possible actions depending on your guesses, it might help, because the GM does not post on weekends and with the back and forth we others might end idle most of the week waiting for what the creatures are, what actions Kragg takes, and then finally the first round recap.

GM Strikes Back |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

yes, as Lolito says it makes it a lot easier if there are a couple of different actions you would take based on the info you gather or based on something like a save vs another PC's spell, etc that you put them both in so i can resolve them without taking more time for a back and forth. either in spoilers or as you did are both fine.
unfortunately it is hard for me to post on weekends most of the time. i know that can be a drag during a big fight like this one, so thank you all for bearing with me.

Lolito |

As described the ability that hit Lolito sounds as color spray. If that is the case, he has 6 HD so it should be only 1 turn of stun, but maybe the hag has something special power, because I know there are ways to improve the HD limit.
Regardless, Lolito's dragon stance gives him a +2 vs sleep, paralysis and stunning, and Still Mind gives him +2 vs all enchantment effects, in case it makes any difference :P

GM Strikes Back |

@Lolito the color spray is not an enchantment spell, and the bonus against stunning effects was not enough to prevent it this time. the spell is modified and will affect you, it's spelled out a little bit in the spoiler tag for spellcraft.
@Lara for the saving throw against the Hag, please update the stats on the tracker with any changes to your saves. whatever the bonus is on the tracker is what i use. would also be helpful to put in the numerical bonus on luck instead of listing it as "+ luck" as that saves me from having to look up your archetype. the Fate's Favored also did not factor in because i didn't look over your whole sheet to see that it would increase your luck bonus.
Also for your lucky bonus, where are you tracking that? since it works like a bard performance there is a limited number of rounds per day it can be active, but I am not sure where i can see how much you have left for the day and if it is active.
It would be helpful for me if you would
1. call out the swift action when you take it to activate your bonus (in this combat you added lucky as a modifier to your attack roll, but it's easy to miss that when looking for modifiers to the defense side of the game.
and 2. track your rounds remaining of your bonus either in your header or at the end of your post in OOC tags like what Lolito has for his active effects. this will make it much easier for me to see what all you have going on and not have to retcon saves that didn't include the right bonuses.

Ansha |

I had been wondering where this combat tracker was, but I see that it's on one of the slides. I've updated Lara's info on there, including her current/max HP (41, not 28) and saves (including the +3 for Archaeologist's Luck, though it's situational whether that luck bonus is in effect and so it may not always apply to saving throws, hence why I only referenced it in the past on the tracker, and didn't include the actual number).
In the past, I've tracked Archaeologist's Luck in the body of each post, but I've fallen out of the habit. I've included it in my most recent post.

Lolito |

Understood! I had not opened the spoiler, thus it left me wondering, but yeah, I know that revelation, one of my players in Shackled City has it too! :D
It seems Lolito will be of no help this combat people, sorry!

Alyn Ellor |

GM Lolito is closer but Trick is the closest in reach can I attack Trick?

GM Strikes Back |

a couple things Kragg on your actions
you would need a spellcraft check to ID the spell as it's being cast to know what is happening to Alyn. Technically the command is supposed to be mental, not spoken.
second, from where you are you can't reach Alyn for a trip as it crosses 2 diagonal squares making it 15' of distance
and third, he would still be able to make an attack while prone, so doing this wouldn't prevent the attack, and with the two targets being down the penalty to attacking from being prone probably won't be the difference-maker.
feel free to redo your action. if you want to do the trip you will need a spellcraft roll and you'll need to move closer.
@Alyn, from the spell wording I believe it is just the closest ally period. so Alyn would need to make a step back then attack with the spear on Lolito.
@Lara, yes this is the same day as the previous couple of combats, I don't believe you have rested since venturing into the bleeding forest. if i am forgetting a rest, let me know! it has been a bit of time IRL

Kragg Stoneheart |

Maybe the map isnt updating for me but I have Alyn diagonal 1 square from Kragg. With Kragg stepping back 5ft that still leaves me within range of my longspear.
I also show that Alyn has no ally next to him but me currently.
Sorry about no spellcraft I took the raspy common to be out loud and pretty obvious. Will post one here now.

