Amaria the Huntress |
My only issue with this way is that some of us who have been with the party since the beginning are gold starved, since all adventure paths go through feast and famine stages. With players that have been added in with proper wealth by level, why should some items that were found in the first month be given to new characters who were added last week?
Agreed.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
I find the most fair way to split items is to figure out the liquid value of all the items, then allow party members to "buy" the item at cost with a share of their liquid loot. If people need a bit of a loan to get a big item, it can come out of the kitty but that character gets reduced haul on the next give.
Also, if two people want the same item they can either bid on it or buy a second and split the cost increase.
*sigh*
Well, if the majority wants to divide loot this way, I'll agree to it.
I have played this way, and while I agree that it's the most numerically "fair" way to divide loot, it's also the most time-consuming/annoying to adjucate. It also seems to breed the most intra-party resentment... at least in my experience.
Plus, this method tends to devalue the "cool" items that are less universally useful but have a high price tag: Under this loot division method, these items almost always get sold. Personally, I like having the oddball, situationally-appropriate items at hand. Plus, I've seen powerful "quest items" get sold under this division method... which has on more than one occasion required the PCs to go on a side-quest to get that item back!
I would vote for a more free-form "the character who most benefits should get it" method, even if that might result in some disparity in each individual PC's total wealth. That dispartity should naturally shift over time... sometimes the fighter gets a bunch of awesome weapons and armor; sometimes the wizard gets a bunch of arcane weirdness. Obviously, one character shouldn't always get all the cool stuff, so there would need to be some compromise... like if a character hasn't gotten a decent item in a while, they should maybe get to keep an item that would otherwise be sold, or a larger share of the treasure.
[When I GM, I try to avoid that situation by customizing the loot I hand out to the party, making sure that the stuff the PCs recover is appropriate to the PCs and relatively even in power/value.]
GM Harker |
When I play, we typically give out the most useful items to the person who needs/wants it, rolling dice if two people can use it equally. The rest of the items are sold. Then we either divide the gold into equal shares or have one person acting as the banker who distributes gold based on shopping lists provided by each member of the party.
With the easy of buying magical items in the Pathfinder system, I typically just go with what items are in the pre-written source since if no one can use it, it can just be sold to buy easily obtainable items that can be used.
Sophie Kundegard |
I have no preference on methodology and am fine with a smaller share of loot based on the times I was absent.
Loot division always leads to some book keeping, so I admit I like any method that makes for less work, even if it is less fair.

Vivian Deberth |
I'm fine with either way, honestly.
I think that we can split the treasure honestly between ourselves, if not evenly, meaning that everyone got at least one object of his choice, and the rest of the loot divided to best benefit the group (more than individuals)
Bert Shieldworn |
I don't think I earned treasure I wasn't there for, but in the future, you might want to do a loot distribution prior to bringing in new players.
I will need to see if I can get a weapon up to +1 or figure out how to be a little more useful with incorpreal folks.

