He picked it up, on his own turn, when in total defense.

Brallenera strikes, but without too much impact

GM Chyro |

Brallenera, despite the cover the wall provides, lands a hit against the hellknight, who passes out from his injuries.
1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 4 = 4
1d20 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 5 = 13

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Shardra searches the hellknight and casts detect magic and scans the area.
Perception : 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
She then walks to the cells and peeks in.
”Who are you people and why are you imprisoned to be forgotten?!“ she asks.

GM Chyro |

Shardra finds a keyring on him, a vial and a flask.

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Shardra tries to identify the vial and flask.
Assuming her detect magic was triggered.
Perception vial : 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Perception potion : 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

GM Chyro |

She samples the vial, and turns a sour face, spitting out the few drops in her mouth. It's an oil, one of...of....
Bless weapon.
She likewise tastes a drop of the flask, which tastes like bad medicine. She recognizes this as a restorative. Good for the health, but awful in taste.
CSW.

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Sharda gives the flask and oil to whoever needs it.
She asks the group to gather away from the hellknight and channels to heal.
Channel 2/4 remaining : 4d6 + 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 1) + (1, 2, 4, 5) = 22

Mylvwara waves her wand toward Shardra, "Would you mind... just activating this for me?"
one charge from wand of lesser restoration, if Shardra is cool with that, to remove Mylvwara's fatigued condition.
Then the elf peers into the nearest cell.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Shardra nods and uses the wand to restore the Elven mage.
She waits for an answer from the inmates.

GM Chyro |

1: "Long time prisoners."
2: "And good riddance to that hound loving filth. You killed him, right?"

GM Chyro |

The hellknight doesn't look too pale from bloodloss, but Gru'Gar isn't too sure.
You take 10 to make sure?
Turning the man onto his back, Gru'Gar holds an ear over the man's mouth, and feels faint breathing reach his ear.

![]() |

"Nope, not dead yet!"
Having some knowledge of battlefield wounds, Gru'Gar tries to stop the flow of blood.
looking at the others "This one could give us answers."
Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

![]() |

Mylvwara nods in agreement with Gru’gar, ”Make sure he is tightly lashed before we revive him.”
Then she moves from cell to cell, asking each prisoner their name, she carefully writes each name in her notebook, also asking if there is anyone she should inform of there whereabouts. Is our target among them?

![]() |

"Nope, not dead yet!"
Having some knowledge of battlefield wounds, Gru'Gar tries to stop the flow of blood.
looking at the others "This one could give us answers."
Though still sorely tempted to rectify Gru'Gar's first observation, Nemesis responds to his second.
"If we're going to do that, let's make certain he gives us the right ones...."
If we go ahead with interrogating him, I'll first cast zone of truth (DC 16) - DM, I forget; do unconscious beings automatically fail Will saves?

GM Chyro |

Did a quick search on the board, and it looks like it.
Though some things like reflex if you're KO are just silly.

GM Chyro |

Fail saves, i read -get saves- back then, lol.
They only auto-fail saves if the spell calls for a -willing target-, which an unconscious person counts as.
Have at it.

GM Chyro |

Moving this along.
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
He sucks during combat, but rolls better when interrogated...
The team sits the hellknight up against a wall, tied up firmly with whatever means.
Brallenera gently (see a double backhand) wakes him up for questioning....
"Huh....hmmm, what?"

![]() |

Awww.. Why did you attacked us? Was it on your own initiative or did the paper we gave you carried an order?
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

GM Chyro |

Pardon me for passing that by, but no, she is not in any of the cells.

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Zarta is not here?!
”Let us search this place properly! Maybe his key helps ... “ Shardra says.
Perception : 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

GM Chyro |

Zarta is not here?!
Well, no? :D
Shardra inspects every cell, three are occupied, albeit one by a skeleton in tattered rags. The others by a man and a woman.

![]() |

Fail saves, i read -get saves- back then, lol.

Wait; so did he auto-fail his save or not?
Nemesis investigates the skeleton, one obvious concern on her mind....
Heal to autopsy/identify: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

GM Chyro |

No he did not auto-fail.
Upon Nemesis' request, Shardra opens the cell, but the skeleton did not have anything on it.

GM Chyro |

"Awww.. Why did you attacked us? Was it on your own initiative or did the paper we gave you carried an order?
"I'm not talking to you. You have no authority here, i will only talk with my superiors."

![]() |

Awww...Do you really want me to cut your legs so I'm of higher standing than you?
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Brallenera seems deadly serious, for once. And she really, really get into the man's face, the blade of her big axe already biting the flesh of his thigh.
A trickle of blood appears. Nothing dangerous yet, but if the blonde barbarian applies some pressure on her weapon...

