Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Hey, folks.
Tomorrow, I'm heading to Washington DC for a few days. After tonight, I probably won't be making any posts longer than a line or two until Tuesday of next week.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
I'm playing that he doesn't realize it's cursed. I also don't think it's occurred to him if or how the book could be used to affect the Splatter Man yet.
Tara Eliade |
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that after the Splatter Man fight, I am going to be withdrawing from the campaign. I am doing this because my job is becoming a bit more demanding, and I just feel overlooked in this crowd of characters. Sophie's latest post just brings it to the forefront that Tara is not needed. I wish you all the best in finishing this campaign.
Sophie Kundegard |
Sophie cannot bring the same amount of healing to the table that Tara can, *at all*. Your heal brought him back from the brink of death--mine just made him less likely to go back to that brink again. Teamwork. I definitely don't want to push you out--you were here first so if you feel crowded I think I should be the one to bow out.
Sophie Kundegard |
I'm doing some traveling through Sunday. Bot me as needed.

Sophie Kundegard |
GM, I would like to choose a different Oracle mystery. would you let me do it gratis since the character is pretty new, or should I use retraining rules? Either way I assume it would happen when we have at *least* a night of downtime.

Sophie Kundegard |
Away for the next week or so. May still check in daily, but, bot me as needed.

Tara Eliade |
Hey guys, just so that everyone is aware, I am going to be headed to Gencon this year again, but as a full time volunteer. I have received my schedule as a tier 1 headquarters volunteer, and well... I'm going to be working 12 hours, off for six, working for 8 hours, off for 14 hours, working 12 hours and off for Sunday. It is going to be intense. I will probably not have time to post from August 2-8, as I will be traveling and recovering from the most of those days.
Sophie Kundegard |
Cool! Maybe I'll see you there.

Just a heads-up for the upcoming weekend...
I will be going out of town on a long weekend this week. I'm flying out Thursday afternoon, and will be returning Monday afternoon. I'm guessing that I won't be posting much (if anything) while I'm away.
Tara Eliade |
I will also be unavailable this weekend. I will be leaving Friday and back on Monday. I do not believe that I will have any time to post as I will be with my family for this whole time.
Sophie Kundegard |
Some crap happened in my life. I expect to still post daily, but it may be that I am unable to do so. Regardless, I will not be as frequent as a poster until this crap is resolved. Do not hesitate to bot me when necessary.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
I'm home, but my back-up at work called in sick while I was away. I have a five-day backlog to clear, so I'm working 10-hour days until I'm caught up. I hope to resume posting tonight.
GM Harker |
To make things a little easier for me, could everyone make to have the following information listed somewhere in the status line of your profile?
HP - AC/T/FF - Perception; Low-light or Darkvision - Fort Save, Ref Save, Will Save (Any situational bonuses) - CMB, CMD - Speed - Init.
GM Harker |
Okay, we've finished the first book!
Everyone goes up to Level 4.
Everyone gets a Hero Point for returning the Warden's Badge to Versorianna which allowed her to cleanse the prison. Hero Points work in the same way outlined in the Advanced Player's Guide except 1) You'll only receive them for doing something exceptional in the storyline, 2) I am not allowing any Feats that interact with them, and 3) There is no limit on the number of Hero Points you have at a time. If you want to save all of them for the very end, feel free.
Everything should be on the loot list after I finish writing this, so you should probably discuss how you want to divide up the treasure.
Everyone can do some minor retraining if they wish. By minor retraining, I mean you can change one feat or switch to a different archetype, or change some class ability like a domain, or change out one or two spells. I'd prefer that you don't change Classes or make more than one change. If you'd like to make a more drastic change, please use the retraining rules outlined in Ultimate Campaign and/or PM me about it.
Lastly, I'm going to take a couple of weeks to look over the next book again and plan out the next part of the game. I'll probably start the gameplay thread up again around the week of the 27th of June. This will hopefully give everyone plenty of time to deal with leveling, retraining, and purchases.

We seem to have a melee crowding problem. Anyone want to retrain to do archery? I would offer but I don't think Oracle is well suited to it.