Okay...
So here is my proposal on how to divvy up the loot. This is just a proposal, and I'm open to suggestions. I have marked the Loot List accordingly.
The PCs that were here from the start are: Stefan, Vivian, and Tara.
The original characters Sentir, Drace, and Teil have resigned (the player of Teil is bringing in a new PC).
Sophie and Bert joined the party just before the exploration of Harrowstone. (So did Theodor, but he has also resigned.)
Amaria has just shown up.
I am going to propose that the stuff we recovered before Harrowstone be divided three ways to Stafan, Vivian, and Tara.
The things we recovered in Harrowstone should be divided five ways to Stefan, Vivian, Tara, Sophie, and Bert.
I am proposing that Teil not be granted a share, because the player is bringing in a new PC with full WBL.
So...
Dividing the loot from the false crypt, I'd propose the following:
Tara: 2 flasks holy water, potion of cure light wounds, potion of lesser restoration, 2 scrolls of hide from undead,, 2 used haunt siphons, and the darkwood case contianing the spirit board and brass spirit planchette. She also gets 25 gp.
Vivian: 2 sunrods, 12 alchemical silver arrows, 2 flasks of holy water, 10 +1 arrows, 5 +1 ghost touch arrows, 2 +1 undead bane arrows, 2 potions of cure light wounds, 2 used haunt siphons, and 25 gp.
Stefan: 2 sunrods, 2 flasks of holy water, 2 potions of cure light wounds, potion of lesser restoration, scroll of detect undead, scroll of protection from evil, a used haunt siphon, the remaining unused haunt siphon, and 25 gp.
Dividing the loot from Harrowstone:
Tara: 1 flask of holy water, scroll of lesser restoration, potion of lesser restoration, potion of cure disease, potio of cure moderate wounds, wand of cure light wounds (15 charges), +1 mithril dagger, 1169 gp, 5 sp.
Vivian: 1 flask of holy water, masterwork thieves' tools, potion of cure moderate wounds, potion of cure light wounds, +1 keen longsword, rope of climbing, 1169 gp, 5 sp
Stefan: 1 flask of holy water, the Splatter Man's spellbook, 2 healer's kits, 2 vials antitoxin, 2 vials antiplague, 2 doses bloodblock, 3 doses smelling salts, 1 dose soothe syrup, 2 potions of cure moderate wounds, potion of lesser restoration, potion of remove disease, ring of protection +1, lesser rod of ectoplasmic metamagic, 1169 gp, 5 sp.
Bert: 1 flask holy water, 2 potions of cure moderate wounds, potion of cure light wounds, +1 handaxe, 10 +1 crossbow bolts GM Harker: Can we just say these are arrows instead?, +1 heavy mace. 1169 gp, 5 sp.
Sophie: 1 flask holy water, potion of cure moderate wounds, potion of cure light wounds, potion of lesser restoration, wand of hold person (11 charges), wand of lesser restoration (12 charges), stone of alarm, 1169 gp, 5 sp.
Thoughts?
Tara Eliade |
Thank you Stefan for all this work. I know how time consuming it can be and I am very grateful.
Sophie Kundegard |
Looks good to me as well. My only comment would be that perhaps we should trade the ring of protection to someone who fights in melee. Perhaps they could "buy" it off of Stefan to keep things fair.
I think Sophie will sell the Stone of Alarm, unless one of the party wants to buy it off of her.

Sophie Kundegard |
Leveled up. Increased Strength to 18, took some skill ranks in stuff (forgot which since I made the decision a while ago), took Silence as new level 2 known spell.
Still need to pick one more cantrip and am trying to decide whether to swap Weapons Against Evil out for a different level 1 spell per Harker's rebuild offer.
That's it. The other big change that didn't really involve a choice is that Sophie now adds spells from her Spirit spell list to her known spells, which is pretty cool--with the mammoth spirit she has Enlarge Person and Bull's Strength.
If she sells the Stone of Alarm it should bring her ~1300gp. That, combined with the 1169.5 from loot and the 138gp she already had gives her roughly 2400. Pretty seriously considering asking Tara to do masterwork transformation on the longspear and then getting it magically enchanted. Oh, except it is cold iron, so magic enhancement costs an extra 2k. :(
Probably still want the masterwork part though.

Re: Loot: Just waiting for Bert's approval, and we'll call that a done deal!
Sophie: One of Stefan's oppositiion schools is Conjuration, so prepping mage armor would cost two spell slots. He doesn't even have that spell in his spellbook. He relies on shield for defense in combat... which only has a duration of 1 minute/level. That means he's usually walking around with AC 11!
TL;DR: I'd kind of like to keep that ring of protection+1.
I haven't done it yet, but I will have Stefan leveled up by Monday.
Bert Shieldworn |
Looks fine to me, I am not planning on being ranged since there's more ranged now with the huntress in the mix. My goal is to become a block by controlling space. I'd probably keep the mace and sell the handaxe and the bolts, unless anyone is taking up the crossbow.
Once we are okay with loot, I'll level up since I need to get a spear or something i can use with my shield that is able to do damage to incorporeal etc. (although the hammer looks like will work)
Just putting this out for all my games: This next week culminates with a final presentation on Friday morning. This is a really big deal as employers could be at the presentation and that might allow me to get some interviews and perhaps a job. I may be a little slow in responding this week. This will improve some after Friday, but next weekend is the 4th of July here in the USA and I have the week of the 4th off from school so I am heading to my grandmother's for a few days to visit her. I don't know what days, it will only be a couple, but I'll still have internet access (DSL!!) Please bot me to keep the games rolling, I want to wish everyone in the States a happy and safe 4th if I don't get a chance.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Updated Stefan to Level 4.
+4 hp
+1 BAB
+1 Will saves
+7 skill ranks
no feats
+1 DC to save vs. Turn Undead
Grave Touch lasts 2 rounds
Added loot (including ring of protection +1)
Added all 1st and 2nd level spell from Splatter Man's spellbook (cost 140 gp; deducted that from treasure.)
Free spells added to spellbook: spectral hand, frigid touch
Purchasing a scroll of ray of enfeeblement and adding that spell to my spellbook (total cost 35 gp).
Scribing the following scrolls: (total cost: 262 gp, 5 sp): mage armor (x4), comprehend languages, expeditious retreat, levitate (all minimum caster level)
Buying the following equipment: Surgeon's tools (20 gp)
I think I'm ready!
Bert Shieldworn |
So..my upgrade to Windows 10 this weekend didn't go very well (surprise!!) and I've had to reinstall Windows 7 and basically treat my computer like it was brand new. Good thing I am a certified A+ Computer Tech, huh?
Anyway, I didn't get Bert leveled (shame) and I am waiting on the Windows 10 upgrade to download so I can upgrade then reinstall Hero lab. I apologize for being a super slacker. Friday is looming, but I should be okay, we are a little bit ahead of schedule.
Vivian Deberth |
Here's what Vivian would like to buy in Ravenlo... err sorry, Ravengro.^^.
Composite Short bow (Str 12) 150 Gp
Msw Backpack (Str 13 for carrying capacity) 50 gp
Morningstar 8 gp
Msw Chain shirt (250 gp)
total 458 gp
Sophie Kundegard |
Tara, are you willing to cast Masterwork Transformation on Sophie's Longspear at Sophie's expense?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Bert Shieldworn |
Bert is leveled. Stat line and profile updated in a few moments.
Sold the Warhammer and the handaxe and my cold iron halberd and the crossbow bolts.. Bought a +1 longsword and a +1 Lucerne Hammer, which gives me all three damage types. Hopefully Ravengro can supply those things. If not..um..
Sophie Kundegard |
Well, you forgot cold iron and silver, but you can apply the latter retroactively. The former makes magical enhancement pretty pricey the first time around.

