Do any of the other swabs or other common crew members walk around with weapons or armor on them? Would I be out of place if I walked around in, say, a suit of leather armor?
Arenya |
Sure thing. I'll pick one. Btw, how do I go about influencing Rossie Cusswell. I'd like to do that along with my task for the day.
Arenya |
Wow, she's tough. with 22 I thought she would like me more. Can we improve a NPC's attitude by 2 steps if we beat the DC by 5? Oh well, maybe she didn't like the constant chatter. It's good to be making friends :) Is there anyway we can learn anything about the crew and officers to help us with our diplomacy?
GM Shathira |
I've been running a pretty breakneck pace to begin with so we could get into the flow of things on the ship. Just remember that now it will be split into pretty much two parts, the daytime and nighttime actions. Certain days will have special events, and I'll try to keep moving along. I'll keep going as fast as you guys can post since I can kind of keep an eye on things while at work, but I want to try to give everyone a chance to post for each portion before moving on.
Elias aka 'Eli' |
Pace yourself, chief and I think it's a good idea to let folks catch up. It makes reading hell when some people are skipping forward and others are a half-day back. :)
I'm holding off on posting my night-time actions to see what develops beforehand.
Ri'el |
Yeah, I reckon it's a little difficult at the moment because it's a big ship and we're all spread out. Will try to keep my posts succinct. Any directions on how we can make our posts more helpful to you are welcome too, GM. =)
FiddlersGreen |
One other thing that I will mention. Come mid/late February, my posting will most likely slow down some. My son is expected to be born then, and while I love this game, and this group is awesome? My firstborn takes precedence ;).
Congratulations! And good to know that you'll be giving your family priority over gaming. Would not have it any other way. =D

Sometimes, you really have to question a guy's priorities... Yeesh. :)
(Just kidding, and congratulations!)

That's wonderful. Congratulations! We wouldn't have it any other way :)

If we want to sneak the rum away to try and bribe another crew member what check to we have to make?
Also are we being carefully watched when we drink our rum or is it that we can more or less sneak it away with a bit of skill and luck.

GM Shathira |
If you want to spill the rum without being seen, it's a dc 10 stealth check. If you want to use it as a bribe, I'd treat that as trying to influence a crewmember, and depending on who it is, it may give a bonus, or a penalty. Keep in mind also that if one of Scourge's cronies sees you, that it won't go well ;)

The British Navy used beer for the same reason... It didn't go bad or stake like water would, and, in fact added calories to the sailors' diets

First, grats on the pending little one.
Sorry for the delay in posting this, my token moves just fine and the maps are working alright for me as well so far. For some reason this particular game is not always telling me there are new posts like it should so if I don't reply to something in the discussions forum in particular, send me a pm or something so I see it, gonna have to make myself look at both threads regularly rather than rely on the new post thing.
Arenya |
Arenya is sound asleep awaiting the new day.
GM Shathira |
@Garavaen: If you're gambling, none of the pirates are going to gamble away owing a favor, as too often that comes back to bite the person giving up the favor, especially where the Wormwood is concerned. If you want to influence one of the pirates, it's a bluff, diplomacy or intimidate roll, depending on whether you want to trick them into a better attitude, are honest about wanting to know them or are bullying them into doing what you want. If you just want to know about them to see what makes them tick, that would be sense motive. Any of those is going to be a ship action, either during the day or night, and you get one action at each time. The other ships entertainments can provide you with respect in the pirates eyes, so that you might get bonuses, or penalties to the rolls, depending on how you did in those games.
If there are any questions, most things are listed in the Ship Action document.

Damn my init mod...such a good opportunity for a colour spray there...
Hey Jack, take a 5ft step back on your turn? Hopefully I can catch at least 4 of them in my cone. =)
GM Shathira |
Most of the time I'll do Initiative blocks, but the way the init came up for this it was really split, and I didn't feel like giving the NPCs an advantage by lumping them together would be fair to you PCs, especially with the numbers. If you want to get your attacks in quickly, you can do so, but if your init comes up lower, you may want to put in alternates, in case your intended target goes down.
So say Davina is going after the same target as Eli she may want to say that she'll attack that one, OR attack another. If it comes down to it and a bunch of targets go down, I'll apply the attack to another target.
Ri'el |
When it comes to my turn, if I take too long to post, feel free to put me in the best position for a colour spray that I can get. As long as I can get at least 3 of them, I'm happy to use it. If not, I'll try to catch as many of them as I can with a sleep spell instead.
My DC is 16. =)
GM Shathira |
We'll leave him as a Jack-bot for a while, and see if he comes back. Hopefully this is just a busy time and he'll return. If not, you have the numbers to continue regardless, and if it seems like we need another martial type, I'll recruit, or send out to some of the people that applied but didn't get in.
Arenya |
That sounds fantastic. I shall definitely work on that. That will be fun! That's a great suggestion. I can't believe I'm playing a bard and I didn't think of that myself.
Arenya |
Good. You wouldn't leave me outnumbered against the Aasimar now would you Jack.
Davina Kurikami |
K, so I am curious Ri'el, did you get some inspiration for the "glowing ones" tale from a series of books by David Eddings, or just pull it completely from your butt? It was very well played regardless.
Ri'el |
Heh. I don't think I've read any of Eddings' books. I was more of a Weis & Hickman person, as well as Terry Brooks and Mickey Zucker Reichert. Oh and R. A. Salvatore.
I just figured that the glowy-effect was the only obviously-magical effect I could produce without being detected and made things up from there. XD
Having a decent bluff modifier helped too. =)

Firstly, I have no trouble with both our characters flirting with Sandara. In fact, I'd be just as amused if Sandara starting taking to another NPC, leaving Jack and Ri'el to bond over their shared disappointment (or it might happen anyway since Sandara could very well be the kind of girl that doesn't want to be tied down like that). XD
However, firstly, I'd like to propose that we agree not take it beyond light flirting. I'm mindful that our GM might not be comfortable with or want to script romantic dialogue, and I'd personally also prefer to keep the game family-friendly.
Also, if the GM is comfortable with it and you're really keen on a more developed romance side-story for Jack with Sandara in particular, I'm equally happy to have Ri'el compete with Jack for her attention until we hit level 7, and then bow out of the competition (if that comes to pass, I have an in-game reason in mind for it, and there is a specific reason for the level at which it happens). GM if you're reading this and we decide to steer the story this way, I'll send you a PM about what I intend to happen at level 7. ;)
Keeping in mind that we're trying to weave a good story together, I reckon it'll work best if we let each other know where and how we're trying to steer the narrative and work together as players even whilst our characters compete. =)

Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen was also interested.. And not just because she returned his crossbow... However, being the gritty only-average-charisma deliberately playing it show type clearly won't be terribly helpful.
Elias aka 'Eli' |
LOL. I was thinking we were in Pirates of the Caribbean not The Love Boat. :D
