I need to pose a question to you all. There's a somewhat big event coming up soon, and we have Astein out for a bit longer, and Garavaen leaving very soon. I can leave you some time to RP just amongst the crew and yourselves, until we get our full compliment back to push forward, we can try to push it through in the next couple of days before Garavaen leaves on vacation, or just push through with the people we have available at any given time.
1) Give time to RP, until after people get back from jobs, family, holidays
2) Push now
3) Push through regardless of people gone for various reasons
If we wait and RP, I'll let the RP decide any kind of bonuses to or subtractions from a future diplomacy roll (which I've kind of been doing already).
What I want to do is try to not let things halt. We've had a pretty good rhythm so far, which I know is going to get upset to some degree by the holidays, and I'd like to try to have that stumble be as minimal as possible. I've seen it already in some other games, and want us to "ride out the storm" to put it in nautical terms ;).

If it's what I think it is I would vote for pushing through it as it is a very straightforward event that leaves luttle time for anything but the nescessary rolls. Still I'm good with whatever.

I'm also worried about the game falling apart from lack of momentum, so if you think we can finish up before Garaveen leaving (I assume you mean leaving for a holiday and then coming back rather than leaving the campaign), we should probably push on. If not, some low-tempo RP could work for awhile, but we should probably set a clear date on when we get back into full swing.
Garavaen Drusus |
It's certainly my intent to return after my vacation.
Normally I'd say to squeeze it in, but I don't want a key moment to necessarily be rushed through, and Astein is also missing at the moment.
At the same time, having dozens of orphan profiles, I totally understand the concern about losing momentum, especially in a newt game (where we've already lost a player, also).
So, my vote is: Go for it - but don't try to squeeze it all in. I'll try to be as involved as possible over the next 3 days (RL) and make a good run at it - but if roboGaravaen needs to finish it, then so be it. I'd rather not "see" the end and catch up than cost other people their fun (and I'd really like to have a still-healthy game to come back *to*)
Arenya |
I leave it to Shathira. If you feel we can get through it without spoiling an important moment let go for it, otherwise we can always wait.
Ri'el |
Yeah, I don't want to rush a major event either. If we have 3 days, I reckon the best options are to do as much as we can, and if we cannot complete the event in 3 days, pause until Garaveen returns (but set a date beforehand for when we resume); or to just have a few more days of random events on the ship, and hold off on the big event till Garaveen returns - provided he's not gone for like a month or something. XD
I'm sure Eli would have plenty of fun sowing what discord he can amongst Plugg's crones in the mean time. =)

With the quick responses we usually get to just about anything, I don't think this group is in danger of falling apart. I expected a slow down over the holidays, especially with Astein having to attend to some court cases (I worked for a large law firm, so can totally symapthize). Which is why I wanted to try and ease things into the holidays, and then come out of the flip side with a hunger for more ;)
I'm still fired up about this campaign, and this group. You all have provided some great characters, with some interesting backgrounds that I can pull items from to add some spice to the book as well. So you can rest assured that I'm not going anywhere.
Garavaen Drusus |
True, but you're becoming a "symbol" even more than the rest of us.
(Also, it's time for the roboSlinger. I'll see you all in 9 days).
Astein Longblade |
I'm back. Both cases continued at the last minute so I get to do full trial prep and not have the fun of trial. Ah well.
Posting through the holidays may be a bit sporadic, but I believe I will be much better about keeping up from here on out.
1) Do you feel like the character is growing, and do you feel like you've been given the opportunities to grow?
Yes, the harrowing is lots of fun and Astein truly believes in it fully. He also believes it is his duty to do readings for all who request and that there is guidance within the cards. I appreciate you letting it play a role in NPC attitudes. It takes a block of time to get one done, so I can't do too many at once, but it is a fun aspect of the game for me.
2) In the ongoing story, do you see potential for the character to grow? If yes, what direction do you see them going, and if no, what do you think needs to be there to provide them a goal?
Astein has resigned himself to a life at sea. Ideally on a ship, he would fill the role of navigator or advisor on a ship, never captain. He doesn't have the personality for it. His ideal position would be as a second mate/navigator who the captain trusted to guide him with his readings and knowledge.
3) (usually my favorite) Are there any items from the characters background that you'd like to see injected into the campaign? I'll use Davina as an example. She has an aspect in her background that she's pursuing, and we discussed in PMs how to get that into the game. She's given me a lot of trust and freedom to do so, and I'll do what I can to make sure I don't mess things up. Well, other than in a frustrating, fun character way ;)
Eventually, I hope that he is able to use some divination through his cards, though Witches don't get as many of those spells as I would like. I'm having fun with him as a fatalist fortune teller.

Wow, I didn't realise we had that many lawyers in this group. The holidays actually make it easier for me to post since Court is on vacation.
Garavaen Drusus |
Now that I'm back, should I roll Garavaen's climb/rigging rolls, or is it safe to assume he's been ok so far?
Also, I assume since I didn't recover rope, I didn't get the grapling bolts back when I was given my crossbow?
Arenya |
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!
GM Shathira |
Seems like we have the full compliment back from the Holidays now, almost. If Arenya's back, we'll start pushing forward again. Then we'll be back to the once a day expectations. I'll for sure post early morning (6-6:30am Central) just about every day, so you can count on that. Then as people post, I can add more. Most of the time I'm going to wait on major events/decisions, but if there are side conversations going between PCs and NPCs I can post a couple times a day.
So, Arenya if you can let us know you're back, that'd be great :D

Back and I've posted. I hope everyone had a great new year! Sorry I went paragliding and I was supposed to have internet there, but cell reception was terrible and I didn't have access to 3G.
Garavaen Drusus |
I've had a similar situation ... Rented a cottage where, supposedly, the high speed internet went down the week before our arrival. (Which only bothered me at midnight after the wife went to sleep, mind you, but still... )
Elias aka 'Eli' |
Hey guys, this is a drive-by post. I apologize for vanishing. Work has increased exponentially in the last month and it looks like I'm going to be almost completely offline until the end of January. That might possibly slip into the first week in February as well.
Feel free to bot my character if that works best. If you'd rather replace my character given the projected length of my absence, that is fine too. I completely understand. Thanks!
GM Shathira |
Hey, real life can bite us all in the butt, and I'm not going to punish someone who gives a head's up before a noted absence. It's the people that just vanish for a week or two with no word that wind up replaced. We can bot you for the duration. :) Just give us a head's up, either here, or PM me and let me know.
On the real life biting us in the butt front. We just got word that they may have to induce my wife's labor a little early. Our due date was supposed to be Feb 10, but they may induce as soon as next week. I'll do my best to let you know ahead of time, but I may not get the warning myself. I know I'll be busy when he comes, but I also know that sitting down to write up the game will be a quick, nice diversion, so I may not miss any time at all. First child so almost all of it is unknown ;)

Congratulations! :D

Congratulations on the father being wrecked and sorry about the...wait...I got that backwards.
Congratulations on the safe and smooth delivery and being initiated into fatherhood! =)
Don't feel bad about taking a rest if you need to. =)
