Just curious, why that ring? Do you have a particular RP reason or? Its really the only reason I've ever gotten one. Sounds useful but in PFS it really has never come up as needed.

100% RP. Meredith is getting more and more plant-like features, and she hasn't had the urge to eat or sleep as much. The ring seems like a good way to balance it out.

Mechanically, it's a waste in PFS. If Meredith is locked in a room for long enough she'd to starve to death the mission has failed at that point.

Before I hit level 2, Meredith was a sorcerer, using the Verdant bloodline. I don't like Tanglevine (takes 1 round to sprout the vine, then another round to actually use it?) And I wouldn't get Denair. So I made her a Summoner focused on Fey. I do like the Photosynthesis power, though. Mechanically it's a ring of sustenance with a +2 bonus against poison and sleep effects. Instead of waiting for level 11 and burning 3 feats to duplicate it, I'll just buy the ring and burn 1 feat for Great Fortitude.

...Also it's nice to not buy the default Ring of Protection +1 for once.

Heh, Frankie will have that ring of pro! And a ring of mind shielding. By the time I can afford mind shielding I'm pretty sure his little soft mind will have been charmed/confused/attacked plenty.

Besides, kids are supposed to be hard to figure out!

^Hey, my cleric has access to purchase a Rope of Climbing and I plan to pick it up for her. Because even with eventual flight magic, you never know when such a thing might come in handy!
______________

So I went and played in a Starfinder Society game with my local lodge this evening. Only my second SFS scenario ever (my first was at DieCon last June) but I had a good time. I had a good time when I played at DieCon. It's really just been due to a lack of time/mental bandwidth that I've been slow to hop on the Starfinder train. Well, that and the fact that I'm not quite as into sci-fi/science fantasy as I am just regular fantasy. All the PF2ed stuff hasn't helped either.

I've noticed (based on the whopping two scenarios I've played plus general vibes from listening to other people) that SFS seems much more 'campy' in tone than PFS. This doesn't bother me and I actually appreciate having a setting where certain types of silliness seem more appropriate than what you get in Pathfinder. Of course the Starfinder APs might be written with a more serious sort of tone, I'm not sure.

Anyhoo, I can see myself doing more with Starfinder in the future but as a player and not as a GM. I'd rather stick with PF1ed and also plan to learn (and eventually GM unless I totally hate it) PF2ed so my Starfinder stuff will be secondary - at least for now.

(That said, today's SFS scenario? Pretty fun at a live table but OMG there's all sorts of roleplay potential that would make it perfect to run via PbP.)

So, who's signing up/signed up to GM for OutPost II? After posing a question to Hmm it's unlikely that anything we'll be running here will fall under that particular umbrella for boon purposes, so just a heads up if anyone was curious about it. I mean, we could wait until March to start #10-12 but I'd prefer not since the longer our downtime goes, the more likely it is for folks to lose interest in things here.

I'll probably sign up to GM a table but probably not Solstice Scar D. We've not even started for RetroCon yet but I already have a feeling that I'll need another break from running specials by the time we get done...

Yeah, I'm with you there in preferring to start our next game here before March.

I've signed up to run two more tables during OutPost II, one which may be for the Red Arm table if it matches the requested subtier, and another Starfinder game. I've kept my plate pretty light over the past 6 weeks with only playing in 1 game and running 1 game, but I'm in a better position now to take on a few more tables :) I don't think anyone here plays Starfinder, but if any of you do, you are welcome at my table!

I signed up to GM the Special, Solstice Scar D, and one more scenario.

I'd like to find another PbP game to play now, though, if any of you have a good lead. Itching to get one or more of my favorite PCs into action again.

Season of Ghosts

@Brayden - Depending on what you end up GMing, I might try playing my one Starfinder character!

@Lazarus - No leads in particular at the moment beyond whatever might pop up in Flaxseed but I know Meredith's player finished her scenario with Sheela the other day so I'm hoping to try and get that 'From Shore to Sea' game rolling soon.

Right now the sing up is only for GMs only.

But there are more details here.