GM Chyro |

"Do it, do it, do it!"
*rattling of metal cup against bars*
The hellknight stares back equally cold.
"My name is Ganden Heriphis, maralictor of the cells.
I answer only to my commanding officers, for any of my actions. As per regulation, i request to be taken to them as of right now."

![]() |

Mylvwara casts detect magic, taking in both the missive from the commander and the hellknight.
spellcraft, if relevant: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
Then she activates the detect evil function of her wayfinder.
shining wayfinder
"What is the name of your commanding officer? What command do you see written here?"
After he replies with his commander's name, Mivvy holds up the affidavit; the light of her shining wayfinder illuminates the object.

GM Chyro |

Sure enough the maralictor pings as a not so kind natured individual, then again, more of that sort are among the hellknight orders.
"My commander is Lictor Severs DiViri. And i see the same words you see on it. That is all i have to say."
The detect magic doesn't reveal anything secret.

![]() |

Knowing that the Hellknight is alive, Gru'Gar walks over to the desk and starts to look through any log books and/or the drawers.
Perception : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
"Maybe I will find something in here that will loosen your tongue."

GM Chyro |

The maralictor's desk is surprisingly without secrets, as far as Gru'Gar can tell, as he looked above and below.
A few old papers and some writing supplies.
*Hellkight glances upon party in defiance*

![]() |

”Okay, let’s be thorough!”
Mylvwara begins searching the open area and any unoccupied cells or spaces, including looking at the desk again and searching the captive.
She also casts detect magic repeatedly until she has covered the entire area. If she gets a result she will concentrate for three rounds.
Taking 20 on perception for a 31.

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

If this reveals nothing, Mylvwara will also scan the occupied cells with detect magic and then offer each captive a deal: if they try to flee or do anything shady, they will be killed. If they let her search the cell she will let them dictate a letter which she will deliver and she will let them kick the hellknight in the balls.

Shardra - Iconic Shaman |

Shardra also starts to search the place.
Taking 20 and being very thorough!

![]() |

Hearing what Mylvwara is planing with the prisoners Gru'Gar stays near the Hellknight to "protect" him. If a prisoner goes a little far, Gru'Gar reminds them with a tap with of his axe.

GM Chyro |

And to think, Mylvwara is G aligned.
With the key chain in hand, Mylvwara unlocks the cells one by one.
The woman is still tied to a painful looking bunk, weary eyes.
"Please....get me out of here. I've been falsely accused of smuggling and got sent down here."

![]() |

With the key chain in hand, Mylvwara unlocks the cells one by one.
The woman is still tied to a painful looking bunk, weary eyes."Please....get me out of here. I've been falsely accused of smuggling and got sent down here."
Does this mean she did not find anything magical or hidden?

GM Chyro |

@ Brallenera,
"I was captured 5 years ago in Korvosa while helping a friend identify a strange puzzle box."
"I was the victim of the Hellknights’ ruthless iron rule of law and unjustly convicted of crimes i never committed."
(sighs)
"I used to be a pathfinder agent. Please, get me out of here, and i would reconsider my retirement from it."

GM Chyro |

Mylvwara even finds a key, a small key, that the hellknight stashed somewhere on his person, cleverly hidden.
Checking all doors, it unlocks one.
Frankly speaking, i don't know why some DCs are thought difficult, when PCs have all the time to search places with take 20.
It seems a private quarters, with a bed, bookcase and small supplies.
The bookcase seems to be covering something.....?

![]() |

When the "Ex-Pathfinder" talks about his crimes
"So you were just helping a friend identify a strange puzzle box. And the big question should you have had that box in the first place? Getting caught is some of the risks we..I mean you have to take."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
When the office is open
"Oh, hello what do we have here, Hold on Mylvwara there could be traps, let me take a look first."
Trap Spotter +17 Perception vs. traps Just need to be with in 10' of it to make a check.
Gru'Gar take a look at the bookcase for traps
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
if trap found, Disable Device: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31
Once that is done he takes his time looking over the office
Take 20 so a 35 for normal Perception, +2 if traps

![]() |

Just for clarity: if I found the key outside the cells then the prisoners are still incarcerated. I specified that Mylvwara would only open the cells under those conditions.

GM Chyro |

They showed no ill intent, and let you search.

GM Chyro |

Gru'Gar finds no traps, and with combined effort, the team moves the book case aside.
In an alcove, you find a small chest and an onyx figurine of some doglike creature.
