Just an update for you. I've had Meniere's disease for 30 years now. I haven't had a bad spell in over 5 years but last week it flared up again and put me on my back.
It's fading again and from experience I should be good to go in a day or two. Thanks for your patience.

GM Strikes Back |

these things are absolutely ridiculous. this encounter is set as a very challenging one for your level (again), but still.
Believe it or not, I'm actually a nice GM who toned these things down a bit...
I'm listening to a podcast where they are playing through this AP, and this encounter was almost a TPK for them as well. it's not looking great for you guys, but maybe Kragg can pull this one off?

Trieste Carre |

well, the sahaugin were almost a tpk, the aboleth controlled guys were essentially a tpk, and this one is maybe headed that way. I appreciate that it isn't easy, but oof! I'm hoping we do pull this out

GM Strikes Back |

It doesn't help that you guys ended up picking two challenges that were better suited for level 5 IMO.
on the plus side, it means you are getting close to levelling up quicker than normal, and will find some of the later encounters much easier because they were maybe designed for level 4 parties.
but in the end you pulled this one off, and with no PC deaths! though Trieste is really not looking great...

Hengeist Karlsson |

Sorry to have to say this but I'm going to be dropping out. Between my health issues and real life I simply don't have the time I used to for gaming.
I hope the game keeps going and that you all have fun.

GM Strikes Back |

I'm sorry to hear that, but I totally get it. you have to take care of yourself. we'll be sorry to see you go.
to the rest of the party, do you want to continue as a party of 4 now, or should I look to recruit a 5th?

Lara Evangeline |

Sorry to see you go, Hengeist. As for the party, I'm okay with 4 or 5, either way.

Thame Smythe |

We can recruit a 5th, if everyone is cool with that. Or I can rebuild Thame as more of an offensive caster. Or both...seems like the spells I've taken aren't providing much utility against most of the things we're fighting.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Perhaps better to recruit than to have 2 of us take different paths. I was still planning on taking a more prominent role on the front lines anyways. For me it is a slight change in spells. When combat is imminent than take divine favor instead of comprehend languages. Will just need to get a wand of comprehend languages at some point.

GM Strikes Back |

mt preference would be to have 5 as well. I'll start a new recruiting thread today. with 4 full casters in the group you definitely need some martial ability.

Lara Evangeline |

Well, Lara is less a caster and more a skill-monkey. She's also the main ranged combatant and soon to be the sole trap-finder.

GM Strikes Back |

Feel free to weigh in on the applications we've gotten. there were a lot of interested people in a short amount of time.
let me know if any of them stand out as being particularly interesting or off-putting. or if you have played with any of the players before and how they are in that regard.
you can give me your opinions here in the discussion or by PM

Kragg Stoneheart |

Adizog and Sophone are my top 2 right now. However I will admit biased ness as I am not familiar with some of the archetypes presented by others and thus how they would mesh with the current party. I personally am looking more straightforward melee characters and not such as warpriest or eidolons. Also I have no idea what a kineticist even is in this game.

Thame Smythe |

I would be happy with either Aldizog or Sophone, as Kragg said. I liked Alyn's concept, as well. I'll also confess a limited understanding of kineticists or even goliath druids, so take that into consideration.

Trieste Carre |

Ooo, some nice entries. I really like Sophone, too. I feel like her attitude would fit in well with this particular group and I'm a fan of non-traditional fighter-types. I really like Alyn's build (full disclosure, Grandlounge's in another AP I'm in and I like his style). The combination of archetypes looks interesting and I'm sure he would play it well. I think Aldizog/(Korug) would be perfectly acceptable as well. I like Shadi, but I may be a little territorial about adding another druid.

Alyn Ellor |

Hi all,
Thank you for inviting me to join. The character is mostly up. I will put the finishing touches on the gear tonight.
Alyn came over with The Bountiful Venture Company in the second wave of colonists as a warrior scholar for the explicit purpose of protecting expeditions, while not being a burden to the academic workload. I'm happy to work with whatever plot hooks your like to have Alyn enter the game.
Thanks again.

Lara Evangeline |

Welcome Alyn!
Lara is also a Taldan scholar-type, so she may know Alyn from the University of Oppara or the like. Her family were well-known archaeologists before their deaths, so the surname may at least be familiar to him.

Alyn Ellor |

That works very well as he is the son of two scholars from Arcanamirium in Absalom, just across the water. He was not quite smart enough to be a researcher at the university, in his own right, but was a competent research assistant, so I assume they are casually acquainted. Their parents likely knew each other well, either personally or academically.

Thame Smythe |

Hello and welcome, Alyn! Glad to have another meat shield along to hide behind! :)
Thame is another researcher/scholar, but from Cheliax and with a bent toward the arcane side of Azlanti artifacts. I would expect that the two might have a polite relationship with one another, but not much more.

