I'll catch up and respond; when I said you guys were trying to jump ahead I meant that most of you had posted actions and dialogue that assumed you'd get to just waltz right on inside :)
Velia normally keeps her door locked and is a bit cagey about letting just anyone inside but I took the dialogue and diplomacy rolls that several of you had already made and wrote my response under the assumption that that's what was said to convince her to let you guys inside - and convince her you did, as all the aiding helped to reach the 'nnnnhhhh I guess you can come in' threshold. It wasn't that big of a deal and (by my way of looking at things) it wouldn't have served any purpose for me to say, "No, hard stop, you're still outside and need to talk your way inside so make those rolls again' except slowing things down unnecessarily. And to be far, normally you can just walk right into most places like the Fox Den so I can't really blame anyone for trying to push things forward as such :)
Now if I've made too many assumptions about everyone going inside when some of you wanted to stay outside, I can correct that!

Okay, so...in my experience, some GMs prefer to be less transparent about the 'mechanics' behind sections like our current encounter. There are times where I do believe that less transparency is more appropriate, based on the individual circumstances and what the PCs know or don't know. In this case, I believe it's better to step outside of the game for a moment to clearly lay down the nitty gritty of 'Here's what you need to accomplish and here are some of the ways you can do it'.
In this case, I gave as much information as I did so that way you know exactly what needs to be done (help Mireille escape) and you also know that you're not strictly pigeonholed into using one set method (such as Stealth, which would be the most obvious solution to most players) - which should, I hope, allow everyone to get creative with their actions and not feel constrained to doing just one thing that their character may not be suited for or would even think of doing in the first place.
I've also found that some players tend to operate under the viewpoint of 'if the GM doesn't say it's an option, then I assume it's not an option' so sometimes being more transparent can help avoid confusion and the like as well.
Hope that makes sense!
GM Ladile |
Hey hey folks, I'm working tonight and tomorrow night so updates may be a bit slow until Sunday but I'll try and get a post up next good chance I get!
Lazarus Logos |
It seems we're not in combat rounds (yet) but are taking turns with our actions, choosing one of the listed options, offering to do something else creative, or at least trying to aid someone else (only a DC10, usually).
Having cast bless on everyone inside the Fox Den, Lazarus is awaiting a response from Mireille regarding his offer to let her use his wand of monkey fish, before deciding what to do next.
GM Ladile |
As of right now we're not in combat rounds but sort of...pseudo-rounds, I guess you could call them? If things get ugly then we'll switch to proper combat rounds, of course... :)
Also, one of my first tables that I ran for PbP was Reaping What We Sow for PbP Gameday VI last fall and I had a stretch of time where my group reached their destination...and then everyone promptly split up in six different directions to check things out and chat people up. So to save my sanity, I wrote individual posts addressing each character's conversation/actions so that I could keep track of what was what and so I didn't continually hit my players with big huge wall-o-text posts that they had to pick through to find what was relevant to them.
It seemed to work well enough then and so I thought that I would handle this part in a similar manner - especially since a lot of things are happening concurrently!
GM Ladile |
My current waking state can be best summed up as 'buhhhhhhh' so I'm going to get some sleep and catch up on Gameplay a bit later :)
GM Ladile |
Had a bunch of work nonsense crop up that's kept me busy through the night; I'll try and get caught up sometime this morning after work if I can.
GM Ladile |
So I have today and tomorrow off and hope to be able to use some of that time to motor along here! Updates to come later this afternoon/evening :)
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
No worries, just enjoying bantering around with Frankie. I feel bad for this woman's house when she gets back. He'll blame it on the guards I'm sure :)
Lazarus Logos |
Attending Gamestorm in Portland this weekend. Should still be able to post once a day.
Lazarus Logos |
Do you need another check from Lazarus? Seems like one more check from those who haven't posted this "round," right?
GM Ladile |
Yeah, go ahead and make one more check if you haven't already. Working again tonight but hopefully I'll be able to make another round of posts soonish :)
GM Ladile |
Hey ho guys, I hoped to have updates for you this morning but I ran out of time last night and must head off to work today. I'll do my best to get us moved along tonight after work!
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Frankie may do some driving of his own storyline for a bit if you don't mind. Meredith may or may not be along for the ride, her choice! VRRRROOOOM!!
GM Ladile |
Hah! Nah, I'm glad you folks are willing and able to take the reigns to amuse yourselves when things are slow on my end. I feel like the worst GM right now but as much as I wanted to get the game updated before work this morning I don't believe I'll have the time to do proper justice to everything that you guys have written - so, if you'll bear with me just a bit longer, I *will* update you guys tonight after work. I've thankfully got tomorrow off and so I won't have to go to bed early.
As always, thank you for your patience.

Friends, with a couple of scenarios rapidly reaching their conclusion, I’m in search of a game with a great PbP GM and players. Can you let me know if there’s a party in search of another Pathfinder?
I’ve got several PCs available: Alchemist-2, Warpriest-2, Vigilante-3, Swashbuckler/Bard/Investigator-4, Shaman-5, Cleric-6, Bard/Gunslinger/Investigator/Swashbuckler-6, Magus-7, and Inquisitor-10
Also, I’ve offered to run the new replayable, evergreen quest #9-16 Fallen Family, Broken Name (Tiers 1-5) for someone I know, who’s got a level-3 PC, who’d like to give PbP a try.
If you’re interested, let me know.
Thanks,
Larry

You have been making a post for each scene. Don't worry about it, it's fine. As much as I'm concerned, this is the best scenario I've played :D
Brayden Valdrin |
Yeah seriously, take your time!
As someone whose posting rate is sporadic depending on how busy I am at work/what I'm doing after work, I totally get it. Weekends are much better for me!

