Toorin looks over the rubble, the vermin, and considers what may have caused the collapse or what threats may lurk in the mess.
knowledge(Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
He fails to discover anything helpful.

GM Chyro |

Oh, but in a few moments you 'will' discover something.
With this being a walkway and Toorin making a check and describing his viewing of the rubble, he's switched places with young lord Joseph.
Edit: Kravg & Joseph are also switching places, ok.
As Brallenera and Toorin come close and stand for a moment to look at the rubble, a soft chittering is heard. The sound becomes clear, as a blanket of a thousand tiny spiders swarm from underneath the rubble.
Ala'Ihys: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Brallenera: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Kravg: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Lord Joseph: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Toorin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Swarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Swarm, round 1.
Ala'Ihys
Toorin
Swarm
Kravg
Brallenera & Lord Joseph

![]() |

Before Brallenera destroyed everything else, Ala'Ihys would have gathered the remainder of the potions and placed them in his pack, I'll do an inventory in a moment.
as they continue up the sewer Ala'Ihys adjusts his veil and asks the fop
"Wraith-heart, do you want to switch places with iron-feather so when the fighting starts you are not injured accidently by arrow or ball-chain while you are reciting poetry?"
Joseph takes a moment to consider and nods
"That sounds like a most agreeable plan." he states with a smile as he starts looking back around and down the rest of the sewer.
![]() |

How much time passed since the previous battle? Toorin's Mage Armor expires after 1 hour.

![]() |

How deep is the water here?
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
For knowledge of the swarm's characteristics.
Would like to know immunities and weaknesses.
Also, is this a surprise round or normal round?

GM Chyro |

Spider swarm.
They are immune to conventional weapons and magics that require a target.
They take extra damage from aoe, their bite is poisonous too. Susceptable to strong wind gusts as well. They attack by, duh, swarming their targets.
Enjoy ;)
The watervis about 4 feet deep, but i'd have to check in the morning.

![]() |
need to get to where I can use the vials the dawnflower has provided
Ala'Ihys moves forward, jumping the gap in the sewer, then turning he throws a vial of acid onto the swarm
move action and attack action, aiming for the corner two squares north of Brallenera, obviously giving up some cover
jump 5ft: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
throw acid: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 for damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

![]() |

Toorin calls out, "Poisonous spiders! Get back. Hit them with the alchemist's brews!" As he speaks, he follows his own advice and retreats down the walkway 45 feet. "Don't bother trying to hit them with weapons!"

![]() |

Awwwww, too many spiders. Can't fight them one by one.
Hearing Toorin
Hope he knows better than me.
Know Nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Well, he looks quite spiderly to me, with his feeble legs and arms. He probably knows better than me.
Brallenera step aside and prepares some alchemic fire, but the swarm of spiders is too quick for her
steps 5 feet toward the tengu, but the spiders got the initiative

GM Chyro |

Swarm, round 1.
Ala'Ihys jumps across the stream and lobs a flask of acid from Drake's stash at them. The erupting acid burns a part of the swarm, but not yet all of it.
Toorin, being an expert entomologist it seems, quickly briefs the others of the danger of swarms.
Swarm (-7), unable to cross the water, they move onto the nearest target.
Get 'em off me: 1d6 ⇒ 3, they nibble at Brallenera for 3 dmg.
I'll need 2 fort rolls from you.
Kravg
Brallenera (5ft steps back and grabs for an alchemist fire.)
Lord Joseph
Bold are up.

![]() |

Earlier
Kravg takes up a flask of aclhemist's fire and a flask of acid along with the tonic and the sunrods before Brallenera decides to flip the table.
Kravg just stands there shaking his head in disbelief at the dwarven barbarian. She lacks discipline and focus. Though that is great strength she demonstrates, I must admit that.
Later with the swarm
Kravg looks at the spiders with disgust and digs up a flask of acid from his belt, then lobs it over Brallenera's head at the front side of the swarm.
"Incoming!"
Flask of Acid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d6 ⇒ 6
Sorry Brallenera, for any splash damage coming your way.