Player sign ups will show up... soonish?

Season of Ghosts

Oh gosh, howdy Hmm! I wasn't meaning to make any sort of big deal out of things regarding OutPost; it was more of a curiosity. This group here just finished Scourge of the Farheavens and are on board to play #10-12 Breath of the Dragonskull once it becomes available....but if we want to play it it has to be our next scenario, otherwise people are going to level out of tier for it, even with slow-tracking. But I'd rather not ask people to wait until nearly the middle of March before we pick things up again.

My other table (TL;DR) are currently working on House of Harmonious Wisdom; they'll probably be done with that by the time OutPost starts and the next scenario up for them will be...probably Shrine of the Sacred Tempest but Shores of Heaven and Unseen Inclusion are also possibilities.

The Exchange

820-8 | Female Aasimar Mysterious Avenger Swashbuckler

How fast do you guys think you'll go? You could reserve the scenario after 10-12 for your Outpost gig, if you're moving fast enough.

Hmm

PS I'm posting as Doom Girl rather than in my offical GM Hmm persona because I wanted to just check in, casually. This isn't an official visit. I just wanted to see if I could figure out a way to have your group be part of Outpost.

Yes, soonish. We're just sorting through GM applications now. Have you thought about GMing? We could put you on something low-level if it is your first time.

Heh....I think I'm one of the slower GMs around but assuming we get started right around the first of February that gives us, oh...what, 5-6 weeks before OutPost starts? I think we could get a good portion of it done before then - I'll just have to make sure I step on the gas a little more usual!

But then we'll have to figure out the next scenario...with people leveling up that'll put us in the 3-7 range so I'll have to double check (again) and see what options will be available!

So the TL;DR guys ended up going off the rails a bit in their current scenario...

House of Harmonious Wisdom: Inkstains:

Since the group is a mix of lawful and chaotic alignments there were some pretty obvious differences of opinion on how to get the map. The lawful guys, unsurprisingly, weren't interested in engaging in theft to get what they need. So when one of them took the opportunity to say, "I'm going back out to get dinner before bedtime" I thought okay, great - we'll let him see a suspicious light up in the main hall and then give them the chance to thwart the robbery and get the map that way.

All goes more or less like I expected it to with a couple of guys watching the front door, one sneaking inside and upstairs to scout out what was happening, and another circling around behind the building. The one that circles around back climbs up to the open window, looks into the office and sees the guy inside gettin' his theft on.

(The person scouting out in the hallway doesn't have DD and is halted by the locked office door so they duck into the office across the hall to watch and wait).

So, stealthy climber guy sneaks into the office...but instead of trying to grapple the thief or conk him on the noggin', shanks the guy and then takes the map from his still-alive-and-bleeding body and hightails it back out the window while the scout across the hall hears the commotion and starts calling for help from the others.

And so instead of a cinematic skill-check chase scene we get...something else. But sometimes the unexpected turns are what makes GMing so much fun :P

Hey guys! For anyone currently wondering, #10-12 should become available for purchase tomorrow. With the exception of Friday night I'm off from now until next Tuesday so once I'm able to get the scenario I'm hoping it'll only take me a day or two to get the prep done so we can get League rolling again!

Aaaaaand, I'm also just about done with prep for Shore to Sea! I've already got the campaign set up, which you can find here. Hey guys, they posted the information for the new OSP program and you can find it here. Go check it out!

Based on the wording I'm guessing games ran for established or hand-picked groups don't count which is a bit of a bummer but I also understand the reasoning behind it. That said, if you like to open recruit from Flaxseed then I'd definitely take advantage on this once they get all the details ironed out with the reporting side of things :)

Cool, it's a different GM boon than the RSP GM boon.

A couple of months ago I traded my Gen Con catfolk/rougarou boon for a dhampir boon. 2019's RSP boon? Dhampir, dhammit!

The OSP's changeling sounds interesting. Never had one of those.

Season of Ghosts

A Changeling would be pretty cool but isn't something I'm just dying to get hold of. I've got several boon race PCs that I've barely had a chance to play and an unused Ganzi that I have no idea what to do with.

