Okay, time to buy stuff!
I am upgrading my Mithral Chain Shirt to a +1 bonus. That costs 1000 gp.
I will buy some scrolls, as well:
Unchained Summoner
Animal Aspect 200 gp
Barkskin 200 gp
And a Cleric Spell
Lesser Restoration 150 gp
That's 1550 total.
GM Ladile |
Okay, we're more or less officially off! Jan, feel free to start posting in Gameplay now - welcome aboard :)
GM Ladile |
Oh, by the way - is anyone here heading to PaizoCon next weekend? If so I'd be happy to pause the action during that time frame if need be.
Lazarus Logos |
I'll be at PaizoCon, but I'm not asking you to pause the action. I'll be able to post each day.
GM Ladile |
Okay then, so noted! It's still a few weeks away but I'll actually be headed to a convention myself next month and will be out of town Thursday June 7th through Monday June 11th. If it's anything like last year I probably won't have much time for checking the forums or posting, so I may put us on a brief break during that time; I've not decided for certain yet.
Purchases are also noted. Though Larry might've already done so, I PMed Jan to let him know we're starting since I don't think he's dotted into Gameplay yet.
Lazarus Logos |
I also just texted him, too.
GM Ladile |
Something that I've been noodling around a bit since some discussion with some of the players on Hangouts *and* spurred by Lazarus making mention of going to Irrisen - it's a ways off but I would be willing to continue to run scenarios/modules for this group once we finish this trilogy, if enough people are interested.
The biggest issue would of course be trying to find scenarios that everyone can play, especially since I know GM Red (Brayden) is doing this very thing for a different group whose members overlap somewhat with this group. The level disparity between some of you might be another issue on down the line, but one that could probably be worked around with some care. Of course we could also do something like a 'restart' and start a long-term group with everyone playing characters that are a little closer together in level (not necessarily 'start a brand new PC' but 'bring a 1st or 2nd level PC').
Feel free to think it over (no rush) and let me know what you think, either here or privately. And it won't hurt my feelings if people prefer to go their separate ways after we finish the trilogy :)
Lazarus Logos |
Lady Ladile, I'm happy to join any scenario you're willing to run, and I'd love to continue adventuring with Lazarus Logos.
But I've been applying Scarab Sages chronicles to him with GM credit, so he'll jump to level 5 after the conclusion of this mini-campaign arc (aiming for Mystic Theurge at level 7, someday). I suppose I could adjust those chronicles to advance him along the slow track, delaying personal gratification.
I've a number of other PCs that might be closer in tier to this merry band going forward, if the other members would like continue.
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
I am will to stay and play... Play by Post is a great way to keep engaged. Like Larry... er, I mean Lazarus says, I would love to do a mini-campaign.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Frankie would stay so long as he could convince Meredith and Denair to hang out with him!
Meredith Ulmari |
Oh, Denair and I will stick around.
If we're going to quest around for a while, I could switch to a slow progression so we can catch up in terms of XP.
Brayden Valdrin |
You're not getting rid of me that easily!
I'd love to come along, and can switch to a different PC if required.
GM Ladile |
Wow guys, thanks for the support and enthusiasm! That's five of you for certain so we'll definitely work on making this a more permanent thing, then. It never hurts to do some planning ahead so in case you don't already make use of it, it'd help immensely for everyone to track what they've played (and GMed) using the handy-dandy:
This will help make it easier to figure out what scenarios and/or modules everyone can play and get credit for. Dalen (should you wish to stick around too), I know you're basically good to play almost anything except for Portent's Peril but it's not a bad idea to track your played scenarios if you think doing Organized Play will be something you'd want to keep dabbling in :)
And I'm also happy to take requests if there are any particular scenarios/modules people would like to play *or* if there's a country/region you'd like to visit (some countries are the setting for way more scenarios than others, just a warning) - I can't promise anything but I'll do my best to be as accommodating as the group logistics allows me to be!
*cough* And on that note, I must head out to work. Updates later~~
Meredith Ulmari |
Here is my reporting tracker info.
Meredith likes fey and hates slavery.
Dalen Stonestep |
Problem is I got started with PFS and I've since lost most of my sheets. If I have time, I'll see if I can get most of them from here. If not, well, I hope they don't mind a reset for an absentminded vet. :D
Lazarus Logos |
Vet as in hamsters and shi tzus, or vet as in service to Uncle Sugar and the Constitution?
