Fran Belmont |
Thanks for the bot, GM! I'm back from my trip (admittedly took yesterday off to rest up and chill out with my husband) and with OutPost almost done and my trip behind me I should hopefully be more active in posting now :)
GM Lorenzo |
Folks, my brain is fried. I'll update things in the morning.
The strikes and time are important to lend a sense of urgency to the mission.
You've got three strikes, yes, but fortunately we're not playing baseball, so you're not out (yet).
You've got 52 minutes--not too bad--left to accomplish the mission.
*GM drums fingers on virtual table and meets your gaze with an expression of sublime innocence...*

Can't wait to get my hands on the new Nidal book coming out this week. Hopefully lots of yummy goodness for our favorite Nidalese Lady! Even if it's just background material to flesh out some of her comments and actions.
Lady Vanessa Reisende |
Having already played this, I don't want to just say which door to go thru. That's why I'm waiting on everyone else, but i'll post in gameplay here in a minute.
Fran Belmont |
Sorry guys, I've had work the last two nights and last night saw me with a buddy to train so that's why I've not been super responsive or as action-pushy as I probably need to be. Will try and remedy that now that I've (hopefully) got a couple days off :)
GM Lorenzo |
Clarification:
You're each (including critters moving on their own paws, hocks, hooves, etc) making a Perception check as you move, effectively (or not) timing your movement to avoid notice.
We've got two checks so far, but no movement. I'll advance the action as soon as we get those mechanics (skill check and movement) taken care of.
GM Lorenzo |
I'm not sure what's bogged us down. If there's still some confusion, help me understand your question, so I can try to add some clarification. The mechanic is Perception check + move.
Fuzzfoot and Thysius have done so.
Lady Vanessa and Barbo rolled Perception checks but haven't moved on the map. Barbo also suggested someone provide a distraction.
Einn and Fran have yet to make the skill check or the move. Fran also suggested the party might want to split up.
We also need to see how the pig and the cat are moving about the area. Have I overlooked anyone?
GM Lorenzo |
We'll give Fran and Barbo a chance to post this evening.
If we don't see anying by tomorrow morning, I'll bot all the missing actions I've requested, and advance things.
Fran Belmont |
Sorry for the silence/delay guys, I've not felt well the past few days and it's largely kept me off the forums and offline. I'm finally feeling a little better now though so hopefully I won't be slowing our roll any further. Catching up on Gameplay now!
Lady Vanessa Reisende |
Welcome back! Hope you get to feeling even better soon.
When I can't post it's frustrating cause I want to contribute. But the timing of rest periods -> preflight duties -> flights -> back to sleep sometimes prevents it. I don't want to make a short garbage post on my phone from the crew van, so I end up waiting until I'm rested. But when that aforementioned duty cycle takes 36+ hours, it looks like I've disappeared.
One advantage of playing PBP with people who also know me IRL is that they understand my lifestyle.
Fran Belmont |
^Believe me, I understand. Back when my work schedule was more consistent I usually worked 3 12s a week, 9a-9:30p. When those days all fell right in a row, I would often post once after getting home at night but with needing to sleep and then work the next day it would often be nearly a full 24 hours between posts. Of course since going to a 'new' job 2 years ago my schedule's been all over the place so I just post when I can whether it's 3 am or 10 am or whenever.
And thanks. It's less feeling physically ill (though I've had a low-key sore throat ever since getting back from Rochester last week) and more of a depressive state I sometimes fall into that makes it hard to do more than the bare minimum.
But even though I don't PbP with anyone I know IRL I've slowly accumulated pretty steady 'groups' of friends on here, both in the PFS circles and regular PF games, to play with and they know my work schedule is erratic and they know I sometimes get the blahs and disappear for a day or two but I always come back and so they don't hold it against me (that I'm aware of) :)
GM Lorenzo |
Feel free to have Barbo post that question/suggestion in the Gameplay thread!
:-)
GM Lorenzo |
Sorry, folks. I probably won't have time to post till tomorrow evening.
GM Lorenzo |
Anybody attending/volunteering at Gen Con in August?
Event sign-ups begin in an hour or so. I going with my wife and high school friend, renting an Air BnB place.
It's a little frustrating that I have to sign us up for scenarios now, even though I have no idea which scenarios I'll be GMing. Hopefully, I can switch their tables later to seat them at tables I'm running, once the organizers reveal the assignments.
Lady Vanessa Reisende |
As I suspected, the new Nidal book was perfect for fleshing out lots of details in Lady Vanessa's back story. I had her birth/origin down beforehand, but this gave me a lot to work with to fill in the interim years and better explain how & why a 117 year old undead noble socialite became a Pathfinder. Also provides better motivations going forward.
That being said, if you're not into Nidal, or have triggers related to torture or horror, there's little to no value/crunch.
GM Lorenzo |
Amazing! PaizoCon sign-ups went live this morning at 10, signed up for the scenarios I wanted, and it didn't crash once.
Wonders never cease!
Fran Belmont |
Huzzah! I hope those going to PaizoCon have a grand time :)