![]() |
ummm... should I mention that Ala'Ihys and Kravg just threw the same flask of acid, maybe his could have been the flask of aclhemist's fire, I will cross it off of Ala'Ihys list of things he picked up. Kravg did you mean the two smoke sticks? I had posted that Ala'Ihys picked up the other items on the table, he also picked up the book and the knife, since no one claimed them

![]() |

With too many allies in the way and too much distance to cover, Toorin does not feel confident he can lob an alchemist's fire flask where it will do much good, so he draws a flask as he moves forward, but holds it high and splashes into the water and wades closer to the swarm, trusting they will not attack him in the water.
Fighting the current and the stink, he moves forward. "Get back!" he yells as he moves past Kravg and Brallena. "Your best defense is movement! They move as fast as a dwarf!" In his mind, he thinks, "Which is not much, but still ..."

GM Chyro |

I made a mistake, Ala'Ihys' attack roll is 1 short of a hit, but you've still got fights to fight, so it'll stand.

Kravg lobs a flask of alchemist fire at the swarm. Brallenera standing in front of his targeted space makes it tricky to hit. Misdirected: 1d8 ⇒ 3, the flask makes a graceful arc before *splash*, it falls into the flow of sludge.
Brallenera 5ft steps back and grabs for an alchemist fire.
Lord Joseph takes some tactical distance.

yikes
what can I do? I have no chemicals left
Ala'Ihys, backs away from the swarm; not sure how to help without any chemical solutions attempts to distract the swarm by drawing them to him by throwing a thunderstone
I will try and distract them with the thunderstone
he will back up fifteen foot giving himself plenty of room not to be deafened and then throw the thunderstone at the location where he had been
thunderstone attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

GM Chyro |

Swarm, round 2.
Brallenera is entirely unimpressed by the spiders crawling on her, and the poisonous bites for that matter.
Toorin braves the filth by jumping in and wading through.
Ala'Ihys moves back a bit and throws a thunderstone.
Fort swarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13, the spiders are deafened, but it matters little.
Fort Brallenera: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14, Brallenera is, sadly to Ala'Ihys' action, deafened for the next hour. -4 to init, fails sound based perception, -4 opposed penalty check on such perception.
Swarm: the crawly spiders advance, now also crawling and biting the tengu monk. Bite, bite: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Brallenera posted those in advance, Kravg will need 2 fort saves DC 11.
Kravg
Brallenera dives into the filth and is submerged in the 5ft deep sludge.
The spiders on her are not good at swimming and drift away like a small puddle of black dots. Someone help her out, gentlemen.
Lord Joseph
Bold are up.

fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Kravg takes a step into the sludge and Offers to pull Brallenera out onto the other side.

GM Chyro |

With the remaining spiders on him, Kravg's being social with Brallenera and Toorin and jumps into the filthy sludge. The spiders are washed away.
Combat over.
For being submerged in the sludge, Brallenera, a fort roll please.

GM Chyro |

With the threat of the swarming spiders over, Brallenera is hoisted out of the sludge by the others. She's is fine, save for the smell, but thankfully Kravg and Toorin are in the same situation, so she's not the sole victim.
Following the walkway east, you come along several signs and graffiti, depicting a large stylized drawing of a wyvern in shiny gray paint (Likely signifying that the Steel Wyvern’s claim this territory). Also among them is an image of a skull crawling with bugs and an arrow
pointing back to the west (a most likely warning about the dangerous insects at the previous junction), and a representation of a beggar’s bowl holding a coin and a key with an arrow pointing to the south. Underneath the picture of the bowl is the word "Almsman".

GM Chyro |

Well, you're in liberty to explore their territory, with any ensuing encounters, but you can head for the Almsman as well Which is overall your 1st goal.

