Man, that's a huge lot. Congratulations!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Fun times coming! Like moving! And before you ask if I can help, just know this: I'm busy. :)
GM Ladile |
Thanks guys! There's still a lot of work to be done, of course, but it'll all fall into place over the next few weeks :)
And too busy to help us move? That's a shame...but I think we'll manage :P
Family reactions have been positive as well.
My MiL is excited and already offered to help us paint if anything needs painting.
Both MiL and my dad have been (good-naturedly) giving my husband a hard time about keeping the lawn mowed. His response to this is best summed up as :|
Both of my parents: 'Hey, now you can get the rest of your stuff out of our house! :D'
My brother is both happy and a little sad because I won't be 2 minutes from his place of work and 15 minutes from his home anymore, but I've already promised that I'll still drive down sometimes for games with the local lodge.
Not sure what my BiL thinks since he lives in Dallas but I'm betting he probably thinks it's a pretty cool development.
Yay :)

Hate mowing? Get a goat.
And lawns in some places are meant for parking the cars you're working on.

Eerily accurate.
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
Yeah- a note on goats... a mixed blessing at best and a methodological destroyer of anything chewable at worst- especially if it looks expensive! (I swear our goats KNEW how much we paid for various yard-items and went right for the expensive stuff!).
But... they can be awesome fun! To be fair, ours were more pets than a lawn management system, and spoiled rotten.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |

Cars, trucks, and/or boats, ATVs...
GM Ladile |
I'm pretty sure us owning any manner of livestock would be a TERRIBLE idea for a number of reasons. We'll just stick to regular household pets, please and thank you!
GM Ladile |
And...apologies. This particular fight was noted to be responsible for player deaths and even one or two TPKs/retreats over in the GM Discussion thread for the scenario. But you guys did it! Good job :)
Meredith Ulmari |
Like I said before, we were able to regroup and try a new strategy before they could overwhelm us. Good job, everyone.
Lazarus Logos |
Frankie, if it truly annoys you the player, when Lazarus calls you the PC 'Francis,' then I'll stop immediately.
I've just been roleplaying a serious-minded adult reacting to a child-like member of the team, the way a parent might address a son or daughter by his or her full name.
No offense intended.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
It doesn't bother me in the least. Frankie on the other hand would react as he did in gameplay. Feel free to continue.
GM Ladile |
For what it's worth, only Frankie and Denair have high enough Perception bonuses to find that trap even with using Take 20.
*cough32perceptioncough*
Meredith's Eidolon |
Yay for rrogues. They never get enough love in these scenarios. I'm just abusing a +8 eidolon bonus to Perception.
Lazarus Logos |
I wasn't clear where the mirror is, so I just moved Lazarus behind Frankie.
GM Ladile |