I'm holding out hope that they'll make Catfolk available at some point as one of the race boons for a particular quarter since it's the only other race that I'd strongly like to play that I don't already have a boon for.

Most of that went over my head, but it sounds like if I do PFS I can sign up for extra boons?

Season of Ghosts

It's basically the online version of the Region Support Package (RSP) that exists for PFS in meat-space. It's set up to allow people to GM their way to whatever (race) boon is being offered at the time. The idea is to allow places that might not be able to support a convention and/or for people who play but can't afford to go to conventions the chance to get nifty things - by encouraging them to GM games.

So basically from now until the end of January 2020 if you publicly recruit for a PFS (or SFS) game such as via Flaxseed Lodge or Flaxseed Station, you can get credit for GMing those games and it'll go towards earning a Changeling race boon. But it has to be games that are not ran as part of an online convention; so you can't get credit for the OSP by running a game for OutPost II or PbP Gameday.

Does that make sense?

Liberty's Edge

Season of Ghosts

That's a lot of incense! But that shouldn't be a problem :)

Season of Ghosts

You guys really spoil me as a GM, you know that right?

Bragging on You Guys + Other Potentially Sensitive Thoughts:

You're all always so happy to take things and run with them and make the game and stories it tells your own. I always appreciate the effort each of you put into your posts no matter what - even during those times where it might seem like I don't or when I forget to address something one of you has done or said.

(And if I ever do fail to address something you wanted addressed, just give me a nudge - it's much more likely that I just forgot rather than just ignored it.)

I've had (and have) some great players in my other games but sometimes it's like pulling teeth to get people to roleplay and react to the things I post and react to each other. In most cases I tell myself that it's likely just a difference in playstyle rather than people being bored with what I'm doing as a GM but man, it is such a buzzkill sometimes to have days go by with only half (if that) of the group participating in the action.

(Barring reasonable life absences of course; I've had players sick recently and a couple of players I know IRL are almost always out of pocket on weekends. Stuff like that is different.)

Still, things like the above are why I've grown to dislike just open recruiting from Flaxseed. While I've been fortunate to have never had any major problems with anyone that I've GMed for, there are a number of players that I would personally prefer not to GM for (ever or again) just because I don't think our styles mesh well - but they're also usually the same players that sign for any and everything as soon as it's posted.

(Oddly enough, I've sometimes wound up with minimalist-style players who say that they really enjoy my games which puzzles me a little but I do appreciate the vote of confidence just the same.)

I wish I had Hmm's patience for trying to nudge and lead people into getting into the roleplay side of things more but I've discovered my patience only goes so far. I'll do my best to try and offer hooks and 'ins' for people to participate but if they don't want to participate beyond the bare minimum, well...I'll shift my energies more towards the people who actually act excited to be here and play. Enthusiasm, it's the best thing ever. I'm happy to work with someone through a lot of mistakes and other things if they seem like they're happy to be present and able to play. Act like you're excited to be here, damnit! That's all I want to see. We can work on the rest.

If you're playing pbp and you aren't putting in the effort to RP your character then you are doing the whole table a disservice. Players have it easy in RP games compared to the GM, always have. Its the responsibility of the players to help develop the game, not just the GM. The players feed off the hooks the GM provides, then in turn provide their own. I wish more players would take that into account, I'm just glad I found a bunch that do!

If I just want to bash some skulls, I have plenty of video games that are faster to set up. I use this for a lot of brainstorming, character development, and writing opportunities. It was only through these last few games that I figured out what I wanted to do with Meredith. And Denair.

One of my favorite PCs had to leave an Emerald Spire game because the GM and players were too distant. Some of the posts from the GM were just one-line results of the checks, and this has been going on for months. I wanted to complete it and have a seeker, but she will remain at level 10 for a while.

Anyway, I'm saying thanks for providing me a chance to build my character. There are plenty of other ways I can bash badguys and bust heads, but there are few places I get to RP. I bet even the quiet people thanked you for that, even if they didn't know how to contribute.