GM Chyro |

And so you make your way south towards the Almsman's sanctuary.
Ahead a faint light glimmers in the dark. Slowly it resolves into a crude lantern held by a toothless old beggar who holds a chair leg in his other hand. Beside him stands a scrawny youth, similarly armed but obviously terrifid. Behind the two derelicts is an open door bearing the symbol of the beggar’s bowl, coin, and key.

![]() |

Tooring moves forward, holding his hands away from his body, and says, "Peace. We mean you no harm. We've even made your sanctuary a little safer by eliminating some of the Steel Wyverns. We wish to ask you some questions, and perhaps to rest a bit. Are you The Almsman?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Being covered in filth probably does little to infuse dignity into attempts at diplomacy, Toorin thinks as he senses his words may not be well received.

![]() |
I may need to help Toorin a little
Ala'Ihys winds his way to the front of the group, making sure not to get any of the filth on his plain cotton clothing, as he presents himself to the two "guards"
"As-salamu alaykum, I am Ala’Ihys Amatullah al-Rashid, Servant of the Dawnflower, Venerator of the Sunlord Thalachos, Rider in the Histaqen and these are my companion. We are looking for the one called The Almsman, you gentlemen appear to be his sentries. We desire to speak to him. What must we do to convince you of our sincerity?"
GM Chyro, I don't know if this should be a diplomacy check or and 'aid other' so apply it whichever way is appropriate
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

![]() |

Earlier
Awww, what do you mean, no one can heal my wounds? What will you do when I'll fall face down in the s****?
She's angry.
Now
Awww, these are beggars. Give them some gold! They need it more than us.
Without hesitation, Brallenera searches her purse, and gives the beggar one gold, showing again that she is not typical dwarf. She will let the other use their silver tongue, and shows her heart of gold.
I'm sorry I can't do much more. The Steel Wivern we killed earlier (they attacked us first, of course) didn't have much money on them. And the big bunch of small spiders had no money either. But at last it should be safer for you to go there.

GM Chyro |

Ala'Ihys: that roll is one worthy of a stand alone diplomacy roll. If you wish to aid in diplomacy, a result of 10 is enough, but mention it with it for convenience and clarity that is your own great attempt or merely 'some helpful words'. ;)
The men keep their noses at bay for obvious reasons, but the old man speaks in response. "If yer intentions be peaceful, Abadar makes you
welcome."
Beyond the door, a short flight of steps leads up into what appears to be the basement crypt of a church of Abadar. Perhaps two dozen beggars huddle among sarcophagi, some sleeping, some haggling over bits of junk or scraps of food laid out on blankets.
A tall man in clean robes and wearing a copper mask walks amongst the unfortunate. As you enter, he calmly turns his view at you and coolly says, "If you respect this sanctuary, I offer you what sanctuary I can. Otherwise, begone!"

![]() |
Nodding to the old man and answering
”I swear by the dawnflower my intentions are in fact peaceful, and I am thankful for Abadar’s welcome."
Ala’Ihys steps carefully so as not to hurt or offend any of the rooms occupants; approaching the tall man wearing the copper mask he answers
"As-salamu alaykum, I am Ala’Ihys Amatullah al-Rashid, Servant of the Dawnflower, Venerator of the Sunlord Thalachos, Rider in the Histaqen and these are my companion. I will respect this sanctuary and its inhabitants. However our search is not only for the generously offed sanctuary but more so for information surrounding a old, withered man, his skin is shockingly pale his features sharp with high cheekbones and a jutting chin. He introduced himself as Gandros, the long-lost Prince of Augustana to the Pathfinder Venture-Captain Alissa Moldreserva who has sent us to you to inquire about said prince and the magical porthole he, and I quote “fled back through to this realm” do you perchance remember this individual?”
Pausing for a second to let the tall man remember the specific vagabond
”do you remember this white hair gentleman he has a certain…
Ala’Ihys pauses for the proper words
”.. look of absolute, confident superiority. Or is there anything you can tell us about any magical portal he was able to come through?”