(27+ years as Forrest Gump, myself.)
GM Ladile |
A note - your GM is always happy to see the idle chatter and banter that seems to happen among the characters in this group. It's entertaining to read and it also takes a little worry off my mind knowing that you guys can keep yourselves entertained (at least to a point and where appropriate) during those times where I'm busy and/or slow to post.
I also appreciate how you guys aren't afraid to interact with the NPCs and the scenery beyond just the bare minimum needed to move the story along. It's an interesting balancing act. I actually appreciate players who can inject a lot of personality into a character with few words and I've played with some of these folks before - their character may not always have much to say and sometimes their posts are short, but when they post the post just oozes the essence of their character *and* they get stuff done or give others something to react to. It's great. It's a skill that I have some trouble with myself (see how wordy a lot of my posts tend to be) and try to work on when I can.
On the other hand, I've seen a lot of really bland 'strong and silent' type characters and sometimes it's the biggest buzzkill ever to write a post and get a bunch of one-liner responses.
So...a very roundabout way of saying that your GM appreciates you all :)
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
The top of a blonde head with a little boy haircut slowly and quietly rises behind the GM followed by a saliva covered finger that is quickly inserted into her ear. The scampering of little shoes and giggling follows.
Lazarus Logos |
I'll do my best to post once per day during PaizoCon, but please bot me, if you think it's necessary. I trust your judgment.
Dalen Stonestep |
I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. Briana and Sal are great characters and I love interacting with both of them. To me figuring out a character's personality is one of those things that's a lot of fun, and kinda gets me into trouble when playing GURPS since traits that I haven't bought keep cropping up and ones I did buy get pushed into the background.
Dalen has surprised me. I didn't expect her to get so annoyed with Frankie and so closed off with the others. She hasn't ha a hard life, but she has lived in a place where being unwary can kill you, and to an extent, she resents Frankie's attitudes and carefree personality, kinda like a jealous older sibling.
I do want to play one of my Whitescales again at some point. If we do decide to make a regular group, I may see if I can play Raseri again. I miss playing the little berserker.
GM Ladile |
@Frankie - "Aiiieeeeee!"
@Harsk - Harsk Forever! Sometimes it's great fun when someone plays a pregen. My witch Fran may or may not have a crush on Erasmus...*whistles*
@Lazarus - So noted!
@Dalen - Thanks; I'm glad Briana and Sal continue to be entertaining :)
As far as a regular group goes it looks like everyone is interested, so let's do it! While it would of course be fun to keep with the same characters the entire time, I also understand that it might work better for some, such as Lazarus, if we allow character-swapping. Maybe it's not so much that the same specific individuals always get called upon (such as with GM Red's Red Arm of Absalom group), but that there's a pool of several qualified agents that some of the Venture-Captains have started pulling from when forming a team. This is because I want people to play the characters they want to play and I'm not going to discourage a bit of character swapping if we happen to play a specific scenario that you really want to play Character B for instead of the Character A that you've largely been playing.
Another bit of business - another player that some of us know, Eric Swanson, has also expressed interest in getting in on this after we finish the Faithless & Forgotten trilogy. This would put us at 7 players. While I personally don't mind running for a table of 7 (because I know & trust you guys), I know that some players really prefer to stick to groups of 6 at the most. What say you?
(I made the joke that I could always form a separate, static CORE group since Eric seems to prefer more simplistic/old school gameplay but that's probably a terrible idea for my sanity, someone please talk me out of it.)
Meredith - thanks for the likes & dislikes, that does help! We can certainly add some fey/nature scenarios to the mix; I'm currently playing Down the Verdant Path and so far it seems like it'd be right up Meredith's alley. Any other themes anyone in particular would like to see? Or avoid? For example, I actually enjoy some horror in some of my gaming/GMing but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Whatever works for the GM is fine for me with table size. Frankie is not mention to be an action hogging, push the action type of character. More of a distraction/annoyance with some helpful skills at this point, so larger groups certainly don't hurt him, probably the other way.
As far as scenario types... I think Frankie would have a blast in any of them, but obvious would be more at home in urbanish settings. A long, drawn out wilderness campaign would probably break him.