Happy Halloween! The temperature tanked here today; it was mid 60s when I got home from work this morning and now it's mid 30s and spitting precipitation.
Brr!
Oh and as of 2:30 this afternoon we officially own our own (and first) home. Can't move in just yet as the sellers requested another two weeks to get moved out but still - we own a home :D
Lazarus Logos |
Congrats!
Lazarus Logos |
With his awareness of the trap, Yorad would seek avoid the hazard, I think. If there were a cliff face, a cause fear spell would make him attempt to climb down it, not necessarily cause him to jump off and hurt himself intentionally.
GM Ladile |
^Yep! I think it would be different if the condition had language about being in a blind panic or some such but it does not, so you can go around/jump over the trapped rug.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Okay sounds good. I wasn't sure if the trap had been disarmed or not, so it makes sense he would try to avoid it :)
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
These traps are all pretty high DCs for little old Frankie. Especially being magical. Avoidance works so that's what he went with.
Lazarus Logos |
Yorad, re fear effects:
Frightened: Characters who are frightened are shaken, and in addition they flee from the source of their fear as quickly as they can. They can choose the paths of their flight. Other than that stipulation, once they are out of sight (or hearing) of the source of their fear, they can act as they want. If the duration of their fear continues, however, characters can be forced to flee if the source of their fear presents itself again. Characters unable to flee can fight (though they are still shaken).
GM Ladile |
^Yep. Also I probably won't drag this out too much longer, depending on how this round and perhaps the next go. I'll try and make another round of updates a bit later this evening; for now I'm off to do some packing.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
OK thanks for the info Lazarus! Since Yorad would not be able to face Quidda without fleeing again, he will wait for the frightened condition to end before returning. Of course that does not help his Confused condition :P
GM Ladile |
I may be way more lenient than I should be but as a player I hate super drawn out battles of attrition and they're honestly not that much more fun as a GM. Not to mention even a drawn out battle can be finished much more quickly in a F2F game than via PbP. So I'm a lot more likely to 'call' a battle if there's a reasonably strong likelihood that the PCs can or will eventually win the day anyway.
Ouidda basically has no direct damage spells available to her and is specifically noted to try to avoid entering melee at all costs. So I'm actually not 100% sure how she's supposed to 'win' short of hoping the PCs just kill each other via Confusion. Or Dominate Person, which would've been her opening salvo were it not for the 4-player adjustment.
*whistles*
Though I suppose she could've just CdG'ed you one at a time if she'd managed to put everyone to sleep. But CdG seems rather excessive (to me) unless the tactics specifically call for it.
Anyway, I left it up to random chance - as you saw - on whether she'd trip the traps outside the door or not. Maybe it was cheesy but I thought it seemed reasonable for her to assume that since no one showed up noticeably underdressed or drooling on themselves, that you guys had disarmed the traps rather than avoided them. And the Suggestion to remove her gear...well, that's not too terribly unreasonable since hey, by her estimation she already had you guys on the ropes anyway and she wasn't too terribly scared of Lazarus and his pew stick. But even if that hadn't happened I'm pretty sure you guys could've chased her down and kept her from getting away, even with all the mind-affecting juju slowing most of you down.
Anyway, I hope the above reasoning makes sense for how/why things turned out the way that they did.
Meredith Ulmari |
Bah, if only Meredith & Denair acted normally (or attacked nearest when she tripped on the trap...)
GM Ladile |
So, some of you might be relieved to know that we're very nearly finished with this scenario! Yay!
Once we wrap this one up I think I'm going to hit the pause button on our little campaign for a couple of weeks. This will give me more time to focus on getting moved, which should finally start the week after next. It also gives everyone a little breather for the upcoming (American) Thanksgiving holiday and for any Gameday games folks are participating in to hopefully wrap up. If I'm a player in any of your games I'll still continue to post and participate as much as I can.
As of right now, I believe Yorad & his player are still planning to take their leave once we finish up this scenario. The tentative plan right now is still for me to run one of the higher-level repeatables next (Halflight Path or Tome of Righteous Repose) but depending on who I get to fill the 6th spot (whether as a one-time Special Guest or a permanent new member of the team) it might open up some other options in the 3-7 range for us to do. Stay posted!
Lazarus Logos |
You've earned the break.
I look forward to our continued adventures. It's one of my top favorite campaigns!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Yup, whatever works best for you K, I'm sure Frankie can find something to keep himself occupied. (Beware party members!)
Lazarus Logos |
Lazarus's Note to Self:
Buy a complete set of Pathfinder Chronicles. 50gp each for 500gp for a complete set of 10 (one for each Knowledge skill) and stow them in the handy haversack.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Note to Lazarus: Instead of Pathfinder Chronicles how about some Garfield comics for Frankie? (Christmas is coming!)
Lazarus Logos |
Always thought the deviant Lil Frankie was more of a Fritz the Cat kind of guy.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
I'd never heard of Fritz. Googling it was a bit of a surprise. A very risque comic!
Meredith Ulmari |
Ah yes, there's an animated film for Fritz. It's... not meant for children. At all.
GM Ladile |
Totally random tangent but I gotta say that if you ever get the chance to play #9-06 The Shores of Heaven, do it! It's a really enjoyable scenario (I thought) to both play and to GM, especially if you've got a GM that'll put in some extra effort to make the setting come alive and players that'll get into the spirit of things and interact with said setting.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
So what would have happened if someone simply gibbed Torch before he could vanish away with his magic cloak? A question to be answered once we're done with all this!
At least now Frankie can brag about pelting the legend of Torch with his sling shot. #playground streetcred
GM Ladile |
Sorry guys, work was busier than expected and I've also not felt super creative or in the mood to write much over the last day or two. Hopefully tonight will be better.
GM Ladile |
As always, feel free to post closing thoughts, etc. but we're otherwise done with #4-23 Rivalry's End. I'm aware that the plot of this one was likely a bit confusing for anyone that's not played many/any of the scenarios that feature Grandmaster Torch and his shenanigans - this includes myself. That said, to my understanding this metaplot does eventually go somewhere and - I believe - is actually concluded in the final two scenarios published for Pathfinder Society 1st Edition.
At any rate, I will get the game reported in a moment and will hopefully have your chronicles out either today or tomorrow!
The moving of the big furniture went well yesterday and the first sleep and first shower in the new house were both rousing successes. There's still a lot of unpacking to do and our internet won't be hooked up until Tuesday afternoon (I'm mobile hotspotting it at the moment). I'd mentioned that we would be taking a break after this scenario and initially I'd figured maybe a week or two would suffice but to be honest, I think I'd actually like to take the entirety of December off. There's been a lot going on and while most of it has been good, it's also been rather stressful and so I think it might do me some good to take a breather from most of my GMing for the remainder of the holiday season.
(Full disclosure: I'm going to continue GMing for the TL;DR group just because they've already had a rather lengthy break as it is between the usual post-scenario break I do + all the interruption of service with my move.)
Would this be something that you guys would be okay with?
Meredith Ulmari |
Congrats on a successful move. Take December off and relax, you need to get used to your new digs!
I know enough about Torch to know this is in character for him. Also, it's nice to see what happens to the mysterious Spider. Even if there's a lot of "behind-the-scenes" stuff going on with that. It may be PbP, but we don't get a chance to see the friction behind Ouidda and Torch. IRL, I'd maybe have a few "flashbacks" between the two or something, but that's hard to do here.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Sounds good K.
Ya I knew Torch was no good but I haven't really played many of his scenarios and certainly Frankie hadn't.
Lazarus Logos |
Take a break, you've earned it.
I'm actually playing those two scenarios that complete the Torch story arc right now with my -1 PC. It's been interesting. Just wish I was playing them with a GM and players like you guys, more into roleplaying than merely roll-playing.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Frankie is actually my -1 PC. He wasn't really played much and ended up being reborn into Francis here. He's quite a bit behind a number of my others.
Take a break, Frankie will be all the older and wiser when you decide to come back. (Not really, but he'll be waiting!).