Lolito |

Wow! That's a clever move and it really changes the flow of the round Kragg, and might help a lot against the hag.
Lara, does Archeologist trade away the Distraction bardic performance? I tell from memory but I do think it might help Trick and Lolito against the color spray.
As for Thame, I think, perhaps casting cat's grace on Lara next? Otherwise I think using the blinding ray against the hag, because the other spells won't help much in this circumstances.
We said goodbye today the character Thame was using in the other campaign we were sharing.

Alyn Ellor |

I built this fighter to be hard to mind control but I can roll for beans.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Thanks Lolito. Go ahead and run Thame as cats grace on Lara sounds great. Better chance for her to hit and kill the mists. Once they are gone the hag will be easy to take down.
No more mind controlling us for the next minute and Kragg can protect Lolito and Trick until they recover.

Lolito |

GM I just realized I have the reroll trait Set Mind.
Will: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 28
Note GM Strikes Back already used your Set Mind reroll for the first attempt on the murderous command.

Alyn Ellor |

Good catch thanks.

GM Strikes Back |

this is a bad day for Alyn! doesn't seem to matter if he's rolling or I'm rolling for him. everything is getting through on him...
Luckily the hag is looking to be on her last legs and has no allies left!

Lolito |

C'mon Azlants, she is alone and cornered! :D

Alyn Ellor |

What trash luck. I invested so much in his saves and I could have a negative number for all it is doing me. :P
Someone save us.

Lara Evangeline |

Just a heads-up: I'm having surgery tomorrow morning and will probably be out of it until Tuesday. I'm recuperating from home afterward so I should be posting again by Tuesday, but bot me as needed.

Alyn Ellor |

Best of luck. Take the time to heal well.

Lolito |

Get cared Lara and rest! See you around soon :)

Lolito |

Seeing the map it seems faster to visit the colony first. It will also allow us to add Derym to the team.

Derym Morcant |

Seeing the map it seems faster to visit the colony first. It will also allow us to add Derym to the team.
I certainly don't hate that, but don't rush on my account -- if there's a different decision that makes more sense, I can wait a little longer.

GM Strikes Back |

Derym, feel free to jump in at any point now that they have returned to the colony.

Derym Morcant |

Excellent. Time to start talking to my sword. ;)

Kragg Stoneheart |

chest full of coins and gems. 1,700 gold in assorted denominations of coinage.
+1 chain shirt
+1 light steel shield claimed
+1 shortsword claimed
a silver statue of desna and pharasma locked in an embrace worth 600gp exchanging to naga
Did anyone claim the chain shirt? Otherwise we sell it for 625 and total that with the coins of 1700= 2325. Split 4 ways you all get 600 and Kragg gets 525. Now I can afford to hire the help.

Lolito |

Lolito sure does not. He will benefit more from 'mage armor' spell than anything else.
I guess Lara might be interested.

Lara already has a mithral chain shirt +1, so it wouldn't be if use to her either. May as well sell the generic chain shirt +1.

Minor thing - despite the image (and being amphibious), Derym looks human (per the Mostly Human racial trait) -- nobody's called out his inhumanity, but figured I'd mention it.

Alyn Ellor |

Thanks for the heads up.

Lara Evangeline |

Thank you all for your concern, Ramona says I am sure it is probably nothing, she probably just lost track of time. I should check on her though, in case she isn't feeling well. I am busy, but these papers can wait. it will be much quicker with her help anyways
Ramona locks her door behind her and starts towards the shore with the party, heading towards the assistant's house.
Not far from Ramona's home, the party is approached by a group of townsfolk who gather around you in a circle.
Did Ramona follow Kragg and Lolito to the bar, or did Lara, Alyn, and Derym accidentally trigger a teleportation circle trap and not realize it?

GM Strikes Back |

It looks like it got a little bit muddled up where everyone was. that's my bad, hard to keep track of where everyone is when the party is split up in a scene that takes place over many days in real time...
I missed the part where Kragg and Lolito had already left and gone to the bar, and thought that soomehow everyone ended up together and were asking Ramona what her assistant looked like. i see now that they were asking amongst themselves.
unfortunately i can't go back now to edit, but we can write it off as a confused/tired GM and say that Ramona is not with you after all. no real need for her to be with you, other than she knows where the assistant lives.
