That brings up another good point. Find a roommate or two--preferably with good hygiene and few other strange 'issues'--well in advance and make reserving a room your top priority. The PaizoCon announcement includes the code for the block of rooms set aside for the Con, usually at a slightly discounted rate.
GM Ladile |
Okay folks, aside from perhaps some added RP denouement posting (which I will do and is always encouraged) we've completed the scenario! I hope everyone has enjoyed this little two-parter of sorts involving Nelket and her Farheaven clan. The scenario has some reporting conditions to track what happened with the monolith (destroyed, retrieved, or deactivated but left at Dragonskull village) so who knows, perhaps we'll see some of these plot threads revisited in a later PFS2 scenario?
Were there any sections in this scenario that seemed unclear or confusing in their setup or presentation? If there were, please feel free to let me know. Sometimes the strangeness is just a result of the scenario plot but if there is a section that was confusing for the majority then I'd like to know so I can work out how to make things clearer should I run the scenario again in the future.
As stated previously, the next scenario will be #7-02 Six Seconds to Midnight. This scenario takes place in more of an urban setting but has elements that I think even our more nature-oriented characters will enjoy. Since I'm working the next four nights I'm going to declare another short intermission before we begin, which will hopefully give everyone enough time to work out purchases, level up if needed, and determine which character they would like to play. Remember, this next one is a 3-7!
I'll attempt to get reporting and chronicles done either later this evening or tomorrow morning, after work. Until then, feel free to play around over in Gameplay :)

I had a lot of fun on this scenario. It was nice to see encounters that didn't have "Monster fights to the death" as the morale blocks- you don't get to see that often enough. I'm GMing a scenario where "just talk" seems like the right option but the NPC is a stubborn git. It was also nice to use Handle Animal, a rarely used skill. And hey, a nonviolent final resolution? Sweet. Sorry Centaur & Goblin haters.
During the elemental fight, I'm not sure if Meredith & Co would have known elementals are immune to flanking and precision, so the confusion made sense to me. I don't have any real problems with how you ran the encounters or the scenario.
Lazarus Logos |
The GM does an excellent job of providing the PCs clues about a creature's abilities in her description of the effects of PC actions, the actions and responses of the creatures, and the encounter's environment.
I so prefer that method to revealing things in ooc text that breaks the 'fourth wall' and disrupts the immersive feel of the adventure.
I try my best to emulate her in the games I GM myself. Sometimes, I can't find a way to do that effectively, and I'll put the mechanics inside a spoiler or in the Discussion thread.
Great job, GM!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Certainly no complaints on my end. Frankie will never make a knowledge check that is over DC10. He'll be doing lots of trial and error or listening to the advice of his elders.
I'm also a fan of the GM hints on things that aren't working, adding in the ooc later on to make it more evident is nice though to avoid confusion. I've had some GMs add in perception or some such check to notice something like that.
K: Do you have the gold earned total for a jump start on purchases/level ups?
GM Ladile |
Thanks guys! I'm glad the little hints help and add to the flavor of the game :)
And I can do even better, Frankie - you can all find your chronicles >>HERE<< ! As always, let me know if I've made any mistakes and I will get updated chronicles uploaded as soon as I can. The game has also been reported.
Brayden Valdrin |
Thanks for another great game, GM Ladile. I have no complaints either. Standalone, the adventure seemed like it was both interesting and detailed without being too full of superfluous knowledge checks or dialogue that often goes forgotten in play-by-post format. I strongly feel some scenarios need a player to keep a word document of notes with the amount of NPCs and investigation there sometimes is.
But I digress! Great job storytelling and making combat interesting, too.
I'll put a Brayden post up with his exit this weekend.
Meredith Ulmari |
Chronicles look good to me, thanks!
Lazarus Logos |
GM, the only error is the Prestige awarded. Lazarus should only earn 1PP at slow progression.
GM Ladile |
Whoops! At least that isn't hard to fix; I'll get that done tomorrow morning once I have access to my laptop again.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Looks good GM Ladile.
Thanks for running the game!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Looking at his other options, I'm afraid I'll have to forgo that juicy 50g downtime roll for this faction goal:
(0/2)Forgo your Downtime to nonviolently fight for the cause of liberty by spending time organizing protests, freeing slaves, or distributing revolutionary material. Doing so requires a successful Disable Device, Knowledge (local), or Stealth check (DC = 15 + your character level).
Which unfortunately means I'll need a change to my character sheet, sorry K. I should have checked on that sooner.
Taking 10 on stealth nets me a 22 vs DC18.
**On the plus side I only need to do that once more!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Also, can you add in spent 1PP on a wayfinder? I think its about time Frankie had one. I forget to get them on most of my characters, but Frankie would definitely want one.
*Edit: Frankie is now leveled up. Unchained Rogue 4.
Notable additions: Trapspotter talent and upgraded his mithril shirt to +1.
Trap Spotter (Ex): Whenever a rogue with this talent comes within 10 feet of a trap, she can attempt an immediate Perception check to notice the trap. This check should be made in secret by the GM.
GM Ladile |
Frankie & Lazarus, there should now be updated chronicles for you at the same link a few posts up!
@Frankie - Cool deal on Trap Spotter! I'll do my best to remember that you have it but it can't hurt to remind me periodically, just in case :)
*edit* We're leaving Tier 1-5 scenarios behind with this group but if you'd like to see more 'goblins r people 2' style action then I recommend playing #10-06 Treason's Chains at some point. Played it at SvH and had a grand time!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Sounds like a Frankie friendly adventure. Katapesh is always a good place to go if you are in the Liberty's Edge.
I will do my best to remind you of Trap Spotter. I did remember to put it in my tag line at least.