Brayden Valdrin |
I'm fine with table size of seven and your choice of scenarios Ladile. My PFS tracker is up-to-date (Red #205498).
Given that he's only played 1 scenario, I'm still discovering Brayden and who he is. I always find it harder having very few skill points per level, and he's got 2. I much prefer being a face/knowledge/skill monkey than a martial/inward-looking PC since it lends well to versatility with social encounters, adventure, and discovery. Not that there's no room for serious PCs, but I appreciate the option to switch PCs here and there if no one else minds!
Meredith Ulmari |
I'm fine with 7 party members.
Lazarus Logos |
I've not tried a 7-player table in PbP, so I'm willing to try it out.
I try to steer clear of 7-player tables in F2F play, especially if a couple of the PCs have active critters, and it only gets worse in higher tiers, just too cumbersome to enjoy.
GM Ladile |
That's most of the group that seems cool with it so okay, we'll invite Eric once these next two scenarios are finished and see what playing with 7 at a table is like in PbP. I *will* agree with Lazarus that in going with 7 I'm going to gently ask folks to give careful consideration about swapping in other PCs that have critters (eidolons & ACs anyway, I'll give familiars a little more of a pass) or do a lot of summoning shenanigans.
I've plugged 5 of you (all but Dalen & Jan) into PFS Tracker to see what we have to work with in terms of stuff that everyone can play. It looks like we'll be largely limited to Season 9+ and modules, with a few smatterings of available scenarios from older seasons. A bit later I'll try to post a list of what I'm seeing so we can narrow things down more.
Another note - I won't be able to run the Assault on Absalom multi-table special that's on deck when PbP Gameday rolls around this fall as I expect some of you will be playing it at GM Red's table. Other arrangements can be looked at to perhaps pre-form a group for it with the rest of you and a couple of others to fill in but we can talk more about that when it's closer to time. Assuming I decide to throw my name in the ring as a GM for it in the first place; still noodling it over. Specials are rough man, even in PbP.
Dalen Stonestep |
I'm cool with 7 as well. Before Dalen, my last PFS scenario was back in 2012, so yeah, pretty much any of the newer stuff is fair game. :)
If we're going for fey-focused scenarios, I definitely want to play an Ulfen character, though that's going to put me further behind characters that have scenarios under their belt. If that's going to be a problem, I'll stick with Dalen.
I will try my hand at most anything, but I prefer martial builds, especially Fighter, Ranger, and Barbarian. Personality tends to determine how much they interact with NPCs for me.
GM Ladile |
Okay I'm dumb; we've got a lot more options of stuff to play now that I actually got the tracker to work properly!

Meredith Ulmari |
I've played these two already in Standard.
#8-08 Tyranny of Winds, Part I: The Sandstorm Prophecy - Tier: 1-5
#8-10 Tyranny of Winds, Part II: Secrets of the Endless Sky - Tier: 1-5
If Meredith's high level is too high, I have a level 2 Magus named Dawn that I can bring in instead.
And if the party gets too big, you could always split us into 2 tables and we can do 1 Core and 1 Standard. I have a level 2 Fighter/Bard who can help out.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
GM Red's team is currently doing: #8-24 Raid on the Cloudborne Keep - Tier: 5-9
GM Ladile |
Doing a CORE table and a Standard table is certainly an option as well if there's enough interest for it! And thanks for the updates; will adjust my list accordingly :)
*edit* Sorry if I seem overly chatty about all this...it's just that the more I think about it, the more excited I am and the more I wanna plan for it!
Brayden Valdrin |
Yup, it IS exciting. Having a continuous campaign with the same players is a lot of fun. The Red Arm table is one of my favorites to run, though half of the group isn't nearly as active as they were back in their heyday. We still move pretty steadily overall. I think we went through a bit of multi-table special fatigue earlier this year - dropping PCs into encounter after encounter gets tiring for players and GMs.
AdamWarnock |
Vet as in hamsters and shi tzus, or vet as in service to Uncle Sugar and the Constitution?
(27+ years as Forrest Gump, myself.)
Er, sorry. I meant as a PFS veteran. Never served in the military, and I work with computers and websites. I thank you for your service, and hope that I wasn't too thoughtless in my comment.
