GM Harker's PFS Season 4 Campaign

Okay I am leveled, bought 20 blunt arrows to replace the "lost" arrows I might have from them. I'll buy cold iron after this next scenario since I carry 50 at a time, plus my specials. Nothing else much to buy, since I am not in a place I can afford a magic armor upgrade and with all the melee folks, I tend not to be in melee.

Bonus Ranger Feat: Point Blank Master--I do not provoke AOO while using a ranged weapon. Snap shot coming next feat so I can threaten while using a bow, unless you all have advice to steer me away.

The big change for me (and assume others) is now I get 2 attacks per round. Over the next couple of days I'll be adding all attacks to my profile, with all bonuses figured to give GM Harker all the info he needs.

Caster Level is 5 (due to trait) so my Gravity Bows now last 5 minutes. I still can only cast twice per day, with one extra from the Pearl of Power.

Just as an FYI, I have finished school and am looking for a new job. I hate looking for jobs, but sadly it's required. My schedule is odd because of this. I hope to have one soonish.

Halkale, do you think you might get more value from Improved Precise Shot to ignore soft cover and the like? As you just pointed out, you're not in melee much so Point Blank Master won't come in to play much. Just a thought. :-)

Quiella, you are right and I totally missed the feat in the list. I've made the change, so I'll update the profile. HAH no more GM Harker saying I missed due to you meat shields lovely melee folks.

I did an audit of my sheet, and realized I cannot take Deflect Arrows as I don't meet the pre-reqs.I replaced it with Scorpion Style. I am using hero-lab to double check my other stuff.

I don't track expenditures on wands or the like, you'll probably want to go through your posts. If you pull up your profile, you can just see what you posted on this alias under the 'Posts' tab. It's a little easier than combing through the whole thread.

I sometimes still have to look at adjacent posts to see people burning charges off my wand, or to check if I was burning charges of off theirs.

I am doing a special training thing at work. It is pretty disruptive to my normal schedule, so I don't know what posting will look like for me this week. Bot me if necessary.

For leveling up Mel, I know I should just take another level of magus, but I've been toying with the idea of another class. I've pretty much talked myself out of the wisdom/charisma classes like druid and sorcerer because Mel does not excel there. But I'm still thinking about rogue, archanist, and witch. They seem to add some cool features, but adding a few 1st level things to a level 5 char seems like a waste. On the other hand, from a role-playing perspective, I could possibly see Mel dabbling in those other classes again.

Thoughts/advice?

I do plan to buy him a wand of vanish, that was pretty fun, even though the wand will only last for 1 round.

If I wind up with a bonded object from another class, the ability to cast a spell from the spellbook is limited to the class that I got the bonded object from, or all of my classes? I assume just the one, but figure I'd ask anyway.

Looking at Arcanist (Blade Adept). If I went that way, could I make my existing rapier be the black blade (ie, it got smart), or would I have to have another (and would it be jealous)? I need to read more about what the black blades do (nothing at first level, I assume).

The other thing I'm looking at is the Witch with the Fly hex (does not fly, but can cast feather fall at will). Is that allowed? And probably a monkey familiar.

And I assume that I can only cast magus spells via spell combat. ie, none of the witch, arcanist, etc spells.

The bonded object can only be used to cast spells from the class it originated from.

I believe you get a new sword as your bonded object if you take that Arcanist archetype.

You can take the flight hex at first level as a witch.

I also believe you can only cast magus spell with spell combat.

None of your magus spells slots can be used to cast spells from other spellcasting classes (and vice versa), although you could scribe spells you get from the arcanist class into your magus spellbook (assuming they are magus spells) and be able to cast them (just not with the same spell slot, and you would still have to pay the costs to write them in the other book).

All Chronicle sheets for Way of the Kirin have been sent out and I've submitted the information for reporting.

We'll get started on 5-14: Day of the Demon on or around November 28th to avoid starting during a holiday week in the U.S.

Vailis has played that scenario already, so I'll be looking for someone to fill his slot temporarily then have Vailis return for all subsequent scenarios. I would offer to run another scenario concurrently for Vailis' benefit, but I'm afraid I'm at my limit of PbP games at the moment and couldn't adequately keep up with them all if I added another. I encourage Vailis to use GM credit to make up the XP for the missing scenario, although if that's not a viable option please let me know and we can work something out.

I appreciate Harker, but do not worry, I will enjoy the pause. I have a couple real life events next month I can use to compensate XP.

Thanks for the break GM, started my new job and it's a new schedule and after a few months of unemployment my time is a bit odd, plus, the holiday. I'll get Halkale updated by the 28th.

Mel I would urge you to think about multiclassing another time, you are already at half the BAB Halkale is, so your melee attacks may suffer. Although, I am no expert on any of this. Are you doing it to fulfill your vision of your character? If so, great have at it. Just not sure what you are going for.

I really don't know what I'm going for. I was just liking the various abilities. Back when I had time to play MMORPGs, a was one of those people with way too many alts. But yes, I did eventually decide to stay with magus. I was just about to post his changes.

Although once I decided to stay with magus, I then struggled with what wand to grab. I had originally intended to pick Vanish, but then I realized it was only for one round whereas the spell would be five. I was totally sold on Hydraulic Push because of its apparent ability to knock someone prone with no save. But then a little research revealed that was just flavor text. Somehow I landed on Stumble Gap and True Strike. Although if you think it wise, I could still spend 2PP for a wand of vanish too.