Level 6! Now Cleric-3/Wizard-3.
FCB: +1hp
Added 4 ranks to Linguistics, picking up Aquan, Auran, Ignan, and Terran, and added 1 rank to Knowledge (religion).
Selected 2 new spells: Glitterdust and Summon Monster II.

Sounds like Laz spent the week in an elemental orgy or something. Sounds painful.

Lazarus, are you trying to be a Mystic Theurge? I'm trying with my Samsaran, but the early game is rough.
Lazarus Logos |
Yup. Next level, Lazarus will take the plunge into mystic theurge spellcasting greatness!
He'll never be an overpowered conjurer or healer, but he can play a great supporting roll, which is the sort of PC I like to play.
His ultimate goal is to become a jeweled sage. (I applied a GM Chronicle from #9-07: Salvation of the Sages to him.)
Jeweled Sage (30 PP): Through a ritual you led with the other Jeweled Sages, you have created a sage jewel that will grow in power with you and preserve your knowledge for all time. You gain a +3 insight bonus on Knowledge (history) and Linguistics checks, and all Knowledge skills are class skills for you. Once per day, when attempting a Knowledge skill check, you can roll twice and take the higher result. Additionally, you can cast comprehend languages once per day as a spell-like ability (CL 15th). You are recognized as a leading scholar in many fields and gain +2 circumstance bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks when dealing with other scholars and experts.
GM Ladile |
^You two have more intestinal fortitude than I do. My samsaran (as yet untested) is an inquisitor...of...Ashava...
Damn! I should've played her in the MUM scenarios :(
______________
In other news I was going to make a post in Gameplay before bedtime but I'm going to wait just a little longer in case anyone wants to post a reaction to Brayden deciding to part ways with the group.
Meredith Ulmari |
Oops, that would have been a good PC for the MUM games.
GM Ladile |
Heh...well, there's always replay! I'm coming up on my 2nd GM star and I've still got the replays from that survey OPC did like, two years ago or whenever it was...

Spent a good part of yesterday and last night catching up on sleep (whether I really wanted to or not) and today the internet was down from early morning until just a few minutes ago.
Getting ready to head out for an early dinner (sushi yum) now but I will endeavor to get things rolling again once I return!
GM Ladile |
Hokay folks! Even though we're technically still in intermission I'd like to get the next scenario rolling within the next day or two. Please make sure that all of your leveling up, purchasing, and character swaps (if you're doing so) are wrapped up within that time frame if at all possible. Once you're ready, please post your usual chronicle info and Day Job rolls (if you want to take them now).
I'll go ahead and give a slight heads up now that although my close-out post hints at you heading out to Nerosyan (in Mendev) the scenario proper will start a fair bit south of there, in the town of Tymon (River Kingdoms).
Also...it's still a fair ways off but Jan's suggestion of going to the Land of the Linnorm Kings did give me an idea to maybe try to run #10-19 Corpses in Kalsgard as a future scenario since it takes place in his homeland. That said, it's a 5-9 and we're still a little ways off from everyone being able to participate in 5-9 scenarios so please don't feel obligated to save this scenario if you'd like to play it live!