Kravg moves silently after the others, but as he hears the dwarven woman talk about injuries he can't help but fondle one of his pouches.
After a few more steps when she gets angry he pulls out a flask and throws it to her.
"Catch! It should do you good." CLW potion I bought with my starting money, had my equipment figured out, but was unable to post it up during the holidays. GM I'll note this as 50 gp off of my starting wealth, there should be enough.

GM Chyro |

"Quite a long name, sir Ala'Ihys, i appreciate you heed the sanctuary's honorings."
At Ala'Ihys' mention of Gadros, the Almsman nods.
"You speak of Gandros, yes i remember him. He came to us in a panicked and confused state, his tale vague, fractured. I know some details, but i am in need of a situation's solving. I provide care for the less fortunate of the city, it is funded by a share of each beggar's earnings. However, the Steel Wyverns are doing 'protection services' and have, as of late, raised their commission. It's squeezing our throat, sort to speak. I expect a group coming over within 2 hours or so. Fend them off, permanently would be ideal, and i will share the details on Gandros."
He notices Brallenera's injuries.
"Young lady, i provide healing services."
1 clw=20gp. 3 CLW available.

![]() |

Count me in. I don't like when people take advantage of those poorest than them. The Steel Wiverns die tonight. If you don't mind blood spilling in your temple, of course.
Even more anger in Brallenera's eyes
Two hours? that should give us time to prepare ourselves.
Is there something that could give us some tactical advantage? A place to hide? Some traps we could prepare?

GM Chyro |

You can take up positions within the sanctuary for example. The map's up. The Almsman has no traps himself, maybe you could come up with something to baffle the GM, it's up to you. You have access to place your own token.

![]() |

After Toorin's botched attempt at diplomacy, he stepped back and let Ala'Ihys do the talking. He thinks to himself, Pay attention, Toorin, for you need to learn to do this if you want to represent your people across the Inner Sea." He makes mental notes of the paladin's words and body language.
Toorin assents to putting a stop to the Wyvern gang's extortion. In preparation he converts his prepared spell of Stone Fist to his bonded spell, Burning Disarm.
When discussing strategy, he'll say, "I'll cast a magical Shield spell on myself just before battle. I will stay to the back and try to affect them with my burning disarm spell to divest the best fighter of his metal weapon, followed by my flying fists until I run out. Then I'll try to support you with arrow fire or my longsword."
If we wish to set a trap, my Burning Disarm spell can also be cast on an unattended object of small size. If we have oil spread over the floor in advance of their coming, the metal object could be covered with kindling such as paper and it will start the oil burning when I direct the metal to heat. We must, of course, be careful to place the oil where it will not set the sanctuary ablaze, but perhaps such a place can be found.
I'm not sure how much damage such a fire would do, but if we could put it on the entrance stairs without setting anything on fire (except maybe the doors?) it might delay them or prevent a spell caster near the back from seeing through to cast spells. If we can't manage a fire or if it would be unwise, perhaps we can throw a smokestick into stairway area. It would fill the stairs (10'x10') and last for 1 minute. We might also give a smokestick to the trio at the sewer entrance with instructions to let the wyverns up but after they have moved up the stairs, to throw a smokestick after them and then run.

GM Chyro |

As nice a plan it sounds, burning disarm says the following:
The heat does not harm the item, and it does not get hot enough or last long enough to ignite flammable objects.