Bert Shieldworn |
I don't mind retraining to archery, if we have enough "tanky" type folks, I know tanking is odd in Pathfinder but there seems to always be someone in melee that holds the enemy, I sorta built Bert for that role, plus I wanted to see how the spear/shield build might play out. That said, GM Harker had approved me going with a reach weapon and using my shield as more of a 5' threat and I lose the power attack 2hand reach thing, so it's probably not overpowered..
Myself, I give the "original" folks more weight on what they want to do, change since they have more invested in their story, as I've only just joined and not totally building my character for all these levels. I already have an archery warrior who is working through the Spire game and he switched from melee to archery for this very reason. BUT upside, my character in GM Harker's other game is a ranger so I would at least not get them as confused at times.
Sophie Kundegard |
It may not be necessary. I just thought I would throw the idea out there in case it appeals to someone.
Sad thing: if Sophie picks Ancestors as her wandering spirit then she won't be adding anything extra to her spell list from that spirit, since the spells match the Ancestor Oracle mystery. But the Ancestor spirit is what gives the ability to give ghost touch to weapons...
I guess I need to decide if ghost touch is more important than expanding the spell list by given specific spells of another spirit. The nice thing is that Sophie can pick a new wandering spirit every morning.

Wow! That was quick...
I think I'll get another inquisitor level (Rogue2/ Inquisitor 2), and add +1 in CON to get better HP.
I just noticed I never took my level 3 feat, and I'd like to use the +1 keen longsword, if no one takes it. So I'd take a Martial proficiency (Longsword) feat.
If someone else (a fighter) wants the longsword, I'll take the "Write scroll" feat instead.
Teilaenthis Arcanos |
While he has been effective in melee, I'm actually not that happy with Teileanthis as a character concept. I made him when Occultist had a rather different flavor and it didn't follow the direction I was hoping when the formal book came out.
If the GM would allow it Teil could retire from the campaign and I could bring in a ranged weapon character in his place.

Sophie, don't worry about going ancestors, since Tara is switching out the death domain with the souls domain. The death domain made Tara more necromancer like than I was expecting (granting the ability to be healed by negative energy, while souls grants the ability to harm incoperal and grant immunity to death affects. Also, I think you guys don't want to watch Tara force bleed someone to death if we happen across a living creature :P)
Sophie Kundegard |
Oh, cool. Good to know.

Tara Eliade |
Tara is all leveled up, the only thing I'm waiting on is to see how we divide up the loot! :D
For the casters, who wants the lesser rod? It allows 3rd level spells or lower to have the ectoplasmic spell feat added to spells, which allows a spell to have a full effect against an incorporeal or ethereal creatures. As Tara doesn't get offensive spells until 4-6 level as a cleric, it is sub-par for me. I am cool with either Sophie or Stefan receiving it.
Sophie Kundegard |
Sophie has 0 blasting spells. I think it would go to Stefan.
It seems to me that we should keep all the consumables, then sell any magic items that no one claims. If someone claims a magic item then they pay the rest of the party the money that the party would have earned if they sold the item.
Sophie is only interested in the +1 mithral dagger or the +1 mace, just to have a magic weapon available. Actually, Sophie would probably rather ask Tara to cast Masterwork Transformation on her Longspear and then see if she can find someone to enchant her Longspear for her.
Sophie's strength is going up by 1, to 18. She will probably continue to use the Mammoth spirit--Enlarge Person and Bull's Strength are pretty cool spells to have on her spell list.
I would like some help picking a level 2 spell, though. Silence would be great, but I imagine Tara probably prepares it once a day--it would be overkill for Sophie to have it on her list as a spontaneous caster. I'm looking at these right now:
Air Walk
Ghostbane Dirge (useful vs. Incorporeal creatures but that's it)
Hold Person
Holy Ice Weapon
Ironskin (+4 AC!)
Silence
Summon Monster II
I get to pick one. I get Spiritual Weapon from the Ancestor Oracle mystery.

