I'm fine with a 7th level character though given we've still got one 4th level and at least another that'll be freshly 5th when we start Tome you'll probably need to slow-track him a bit so we can keep everyone within a reasonable level range; hopefully that'll be okay.
I realized after you posted the above that I would indeed want to slow track him anyway. He has a 3XP chronicle waiting for him to hit 8th level from when I played in a campaign mode AP in 2016. I don't mind taking that one as slow track for 1.5XP when I apply it to keep him from advancing too fast. It doesn't bother me at all to slow track him. Gives him more play time.
And in other news, I'm looking at trying to get us started on Monday, January 6th so be working on getting your characters in order! If that's still a little too soon let me know and I can bump the start day back a few days, maybe to Thursday or Friday.
Edit! Almost Ready!

![]() |

FYI, after the next scenario, Lazarus will be level 7. He's got 4 slow-tracked GM Chronicles to apply at that point, which will put him 1xp shy of level 8.

GM Ladile |

Hmm...I guess we'll figure things out as we go, then. Maybe some of the lower level characters have some held/GM chronicles of their own they can apply? If not, I'm not really sure what else can be done.

![]() |

If/when we get to a point where Lazarus is too high level for the rest of the team, he'll take a sabbatical and recruit a replacement during his absence.
Some possible recruits with our team's tier:
Ripley the Grippli: Alchemist-4
'Slam' Duncan: Monk-4
Uriel, 'God is My Light': Paladin-3/Oracle-1
Santiago del Fuego: Barbarian-2/Bard-2
Gitano Frallino: Bard-3/Investigator-1/Swashbuckler-1
Mick von Jaeger: Brawler-1/Hunter-4
Mishka Krieger, Vigilante-5
McKieg: Warpriest-6
Skye, Shaman of the Lyrune Quah: Shaman-6
I enjoy them all, so I don't mind giving them a chance to fill in for Lazarus from time to time.

![]() |

In regards to GM chronicles it'll be a long while before I get any of Frankie's level to speed him up slightly.

GM Ladile |

It's okay, we'll keep trucking along one way or another! Upon reread I can see that my earlier post could come across in a terse tone, which wasn't my intention. As long as folks are willing and able to be a little flexible on who they play and/or willing to slow-track from time to time, we should be good :)

![]() |

Done leveling up. Going to stay in slow-moving armor, but went with the STR belt to help with his to hit and damage. Also took Furious Focus, so most attacks will be Power Attacks. Serge is all ready to go.

GM Ladile |

As I'm finishing out the rest of the scenario prep I see that our APL falls at 5.5. Rounding up to 6 puts the group firmly in the 6-7 subtier. Rounding down to 5 puts you guys betweeen subtiers and dictates running the higher tier with a 4-player adjustment.
So either way, you guys will be playing up. The only question is whether you want the 4-player adjustment or the 'full' 6-7 subtier experience. Let me know which you'd prefer.

![]() |

While Lazarus's CL is 6, he's a bit under-powered as a level-3 cleric and level-3 wizard.
I don't mind playing for the 'full' subtier 6-7 experience, but I'm a little worried about endangering the lower-level PCs.

GM Ladile |

Hey folks, had to take my husband to the ER tonight and they wanted him to stay a day or so for observation. Things are fine but if my posting is spotty for the next day or so that'll be why.

![]() |

I hope your husband is okay.

GM Ladile |

Thanks for the well-wishes! DH got to come home yesterday evening and we're both back to work this evening. Since I really prefer starting new games/scenarios on my days off I'm going to push our start day for Tome back to Thursday. That said, I'll try and at least get a brief intro post up sometime tonight so you guys can start getting to know Quang Chi and vice versa before the mission briefing.

That's a coincidence. My wife calls me a DH from time to time, too.
Seriously, though, glad things are okay.

![]() |

That's a coincidence. My wife calls me a DH from time to time, too.
In airline parlance, DH stands for "deadhead." Which means a crewmember traveling on an airplane while not actively operating as a crewmember.
But perhaps your wife is referring to you as a "dead-head" with a different meaning....???

GM Ladile |

Obviously I meant DH as 'Dear Husband' but I'm pretty sure in Laz's example DH does not mean 'Dear Husband' or 'deadhead' :)
Neat to learn a new term, though. Thanks Nomadical!
*edit* Okay, scene-setting posts are made so please feel free to do character introductions and RP as much or as little as you prefer :)

GM Ladile |

Bah, I crashed earlier than expected last night. Embarrassing. Today is a painting day so it'll be a bit yet before I can get your mission briefing posted but I've not forgotten!