GM Ladile |
Okay folks, for the sake of not overrunning this particular Discussion thread too much more I started a brand new campaign page for further discussion about the long-running table(s). This will also allow for Eric and a *another* potential player who inquired about space to chime in and introduce themselves without having to worry about SPOILERZ for the Faithless & Forgotten trilogy.
You can find the new campaign discussion thread >>here<<.
And uh, yeah...it's also looking like two tables will definitely be a thing now that we've got 8 (!!) different people who are down to play :)
GM Ladile |
Hey guys, I hope everyone has had a pleasant holiday weekend :)
And for those not in the States, I hope you've had a pleasant regular weekend :)
GM Ladile |
Quick note that I will look to advance things forward later this evening after work!
GM Ladile |
Hey guys, I'm going to take my GM hat off here because I get the feeling that people are feeling a little uncertain/stuck on what to do next. You know that you have to get a permit to travel outside of Khari and you know that the most obvious way to do this is to go to the Magistrate's office and stand in line for one. While the party *can* explore other means of exiting the city, remember that you've not actually gone to check out the Magistrate's office yet - maybe you'll have to stand in line for hours or maybe not. If it helps, you are not on a timer so I hope I didn't mislead anyone into thinking that you have to get out of Khari and to Ibhir ASAP, because that isn't the case.
If anyone is *ever* feeling confused or stuck on what to do or what the group should be doing, please ask - here, in Hangouts, through PM, whatever's most comfortable for you. It's no fun for me (and I suspect not for you) if I just give you everything without making you work for it a little but it's definitely not fun for you guys if I'm obfuscating things to the point that you begin to feel frustrated or discouraged. I don't like to play 'stump the chump' (thanks to Lazarus for that turn of phrase) where information is withheld until you hit *just* the right trigger and never seek to do so intentionally but I'm not perfect and so I sometimes might end up doing so unintentionally. When in doubt, please speak up - and if you have any suggestions on how to make things more clear in the future, I'd always be up for a lesson :)
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Frankie won't be one to really push the storyline forward, mostly keep it entertaining along the way. If you want him to stay on task a bit more than I have been then please speak up. You can always ask him to do stuff in character as well, he's a kid, with a negative wisdom. He's easily manipulated/steered to a degree.
Lazarus Logos |
Didn't really feel stuck, but it made sense to see about contingencies, if the Magistrate's office proved problematic.
Not bothered at all.
GM Ladile |
In case you hadn't noticed, your GM can sometimes be a rather neurotic person who often second-guesses a lot of the things she does not just in PbP but in life in general and over-explains things sometimes, too. In this specific case, I'm a little more sensitive to my players potentially feeling frustrated because I had a similar sort of experience with a table that I ran back at the start of the year. Not only did *I* end up feeling a little frustrated as well for my inability to get something across but I also felt disappointed in myself as I felt that I'd failed/was failing to provide an enjoyable experience for some of my group.
Thankfully, I've gotten better about this sort of thing as I've gotten older. Not that anyone here *hasn't* been, but please be patient when I have those moments because I know they can sometimes be tiresome for others to see/experience. Just tell me that I'm being silly and worrying too much when it happens :)
(Occasionally a firmer and harsher verbal kick in the butt works too, but please deliver those privately if you feel the need to go that route!)
Meredith Ulmari |
Welp, now you've done it.
Meredith's going to try to be pretty.
She hates being pretty.
Denair, on the other hand, loves use prestidigitation to spray her with perfume!
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
Sorry guys, I had a sinus headache last night through this morning. Kind of dropped off the radar for the last 24 hours.
Dinner parties? Jan believes he will be more of a liability than an asset, was would really like some 'me time' for some food, beer and shall we say 'personal entertainment.
GM Ladile |
No worries Jan, hope you're feeling better now!
Jan can skip the dinner if he prefers, as long as you the player don't mind being out of the main spotlight for a bit. Just make a post in-character to that effect and I'll see if I can whip up a little side scene for you :)
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
Jan would rather sit outside than go inside and have to act all 'civilized'. Who knows, maybe he will be able to get some more information over a tankard of ale?
Lazarus Logos |
Yeah, I think we're ready to ring the chow bell now.