Regarding finishing things out. Just a longshot of a question regarding Faction Goals.
Did anyone we defeated fall into this niche? Mostly thinking of the Spider:
Defeat a known slaver whose Challenge Rating is at least equal to your character level. For the purposes of this goal, use the definition of slaver from the Freedom Fighter reward.
FREEDOM FIGHTER (2+ goals): Gain a +1 bonus on attack rolls and weapon damage rolls against known slavers. For the purposes of this reward, a slaver is a creature that owns at least five slaves, is maintaining a compulsion spell or effect to control a creature for at least one day, or is explicitly cited as trafficking slaves.
Regardless here is his day job roll:
Sleight of Hand: Underground Candy Mogul: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 2 = 23
Thieves' Guild (4 PP): Nearly every community, from the smallest village to the teeming metropolis, has a criminal underground, and most have one or more thieves' guilds to look out for the interests of those on the opposite side of the law. As a member of one such thieves' guild, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus on Sleight of Hand checks to steal items without being noticed. You can use Sleight of Hand to make Day Job rolls.

Lots to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Wishing everyone a blessed day with great friends and loving family.
Go Bears!
GM Ladile |
@Frankie - In this instance, I would say 'no' re: Faction Goals. Based on the information given in the scenario it seems as though the Spider is more of an information broker than a slaver and I've unfortunately not played or GMed any of the earlier scenarios that feature her so this one is all that I've got to go on.
The game *is* reported finally and now that I've got a quiet moment here at home I should be able to get your chronicles to you very shortly :)