Amaria the Huntress |
All,
Here is my replacement for Teilaenthis. Amaria the Huntress. As you can see, she is a Dhampir Paladin of Erastil (Divine Hunter) and a Ranger (Corpsehunter, Skirmisher). She should go far to to sew up the party's ranged weapon deficiency, especially when it comes to dealing with undead.
One thing of note: She takes damage from positive energy and heals with negative. She has a wand of inflict light wounds and a decent UMD in order to deal with her issue, but the party may have to be careful using channels to harm undead... selective channeling or making sure she is out of range. To make up for it, she can lay-on hands to heal other memebers of the party (but not herself). Her inner-conflict intrudes into the real world that way.
Let me know if you have any questions, I'll work with the GM to introduce her along the story - probably once the party is commissioned to deliver the books.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Hi, folks.
I'm back from vacation but I have some less-than-good family stuff going on right now. I'll resume posting as soon as I can.
Thanks for understanding.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Tara and Sophie: I would be happy to take the lesser ectoplasmic spell metamagic badge
Sophie: Of the spells you'd listed, I'd lean toward air walk, ironskin, or hold person.
Dr. Stefan Von Herzog |
Dividing the loot
Looking at the loot list, I'd like to make the following suggestions...
Sell all of the valuables (jewelry, gems, artwork, etc.) EXCEPT the spirit board and its darkwood case.
Sell all of the mundane masterwork weapons.
Stefan would like to keep the alchemical healing items we'd found in the infirmary.
All totaled, we have the following items we need to distribute:
Magic Weapons:
- Ammunition:
- 12 alchemical silver arrows
- 10 +1 arrows
- 5 +1 ghost touch arrows
- 2 +1 undead bane arrows
- 10 +1 crossbow bolts
+1 handaxe
+1 keen longsword
+1 mithral dagger
+1 heavy mace
Potions:
9 potions of cure light wounds
4 potions of cure moderate wounds
5 potions of lesser restoration
2 potions of cure disease
Wands:
wand of cure light wounds (15 charges)
wand of lesser restoration (12 charges)
wand of hold person (11 charges)
Scrolls:
detect undead
hide from undead (2)
protection from evil
lesser restoration
Other items
ring of protection +1
lesser ectoplasmic metamagic rod
brass spirit planchette
haunt siphon
rope of climbing
stone of alarm
Of the magic items, Stefan would like to claim the metamagic rod.
He is also interested in the ring and the wand of hold person, as well as the spirit planchette and its accessories. However, Sophie might be a better choice for the last item, give her profession.
We should probably just assign the potions across the party, making sure that those who can't cast healing spells get some of the healing potions.
Tara Eliade |
I agree that we should sell all of the valuables, minus the spirit board and it's case. I would like to throw my hat in for the +1 mithral dagger, as Tara is suppose to be wading into combat to help others with buffs and healing. As for the wands, Tara can hold onto them, if people would like and use it for party healing. (minus the hold person wand)
Amaria the Huntress |
I find the most fair way to split items is to figure out the liquid value of all the items, then allow party members to "buy" the item at cost with a share of their liquid loot. If people need a bit of a loan to get a big item, it can come out of the kitty but that character gets reduced haul on the next give.
Also, if two people want the same item they can either bid on it or buy a second and split the cost increase.

I approve of this method. Does someone want to take the time to figure out the value of all of that if we sell it?
In the case of items like healing wands or the spirit board that are beneficial to the entire party, I think we should keep them out of the pool, regardless of who ends up carrying them.

My only issue with this way is that some of us who have been with the party since the beginning are gold starved, since all adventure paths go through feast and famine stages. With players that have been added in with proper wealth by level, why should some items that were found in the first month be given to new characters who were added last week?
GM Harker |
I already spoke to Amaria, since she is getting WBL for 4th, she's fine with forgoing any loot at this time.
In regards to figuring out the loot list, Sophie and Bert were present for the Property Room encounter onward. They were not present for the false crypt, 1st floor Harrowstone office, the Pharasmin chapel, or the infirmary.