GM Ladile |

Better late than never, official opening post is up! The links in my head and at the top of the page should now redirect to our newest set of slides. Please take a moment, when you can, to make sure all your information on Slide #2 is correct and to make sure that you're happy with your marching order(s) on Slide #3. Feel free to talk over any adjustments among yourselves here.

![]() |

I adjusted Lazarus's Perception to +12, reflecting his use of eyes of the eagle.

![]() |

I added Quang Chi's details to Slide 2. Here's his Day Job roll. He uses Survival for his Day Job.
Survival: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Oof. I gonna plan to reroll that if I don't use my reroll during this scenario. Cause it can't get worse!
I also added him to the marching orders where the gaps were already. He doesn't mind being near the back under Standard conditions since he has both Precise Shot and Improved Precise Shot (Improved Precise Shot: Your ranged attacks ignore the AC bonus granted to targets by anything less than total cover, and the miss chance granted to targets by anything less than total concealment.) But he's not very stealthy (only +5) since he's a STR & WIS archer and not DEX based. Where he is in the Scouting lines is fine, just don't expect him to be very sneaky.

GM Ladile |

^Thanks, both of you! If you guys want to roll your Day Jobs now you may, or you can wait until the scenario concludes, whichever works best.
I also nudged Jan to make sure that he's getting post notifications so hopefully he'll check back in soon.

GM Ladile |

Hey guys, work's been whooping my butt the last day or two. I'll update again either later tonight or tomorrow night. In the meantime, if I'm a player in one of your games please bot/delay/autopilot me as you see fit and I'll catch up later.

![]() |

No worries. Take your time. I suppoooose I can fill the time here on the beach in Fiji with anoooother Mai Tai and anoooother massage.

So in random news...did you know that we've been running a contest to decide the next name and theme for Outpost III? If you're interested, go and vote for your favorite suggestions - multiple votes are allowed - before tomorrow, January 17th!
(That said, it looks like we're currently tied between 'party scenarios' and 'pirate/sea/ship scenarios'.)
______________
Did you know that this group (sorta) has a Google Hangouts chat? Several of us have fallen into playing together and running games for each other on the regular so we started a Hangouts chat quite some time ago. It's by no means a requirement but it's been fun to chatter more in-depth about Pathfinder as well as life, the universe, and everything. Well, mostly everything.
(Please check political topics at the door.)
And it's also handy for those times that someone has a quick question for someone else; sometimes it can be resolved much more quickly that way than with a traditional back-and-forth on a Discussion thread. For example, even if I'm not near my laptop or Chromebook I almost always have my phone nearby.
That said, I know a couple of folks travel a lot (Quang Chi, Jan) and others prefer to keep a light load when it comes to electronic/social media/technological chatter. But if any of you ever wants an invite, just let me know :)

GM Ladile |

So, it looks like Outpost III will officially be Outpost III: Puttin' on the Ritz! If you've got characters that enjoy parties and social gatherings you'll definitely wanna check it out once we get all the scenarios finalized and make the formal announcement :D

![]() |

What are the odds you'll run a game for this group under that heading? Frankie is a big hit at parties :)

![]() |

"Sooo many pahties! It's a pity zhat vun can only attend vun at a time," the dhampir diva exclaims.
"It vould be maaahvelous if zhat handsome Lorenzo hosted vun. And I'd love to attend anozher of zhe faaahbulous Lady Ladile's soirees, of course. She alvays hahz zhe best music!"
I'm hoping to have Lady Vanessa attend The Hellknight's Feast, if anyone is planning to run that for Outpost.

GM Ladile |

Will GM Ladile run a game for Outpost?
Outlook good.
Will GM Ladile run an Outpost game for this specific group (or TL;DR)?
Reply hazy, ask again later.
Perhaps, if we finish up this scenario quickly enough. That said, management generally wants convention games to be open to the general public for sign-ups.
Of course there's nothing stopping any of you from signing up to whatever I happen to run! Just might have to be quick on the draw. I'll also be trying to run public games a little more often since that's part of my duties as a Venture Agent, so always keep your peepers peeled over at Flaxseed (and later, Cottonseed if you're into PF2).
Speaking of finishing things quickly, if you're all amiable then feel free to work out a dungeon-delving SOP among yourselves and we can put it into effect as the adventure proceeds.