![]() |
my father worships Abadar I would rather not bloody a church of Abadar even if it is just the basement crypt, it may not be avoidable
Ala'Ihys nods and smiles to the Almsman then turning to Brallenera he observes,
we will be able to use the sarcophagi as cover, we will need to get the innocent out of the kill zone, possibly back behind the double doors. Unless of course we want to take the fight to them, that would certainly keep the blood out of the sanctuary. We know the direction they will be coming from, depending if we would rather take an offensive stand or a defensive one.
edit: just read Toorin's post
tuning to Toorin he adds
"however it sounds like your skill may best suit a defensive posture here in the crypt."
edit: strategy?
as Ala'Ihys thinks for a moment
"I will position myself thirty foot in front of the door and draw them in with arrows, any who are stronger in melee may hide just inside the door and step behind them once they try and close with me and the magic hits them."

![]() |

Brallenera nods at Ala'Ihys suggestion.
Awwww, I'll fight them to their death. I'm better at offensive tactics, but we need to put the non fighting ones out of harm's way first. I still have some alchemic thingies, if someone want to throw exploding things at the Wivern's face.
At the priest
Awwww, sorry, I only have two gold pieces left. And they stink, cause I fall into the sewers.

![]() |

Kravg puts down 20 gp for the cleric and then points to Brallenera.
"Curatives for the lady are on my tab, please help her as best as you can."
Kravg then looks at the entrance to the room they are in now and says: "Well I think our dwarven lady and I could hold the sides at the stairs and surprise them when they try to get into the room itself. We'd be unseen as we stand behind the wall. I'll trip them to hold their advance and Brallenera could beat them while they're down."

GM Chyro |

The Almsman nods and pockets the gold for Brallenera's cure spell.
"Hold still."
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"A few scrapes still, but you look much better."

![]() |

Awwww, thank you Kravg, healing would be most welcome indeed.
Hearing the trip&beat part of the plan, she frowns
Im a fighter, not a butcher. Angaad prizes an head on attack. I agree it's best to put our foes down quickly, and to make sure they don't attack those who can't defend themselves. My axe will see to that, but the Wiverns will meet it standing up.
As the priest heals her, she smiles and winks at him
Awwww. Don't try to flatter me. Thank you for the healing.

![]() |
if I had it I would have given it, my journey here cost much, I will see the generous Tengu repaid
Ala’Ihys nods at Kravg’s generosity, listening to Brallenera express her viewpoint
this dwarf has much honor
Kravg your plan has good parts, I agree with Brallenera killing in cold blood should be avoided. How is this idea, we will draw them in by offering them terms of surrender. If and when they refuse Toorin will cast his spell, I will fire on any immediate threat, then draw my scimitar. Brallenera will challenge any who would fight; any who would flee but do not take up arms Kravg will trip; those who surrender or are subdued will be taken to the officials.”
Turning to the bard Ala’Ihys asks
”Youssof you have a way with words would you like to offer the “Steel Wyverns” the terms of surrender or would you prefer I do it?”

![]() |

Awww, I'm in debt with you, Kravg. I won't forget.
Brallenera presses her axe's blade against her forehead, giving a silent prayer to her god maybe, or just enjoying the fresh contact of the steel on her skin.
Then she get busy, pushing the sarcophagus- with as much respect as she can-to provide some protection to the other members of her group.
She quickly speaks to the archer
Aim to my left. Don't be afraid to shot to kill, cause we are all that will stand between this sewers'scum and beggars who can't defend themselves.
Then she gives to the bard her remaining "alchemical thingies": a vial of alchemical fire, one thunderstone and one tanglefoot bag.
Awww, so you can be useful, you know. Use the thunderstone first maybe, that can give us an edge. Not that my axe need it.
She grins, but there is no mirth in her smile.
Finally she will place herself near the door, hiding in the shadows. She rips part of her other sleeve, rolls the tissue in small balls that she puts in her ears, to protect herself from most of the thunderstone effect.
She puts aside her shield, and takes her huge axe with both hands.
She seems totally calm now, as if she was storing her anger for later.
If she had time, can she take time to take 20 in Stealth (total 20 :20+1 Dex-1 armor Penalty)? AC drops to 14/12/12 bonus dmg rises to +4