Tara Eliade |
Tara, are you willing to cast Masterwork Transformation on Sophie's Longspear at Sophie's expense?
Yeah sure. It won't be a problem!
Tara's loot list is updated. And she has sold her leather armor and replaced it with masterwork leather armor.
Tara Eliade |
whats the point in msw leather armor, Tara? As the only effect of masterwork armor is to lower the ACP by one, and leather armor gives no penalty?
My plan is to enchant it in the future. :D
Sophie Kundegard |
Why not studded leather? Or a mithral chain shirt?
My loot list is not updated (beyond the horse and gear purchase); I will try to take care of that soon. I have a lot of job search stuff going on today.

Sophie Kundegard |
Also, you sold your leather armor to replace it with masterwork leather armor... You could cast Masterwork Transformation on the armor you had and save a wee bit of gold.

Sophie Kundegard |
That is okay with me as long as nothing was missing from the post Stefan made divvying it up.

I would prefer to keep the old info up.
Instead, I created a new worksheet, titled "Book 2." We can put the new loot list there.
I'll also copy over the calcualtions in the new sheet.
Tara Eliade |
My house has lost power due to a large tree falling and taking out the power cabels. I will be unable to reliably post until it is fixed. Sorry about the inconvenience.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Hi, folks. Sorry for radio silence, and i want to give you an update. It may be another week or so before i resume posting.
My dad had a major stroke. He's in the hospital still, but the prognosis isn't good. He's 78. I've been helping my mom go over their financial records and insurance info... the kind of stuff my dad had taken care of for the past 49 years.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know what was going on. I may start up again sooner if I need the escape from reality.
Thanks for bearing with me.
Tara Eliade |
I'm so sorry to hear about your father. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your father's stroke. I hope things turn around for him.

Thanks so much for your support, folks!
I kind of need the escape from reality, and I should be able to start posting again soon. Hopefully tonight.
Sophie Kundegard |
I will be at GenCon this week, and it is already taking a lot of my time. I imagine I will still be able to get posts in but I don't know when they will be or how long/thorough they will be. Please bot me as necessary.

If at least three players are interested, I'll apply PFS credit.
I believe myself, Bert, and Theodor were all interested. As latecomers I believe we would only be eligible for a fraction of the module (especially Theodor, as he dropped out). Any word on when you need chronicle number information from us to get chronicle sheets?

RE: PFS Credit (ignore if you aren't interested)
Go ahead and provide me with the following information if you want PFS credit for the first part. I'll have to look through the new guide to see how many XP and PP you receive.
Character Name
PFS#
Faction
Email if I don't already have it
If I recall correctly, you don't get a Day Job roll if you are playing it in Campaign mode.
Although I'll count Theodor this time, we'll need three players interested in PFS credit in order to get credit for the second part.
Tara Eliade |
As a reminder, I am hitting the road to gencon today. I will be unlikely to post until the 9th. Please feel free to bot Tara as necessary!