![]() |

Suggested SOP when approaching a 'door' and clearing a room:
1. Party Perception checks to detect traps and anything beyond the door.
2. If trapped or locked, Disable Devise check.
3. One of the beefier types opens the door.
4. Casters detect magic and evil.
5. The party enters in march order.
6. Party Perception checks within the room.

![]() |

Not a bad one, but please insert Frankie into that equation:
Frankie runs along willy nilly, racing the group to open doors and checking things out while he hopes his luck holds. (Damn that strategy would probably work ok if he wasn't the lowest level person.)

GM Ladile |

More seriously, I'll give anyone who wants to chime in on Laz's proposed SOP a little more time to do so and then I'll advance the action (I'm home alllll day and alllll night tonight). In the meantime, I'll go ahead and seek to clarify one or two things now:
(1) 'Beefier types' = Serge and Jan, I assume.
(2) 'March Order' - Do you guys want Standard or Scouting to be your primary for this?

![]() |

Start with scouting and maybe we'll swap? I guess I can't decide until we get feel for the place... creepy and seems deserted or full of angry things hack n slash style.
Frankie will start with being sneaky as the place seems pretty creepy.

Meredith's Eidolon |

Denair should either scout (with her +17 Stealth and +15 Perception bonus) or be one of the beefy guys knocking the door down (since she's more expendable than anyone else here.)

![]() |

I think Frankie could easily be convinced to stand back when doors needed to be opened, but he'd 'explore' ahead between such situations. Given this place is pretty unfriendly he'd sneak along, he and Denair.

![]() |

Sorry I didn't have much to offer to this. Quang Chi's got good Perception (+15), but he's not sneaky. He'll stay towards the back, follow the movements of those in the front, and shoot over everyone's head.

GM Ladile |

*makes an entire post about poop*
God I love being a GM.
*edit*
Okay, Scouting formation to start with (of course) Denair and Frankie up in the lead followed by Jan (swapped him and Quang Chi around for the single-file formation). Denair also volunteers to be a primary door-opener, should it become necessary.

![]() |

Frankie's post reminds me: As we navigate the dungeon, we should consider an SOP for movement.
Before entering a corridor/hallway, etc, casters detect magic/evil. Then the Party's Take 10 Perception checks, with the added benefits of Frankie's Trap Spotter. Others might have similar abilities.
Take 10 Perception
Meredith 10
Lil Frankie 25 + Trap Spotter
Jan 19
Serge 12
Lazarus 22
Denair25
Quang Chi 25

Working on an update for you guys now; spent Tuesday and most of yesterday catching up on sleep and painting~

GM Ladile |

GM Ladile wrote:... the second misses by only a hair and the third a little more than that.Versus flat footed since it hadn't acted yet? Only asking since it missed by a hair.
....you're right, that second shot would have hit vs. FF AC. I'll update the tracker accordingly; none of the other PC misses thus far would have hit FF though so yours is the only attack I need to retcon slightly.
In other news, LF someone to tattoo or staple 'Remember your FF ACs!' to my forehead...

![]() |

Likely one of the reasons they did away with FF at the start of combat in 2.0 (unless you are a rogue and are using certain skills for initiative).

GM Ladile |

I'll be out and about for a good portion of the day today but I'll try and get another update posted later tonight, if it's needed.
In the meantime, I took this at work the other night. I guess sometimes Pathfinder bleeds over into real life? ;)

![]() |

Cash in some of your prestige and maybe you'll get one :)

GM Ladile |

^What prestige? Also, that's not my writing, that was someone else :V

In other news, for those keeping up with PF2 sanctioning, we got this blog post a few days back - go check it out!

"It is a magical onsen. A traditional hot and cold bath of Minkai,"
Oh man! You just reminded me of this video (from one of my favorite YouTubers) that I watched ages back about this place in Japan that looked and sounded amazing. Why can't we have anything cool like this here in the US? I'd totally get into a pool of green tea!

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

WOW! I've never been up to Hakone where that place is, but it looks amazing.
Many of the better hotels in Japan have onsen in the fitness center locker rooms. Those are typically a hot pool and a cold pool along with a sauna in gender-separated facilities. But I've seen larger and more elaborate ones also. And there's a whole process, and system, and rules(!) cause Japan loves systems and rules.
I noted that the link to the place specifies clearly and right up front that covered tattoos are okay. I've been asked when checking in at an onsen if I have tattoos, (I don't) and informed that if I do they must be covered. Which can be very awkward for people with full sleeves or large torso tattoos.
How many tea bags would it take to make your own bath tub into a "pool of green tea"? Or you could replicate their coffee bath with enough instant Folgers, I guess. DIY!