I forgot that was today! I'm so glad you posted. Thankfully I don't have many non-GMing spots left.
GM Lorenzo |
@Barbo: Realized I hadn't yet switched the round counter from Surprise Round to Round 1, so mea culpa, I now realize why you only did a single move action, initially.
I did a little research on animated object and magic missile. It's true that the spell doesn't work on objects. And though the creature is called an animated object, it's type is a construct, so I'm ruling that the spell would work.
That said, I've actually never encountered such a situation before, and I could be wrong. I'm always happy to be corrected and learn from my mistakes.
And if my feelings were to get hurt, I'd finally have an excuse to get an emotional support service animal. Maybe a deinonychus or a space hamster! Just kidding. (I have no feelings.)
Fran Belmont |
If you go space hamster, make sure to get a miniature giant space hamster!
(At work tonight, so will post as I'm able.)
Barbo Beezle |
It's type is construct.... that makes a ton of sense! I buy it! Good logic. Also, make sure to upgrade your space hamster to the model that comes with laser eyes.

Quick Refresher on Immediate Actions and Swift Actions. (I needed the refresher myself, too.)
Immediate Actions
"Much like a swift action, an immediate action consumes a very small amount of time but represents a larger expenditure of effort and energy than a free action. However, unlike a swift action, an immediate action can be performed at any time—even if it's not your turn. Casting feather fall is an immediate action, since the spell can be cast at any time."
"Using an immediate action on your turn is the same as using a swift action and counts as your swift action for that turn. You cannot use another immediate action or a swift action until after your next turn if you have used an immediate action when it is not currently your turn (effectively, using an immediate action before your turn is equivalent to using your swift action for the coming turn). You also cannot use an immediate action if you are flat-footed."
With that in mind, Thysius avoids the damage from the animated object by casting windy escape as an immediate action in Round 1. But having used the immediate action, Thysius doesn't have a swift action available in Round 2 to use his spell recall to re-acquire windy escape.
Thysius may modify any or all of his Round 2 actions. Let me know. For now, I'll stick to the rest of the post, as is.

@GM Minor detail, but Chair can't actually get to the space indicated. It can still attack Lady Vanessa, just not from that particular space it's in now.
Shadow Trap prevents the target from moving more than 5' from "its original position."
"You pin the target’s shadow to its current location, causing the target to become entangled and preventing it from moving farther than 5 feet from its original position, as if its shadow were anchored to the terrain. "
It made that original 5' move to the East after it failed its save, and I presumed you limited its movement on purpose. And then it hadn't moved again since then.
It could move to the space due North of Thysius, and attack her from there.
Fran Belmont |
Hee...I wasn't sure if invisibility is still in effect or not for Fran, but if it is then I'll certainly take that +20 to Stealth :D
Einn Sparkbearer |
I’ll be away on and off for the next two weeks.
May 25-28 Paizocon
May 29-May 31 Regularly scheduled programming
June 1-June 5 on vacation.
It is incredibly unlikely that I’ll be able to post each day during the con and the vacation. Please don’t let me slow the games down, and feel free to bot me. I’ll check in as I can.
GM Lorenzo |
We have very little action left. I'm hoping to send out Chronicles by tomorrow evening.
Please post any additional info you need me to enter on your Chronicle sheets.
Fran Belmont |
Wow, I didn't realize we were already nearly done!
I don't think I need to add anything for Fran since she has no Day Job and didn't make any purchases that I recall :)
*edit* For those attending PaizoCon and the like, I hope you have a great time!
Lady Vanessa Reisende |
No day job for the Lady. She's a Kuthite, not a Calistrian!
I'm running a pre-game at the hotel this morning, possibly playing this afternoon, then running every AM thru the weekend. Posting will be sparse if anything else is required.
Thanks Larry for running this, and thanks to everyone for playing!
GM Lorenzo |
Heading to the gym. Will report the session and provide a link to your Chronicles later today.
GM Lorenzo |
The session has been reported to Paizo, and you can get your Chronicles here.
Please let me know if I've made any errors.
Thanks for being such a great group of players. Pay it forward--GM a session for others!
Once I hear from everybody, I'll make this campaign inactive.
I hope to see some of you at PaizoCon this weekend.
Larry Smith
aka GM Lorenzo
Fran Belmont |
My chronicle looks good GM, thank you! I'll get a close-out post from Fran up soon. Thanks again for the invitation (sorry Fran & Mr. Sunshine weren't more helpful) and a great game from GM & players alike and I hope to see everyone around the forums/Flaxseed :)
Fuzzfoot Hogan |
Thanks, GM!
Can I ask you to add the day job to mine? Doesn't add much, but a little extra never hurts!
Thanks much-
Fuzzfoot
Einn Sparkbearer |
I can't open my chronicle. Can you check the settings on Einn's please. No hurry. I know we're both busy this weekend. I'm not playing her during PaizoCon so we're good.
GM Lorenzo |
I've fixed Fuzzfoot's Chronicle, adding the result of his Day Job roll.
I've double-checked accessibility for Einn's Chronicle. It should be good to go.
The updated link.

Hey guys, I hope everyone has had a pleasant holiday weekend :)
And for those not in the States, I hope you've had a pleasant regular weekend :)