Alyn Ellor |

Ayn would have some overlapping interests but neither the breadth or depth that a dedicated arcane practitioner like Thame would have. Thame is very much the type of person he is here to help so Alyn would see his as something like a boss, especially in research situations.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Due to his long life Kragg is a pretty mellow individual as he has seen much. He tries to always maintain a steady demeanor. Whether this is from hisbdwarven nature or training in the church odnAbadar though is uncertain. It has served him well thus far and he tries to give that same outlook to the others. His experiences has also given him the opportunity to dabble in multiple knowledges but only specialize in a few.!
Kragg’s other passion outside of being a follower of Abadar is his brewery that he is building in the colony. Currently there is a bar, brewery and common room. There is a 2 drink limit though and no drunkenness or drinks to those scheduled on watch allowed.

Trieste Carre |

hey Alyn, welcome aboard. Trieste is a changeling kraken caller. She's super sensitive about, well, just about everything. She may have threatened to kill/maim Thame a few times, but she likes Kragg and Lara. She keeps getting her hair burned off from fiery villains, and is pretty pissed about that. She's trying to learn patience and cooperation. And she has a caiman familiar, Jobert (with the French pronunciation of -ert). As a long-time sailor and follower of Besmara, she's a bit piratical herself. She's also trying to see if she can get Kragg to loosen up on his 2 drink limit, even if just once a month... or week.

Alyn Ellor |

Kragg, Alyn is a rule follower by nature. It is either and lack of force of personality or lack of life experience. Either way, he would always stick to the two drink limit. Until he more more sure of his skills he is inclided to follow the lead of others which usually means standing in front of the group. Their is a reason he has keen senses.
Hey Trieste. Channgling druid pirate is awesome. Alyn will try not to step on any toes. Alyn is likely to just take any yelling on the chin but he would try to avoid it.

Alyn Ellor |

Alyn is on it. "Ya, I don't mind make coffee."

Kragg Stoneheart |

In the interest of time I am posting this here. I cast bulls strength on myself and use a crowbar and take 20. That gives me a 26 on my break dc an aid from anyone else gives me the 28. Pop both doors open and move on?

GM Strikes Back |

Alyn, you can go ahead and start posting now, even before the group runs into you. and yes, you can take the gather information check, as it is just to learn rumors around town. in fact, give yourself a +2 bonus for being in town when things were happening and maybe not hearing the rumors quite as far removed as the others in the party

Kragg Stoneheart |

7 days of earning capital from current buildings...
7d20 + 140 ⇒ (6, 20, 1, 3, 20, 9, 8) + 140 = 207. /10=20.7gp
130+160+120=410gp spent on capital for bath kitchen and laundry.
They take 8, 12, and 8 days to compete respectively.

Alyn Ellor |

Also if anyone wants to go somewhere else or do something else I was just using this as an excuse to join the group. I'm sure there are some runes you all want to track down.

Trieste Carre |

My fellow gamers/adventurers: I hate to have to say this, but I think I’m gonna have to bow out of my PBP games. We all know how real life can rear its ugly head, and I’m just not finding the time to work on my online hobby these days. I can barely keep up with reading posts, let alone posting any actions on my own, and I’d rather not limp along in some half-ass fashion without being able to give the time and energy that these games and our characters deserve. I wish you all the best and thank you for including me in your stories. -Rob

GM Strikes Back |

I'm sorry to hear that. it has been fun having you on the game. good luck with your real life needs. you've been great, if you have more time later and want to get back into games when life calms down again let me know, and I'll try to get you into one of my games

Sadness :( Now who will Lara be roommates with?!

Lolito |

Hello everybody! Thanks a lot for the opportunity to play this adventure with you all!
Lolito arrived with the last wave of colonists. He is set to find about his lost disciple, but he might be found also helping as a carpenter on buildings or the shipyard.
I will now have a look at your current situation in gameplay to try make a better idea of how to enter into action.
Please, don't be shy to share any ideas you have that might help bring Lolito along with the party in their adventures :D

Alyn Ellor |

Lolito and Alyn could be acquainted, coming over around at the same time on the same boat. Maybe they swaped fighting techniques (helping explain Alyn's martial flexibility next level, should he make it that far). This way if they leave town Alyn can recommend bring you along. We can have this be a plan b and try to get you in sooner.

Lolito |

Sorry for finding my own way in :P
I think that works for me Alyn. Lolito is willing to share martial knowledge with others. He is also interested in history and carry scrolls of knowledge with him.

Alyn Ellor |

Perfect. I like crazy old man on rooftops.

GM Strikes Back |

the sense motive checks are not going well! everyone must be really distracted by something

posting this on all of my PbP games:
the last month of the year is very busy for a lot of people with Christmas and vacations and all that goes with that. I will be traveling for the last couple weeks of the year, but will continue to post when possible.
expectations for the rest of the year will be much more relaxed. I will not bot anyone unless asked to, and will hold off on GM posts until everyone has been able to respond to the last post, unless it is a conversation where only a few PCs are asking questions to an NPC or something like that.
once we hit January I will start posting and checkin more regularly again and we can pick back up.