My arcane pool is still at 7, but now it gives me a +2 bonus on the weapon I charge, instead of +1.
For spells, I get an extra 1st and 2nd level readied. So here is what my default selection will look like.

0: Daze, Detect Magic, Disrupt Undead, Read Magic
1: Burning Hands, Expeditious Retreat, Hydraulic Push, Shocking Grasp, Vanish
2: Cat's Grace, Darkness, Mirror Image

So what do you think?

Some people a wand/scroll/potion of vanish expiring as soon as your turn ends on the turn you cast it. Not worth it with those interpretations out there (especially since they seem to be right)

I believe the save DC of Stumble Gap from a wand is only 11, making it unlikely higher level enemies are going to fail the save.

OK, I'll chill. I'll pass on the stumble gap and just buy true strike. However, I will use 2PP to buy it instead of gold. Hopefully I can get a +2 dex belt after next adventure.

Quiella has less than 4k so I don't think she will be making any significant purchases.

Ring of Protection doesn't stack with Shield of Faith so there's no point in Quiella buying one until she can afford a +2

Let me know who you thing would be the best fit for the party or thematically the best fit for the scenario. What is the current APL?

I invited Debug to fill in for Day of the Demon and obviously he's accepted. Everyone else is level 6, so no matter what you play it's going to round up to 6. I don't have a preference on which character you play, although the other players might. The title of the scenario might be a clue to the scenario's theme.

I'll get things started late tomorrow, so the start time might bleed into early Wednesday Eastern time in the US.

Just got my shopping done for Ophelia. Here's the breakdown.

Also, GM, I'll be spending a GM star to replay this scenario. We had a last-minute scenario change back in April, and rather than bork the tables further, I put my cartomancer through it (I remember very little of it, so I doubt I'd be capable of metagaming even if I wanted to). I'll remind you closer to the end of the scenario, because I believe you'll need to mark it on my chronicle.

No demon shall be spared...

This character is... very odd to put it mildly. Rather than having opportune parry and riposte, he has opportune redirect and riposte which allows him to make an attack roll to parry a melee attack targetting an adjacent ally and rather than block it, force it to target me instead. I also can spend panache to hand out teamwork feats, and I have Broken Wing Gambit as my feat of choice. I'll make sure to put some 'if x happens I parry' clauses in my posts, probably in a spoiler tag for the GM and have the GM roll on my behalf so I don't slow things down.

I also give all allies a +1 dodge bonus to AC when they are adjacent to me.

As far as my gunslinger levels, I have the Techslinger archetype thanks to a boon on a chronicle so I'll be... weird. I believe my character sheet is up to date, I'll check it against my paper copy when I get home.

Looking forward to seeing your character in action. I'm planning to do an Ifrit Picaroon/Mysterious Stranger sometime.

Thanks for the head's up, William. In regards to your swashbuckler archetype, please let me know if I miss or forget something in combat. Rolling your potential parry dice in a spoiler would probably be for the best, but I can do it for you as necessary.

I have not linked any maps for this game as of yet, all the links under my name or in the campaign header are to the last scenario. I'll give everyone access to the new maps as they go up.

At the end of the last scenario, my sword was storing shocking grasp. Is that still true. Or do I need to recast it? Or is it a moot point because several days will pass before our first encounter, and I would have refreshed the spell by then anyway?

Oh, other note. I regain panache in different ways than most characters. The following conditions regain panache for me:

Critical hit or Killing blow with a firearm against creatures with at least half my level in HD.

If an ally other than me gets a killing blow on a creature with at least half my level in HD.

Mel, the scenario starts in Absalom, but you'll be traveling to Cheliax. I'm fine with saying Mel starts every scenario with Shocking Grasp cast into his sword.

That is an impressively low PFS number. I take some pride in my own being only 5 digits long, while everyone else in my city is sitting at 6, but a four-digit is genuinely cool.

I'm sick and probably won't post much for a day or two.

WRT low number, friend convinced me to sign up early for an event and then I didn't use it again for years. By the time I actually got into pfs new numbers were well into the 5 digit range. His number is in the 2000 range.

Just realized I haven't updated Ophelia's profile in some time. Will do so after tonight's PFS game, including her prepared spells, since those humanoid-only ones may not be terribly useful. (Officer Ripley of the Pathfinder Police will be starting the Devil You Know quadrilogy...)

I'm back in reasonably good working order. Still cant talk, but that's no issue for PbP. My in-person game tonight will be interesting though...

Ugh. I'm about to post in gameplay, catch up on some things, check the books (that +10 Will is pretty good right now). It's been a very preoccupying couple of weeks, between holidays and pets. My puppy's broken his wrist, so I'm basically watching him all the time to make sure he doesn't run and jump around like puppies do constantly. It's been hard to get the time to work out a post between his all-too-short naps. Pets are adorable, expensive, pains in the neck!

Sorry for the delay in posting. I expected to catch up over the weekend but spent literally all weekend helping my parents move. I hope to be caught up by the end of tomorrow.

As a heads-up, the keyboard cover of my Surface has carked it. I'm relying on handwriting recognition, which is useless and cramps my hand, so I have to post from my (cracked) phone. As a result, I'll be spotty for a few days while I wait on a replacement.

Valik: Ioun Torch (Level 2 light source, given to him by Mel)
Ophelia: Wayfinder (Level 1 light source)

If anyone else has some form of light you activated earlier, please let me know.