Good call.
**Edit: Not sure how you want to do my +2 vs traps and surprise perception. I assume it will usually apply if you are group rolling? I added in a '+2' to the macro so I guess just delete it if it doesn't apply in the check?
Also a reminder: I have trap spotter so auto roll for perception vs trap if I get within 10'.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Okay updated the slides.
Here is my Day Job roll: Profession (Porter): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

So on top of having a couple of busy/busyish nights at work I'm also sick with what I'm pretty sure is a sinus infection. Please bot me if you're waiting on me in any of your own games and I'll try again for updates later this evening.
*sigh*
GM Ladile |
Hey folks, I know a couple of you are busy for the next few days and while I don't have any holiday plans I will be working the next four nights starting tomorrow night.
So I'll update as I'm able with work but no rush if you've got better things to do than sit inside and post this weekend :)
GM Ladile |
Hey folks, I'll be heading out of town to DieCon19 and won't return until sometime late Sunday night/early Monday morning. I likely won't have a ton of free time for posting so please feel free to bot me as necessary :)
And no, you do not get to bot me if I'm your GM :P
Meredith Ulmari |
Tomorrow I will be going on vacation in Washington DC. The internet should be good but if I don't post regularly, you know why.
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
I think My/Frankie's head would explode if he could do anything he wanted.. ANYTHING?

GM Ladile |
I'm back and rested and have spent the requisite time with loved ones who missed me (the weirdos) while I was away on my con adventure! Thank you for your patience.
In case you haven't checked over at Flaxseed with the last few days, I now have some new responsibilities as relates to PFS Play-by-Post. While my commitment to our game here (as well as Shore and my TL;DR group) remains unchanged, it's possible that there will be some occasional VO-related-business slowdown, primarily around our conventions.
Also, in accordance with this announcement I will be reporting this scenario, as well as Shore to Sea, now. Chronicles obviously won't be issued until we actually finish but if you prefer to keep track of your sessions and such through Pazio and notice some of your totals for certain characters seem off, that will be why.
Lazarus Logos |
Congrats, Kristin!
GM Ladile |
Thank you! :)
I'm out of time since I need to get ready to head to work; Denair & Frankie's little side conversation with Cerotius as well as Lazarus & Yorad's scanning about for good vantage points will be addressed next chance I get!
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
Kirsten-
Regarding the 'Fairy Mound' knowledge that Jan is running with- I am approaching it from the Hiberno-Norse mythology of such things. Jan may be totally wrong...but he THINKS he is right nonetheless.
GM Ladile |
Thanks for the note; my knowledge of mythology is pretty limited so it'll help to be able to do a little research on my end.

Hey folks, Red (Zav) has informed me that he needs to take a small breather from League for at least the duration of this scenario. So Zav will be heading off to help Jamel and the Embeth Travelers for awhile and will possibly, hopefully, be able to return after this scenario is concluded and before we begin the next.
Lazarus Logos |
Take as long as you need to catch your breath, Red.
Lazarus Logos |
GM, are we limited to the number of checks we can make on each floor?
Is there a sequence of phases for each check or series of checks?
How much time remains before the experiment is scheduled to begin?
Seems we can make at least one check per floor plus a DC20 Perception check, but if we Take 20 on Perception, it takes longer. (Maybe too much time to investigate the entire tower?)
GM Ladile |
You got into town around 6:30 pm and we'll say the time spent talking to Mayor Ogden + the initial interlude at the Oaken Knot + Jan's hour out in the woods totals up to about 2 hours spent. So the time is currently 8:30 and you've got 3 hours, 15 minutes until you need to get back out to the square.
Everyone can try any or all of the checks with one exception, noted below.
The only hard 'sequence' is the DC 20 Perception check on each floor; if at least one of you makes that check for each floor then everyone may attempt the Craft/Profession/Appraise/Kn. Engineering/Kn. Arcana/Kn. Planes check - pick one of those.
It'll take at least 30 minutes to thoroughly examine the 1st and 2nd floors and then 20 minutes to examine the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. So at the bare minimum you're looking at another hour or so in here to be poking around if you want to hit every single floor.

Thanks for understanding and my apologies for dropping out. I expect things to slow down a little for me once the next scenario rolls around. In the meantime, I'll avoid the Gameplay thread so as not to pick up any spoilers in the case I play this again in the future :)
Enjoy the game!
GM Ladile |
Normally I take silence as assent to move things forward but given that it's the weekend and that I've been rather busy at work tonight, I'm going to wait just a bit longer before I nudge the action ahead.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads, grandpas, step-dads, godfathers, and father-figures out there! Hope you have a fantabulous day today!
If you (general you) have reason to find today sad rather than joyful, I hope you're able to have a good day today just the same. Hang in there, okay?
For everyone else, Happy Sunday :)