If you have need for another character for this I can bring Dale my know it all alchemist. But if you have others in mind that's fine with me.
There aren't many games opening up at present that I'm aware of. Damn you must have gotten those higher characters up from F2F games!

Dale would be welcome to join the party, Massee. That brings us to four players, including Red and two others, both new to PbP but excited at the prospect. More info to follow in the coming days.
These are many of my favorite PCs. I don't want to "waste" them on F2P games so much. Better RP and flavor in PbP.

I think we're winding down the encounter at this point.

Hey folks, just a note that I'll be heading out of town later today for a work training trip and won't be back until late on Friday the 20th. I'll have my laptop but the amount of free time I'll have to use it after today (Sunday) is uncertain. I imagine I *should* have a few hours free each evening and so I'll be looking to at least hopefully manage a 1/day posting rate for the games that I'm GMing :)
Sǣran Imledrith |
Hey all, I planned to post this evening but it seems like I am too tired to read all the stuff that you have been posting! I will do so tomorrow, in the meantime please feel free to move ahead :)
Lazarus Logos |
Aren't we getting back on the ship to head to our next destination? Should be able to retrieve items left on the ship.
GM Ladile |
I've yet to catch up just yet but no, you won't be getting back on the ship - you'll be on foot. However you'll be able to retrieve any checked weapons and the like from the ship before leaving Corentyn. Does that make sense?
Meredith Ulmari |
Oh, if Angelmire isn't in Corentyn then we can get our weapons again. No way are we going to walk through this town, heavily armed and not raise suspicion :)
GM Ladile |
Hey folks! While there's still some stuff to be done here, I do want to mention that we're approaching the end of this particular scenario - yay! Hopefully everyone has been enjoying themselves, even with the slightly-erratic pacing! While I hope everyone is interested in continuing on to Part 2 after this, I also completely understand if anyone wishes to either drop entirely or would like to keep playing but perhaps with a different PC. Be thinking it over and let me know relatively soonish as I'll need to account for character swaps when I bridge the gap between the end of Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2 :)

I enjoyed playing this scenario so much, thanks both to the incredible group and the GM. My schedule is going to be a little more compressed in the next few months as I get back to Italy and prepare myself to move over to the United States in fall. As much as I would love to continue this, I feel like it would be better for me to bow out once we complete part 1, both to allow me to take care of my real life things and not to hold back the group with my rather slow posting rating. I plan to start a PbP scenario as a GM in summer as part of Pathfinder Playtest, and I have to take that into account too. I thank you so much for making this my best experience with PFS so far!

Thanks for playing with us! And good luck in all that stuff, sounds daunting.
Frankie never gives up on an adventure, and if Meredith needs to keep an eye on him then so be it :)
Also, Frankie's day job:
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Thieves' Guilde (4 PP): Nearly every community, from the smallest village to the teeming metropolis, has a criminal underground, and most have one or more thieves' guilds to look out for the interests of those on the opposite side of the law. As a member of one such thieves' guild, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus on Sleight of Hand checks to steal items without being noticed. You can use Sleight of Hand to make Day Job rolls.

Dalen's in all the way. She's the only PFS character I've still got sheets for. :D
GM Ladile |
It'll be a bummer to see you go Saeran, but I'm glad you were able and willing to join us for the first part! Of course we've still got a bit to do yet so no need to say your goodbyes right away :)
Hokay! Since it looks like we'll have a spot vacant for Part 2, does anyone have any suggestions on a player to invite? Or would you guys prefer to stick to 5 players?
Lazarus Logos |
I'd love to find a player with a melee-focused PC. I'd like to ask a friend who's new to PbP but an active PFS contributor as my V-L. (He's playing Thysius in my PbP session of The Disappeared right now.)
GM Ladile |
Sure, hit him up and send him this way if he's interested!
Also, doing the work thing today so updates proper to come later this evening >.>
Lazarus Logos |
Pat agreed to join us for parts 2 and 3. He's got a level-3 Ranger (Divine Tracker).
Jan Eriksson 0101 |
Hello Fellow Pathfinders!
Looking forward to joining you all for part 2 and 3. To be honest, my Ranger is currently level 2, but I was hoping to play him this weekend to get him to 3 before part 2 begins.
He is definitely an Ulfen- sword and board build. On a mission to destroy the EVIL WITCHES of Irrisen at all costs! (well, maybe not all costs).
Guisseppe "Lil Frankie" Franko |
Frankie tugs on the beard "This thing real? How'd you get so tall? Why are you wearing all that fur? Did you make that yourself? Why do you talk so funny?" Geez that guy is GRUMPY!
Meredith Ulmari |
Frankie, leave his beard alone!
Lazarus Logos |
Sorry, folks. I probably won't have time to post till tomorrow evening.
Lazarus Logos |
I'm back! Ready to get moving again.
Just finished GMing #8-17 Refugees of the Weary Sky (Tiers 7-11) (F2F at our new venue in Tacoma). Now I've got all the Scarab Sages scenarios ready to apply to Lazarus! My goal was to get it done before the end of Season 9. He'll jump to level 5 as soon as we finish the Faithless and Forgotten campaign arc, then has a few banked at slow progression for when he reaches level 7.
